Manhattan Bagel is a pretty decent bagel spot located just off Ridge Avenue in Roxborough. I got the everything bagel with lox and it wasn't bad, just not the best I've had in the city. My kiddo enjoyed her plain bagel with egg, cheese, and bacon. With coffee and a juice the total came to $30. I was a little disappointed that when we ordered a hot chocolate, we were told they were out. The lobby was clean with no frills or sense of décor. The bathroom was clean, and that's always a relief. The staff were prompt and friendly, our order came out within five minutes, and the coffee bar was well-stocked. It was a very average experience, which is neither good nor bad. read more

Just shy of $15 for a bagel with lox, cream cheese, and tomato puts them right in line with the Upper West Side ... a land where a parking spot costs more than a house in Roxborough. This location is very close to my home but I won't return despite them being very friendly. I ordered the nova lox =$9.71 and it came with an ample side order and a pickle. The sandwich was below average in my opinion. The everything bagel was sweet and it didn't bode well with this sandwich. There wasn't enough lox and too many onions which threw the balance off. I still can taste the onions in my mouth. There wasn't enough cream cheese either. I ate it because it wasn't horrible but like I said I won't return here. The staff working the front door were extremely cautious and I felt safe ordering and picking up my bagels to go. You can either order online or at the door and pickup. Great bagels! Don't order via Doordash or another delivery app; orders have had missing items twice & you can't always get your money back. WOW. At first sight it is your average bagel shop but this is anything but that. Great variety of both bagels and creamcheese. I come here frequently on sunday mornings for the Brisket bagel and it never fails to save me from the Sunday morning scaries. The quality of the food here is 100% worth the slightly above average costs. They also have a small selection of creamcheeses to go, as well as other grocery packaged items. I think this is the only bagel joint on the main strip in Roxborough (and a five-minute drive from my house), so of course I am a fan. Manhattan Bagels does solid business and is always packed when I walk in. The ordering process is smooth and efficient for the most part--grab your drink, place your order with the staff, pay, and grab your coffee. They give you a number for pick-up and then you're on the way! Manhattan makes a mean breakfast sandwich--my favorite is sausage egg and cheese on an everything (and at ~$4, a price that can't be beat). I love the bagels at Manhattan Bagel, they are always fresh and are the chewy New York style I prefer. Manhattan Bagel offers a good variety of bagel flavors. For something a little bit sweet try a chocolate chip, even more sweet try french toast. My other favorites are cheddar, honey wheat, and multi-grain. They all have enough flavor to eat plain. They also have quite a few sandwich options (on bagels or other bread) and plenty of flavored cream cheeses. I haven't ventured much past the old standby of a bagel with egg and cheese--they fix the eggs fresh on the grill so it takes a few minutes more than places that fix eggs in a microwave, but it is well worth the wait. Unfortunately, they do not offer pepper jack cheese but if you get the bagel on a toasted jalapeno cheddar bagel that's almost as good! The cinnamon buns look much better than they taste--the new bagel poppers are a better choice. Be warned, they are *bagel* poppers. Don't be confused by the resemblance to donut holes, these are chewy like the bagels. If you like a sweet bagel, the poppers may be your thing. My only complaint about this location is the TV is always on and almost always too loud for my taste. Otherwise, this might be a decent place to sit and hang out for a little while. During busy times of day parking can also be a challenge but the spots in the parking lot usually turn over quickly and its not too bad a walk from the grocery store parking lot. read more

This place is my second favorite bagel maker in the Philly area. (My first is PhilaBagel in Jenkintown but it is not always convenient to drive all the way there just to have a bagel). Manhattan Bagel is a chain (or franchise) and they are pretty consistant across their different locations. They make a proper (boiled) bagel and they offer a good variety of flavors from my favorite, the everything, to exotics like the asiago cheese bagel. I don't really believe that there is much of a health benefit but they also make a honey wheat everything. Oddly, the flagels (flat bagels) they offer do not seem to be boiled like their plumper cousins. They bake them fresh throughout the morning as the need arises so there is a decent chance that if you order one of the more popular flavors it will still be oven warm. Since my doctor keeps informing me that one of the worst things I can stuff info my maw is a bagel I try confine my visits to once every few weeks. When I do go I try to make my trip worth while by ordering a sandwich (I vary between the bacon egg and cheese (they grill the egg and do not use a microwave (a pet peeve of mine)), a lox spread with cucumbers or a whitefish salad with tomatoes. I also buy a 1/2 dozen to take home and freeze. The secret is to wait until they are not warm anymore and then immediately slice them and freeze them in a zip lock freezer bag. They toast up (or air thaw) wonderfully. I do not know this for a fact but I do not think they use preservatives and therefore (this part I do know) they do not keep for more than a day or so outside of the freezer. read more

My review being 3 stars has nothing to do with the food, instead it's about hygiene. Or lack thereof. When you purchase your food you get a receipt which you must then hand to the guy before receiving your food. Sounds pretty simple right? Well you never know what someone touches and what they might do with that little slip of paper between the time they pay and then receive food. Our wait time was about 15 minutes on a crazy Sunday morning. The guy who makes your food is also the one who takes your slip and goes back to making your food.
