    Crab Tortang Talong
    Keizzel C.

Upscale Filipino food!? I've heard about this restaurant and finally made it to the area to try it. I grabbed a reservation ahead of time but I was worried at first if we were going to be seated on time due to the large groups waiting outside. However, seems like it was due to a large party and we were seated on time. Yay! I have to call out that it was full of plenty of Filipinos too which was a good sign. They do have a parking lot but can get a little tight. However, when we were leaving it looked like there might be an underground lot for the plaza. They also have a mic set up so seems like they might even have some live music playing. Need to look into this one more! After seeing photos I had to get the grab tortang talong and oxtail / macadmia kare kare. I was tempted with the sisig and the bangus - however, there were only two of us so we tried not to eat with our eyes too much. haha. I did see tables next to us order them and they looked tasty so they will need to wait for another visit. In addition to our mains we had to get a mix of the garlic and regular rice to mix it up. The food took a bit to come out at first but I was pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes. The tortang talong had a nice crisp on the outside with the moist texture. I originally didn't get too much crab flavor but it was more on the edges. I thought the eggs were a nice touch and the dollops of mayo vs having it spread all over the top to add some creaminess. The meat in the kare kare was tender but it wasn't anything too crazy in my opinion to justify the price point. You get some of the macadamia flavors/crunch but it didn't stand out too much. I'm glad I tried it but would likely get other items next time. You have to order the rice as a cup or bowl on the sides as the mains don't come with a complimentary scoop. I actually wish they did come with at least one scoop free though. We also got the half & half drink option which was refreshing. They actually give you a caraf so it's around 3-4 cups which is a solid deal. If you don't finish it you can also take it to go to enjoy later.

Pass by this restaurant a couple tunes a month heading to other places, but never stopped to actually try it. Finally made the decision to give it a try and stop putting it off. Had made a reservation ahead of time but still has to wait about 25 minutes to get seated. The restaurant was very busy, which is great for business, so my expectations were high with all these people here. It must be phenomenal! Once seated, we got water for the table and looked over the menu. With five of us, we would definitely order a few items to get a good idea of how the restaurant was. Everything gets ordered together and comes out as it is ready. The crab fried rice cubes with crab tossed in rice, spices and crab fat. I was really expecting something crab forward with a great flavor profile but I felt the taste was underwhelming and really didn't stand out like it should with crab being the main driver of the dish. The Laing Shrimp though, probably the best thing we were on the day. Good overall flavor and textures going on. The lechon belly sisig was decent. Nice texture on the outside with the egg yolk in the center to mix in. The pork, itself, felt like it needed to be seasoned a little more, but, texturally, it was nice. The chicken Inasal was moist and juicy, cooked well but, it too, felt like it needed to be seasoned better. And the last did we tried was the Beef & Oxtail Macadamia Kare Kare. A lot going on in this dish with the braised beef and oxtail, vegetables, almonds, crab fat and macadamia. While it has a nice range of flavors, it still felt like something was missing with the dish. And, for the price point, it absolutely did not meet the expectations. Overall, Manila Inasal send to be a popular Filipino restaurant in the Silver Lake Plaza serving up some classic Filipino dishes. The price point, for what it is, seems very high, even when asking Filipinos their opinion directly. And, given the price point, the food doesn't live up to the expectation. The Laing Shrimp and the Chicken Inasal are solid enough, but skip the Kare Kare, lechon sisig and the crab fried rice.

I came here as a walk-in on a day that was booked with reservations and the host was kind enough to squeeze me in. He said the wait would be around 30 minutes but I believe I only waited half that time. The restaurant was packed and it was very clean. The waiters were very attentive and checked on us from time to time. The food itself was very delicious. I got the most popular dishes that included the crab and the fried pork. Those first bites were packed full of flavor and the portions were generous. I will say you should get a bowl of rice to balance out the savoriness. Overall, had a great time and would recommend anyone to come here if they want good food. Parking is very limited so good luck.

Seriously good Filipino food. Very impressed with this spot, great ambiance, amazing food, and great live singing! We got the lumpia sariwa, Lechon sisig, pancit, garlic fried rice and the beef adobo. Everything was amazing but I was so impressed by the adobo. The beef was buttery, savory, and so garlicky. The sauce here is a little thicker than I am used to and I loved it. I would definitely come back again. Will say it's a bit on the pricier side but the portions are quite generous. They offer live music on certain days, which was so great to have when we came. Service was great, staff are friendly. But by god are they so slow with seating. were so many big parties that were just sitting there or just tables waiting to be cleaned. It was quite frustrating waiting. I would definitely book in advance to prevent this.

Excited to write this review because honestly, my heart is full after this experience at Manila Inasal. I was born in the Philippines and grew up in a Filipino household, so I've always been chasing that one restaurant that truly understands Filipino food. Not trying too hard to reinvent dishes, but also not afraid to elevate them properly. Just a real understanding of the food, the flavors, and the culture. Definitely elevated but not "try hard".  Right away, the Kare Kare stood out to me. If you're Filipino, you already know this dish is supposed to be the showstopper. And truthfully, I've had a lot of Kare Kare in my life and this is one of the first ones that genuinely wowed me. Not including my dad's of course.  The sauce was super rich and nutty without feeling too heavy or overpowering. The almond and macadamia translated beautifully and the subtle hint of saltiness from the crab fat added so much depth and savoriness. The vegetables were cooked perfectly tender, especially the eggplant. It didn't taste boiled at all. It honestly tasted pan-fried or seared first which instantly reminded me of how my mom used to make talong (egg plant), so this dish hit on a personal level for me. And the bagoong... man. I found out it's housemade just like everything else on the menu and it completely stole the show for me. Not overly salty, not too fishy or shrimpy, just deep flavor with the perfect hint of sweetness to balance everything out. Perfect compliment for the kare kare. The Crab & Eggplant Tortang Talong was also fire. The calamansi aioli added a really nice brightness (could use a little more calamansi) and the masago gave it the perfect little pop. This was also finished with crab floss on top for that's perfect added crunch.  Tuna Crudo was fresh, light, clean, and easy to eat. Could easily put this over a bed of rice like a poke bowl, so bomb. Might have to ask for that next time.  Another thing worth mentioning is the portions are proper. My wife and I had leftovers and honestly even after reheating the Kare Kare and Tortang Talong later on... everything still hit. To top everything off, Eli also blessed us with their Ube Mochi Brownie. The texture reminded me of some hybrid between sapin sapin, tikoy, and a brownie. Somehow light and fluffy while still dense and chewy at the same time. My description probably sounds confusing but trust me... this dessert was addictive. Shortly after our meal we met Eli. Super charismatic, welcoming, easy to talk to, and genuinely passionate about the food they're serving and hospitality as a whole. You can honestly see why the business is succeeding. We got to talking and I had mentioned how hyped I was for the Laing before finding out the.were out of it. Somehow this man pulled some strings and blessed us with an order to-go anyway. ... this Laing was GOOD. This might honestly be the first time I've had Laing where the leaves still actually felt like leaves instead of the usual mush or something like creamed spinach. Texture and bite reminded me of collard greens in the best way possible. Still rich, creamy, packed with coconut flavor and spice, but way more balanced and intentional. I honestly don't think I'd want it any other way now. This was after reheating too. Still hit.  Service was pleasant, ambience was great, music was on point, and the whole place just felt welcoming.  Only downside? Parking lot is snug. Just mentally prepare yourself before pulling up, but it was easy to park but upon arrival it's gonna look packed. Just a heads up. I think they have parking underground, you'd have to check.  One last thing before I forget, their "half-and-half" drink, which consist of calamansi and tanglad (lemon grass tea) super bomb and refreshing. They serve you a liter, it's incredible.  Overall, this place genuinely made me happy. Properly elevated & still traditional in the right ways and that balance is hard to pull off..I will definitely be back, sooner than later for sure. & if you made it this far, find me on IG ! The food was really good and the service was so so quick. We had come here before watching 'Here Lies Love' the musical. The food was carefully curated to taste like home cooking with a slight fusion of modern style. You could tell the chef made sure the flavors all came together. Definitely wanna come back to try more of the menu. The place is cozy and just to put your mind in easy, get a reservation. Parking is right below the building. Easy access once you drive in.

Service was pleasant but a little too busy for me (slowed them down). Wonderful greeting. Food was pretty good but the Lechón was dry and the crispness was a bit on the chewy side. Also the belly was a bit cold. I liked the Crab & Eggplant dish. Flavorful but a little overkill on the aioli. Pancit was very tasty.. my nephew ate most of it so I didn't get much. Garlic rice is fine for garlic rice. The Calamansi Iced Tea was a treat so we got a second order. I guess we were thirsty and it was really refreshing. Parking is a bit tight. There is also lower level parking. Nice vibes.

Food (5/5): MASARAP!!!! As a Filipino-American, this is how I imagine Filipino modern cooking. Your familiar Filipino comfort dishes are re-imagined here to not only bring elevated flavors but also gorgeous presentation. My favorite Filipino dishes are sisig and sinigang. Their chicken sisig was juicy and packed with flavor. The sinigang had the familiar tangy tamarind taste. The oxtail kare kare is so decadent and rich but needs more salt. Thankfully the bagoong provided the salt that the stew needed. The crab tortang talong was my least favorite but I did appreciate how different it was than what I'm used to. It was soft and delicious. My mom ordered the halo halo which she loved because of the coconut milk. The pistachio sans rival was absolutely divine: not too sweet with a yummy crunch. Ambiance (5/5): Manila Inasal felt like home. Service (5/5): Filipino hospitality at its finest. Price (4/5): Price-y in my opinion but do absolutely worth it. Dishes average over $20.

Classic Filipino hospitality at its best--warm, welcoming, and full of heart. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal with family and friends. It really captures that "feels like home" vibe while still feeling elevated. The food absolutely delivered. The standout was the crab tortang talong--rich, flavorful, and beautifully textured, reminiscent of a next-level crab cake, with a subtle, creamy sauce that complemented it perfectly. The laing was comforting and well-executed, and pairing it with focaccia gave it an unexpected but delicious upgrade. The kare kare featured incredibly flavorful vegetables and very tender oxtail, though it could've used a bit more sauce or depth to fully bring everything together. For dessert, the ube mochi brownie was warm, soft, and cozy--definitely a highlight, though a little extra whipped butter on the side would've taken it even further. Overall, it's the kind of place that feels like homemade Filipino cooking, but elevated. Perfect whether you're trying it for the first time or coming back for something nostalgic.

I love this place! Almost drooled just typing this review. Honestly, it has been a while since I have tasted the quality filipino dishes my aunties and uncles would make, so I will gladly say that Manila Inasal provided the flavors I missed. At first, we were sat a table that would benefit us if we each ordered one dish. But we ordered plenty and requested a larger table. We got a larger table. The service is as quality as their food. The servers will answer your questions, make suggestions, and are welcoming. If you are lucky, the owner will walk the floor and greet you but also chat if you are open to it. On the day we visited, there was a filipino/a duo performing music. The duo that performed for us sang a French song. They sounded perfect. Now, the food! The bangus had the charred flavor that reminded me of backyard barbecues with my family. The tofu kare kare had all the peanut butter flavors that make kare kare what it is. I do like how the dish wasn't blended together but rather separated like a charcuterie board of food. It was all delicious! Made room for dessert: halo halo and a Pistachio cake. So good! Parking is limited, so if you see a parking spot...swoop in and take a seat at Manila Inasal.

I had family dinner at this cute and hip Filipino restaurant in LA. They had live music playing to add to the vibe. Luckily we made reservations because there were quite a bit of people waiting. Servers were very attentive and frequent the table often. Out of everything, I was truly floored by the *crab tortang talong*. It had strong, amazing flavors and texture. They definitely did not shy away from the crab meat. I'd highly recommend. I also loved the *beef and oxtail kare kare*. The meat was tender and cooked well with delicious grilled eggplant. It also had green beans and bok choy but they weren't anything special and didn't add too much to the dish. Otherwise, all the other dishes we ordered were good. They were as expected to be. Therefore making my overall rating a 4/5

After we walked into the restaurant, we were left standing around for a bit while they figured out the seating arrangement. However, the food was great. Lumpiang Shanghai were hot & crispy. Crab Tortang Talong was very flavorful with a generous amount of eggplant & crab meat. Chicken Insal Bowl was good for what it was. Wish Hubby had tried something more unique. I was looking forward to Pistachio Sans Rival as dessert, but it was sold out. I then opted for the special, Mango Cream Pie, and was disappointed that my neighbor got the last piece, so I ended up with Halo Halo. It was refreshing ; more ube ice cream would be nice though. Service was good. Live music was playing most of the time, & it can get pretty loud. Ground parking (strip mall) filled up quickly so we had to go underground. If you're interested in Filipino food with a twist, check it out.

We've eaten here at least four times now and each time wows more than the last! I'm so happy we saw Dodjie Simon and were able to catch up a bit with him. He's a total sweetheart and is the most talented songwriter to have come from Manila. He even regaled us with a few songs this morning. What a treat! Before I forget - the food was fantastic as always. Our servers brought each dish piping hot straight from the kitchen. I loved everything. The crab tortang talong and sisig (mushroom and pork!) are crowd pleasers. The pancit and the oxtail kare kare were delicious too. I didn't have room for dessert this time but I'll make sure to leave some for when we return.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

Also, we had a few questions about the menu and our drinks and the waitress would just say, "I think so?" or give a vague answer. She didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu at all. I will also shout out their breakfast burrito, which is crispy, crunchy and filled with delicious inside. My only regret was not adding avocado, but it's a lovely place to catch up with friends and or do your work. I even saw some people bring some books to read outside in the sun on the benches and while I don't have that free time yet, it's definitely a goal to come back to do that. Shout out to the lovely cashier who is very patient with my order and everyone who was very kind.

I think there's only 4 or 5 dedicated parking spots available out front so you'll likely have to street park unless you get lucky. It can be difficult to find as the entrance is more on Santa Fe than it is on Mateo. I ordered an iced chai latte and my date ordered a pour over. I think he was pretty satisfied with his drink but my drink was mediocre. Chai lattes are my go-to so it's easy for me to compare and the drink here just doesn't have as much flavor as I expected and tasted watery. Not itching to return but if I did, I'd order an açaí bowl or a pastry as those seem pretty good.

I had many questions, and both he and his team addressed every single one with patience, care, and attention to detail. It's clear that Dave was born to host events! That level of guidance makes all the difference when you're nervours... that patience and guidance it's exactly what you want in a venue partner. Prank was an excellent choice for our event. The location is fantastic, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the drinks and food were outstanding. Thank you so much. We will absolutely recommend Prank and keep it on our radar for future events in LA.

The open patio, the bar area and how it wraps around the corner where there is a smaller intimate section. The music was awesome, the bartender has a great pour and the people seemed to be really having a great time. Plans are made to come back and I must try the food when I do. Cheers!!

Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with authentic flavors and quality ingredients that stood out from the first bite to the last. The ambiance was welcoming and the art was tasteful. What truly elevated the experience was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the meal. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensured everything was perfect without being intrusive. We ordered the tostaditas de atún agua chile negro, beet salad, carne asada taco and Al pastor taco and watched the World Cup game. Distrito Catorce combines exceptional food, a great atmosphere, and top-notch service. It's the kind of place that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal. Definitely plan on coming back to watch more World Cup games.

To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. Overall, it's a cool spot with a menu that feels unique to LA.

My friend just flew in for a day because his relative had forgot her passport and needed to travel to Korea, so we stopped here. He missed a few meetings, a vet appointment and other things, but also saved the day, otherwise his relative wouldn't have been able to make it to Korea. While here, they ordered a salad with cherries and pecans that was pretty amazing. I think that may have been one of the better salads I've eaten. In addition to that, a cucumber burrata salad was ordered, and that was made well too. When my venison burger arrived, I took a few bites and it had the exact flavor I was hoping for and I thought the burger was done extremely well. My friend also ordered a pork chop, and it was an amazing cut, cooked perfectly, tender, juicy and everything you could ever want in a bone in pork chop. They also cut the entire piece for you and scraped every last bit off of the bone too. The service is really attentive. They come by your table a lot to ensure you have everything you need. The ambiance is a bit dim in lighting which sets a nice mood. And the place just happens to be dog friendly too. Sorry for the lack of photos, but I didn't wanna intrude on everyone else's meals. However, if you come here, definitely try the salad with cherries and the venison burger or the pork chop!
