My experience has improved consistently. The food is a lot better than my first experience, and the extra chicken skin in the avgolemono was probably just the result of a bad day in the kitchen. I've had their sandwiches, moussaka, baklava, and more. I was happy with all. My one qualm is the fries...I guess they just don't make their fries crispy? I asked for a basic Italian pasta dish. Aglio et olio. It's on most menus of Italian restaurants. The waiter did not seem to understand what I was asking for so I asked him to ask the chef if he could make it. He I assured me he could. The dish consists of pasta tossed in garlic, crushed red pepper, olive oil, a sprinkling of parsley. I got pasta with oil & sweet red peppers. My mushroom ravioli was full of recognizable chunks of mushroom. And it was covered in more mushrooms along with tomatoes and onions in a cream sauce. One of the best pastas I've had in a long time. And it's the sort of casual place where service was fast even at 2:30 in the afternoon, the bread was generous, and I didn't feel weird being there alone in work out gear. I went here on a Friday night with my fiance for an impromptu dinner date. The gluten free ravioli was delicious and reasonably priced. I couldn't decide between the pesto and Alfredo sauce, so the waiter immediately suggested I do half and half. I was in heaven! We enjoyed the casual, cozy atmosphere. I have also ordered the caprese salad to-go for lunch several times which is worth me taking 5 minutes of my break to wait for the Connecticut avenue crosswalk to get from my office building to this spot. So, I've never written a review before, but the service and food deserves one! I began my search for good New York style pizza the summer of 2019 and I finally found it. Not only is the food at Manoli Canoli amazing, but their service and staff is second to none. My door dash order was over an hour late so I finally called the resteraient and they stayed open late so I could run to grab my food which they had kept warm for me! I am really puzzled by all the five star reviews here. This place is in our neighborhood but they have never wow'ed us with their food, and definitely not their service. I tried not to think that their lack of warm service is due to the fact that I am Asian. Last weekend I walked in to pick up my order. I walked past by two staff. None of them acknowledged me. I waited at the counter until a guy with glasses helped me and he was very pleasant. Unfortunately there aren't any other options that are within walking distance in our neighborhood. read more

3.75 Sorry to be harsh. I really got excited when I saw the menu, and the food WAS good, it's just that it didn't blow me away. My mom, her friend, and I came here on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. They have a few outdoor tables and it was a gorgeous day, so we took advantage of that. The menu is pretty big...it took me forever to decide what to get. They have a large selection of Greek and Italian dishes. We decided to get the horiatiki salad and three entrees to share. I was unimpressed w/the olives, even though the owner said they were fabulous. I don't like olives from Sparta, so sue me. The salad was a real horiatiki salad, in that it had no lettuce, just onions, feta, olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers...nice to see it done right for a change. We got the pastichio, mousaka, and chicken souvlaki wrap. Both the pastichio and mousaka came with string beans "greek style" which just means w/a tomato sauce. But they used waaaaaaaay too much sauce, and it was a little thicker than I'm used to. They did use cinnamon in the sauce which was a nice surprise (it sounds gross, but it's a trick used often in Greek cooking--it's delicious). The pastichio was made with penne pasta which was different but pretty cute, considering this is a Greek AND Italian restaurant. It was tasty, but not the best I've had. I don't really like moussaka, but I took a small taste and it was pretty good! They put the potatoes on the bottom and it was crispy. The chicken souvlaki wrap was decent, the chicken could've had more flavor and there was hardly any tzaziki on it. When we ordered, our server (who was really the Greek owner) figured out that we were Greek, which explains the free baklava he sent out at the end of our meal. It was a very generous piece and well done...not sickeningly sweet. They've got a shelf with dry and canned goods for sale as well as a freezer with Greek and Italian entrees and sauces to take home. They also sell olive oil from Greece in Italian wine bottles. I'm curious to see if they make a good pizza, so I'll be back for that. read more

One of the best sandwiches that I have ever eaten! I have only been there once (so far!), but now that I know where it is, I am planning on going back on a pretty frequent basis. They have a decent variety on the menu, ranging from pasta to pizza to hot/cold sandwiches and more. The fries were pretty decent too. The service was wonderful and the food arrived fairly quickly. Great restaurant for real good greek and italian food. Their business is a tad slow but the results from the wait make up for it. Their portions are very big, I had the meat lasagna. The sauce was sweet and tasty and the piece was great to share. My husband had the meatball sandwich, theyre so generous with the mozzarella. It was so tasty and the salad was so fresh and delicious. Their olive oil which they make in Greece is really something else. I really enjoyed the dining and would return for their $5.99 carry out sandwiches. read more

The most amazing fresh mozzarella and olive oil. Additionally, the staff is wonderful! It's how a restaurant should be (but rarely is nowadays) where they walk around and check in on their guests and make sure everyone leaves with a full belly and a smile. The restaurant is small accompanied by uncomfortable seating. It's better to order take out than to be served by a heavily tattooed youngster who serves coffee in old mugs followed by hardened sugar packets. The Italian cold cut failed to out do the best Italian cold cut served at a Silver Spring deli owned by Asians. Service was prompt and the patrons were well to do but the place didn't reflect this very well. If you do or don't go you'll have known a life of other contenders worth a review. read more

This place was outstanding! We went with our toddler son, it is a casual atmosphere, but the food and service was beyond casual. I had the mushroom ravioli, my husband had ravioli with a pesto sauce and our two and half yr old had a plate full of fries and grilled cheese. All were amazing. We topped the night off with one of the canoli's- yum. Our only regret is we didn't buy some of the fabulous olive oil! Make sure you do! Manoli Canoli is truly a diamond in the rough. I went here tonight for dinner with my fiancé because we happened to be in the area and I saw other favorable yelp reviews. Well, they were right. It's a rather small place but very quaint and the owners/staff are extremely friendly. And I mean SUPER friendly. It really made our evening. I had the veal in cream sauce and it was so tasty. My fiance had an eggplant dish which I tasted and also found to be quite sumptuous. The style is kinda like home cooking. Extremely delicious. I would definitely go back to this restaurant. Being in the mood for some Italian food, thought I would give Manoli Canoli a try. The restaurant is well located on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, with plenty of parking in the rear. For my main course, I had Italian Sausage, which is served with onions and green peppers over linguini, and cooked in a fresh tomato based sauce. The portion was rather generous, and the taste was very authentically Italian. Fresh, flavorful, generous. I finished off my meal with a dessert recommended by my excellent server Angelo, an ice-cream dipped in chocolate called Tartufo Spumoni. It was my first time ever trying this, and again it was delightful. Am blown away by this experience, and would highly recommend this place !!! read more

I always get really great service at Manoli Canoli. I've been there probably ten times if not more. I recommend the pizzas, the gyros, and the chicken parm sandwich. It's a small restaurant so great for 2-6 people for lunch and dinner. Parking is easy in the back, it's in the same shopping center as Starbucks. They have great olive oil for sale too, pick up a bottle. Looking forward to warmer weather when there is outside seating again! read more

I liked the small cozy cafe atmosphere. I was with my friend but most people were with their family (with kids or mom/dad) or couples... so it has family restaurant feeling. I was happy with the male server (also cashier..so I'm not sure if he was a manager/owner or just a server..) but he was Very friendly so I would definitely come back just for the service:) I also have to try their pizza since I only tried their salad. We had been hesitant to go to Manoli Canoli, which is in the same place as a restaurant we used to eat at (Marcella's). The name sounded a little gimmicky to me. But we gave it a try, as it is super convenient to both our neighborhood and the beltway. What a wonderful surprise! I wish we had tried it sooner, because we have been missing out. First, they have given the dining room a very nice makeover. It is still small, but has nice wooden tables that mke the place seem a bit upgraded from the old Marcella's. We got there at about 6:15 on a Friday night and got a table right away, although within the hour other people had to wait, and the restaurant also appeared to be doing a brisk carry-out business. The food was great. We started with the caprese. From the first bite of their mozerella I knew that no matter what the experience with the rest of the food, we would be back. They make their own mozerella, and it is to die for. The caprese also had tomatoes (of course), very tasty muchrooms, peppers, and olives. A perfect size for two to four people. I don't eat meat, so as an entree I had the spinich agnolotti with a pesto sauce -- basically a spinich and cheese ravioli. It was quite tasty, and the portion size was adequate. My friend had a beef gyro, and said it was great. The highlight of the meal was (surprisingly) the absolutely FABULOUS FRIES that came with her gyro. I mean, seriously good fries. Fries to build a reputation on. They were well fried, crisp, tasty, with a hint of oregano. I have been to restaurants taht specialize in fries where the fries were not this good. I ate most of them off of her plate before she could get to them. Then, the piece de resistance, the canoli. We fancy ourselves canoli officianados. We shared a piece after the meal. The restaurant makes its own and we had seen it displayed on the way in, a large shell stuffed with the usual sweet cheese mixture and decorated with chocolate chips and some kind of red sauce. When it came, we were unable to identify the red sauce. My friend thought it was raspberry, but to me it tasted more like cherry. Unfortunately, it was too sweet and kind of marred the experience. Their cannoli is good enough to stand on its own and does not need the sauce -- next time I will order it without it. But other than the sauce, their cannoli did pass muster and we will order it again, which is high praise coming from us. Other things we noted: the service was quite good -- attentive, friendly, prompt, even when things got busy. The servers work together to make this happen. We kept eyeing other people's plates, which we could see because it is such a small place. Many other dishes looked incredibly appetizing. Because they have both Italian and Greek food on the menu, there are a lot of varied choices. I would recommend this to nearly anyone, but I hope it doesn't become the next rage -- I want to still be able to get a table there! read more

One and a half stars. Old friend visiting from out of town, and usually I like to take visitors to places I know well, but Manoli Canoli is just down the street from where I live and what with all the glowing reviews, I figured it was worth a shot. Big mistake. For dinner I shared with my girlfriend a grilled salmon entree and the veal piccata. The salmon was awful--overcooked and tasteless. Utterly uninspiring. It came with overly-steamed broccoli and rice, which was actually the best part of the dish. The veal piccata pasta was too salty, too oily, and while I thought the veal itself was okay my girlfriend stopped eating it after two bites. The spanakopita was fine--it was the best part of the meal. The antipasto was meh. Bland beefsteak tomatoes and equally bland mozzarella. Service was fine. Friendly, nice people. We don't need amazing, but for what we had, I'd rather grill my own salmon or boil some Buitoni and have a night in. read more
