If you really want to know the truth, many restaurants in this town of Forest Hills are completely full of phonies. Pick the place on Austin Street and go in and some guy in a baseball hat, jean shorts, Knicks jersey, who took public transportation here acts like he owns my town. Then the servers come to you acting like they arebdoing you a grand favor just by handing you a menu, and the food tastes like it came out of a cardboard box. ​But Manor Oktoberfest is different. I'm not even kidding. It's sitting right on Yellowstone Boulevard, about four blocks from my place, and walking in there feels really great. I'm part German myself, and the food there tastes exactly like the kind of honest, real meal my grandmother used to make. No fancy, phony presentation just incredible, hearty stuff that knocks your taste buds out of the park. They've got giant, warm soft pretzels with mustard and cheese dip, monstrous burgers that take two hands to hold, stacked tomato and mozzarella style appetizers, and proper tall steams of cold draft German beer in proper glassware that make you feel human again and possiblyin Dusseldorf. ​The guy who owns the place happens to be a buddy of mine, and he's an absolute terrific guy. I came here with my boyfriend on a late Sunday afternoon. No need for reservations. My boyfriend is German and he approves of the beer selection. We only stopped for a quick bite so we ordered the pretzel with both the chicken liver pate and beer cheese. My family and I have been coming here since it originally opened it's doors. Dinners were excellent and the servers were warm and friendly which made the experience that much better. Fast forward several years and several lunches with my brother who lives nearby and this restaurant has lost some of it's lustre. Our waitress during a recent visit was not friendly and was lukewarm at best. We sat down and barely had a chance to look over the menu when the waitress asked us what we wanted. We told here that we needed a few more minutes. Not more than a 20 sec passed and she was in our faces asking what we wanted. We placed our order and within a few minutes our meals were ready and placed on tge table in front of us. Needless to say my brother and I questioned how warm the meal would be and sure enough our plates were room temp at best and tasted bland as if the were pre-cooked and just waiting to be served. This establishment is the only decent sized restaurant not on or near Austin St that can serve large groups. Unfortunately they no longer care about their clientele. Their other satellite rearaurant in the Atlas Park had recently closed. Hopefully with the holiday season just around the corner proprietor will take notice and step up their game. The 5 of us came for Sunday lunch, and there were plenty of tables available. Generally, the food was very good and the portions were large, so we got 4 entrees and an appetizer and it was still too much for us. Bone-in pork chop: surprisingly, this was the winner for most of us in the group. It was so juicy and moist with lots of flavor without being overly salty. I'd get this again. Pretzel with Chicken Liver Pate: The pretzel overall was soft, although the top braid was a little too tough. The pate though was amazing - fresh, airy, and flavorful and went very well with the pretzel. The pate is tied with the pork chop for my top choices. Sauerbraten: This beef indeed does have a sweet/sour sauce which was good, and a nice contrast to the other dishes. The portion is a little bit smaller compared to the other dishes. 2 Wurst combo: We got the Mozart and the Kraimer wurst - both were good, and the Kraimer had a little spice kit that made it nice. Because they knew we were going to share, the chef cut up the sausages for us, which was nice. The jaegersnitzel was the most disappointing. It was not crispy, and the meat was too thick to be tender for a snitzel. The mushroom sauce was fine, and we did ask for it on the side, but even still. Each dish came with its own sides. In general, I liked the pickled cabbage (on the sweeter side), the sauerkraut, and enjoyed the spaktle more than I usually have in the past (a little more firm than the ones I've had) but wouldn't necessarily order the spaktle separately. We also got some beer - I got the seasonal Hofbrau seasonal tap, which I can't begin to pronounce, but I enjoyed it very much (don't like beer generally, but a sucker for smooth German beers). We walk by this restaurant almost every week for years. Like a previous poster wrote, never had much interest in German food and the restaurant and space inside didn't look welcoming. We decided to try it due to their pretty outdoor dining spot since it's well decorated, great ambience and comfortable. This place surpassed our expectations. Ordered our beers quickly and several dishes to try. I tried the Schofferhofer grapefruit beer and it was good. I'm always a fan of citrus-flavored beer. It's a very light beer so no worries about it being too heavy to enjoy your meal. Potato pancakes - I'm trying hard to avoid fried foods lately but can't help the need to try it. It's really good, fried nicely and good amount of potato. Seasoned well, not too salty. I tried it with the applesauce that came with it as a dip but I love my applesauce as is so I ate it separately. Hot wings - essentially buffalo wings. Good, standard wings. Came with one piece of celery and dip. Kids schnitzel - Saw the regular portion was giant so ordered kids version for my kids and it came with a choice of a side. We picked mac and cheese and that was devoured by the kids. Very good. Schnitzel was superb. Light breading, quick fry with just enough crunch, tender pork. Crab cakes - pretty good for a non-seafood spot. Very nice! Two Kassler Rippchen - two pork chops with sauerkraut and homefries. Wow, the way they cooked this pork chop is top-notched. I can't remember the last time I had such a tender, well-seasoned, flavorful pork chop in a restaurant. Really good. Great flavor combination with the sauerkraut. Kid-friendly spot, food came out fast, and got to enjoy the atmosphere of a lovely neighborhood. Went to the 99 cent store right after which is right next door. Convenient location. I am a Forest Hills resident and Manor Oktoberfest is our go-to restaurant! The food and service is consistently great. I miss eating a schnitzel and this hit the spot! There was so much choices of food to choose from but had to control ourselves for a party of 4. Everyone loved all the dishes and beer. My picky daughter enjoyed the potato pancakes so much she wanted us to order more. The apple sauce it came with was perfect, not to sweet. My Reuben sandwich was really flavorful and not too salty. The Jager Schnitzel was so good with the mushroom sauce on top, wasn't a fan of the Spatzle which was a pasta but my friend ate it up. Located in Forest Hills, this is the first German restaurant that I have ever tried. My favorite thing to order is the Oktoberfest Pretzel with Chicken Liver Pate. I do find the pretzel to be too salty with the salt so what you can do is order it without the salt! Take some of the chicken liver pate, smear it on the pretzel, and place a sliced onion on top. It's like the perfect combination I tried many of their dishes at their restaurant: from the Jagerschnizel to the Schweinshaxe. Although I enjoy taking a bite or two of these entrees, I do find that they are a bit too heavy for me. For the Jagerschnizel, ask for the sauce on the side so that it doesn't get soggy. I hope to try other entrees here so that I can find my favorite dish. With all the different menu items they have to offer, you're bound to find something you like! read more

There is a party area in the back but didn't see it myself. The tables are huge and can get busy after 1 or 2 pm. Food - food is dry and lack flavor. Or that can be just how German food is like but I had tried other in Berlin and in Brooklyn. The pork breading is too dry and lacking flavor. They should change up the recipe as there are better. I purchased a deal for the Oktoberfest package through Groupon which includes an order of Pierogis, an order of Potato Pancakes, Jägerschnitzel - served with home fries & red cabbage, Wurst Platter (one bratwurst, one knackwurst, German potato salad, and sauerkraut) Two Pieces of Apple Strudel and can only be carry out on Weds and Thurs. It's delicious! For what the deal is you get a schnitzel the size of a child's face and two huge wursts! All the sides are very carby and yummy. I've never thought to pair potatoes with applesauce but it's my jam now. The star of the show were the knackwurst and the apple strudel for me. The texture was super soft and greatly matched with chicken liver pate. For entrees, we ordered One Wurst (Brahwurst) & One Kassler and Hungarian Schnitzel. The Wurst was German sausage and the Kassler was smoked pork chop. This dish is extremely satisfied if you are a meat lover. The fried pork cutlet was little dry inside and the layer was wet but delicious with Hungarian paprika sauce. Came here to enjoy the beer garden on a pleasant late winter day. Parking was surprisingly easy on Yellowstone Blvd. I had the freshly tapped Spaten Oktoberfest which is the perfect beer as we Segway out of winter into March. Their draft list focuses on Hofbrau, Pilsners, and some other central / Eastern European beers with Guinness being the exception on tap. For food, we started with the pretzel. I would have skipped ordering that in retrospect. For our main course, we shared the fried truffle pierogies and a schnitzel covered with mushroom gravy with a side of home fries.
