First timer from out of town. The basic croissants are nothing special at all. Maybe they were a bit old or maybe the quality is compromised due to covid, either way I couldn't taste a difference between the standard croissant here and one at starbucks. However. The almond croissant is next freaking level. This is more of what I expected. The outside was perfectly crisp and seared with that crispy buttery sugariness you expect. The inside is sweet butter/jam/creme like almond paradise. The peach fruit tart was also a bit underwhelming. I think I came on an off day. Let me tell you, you can't really go wrong with any of the pastries here! I got the Kouign Amman and it was delicious! I get a Kouign Amman every chance I get and this was definitely in the top 3. It was sugary buttery flaky goodness! I also ordered the Sausage Biscuit and omgggggg. The house made biscuit was soooo flaky and buttery and 100% melted in my mouth. The sausage was nicely seasoned and the sandwich itself was big enough to split. Won't need to eat again for a while after that. I ordered a monkey bread, kouign amann, and a beautiful speciality seasonal bread. The monkey bread and kouign amann were delectable, though they lean on a higher sweet level compared to B Patisseire. I personally prefer lighter desserts so I spaced out eating those baked goods in different sittings. The speciality seasonal bread was a generous size and even had chocolate chips inside! The coffee here is terrific but nothing too stellar than any other coffee shop. However in this downtown Los Gatos area, there isn't really much coffee to begin with so your choices are quite limited. But if you're looking for coffee that's much better than that known coffee chain that you see everywhere, Manresa Coffee is your go to. Manresa Bread may not be seen so easily from the outside but if you get the chance to spot it and try, you will not be disappointed in what they have to offer. Finally had the chance to stop by Manresa today. We arrived right at noon and there were 3 parties ahead of us- they only allow 1 party inside at a time, hence COVID + it's such a small shop. The line went very quick and it was very obvious why, as they were practically sold out of everything. At noon on MLK day, all they had to offer were sour dough baguettes, whole wheat bread, two quiches, choco chip cookies, seasonal orange calamansi sliced loaf bread, and two other gluten free muffins. None of the croissants everyone raved about or any additional pastries were available. As first-timers and not very local to this area, we went ahead and grabbed the following: ($5) baguette- felt VERY hard and stiff at first, but when we tried it at home, we loved it. Very crunchy, chewy and tough. I know that sounds weird, but it was good, especially with butter! ($9) sliced whole wheat - not bad at all, but not as amazing as the sourdough baguette. Definitely softer in texture for sure, still good! We had this with charcuterie. ($6) seasonal orange calamansi loaf bread - this is sold by the slice, like the pumpkin bread you'd get at starbies. This one was surprisingly delicious. Very dense at first, but if you pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds, it's great! Never had such a flavor loaf bread before, but it did not disappoint! ($5) whole wheat chocolate chip cookie- probably one of the worst cookies I've had in a very long time. It was a pretty large cookie, but not good at all. I love cookies and I would never let a crumb go to waste, but I tossed this one in the trash.... the texture was SO grainy. Not sure if it's due to being whole wheat or the type of sugar used, but the texture was terrible. The chocolate and nuts were fine, but I couldn't justify the texture. I've been told I'm jaded by the ever-rising SF/Bay Area prices but I was pleasantly surprised by the "affordable" pastries here. Both our choices were $4, wow! They didn't have a huge selection but we got here after lunchtime on a weekend. Still had difficulty choosing though! That kouign amann looked like a masterpiece but I wanted to try something else. What an excellent bread shop! They have fresh pastries that are made inside the shop daily with their most important selections: fluffy croissants, creamy Pain au Chocolat, monkey bread, brown sugar hazelnut, white chocolate chip cookie with oats, Kouign-Amann, etc. They even have a coffee shop a few steps away serving Verve! Manresa Bread makes for the perfect morning bite! I had to buy a freshly baked baguette for $4. It was rustic with a nice moist inside. It went great with olive oil! I have to come back for more. I highly recommend people coming here to try their morning pastries. There's no other cafe/shop in the area with these premium selections made in-house. My friend and I decided to try this place after hearing good things on a Monday morning. Located in downtown Los Gatos, there is a small parking lot in front and plenty of street parking. There was a line outside the door as the bakery only took one party at a time. It was about a 20 minute wait until we got into the front. They offer a few select items that all looked delicious ranging from $5-9. They also sell bread loaves. I got the gluten free pumpkin muffin and the ham and cheese brioche. The pumpkin muffin is the star of the show. Super moist with a nice crunch of pumpkin seeds on top. The ham and cheese brioche was also good but I would definitely come back again just for the pumpkin muffin. Met up with a friend to get some coffee and pastries and didn't have a great experience. We got lattes and a kouign amann, which were all pretty good. My experience was soured by the barista. She called out my order (which had 2 drinks) but only put out one drink, so I asked her which one it was. First, she kind of rolled her eyes and pointed to the display of cup tops and said "The orange cups get the 12 oz top." I thanked her for the info but said that I meant which drink is this. She said "it's for MICHELLE." And I said, "I know, but I ordered 2 drinks and I want to know which latte this is." She got huffy and then checked the ticket and explained that my 2 drink orders got separated by ticket, so she didn't know that I had 2 drink orders. Fine, that happens. But don't be rude about it to the customer. Also when she put out my friend's latte, she didn't bother to do the latte foam leaf. This last critique is not on the bakery, but wanted to note that the customers were pretty rude. More than one person cut us in line and when a regular walked in she just breezed to the front of the line and was served right away.
