My boyfriend and I had an amazing dining experience at Manta. At first we are nervous about coming here because of a few mixed reviews, but every dish was delicious.
We decided to do the 4 course tasting menu for $83/person and it was worth it. Everything aside from the wagyu is available for selection. We were full by the 4th course and didn't even really need a desert.. But couldn't help getting one anyway. Their selection isn't very big, only about 20 main dishes, but the things we tried were excellent.
For the 4 course tasting menu, the two of us selected the following dishes:
- Sashimi, aji amarillo, sesame and wasabi
- Hamachi, kosho, peanut, mustard vinaigrette, jicama
- Scallop, shiso, soy sauce, cucumber, avocado purée
- Octopus anticucho, chorizo mayo
- Aged prime New York strip
- Suckling pig "Birria" steamed bun, cilantro, scallions
- Black miso fish tacos, cabbage, flour tortillas
- Tempura Lobster tacos, cabbage, flour tortillas
Every dish was delicious. A lot of it seems to be Asian inspired and a hybrid of flavors. For the fish, they have a seasoning salt/chile and soy sauce that brings out the flavors.
Dessert:
- Tres leches cake, black cherry ice cream, vanilla cream: This was AMAZING. My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for something like this when we got back to the states, but sadly nothing compares :( For the price and the portion, the cake was perfect. The cherry ice cream added another dimension of flavor.
- Chocolate sponge cake, peanut ice cream, tamarind, cacao cracker: Don't get me wrong, this cake was good but just not memorable. Like.. I would come back for the tres leches but not this. It's a good cake, but a cake I feel like I could have gotten anywhere.
Coffee:
Ehhh... I actually though the coffee at the Hotel's brunch location (The Ledge) was much better. Something about the milk and cream just made their coffee better.
Service: The service was amazing! The fine attention to detail really won us over. Our water was filled often, so that our glasses were never more than half empty. The silverware was changed with every course. When we were finishing up our sashimi course, our chopstick holders were cleared. Our waiter Samuel was especially attentive, polite, and welcoming. He gave us a great recommendation for dessert. (GET THE TRES LECHES)
One thing that was very memorable was the drink we ordered. My boyfriend and I had told our waiter we would share a drink, and they actually split the drink in two separate glasses. This - and other small details - goes a long way.
Note: Manta and all other restaurants at The Cape already add 15% service charge to your bill - so make sure to read it carefully! You can always add extra tip, but be careful to not add 20% tip ON TOP of their 15% :P
Overall, I would definitely recommend! read more
