Beautiful place for a meal. Met here for a new client kick off dinner. Perfect environment. Valet parking too. (Big fan of valet here, especially in downtown LA) We had appetizers, food and wine. It was a group so I won't go into detail, but everyone loved what they had. Excellent place. read more

My husband was craving Chilaquiles this afternoon. After searching Yelp we settled on Manuela. We ordered the Black Bean Chilaquiles and Key Lime Pie. I personally have never tried Chilaquiles and I can't believe I haven't tried it sooner!! Now I understand that every restaurant may have its own spin on this dish, but what Manuela served up today was AMAZING! The portion size was also big enough to feed two people! It was very delicious! Their Key Lime Pie is also mouthwatering and every bite was a piece of heaven! Their crust to pie ratio was perfect and the whipped cream on top of the pie was light, airy, and such a beautiful balance to the Key Lime itself. My husband and I are so very happy to have ordered from this place and will definitely be back to visit in person our next go around! First time experience: The seating area is in an open urban/industrial space with plenty space setting you apart from other guests. Onto brunch experience... Small & To share: Cream biscuits - probably the best biscuits I've had in my life. Small balls of a perfect flaky and doughy marriage! Topped with their dangerously delicious in-house made butter and apple butter jam. Plates: Grilled grass-fed skirt steak - more of their breakfasty plates - their amazing rendition of steak and eggs. A generous piece of skirt steak topped with an amazing green salsa. Two perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs. Done! It is a farm to table experience so be ready to pay for that experience. I went with my girlfriend, so add another platea de a couple drinks...came about to about $80. Worth it! read more

Came here during Covid and didn't get to see the chicken coop. Despite that, I had a good experience here. Deer Burger: 4/5 Popover Benedict: 3.5/5 Quiche: 3/5 Coedo Beniaka (Sweet Potato Ale) 7% Japan: 4/5 My Food Rating = A- Ambience/Decor: 4.5/5 Presentation: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Cleanliness: 3.5/5 Price: 2.5/5 My Experience Rating: A- Location: 2.5/5 Wait: 1.5/5 Hours: 3/5 Parking: 3/5 My Convenience Rating: B- Pros: - Good ambiance, both for lunch and for dinner, for coffee or for cocktail. - Cool industrial farm vibe w/ good indoor outdoor space. - Good for groups or an intimate setting. - Garden style courtyard with chicken coop (closed during Covid). - Art exhibitions and art shop nearby. - Friendly attentive server. - The deer burger could have been slightly more juicy in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it. - Interesting beers to try. Cons: - Wait to get seated. - Menu was on the pricey side. Tip: Located inside the Hauser & Wirth complex, if that helps. Tip: Parking structure was $5 flat. Tip: I wouldn't suggest parking on the streets of Arts District at night. Save yourself a broken window and pay for valet. Conclusion: Manuela was great. Judging from the # of reviews Manuela has, it probably doesn't need my review for people to acknowledge how good this place really is, but it really is good! We tried the trout tartare, biscuits, bbq oysters, burrata salad, skirt steak, honey cake, and key lime pie. We saved room for dessert, but I'd say, while they were good, the appetizers, salads, and entrees were way better! read more

Absolutely lovely! I came here with my boyfriend last night and the ambiance and food were out of this world. I love how Little Tokyo/Arts District is taking the beauty of the city and exploiting our history. Manuaela is located in an old warehouse that has been converted to art galleries, bookshop, restaurant, and an outdoor garden. I love seeing the culture of art painted on the original brick to the chickens roaming their little home. We sat outside since we didn't have reservations. Have no fear, this little Californian had the heater on and all was good. We started off with the oysters and the spinach salad. Can I say, uber yummy?!? Yaasss!! The spinach salad was fresh and crisp, not your typical softer spinach. Amazing. We continued with the tuna ahi, which is not done Asian style. Absolutely amazing! I want more!!! We paired that with the asparagus. Your taste buds will be so freaking happy. Ours were smiling hard by the end of the night. I seriously can't wait to go back. Check out this gem! read more

The ambiance is so great for a date or for a large party (as I was in). It's located in an old, converted warehouse with art and shops. You can see glimpse of the old warehouse and what it was used for. The food was okay though, I think the best dishes had to be their biscuits, Mandarin orange appetizer, and steak. The service was really good as we had a prix fix dinner for 23 people, but it got lax near the end of dinner when we had to keep asking for water. As the night went through, it was getting cooler and it was no problem to ask them to pull the heat lamps around our large table and get us warm. We ate there for about 3.5 hours. read more

After passing by the spot for a while, I finally got to try this spot. I think because of COVID, they added a lot more tables and that's why were able to get a table fairly easily. The interior is wonderful. There's an open air courtyard and the overall design is thoughtful and cozy. We ended up getting the following: Snap peas Pork chop Yellow tail Arugula salad with pear Honey cake Everything was fantastic and the honey cake was the thing that stuck out the most in my mind. So moist and so many layers! The service was excellent and we left as happy diners! read more

So many interesting dishes to try! We started with the burrata, asparagus and smoked trout roe on toast. The flavors worked well together and we loved the lightly vinegared asparagus. Next to arrive was a large mound of blue corn meal corn bread slathered with honey butter. It was soft and spongy and we would have devoured the entire loaf except for the fact that other dishes were on the way. The next to arrive were the black bean chilaquiles topped with melted cheese, crema and fried egg and grilled cauliflower. Our only complaint was that the cauliflower was a bit too vinegary. We ended our meal with a slice of honey cake. When we are in LA again, we will definitely make another reservation. . read more

Great outdoor and far apart seating. Dog friendly. Prompt seating and food & drinks came out promptly. Food was good but overpriced. My friends had the venison burger and the quiche, and I had the egg Benedict. The egg Benedict was good. The eggs came surrounded by a huge buttery fluffy bread crust. Dipping that bread in the gooey egg with a piece of sweet ham was perfection. I was starving by the way. That can change my perception of things. Nonetheless, I was satisfied. My friend's quiche was pretty good too but small. By the time she gave each of us a bite, there was barely any for her to eat. Server named Angel was awesome. Best of all, you can split pay by phone by having everyone scan a QR code on the bill. Once you scan it, you check off what you ordered, and it adds it all up, including the tip. No more messy calculations. Note: This QR code does not include the "service charge 4%" that Manuela adds to everyone's bill. After we paid, we were short a couple dollars, and it ended up being the service charge. We just paid that with cash. read more

I swore I would never go back to a restaurant that bullies the customer into ordering everything all at once, but my mom was excited to take me here for my birthday. How did this ridiculous trend get started? "We'd like to start with a couple apps and a bottle of white." "The chef prefers that you put the whole order in at the same time so we can course it out." Remember when fine dining was about the customers' preference and not the chef's? "We understand, but we'd really rather order some apps and wine after our cocktails, then decide on mains and sides, and maybe another bottle." "Your tickets might get backed up in the kitchen if we do that." Is your kitchen that incompetent? Kitchens have been able to do this for a very long time. So we ordered everything and looked at the wine list. The server ghosted and we asked the host for some help. The wine came as we received 3 of the 5 mains. Then a few sides came. The fish was cold by the time the pork chops came. So much for coursing it out. We would have ordered another bottle and dessert if it could have been on our own timeline. The food and drinks were really good. Two stars for the food. Sorry to be that Yelper, but this was ridiculous. read more

Well well well, manuela the old stomping grounds of a good time. I'd like to give up up to bartender John who has the tiniest bartender hands around. It's adorable watching those big tins in those little things. He's got a great shake, a mean pour and if you tap the bar three times with your left hand and answer his riddle he'll shoot you a wink with a shot of fernet. read more

We ordered the biscuits, trout tartare, salmon, and roasted cauliflowers for lunch today. The biscuits were delicious! They came with butter (very smooth and light!) and prosciutto. The tartare was fresh and balanced out the biscuit. The salmon came with sungold cherry tomatoes, which added a nice sweet element to the meal. I ordered an orange juice for my drink, and it was one of the best orange juices I had ever had - freshly squeezed and so sweet! No sour taste to it at all! I would definitely come back. One thing to note is that the restaurant is hidden away inside the Hauser & Wirth entrance (you can enter through the back where the deliveries entrance is, but it's more inconvenient). read more

Absolutely adorable place for dinner! Do check out the chicken coop - it almost makes you not want to eat chicken because they are so fluffy. We started with drinks ($15 each) - I got a pomegranate cocktail and he got the angeleno spritz. For food, we had the hush puppies ($10), a veal burger ($12), a chicken entree ($27), brussel sprouts ($10), and ended with a sponge cake ($12). Everything was pretty good - this place sits comfortably at 3.5 stars in terms of the food with a bump up due to the ambiance. I highly recommend the hush puppies - mostly because of the butter and hot sauce. I preferred the chicken to the burger personally - but thought the entrees were a bit lacking for the price point. The brussel sprouts and sponge cake were solid. PS. It was his birthday and I noted it in the reservation but there was no fanfare :( read more

Had a reservation at Manuela on Saturday 3/25/23 - we came away incredibly happy and are looking forward to a return. The space itself is worth the trip as the indoor/outdoor vibe of the place feels unpretentious in the best way. Phenomenal service from our waiter helped guide us through the menu when normally we'd rely on crawling through Yelp reviews. Our cocktails took a little long to be delivered but once they were they were amazing. We started with the Cream Biscuits - these really are a revelation, and that's as someone from the South. Buttery goodness with extra butter on the side and for extra richness and a kick of salt the ham. This came out alongside the Cara Cara citrus salad, which should have been overshadowed but was so unique and interesting that it pulled attention from the showstopper biscuits. Definitely recommend. For our mains, we shared the half chicken and the dry aged sea bream. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and a delicious sauce. Unfortunately the Sea Bream was a bit of a let down for us - however, that may be more of a reflection on our own personal tastes as we both prefer our fish to not have such a fishy quality to it. All in all, the food was excellent and easily something to recommend. read more

Food was either depressingly bland; or oppressively salty. Service was entirely aloof. Overall, the experience felt like something with the establishment had gone cataclysmically wrong; hopefully limited to the circumstances of the evening, and not a diminished status quo. Forgot everything else in your life and order biscuits...LOTS OF THEM. I'm all about biscuits. Everywhere I go, that is the first thing I look for on a menu. This place has me dreaming about them... obsessing is probably more accurate. After my 2nd visit, I spent 3 hours reading about them online. Apparently they have a previous life at another restaurant. There are also people trying to crack the recipe...but that hasn't seemed to have happened yet. Did I mention I was obsessed? These buttery, melt in your mouth biscuits are THE fantasy I'm finally getting to live out in real life. Forget the beautiful atmosphere. Forget the great cocktails, delicious food, and attentive staff. Order some biscuits...and then order some more to go. read more

The vibes here are immaculate. This is inside the Hauser & Wirth building. Valet parking is available right in front or there are street parking blocks away. I checked in with my reservation made in advance and we waited for about 5-10 minutes to get seated. Understandable as this place is super busy. I reserved dining hall but they sat us in the patio. Weird. I assumed they would seat me in the dining hall as I reserved. But we got our waters served right away and drink orders in. The food is amazing here!! Everything we ordered was yummy including the scallops, salmon, and oysters. The server was also very busy so I found myself waiting around for a long time for the check. Other than that, it was great and I would come back again during the day! The patio seems a great fit for date night or group dinners. Moderate noise outside. Check it out! read more

Ok so this review is inspired out of this person who just left an incredibly ignorant, hateful, and unfair review about Manuela (see attached image). And believe me, I'm not a reviewer. Manuela is NOT a Mexican food restaurant. I was born and raised in Mexico. And I can tell you that Manuela is not a Mexican food restaurant and they are definitely NOT trying to be one. If you had to define it, Manuela is really a refined comfort food restaurant/bar with an eclectic menu for different tastes and great cocktails btw. Yes, they might have a margarita on their cocktail list, but so do 99.9% of places with a liquor license. Ok, so that's that. Now, mister or misses "Anonymous" because of course, you don't have the balls or ovaries it takes to show your name. Seriously, WTF??? What is wrong with you??? Did you ever get molested by rich white people? I want to try and understand, but nothing you're saying makes much sense. You are full of hate and baggage and Manuela HAS NOTHING to do with that. Girl go get help. There's therapy and stuff. I'm a business owner and I do NOT appreciate stupid hateful people projecting their own shit onto someone's business. Manuela does a great job. The smoked chicken breast was tender but lacked seasoning, and the Alabama white sauce wasn't what we'd expect from authentic Southern-style Bama sauce. Service and hospitality are just as important as the food, and unfortunately both fell well short of expectations. Based on this experience, it's highly unlikely that we'll be back.

I had the pleasure of dining at Manuela for lunch with a client visiting from out of town, and it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. After researching top restaurants in the Arts District, I stumbled upon Manuela, which not only boasted a Michelin-star-worthy reputation but also happened to be conveniently located within walking distance from the now-closed WeWork Arts District location. Upon arrival, I was immediately captivated by the rustic-chic ambiance of Manuela's setup. We opted to dine outside, taking advantage of the beautiful LA weather. Our server was exceptional, embodying the epitome of hospitality with their friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu. They guided us through the diverse selection of dishes, each crafted with seasonal ingredients and innovative flair. For lunch, we indulged in an array of tantalizing plates, including the creamy Burrata with Persian cucumber and trout roe, the flavorful Smoked albacore dip served with Carolina gold rice crackers, and the fresh Kusshi oysters with Nantes carrot mignonette. The main courses were equally impressive, with highlights such as the succulent Grilled grass-fed hanger steak with poblano chimichurri and the perfectly cooked Pan roasted Big Glory Bay salmon with serrano lebneh. Vegetarian options like the Roasted cauliflower and the Hen of the woods mushroom with polenta cake delighted our palates with their depth of flavor and creativity. To cap off the meal, we indulged in the decadent Butter cake with balsamic cherry reduction and mascarpone cream, which was the perfect sweet finale to an unforgettable dining experience. Overall, Manuela surpassed all expectations and left a lasting impression. It's amazing to see where the restaurant sources its fresh eggs and produce--it truly brings the farm-to-table concept to life. The food? Phenomenal. If you're looking for a great meal and cultural experience in the Arts District of LA, you've got to check out Manuela! They're all about supporting local farms and sustainable agriculture, which is awesome. Plus, there's indoor and outdoor seating available, so you can soak up the California sunshine while enjoying some delicious food with friends. The wine list is really impressive, and even though the glass selection is a bit limited, the prices are pretty reasonable. I had a delicious apple cider pear drink called Fruktstereo fink draft that was so good - definitely don't forget to swirl the bottle! The staff at Manuela is really chill, so I never felt rushed to make a decision or anything. I ended up getting the grilled grass-fed skirt steak with charred poblano & tomatillo vinaigrette, avocado, and fried eggs - and it was amazing. The steak had so much flavor, and the sauce was really tasty. The Butterball potatoes were also really good, but some of them tasted a little burnt, which was a bit disappointing. Oh well, maybe just an off day - I'd definitely give them another shot though. For dessert, I ordered a brown sugar cinnamon mocha latte and honey ice cream, and it was totally worth the wait. The coffee was great, and even though the ice cream was a little too milky for my taste, it was still really good. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking out Manuela - especially for Sunday brunch. It can get pretty busy though, so make sure to reserve a table in advance! read more

I recently visited Manuela LA when my dad was in town, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. You can truly taste the freshness of the ingredients--it's a genuine farm-to-table experience that stands out. We had a bit of a rocky start when they tried to seat us at one of the worst tables in the house, despite having a reservation. However, we decided to wait at the bar for a better spot, and it was worth the wait. We began our meal with the Kumiai oysters, which were fresh and delicious. I paired them with a glass of Louis Roederer, "244 Collection," Brut, which complemented the oysters perfectly. For our main course, we ordered the Roasted Liberty duck breast with smoked soubise, satsuma tangerine, and sumac duck fat. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We also had the Roasted local oyster mushroom with charred leek aioli, malt vinegar, and lemon. Additionally, we tried the grilled artichoke, which was another standout dish with its perfectly charred exterior and tender heart. The flavors were incredible, and each dish was a testament to the quality of the ingredients used. The service was amazing and they even let us split a few glasses of wine, which was nice. Despite the initial seating hiccup, our overall experience at Manuela LA was fantastic. The food was exquisite, and the atmosphere was charming.
