In spite of some horrible past experiences I've had at hair salons in NY, I recently plucked up some courage and decided to make a dramatic change in my hair--from all over black to a red balayage/ombre. Knowing from experience how wrong things can go when you're trying for a balayage/ombre look, I researched pretty extensively into hairdressers in Tucson who would be able to pull it off. After finding Maple Leaf Hair Co's great deals on Groupon, I looked on their FB page and found a photo of a beautiful blonde "sombre" look that a hairdresser named Rosie had done. Since it was so close to what I was going for, I figured it was destiny and booked an appointment. Minutes into my consultation with Rosie, I was already feeling really great about the style (which is saying a lot, given I am usually out of my mind with fear in salons). Not only was she just an incredibly sweet, lovely person, but she took me through what we were going to do step-by-step and asked me a ton of questions to make sure that we were both on the same page. I could see that she was consulting with other stylists about what she was doing, which was all the more comforting since it made me feel like I had a whole team of hairdressers overseeing what was going on. Getting my hair done was a lengthy process, which I anticipated coming in since my hair is super long and thick. Regardless, Rosie was very careful and meticulous throughout. While she was coloring my hair, she not only described what processes she was doing, but also the exact colors she was applying, the techniques that she was using etc. She seemed genuinely excited about doing my hair, and her passion for styling really came through In the end, my hair turned out WONDERFUL. The color was EXACTLY what I wanted, and the ombre was beautifully blended. She gave me a hug after my hair was done, and I can honestly say she was the loveliest, most talented hairstylist whom I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I took a friend of mine to get her hair done here for her 30th birthday a few months ago and I was weary about returning for myself due to the service we experienced. My friend just wanted a quick trim and to add a few more layers to her hair with blonde highlights. Our appointment was at 10 but nobody even greeted us until closer to 10:30. The only employees there were busy putting on their own makeup and doing their own hair. It wasn't until somebody from the back walked to the front to grab her bag and asked us if we had appointments. Being a nice person, I was understanding that sometimes people get a late start when opening a business, but why schedule somebody for 10 if you can't even get to them until after 10:30? Anyways, once my friend was called to the back to get her hair started, it took at least 3 hours before we were able to pay and leave. Once again I was understanding because it's not my occupation and I guess the amount of time to put blonde highlights in brown hair takes longer than we expected. Anyways, after the three hours, we were prompted to the front desk to pay, which ended being more expensive than we thought it would be. Anyways, all negative points set aside, my friend was more than happy with her hair.........for the first day. All day long she was complimented on her new style and color but the next evening she called me complaining how the stylist somehow missed a few spots and never added the layers she asked for. She went to a great clips and had them touch it up for her for only a portion of the time and price. She loved the color though! If you go to this place you will probably be sorry and not even have your appointment ladies....This place always bumps less expensive appts that were made days in advance to take more expensive ones later. This is the rudest salon I have ever been to! At least have the decency to cancel for Gods sake.... This is the third time the aesthetician has pulled this stunt and it's so unprofessional & mean spirited I can't believe it. It's 108 in July and I can't believe what this horrible place is pulling on new or less frequent clients. Very low class, desperate business tactics. They don't deserve business. They will tell you some amazingly illogical or downright stupid excuse on top of it that actually insults your intelligence. Then, the aesthetician hurried to get rid of me to do her $100 plus hair appt so much, it wasn't performed right and she tried to charge me an outrageous pumped up tag. Be careful with these small desperate salons! They're terrible! You might leave with horrible service, wait an hour at this place for nothing or have a bill three times what the real charge should be! Update two days later ladies.... This spiteful cheap owner called the police and told them to call me AT HOME over $25! You have the right not to pay for awful service in my America & this woman must have connections downtown. Please be careful with the local businesses in Tucson. They'll stand you up in 115 degree weather, do the worse service you have ever seen and use any sneaky trick to overcharge you. If you are looking for a salon in Tucson, look no further than Maple Leaf. I chose to try Maple Leaf because of the Yelp reviews and Marla's feedback, and I'm so glad I did! From simple cuts, to bold color, to wedding makeup, every single customer that I saw while I was there walked out highly satisfied and looking absolutely stunning. All of the stylists were great and I would trust any of them. As for my personal experience, I found a new hair BFF in Jackie. I get pretty anxious about getting my hair cut, but Jackie immediately put me at ease. We talked through what I wanted, and even though I'm not very good at explaining what I'm thinking, she knew just what to do. My hair is very thick and I like it to be very low-maintenance, so it takes skill to cut it right. Jackie did the best cut I have had in years (maybe ever!) - just the right amount of layers so that it is still long but so much lighter and easy to manage. It is perfect and I love it!!! I was also nervous to get professional color done for the first time, so she made it look very subtle and natural. It looked so beautiful, especially in sunlight. When I decided later that I wanted the color more bold, Jackie had me come back the next week and added a brighter red that really pops! I am absolutely in LOVE and I don't think I've ever been so happy with my hair!!! Thank you so much Jackie; you are the best! I'm using my husbands phone to write this review. My name is Grace. =) I googled best salons in tucson and came across maple leaf. I called and the lady booked me with Jackie. I told Jackie I wasn't sure on exactly what I wanted, but I knew it was highlights... I just wasn't sure on the color. Jackie was so polite and willing to help me pick out a color so quick. I felt confident that she would make my hair turn out to be amazing. As she was finishing up putting highlights in my hair, I asked her how does she think I should cut my hair because I felt like I needed a different look. She told me how she would cut my hair to make it look more balanced in the back and I loved her idea so I asked if she could cut it just the way she wanted to. When it was all said and done, after my hair was washed, cut, and blow dried.. I felt amazing! I couldn't stop looking at myself. Lol. Heck, I still can't stop looking at myself. Lol. After 3 yrs of being here in Az, I can now finally say that I found a real good hair stylist who knows how to cut and color hair. I can't wait to have Jackie cut my 4yr old hair. Heck, I can't wait to come back so I can have my hair styled. Jackie was so awesome to meet and talk to. I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend anyone to go see Jackie. I have read the pros and cons about this salon. I started off like some that the stylist did a great job on my hair. At 1st I honestly thought all was good and I would go back. The problem was my lo-lights and hi-lights washed out in 1 week!!!!! Although I used a groupon to introduce myself to this salon, I am definitely thankful I did not pay their high $$ for such a service that did not last at all like I'm used to. I don't know what happened for sure. I asked if a toner was used and of course I was told it was, WELL something went wrong!! I had to go back East to tend to my elderly mom so didn't get to go back immediately and get this corrected. When I spoke to the stylist about this later on, NOTHING was mentioned what they might do to correct the problem and a courtesy re-do service would have been appreciated to get me back in the door - NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING was suggested. I can't go to give another try and pay their high $$ and not know if I will be happy. Be careful is all I can say at this point. I'm trying to find someone I'm happy with and more permanent but obviously not this salon!! read more

This is the best place to get an awesome cut and style. I had a flat top for years until I tried this place. They worked at giving me a new style for my hair, showed me how to use their styling goop, gave me a great scalp massage, hot towel and did a nape blade shave on my neck. Much better than just neck trimmers. The atmosphere is great and all of the ladies are welcoming and friendly. I usually see Marla but if she is booked, then I see Candi, Kailey or Dani. They are all exceptional. I like that you dont have to ask for an eyebrow trim or to trim the ear hairs. I have even had my ear hair waxed which is a bit painful but keeps the ears looking good for a month. They take walkins but its best to schedule an appt. I love their online booking. Saturdays are very busy but they take late appts on Wednesday, Thursday's and Friday's. Tip, they give 20% off to military and first responders. read more

Cute local salon that opened in September with friendly staff and great stylists! They bent over backward to fit me in at the last minute. It had been over a month since my last cut & color, so I had roots and frizzies. Jessica was my stylist, and she did a fantastic job of blending my roots and grays into a deeper ash blonde shade closer to my natural color, then wove in a few highlights to brighten and add dimension. She has a light touch with the scissors, so my length is healthier and thicker at the ends but not drastically changed. I hate when hair shrinkage isn't taken into account and the cut is much shorter dry than hoped for, but no danger of that with Jessica. She did a nice blowout at the end and my hair has never looked better. Highly recommend! I anticipate they will get busier and busier. read more

I've been searching for quite some time for a stylist. It's been very hard to find but I finally found one!! The salon is very welcoming. The moment I walked in I was greeted by a friendly receptionist and offered water and coffee. My new and forever stylist,Erin, took the time to listen to what I wanted (also what I didn't want) and did it with a smile. I felt completely comfortable with her, which as you know is important. I had a balayage, cut and style and it looks absolutely beautiful!!! I haven't been this happy in years! If you're wondering should I try this salon-do it! Her hands and techniques were excellent! I was feeling wonderful and relaxed when I met Jessica Z. who cut/styled my hair immediately following. Jessica answered all my questions about making a change and gave me a cut/style that was a change I was looking for. I am extremely glad I went! Today I had the distinct privilege of getting both my neckline and hair trimmed and cleaned up by Marla. She was very thorough, professional, considerate and helped me look like a businessman. I've gone to a lot of different hair dressers, stylists and barbers in my life, but today was a unique "experience". She evaluated how to make me look my best which will in turn help when I present information during Zoom calls this afternoon. I got a haircut by Alexis today! She is an absolutely amazing hairstylist who knows exactly what she is doing. This was my first haircut in 5 years and she ended up helping me out with what products I should be using (something Ive been struggling with!) and how to maintain my hair after its been cut alongside giving incredibly recommendations on what I should do with my hair given my low maintenance hair care routine. All in all, for someone who was scared to go get my hair cut- she alleviated all of my anxiety and had me walking out feeling like a new person! read more

Candi cut my hair the very first time I went there and it was amazing! They did a brow wax, a facial hair tinting and I walked out looking and feeling wonderful! The environment was tranquil, inviting and the staff is welcoming. Dani did my haircut the second time and it was amazing too! All the stylists there are talented and have their own unique touch! I get my hair cut, colored and styled at Maple Leaf Hair Co. The staff all seem knowledgable and helpful and, most important, professional. Having long, thick, but fine, hair- it can sometimes be a challenge for a stylist to cut correctly so everything isn't weighed down and it has nice curl and lift. Marla does a fantastic job using the right cut to style my hair- then is a master at color mixing to boot. When I recently moved to Tucson, I was worried about finding the right hair professional.
