I've lived here for two years before leaving…read more MANAGEMENT: I experienced 3 different management the 2 years I lived here. High turnover rate usually isn't a good sign. BATHROOM VENTILATION: The bathroom fan doesn't work well. We had to buy a dehumidifier to prevent mold in the bathroom when showering. Ricardo, the new maintenance manager, verbally said he would come fix the bathroom vent but he never showed up. CONNECTED BATHROOM VENTS: The downstairs bathroom ventilation is connected to our bathroom unit upstairs. Yes, you can smell your neighbors taking a #2. Our previous downstairs unit moved out and the smells were most notable when they were reglazing the bathtub in the unit below ours. The fumes vented to our bathroom. Emergency maintenance said it was epoxy and that it was okay to breathe. Wrong, inhaling epoxy fumes is harmful, especially when it is still curing. It gave us headaches, chest pain, and nausea. You can smell the fumes even from 10 feet away from the building. Ricardo came and opened all of the windows downstairs and told us to open all of our windows to ventilate it. We left for a couple of hours but the smell was really strong when we came back, so we booked a hotel for the night just so we won't get poisoned. We asked management if they can credit us for having to vacate to a hotel or give us rent abatement but NOPE, nothing. TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION: Terrible communication. They don't respond to your emails. I emailed them about the water shut offs but they don't even take accountability for turning it off without sufficient notice (3/14/25). They bet on no one noticing. I emailed them about fixing the water sprinklers near our building because it was shooting upwards and hitting the side of our building, but no response (9/2/2025). They silently fixed it without any follow up. We emailed them to ask about the specific epoxy they used to reglaze the bathtub following the bathroom incident but they never emailed us back (9/19-9/30/25). They inconveniently shut off water the week I was moving stuff out and needed water to finish tidying up the unit. BAD INSULATION: The insulation is so bad. The windows are so thin, there is a lot of condensation during the colder months. Literal puddles on the window sill. Better wipe it daily and clean with vinegar otherwise your windows will be black and you will be breathing mold. BUGS: Lots of fungus gnats even though we pour vinegar down the drain and take trash out regularly. We luckily didn't have a cockroach issue in this building but I've noticed a lot of spiders, assassin bugs, leaf footed bugs, and occasional ants. Greenery looks nice here but it comes with bugs. SECURITY NONEXISTENT: Nonexistent security. My car got hit when I used to park it on the street. I asked if they had cameras facing the street because I parked it near the leasing office but they said no. (1/9/2025) Extra 25$ a month for a parking spot in the apartment complex. HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS: There are homeless encampments by the field near the freeway, although they usually don't bother you. Once there was a big fire next to the apartments by the field from them (8/3/2025). You can feel the heat of the fire on the other side of the fence where the trail is. When we initially moved in, the gate to the trail was locked and only tenants had keys. The homeless people broke the lock for access so the gate never locks anymore. PRE MOVE OUT INSPECTION: They showed up late to the appointment time we booked for the pre move out inspection. I don't think anyone would have came if we didn't email them. We never even received the pre move out inspection report. SECURITY DEPOSIT: The security deposit came extremely late Jan 19, 2026. We moved out November 29, 2025. They mailed the invoice within 21 days of move out but not the security deposit (not even the check or email link). The email link came two months later, and it is not even from yardi (what they advertised what it will come from). They also mentioned charging everyone for carpet cleaning but they aren't allowed to do that. Look up AB 2801 FINAL NOTES: The interactions before we moved out left a sour taste in our mouth. Greystar is very shady. They have a bunch of lawsuits. I don't recommend living here.

I was never called or emailed, just left a note on my door. When I returned, I discovered several personal and important items were missing, including medical insurance documents and a diamond ring. Shortly after, I found out my medical insurance had been canceled due to suspected fraud. The mailed notice had been sent to an old address--something I would have caught if my documents hadn't been tampered with. I only discovered the issue when I tried to book an appointment following a miscarriage and a serious lung infection. I was left emotionally, physically, and financially vulnerable--and management showed zero compassion or urgency in response. But it gets worse. Once I informed them I was terminating the lease under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), they began retaliating--tampering with mail, disrupting deliveries, and making the parcel box system unusable. Instead of professionalism, I was met with hostility. After filing the police report against the maintenance worker, Daniel Guzman, my mail suddenly started getting tampered with. I've traveled internationally five times this past year--three times while living here--and never had issues. But suddenly, my mailbox was cleared out, I received empty packages, and I had to track down my mail at the post office--only to be told it was in a parcel box. When I checked, it was completely empty. The most chilling part? Garbage disposal spitting dirty water, dishwasher not draining, hole in bathroom wall caused by water damage, screen door not locking properly, screens falling off outside bedroom window, crack in tile, towel holder kept falling off couldn't beat weight of a single towel, and lastly dryer not heating up to its full capacity. Under California Civil Code § 1941.1, landlords are legally required to maintain doors, locks, and windows in good working condition. A functional sliding door isn't a luxury--it's a legal obligation under the warranty of habitability. Management failed to meet even the most basic standards of safety and decency. And let's be clear: under California Civil Code § 1954, landlords must provide at least 24 hours' written notice before entering a unit--and entry must happen at reasonable times with respect for a tenant's privacy. A note on the door is not enough. And touching a tenant's mail? That's a federal crime under 18 U.S. Code § 1708. How many federal laws broken now? I especially appreciated that Amanda took the time to understand what I was looking for in a home. Rather than trying to upsell us to a larger unit, she listened to my priorities, particularly my preference for natural light and helped us find an apartment that truly met our needs. My boyfriend and I toured more than 20 apartment communities, and we greatly value having a responsive on-site team that never felt pushy throughout the leasing experience. Our email communication was clear, organized, and informative. The information provided about the apps and move-in process was well-structured and easy to follow. On move-in day, Amanda also took the time to assist us with our move-in checklist and address additional questions and concerns. So far, our experience at The Mason has been very positive. Management has been extremely poor and dismissive when residents raise legitimate concerns. Noise complaints go unresolved for weeks, including constant music, stomping, screaming, and disturbances throughout the property. Residents are expected to simply "deal with it," even when it impacts sleep, work, and quality of life. It's clear this is not an isolated issue, as many residents are moving out for the exact same reasons. The property itself is also severely neglected. Dog feces are constantly left around the community -- including inside elevators -- yet management does not treat it with any urgency. The grounds, common areas, and breezeways are filthy and poorly maintained, creating both health and safety concerns. Trash sits for extended periods, hallways are dirty, and the overall appearance of the property has drastically declined. The same trash is left for weeks. No porter service. No property walks from staff. They depend on residents to provide them complaints to react, but no active approach is taken, instead excuses. To make matters worse, the security company is largely unresponsive and ineffective. Calls and concerns often go unanswered, leaving residents feeling unsupported and unsafe. Doors are propped open 24/7. For the amount residents pay to live here, the lack of cleanliness, accountability, and basic management standards is incredibly disappointing. tldr; This is a horrible place to live…read more I lived here for a year and a half. We found bugs the first day we moved in, and consistently the entire time we lived here. Management knows of the infestation, but only sprays once a month. There is no guest parking, and the parking lot is not large enough for even the residents. For 5 months, while I lived there, a construction project made the already limited parking worse. Tenants were told the project would only take 2 months. I moved out just in time, as another "2 month" construction project was starting as I left. The laundry room only has 4 washer and dryer machines, only 2 of which were consistently working at any given time. The property manager, is rude, uncommunicative, and unreasonable. I made several domestic disturbance complaints while there, and she was unwilling to address these. When my boyfriend and I moved out, we got the apartment floors professionally cleaned twice before leaving. Despite this, they threatened to charge us an additional $8k including our security deposit to replace the entire flooring. Management used intimidation tactics, and would text us at 3am during the move out process. The property violated many landlord/tenant codes during the time we lived there, and in the move out.
