I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for dinner. We had both been past marathon diner before and never thought much of it. As a matter of a fact I was avoiding it, not for any particular reason. So why did I come here you ask? Well we had a Yelp elite event at the airport and their food was actually quite good and so I decided to stop on my next personal trip. Since it's located in the airport there isn't too much to say about it other than it's a counter in the center core. They serve breakfast all day long and I believe their name is Marathon in order to reference their Greek roots. For dinner on this day my wife and I both decided to get gyros with fries. After about a five minute wait our food was ready. The first thing that I tasted were our fries which were quite good. They were piping hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Next up was the gyro which seemed wet and quite messy. As a matter of a fact I didn't even try to pick it up with my hands and ate it with a fork from the start. The gyro meat inside of it was good and there was a good amount of it. It had vegetables of lettuce, tomato and onion which gave it color and made it feel healthier. Last but certainly not least was the tzatziki sauce which tasted good but seemed rather watery. It was bad enough that I debated about whether or not to eat the pita. Since I was hungry, I did but a soggy pita isn't that great. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Minus the soggy pita, I enjoyed everything that I had here and my wife did as well. read more

One thing I never expect to encounter at an airport is a diner, so when I Marathon Diner at the Pittsburgh International Airport, I was definitely intrigued, especially as someone who enjoys some traditional diner dishes, I figured this was where I needed to eat before my flight out of PIT. Yes, folks, this is a diner. It's a diner in the sense of what you can order, however, it's not a diner in the sense of seating- it's not a restaurant where you're waited on. You order and take your items to-go, which is fine, but if you're wanting a full sit down diner experience, this isn't it. The staff, both the girl who rung me up and the guy who I presume was the manager were friendly. There was other staff (cooks) there as well, but I had no interaction with them. For an airport restaurant, I didn't think the price was out of this world. I went with a simple burger, fries, and a Coke. I think it ran me around $14, which again, wasn't bad for a freshly made meal that's served piping hot. I thought the meal overall was okay. The only downside was I thought the burger was kind of bland. It didn't taste like it had much seasoning to it so ketchup to the rescue. The fries were good and were nice and crispy. I liked the experience here. I'd check it out again if I find myself needing a meal at the Pittsburgh airport. It's a welcome change from bland pizza and McDonalds. Overall, I liked it. Next time though I have to give their breakfast a try- it looked pretty amazing. read more

During the recent Yelp scavenger hunt event my husband and I got to this place as one of the last venues. We were pretty full from eating elsewhere but told them if they would bag our sample we would eat it at home. They were more than happy to do this for us. I asked them as far as other locations were concerned. This is the only one in the city and it is Greek themed. When we finally were able to have our "doggie bag" I was pleased that they gave us a small gyro which is one of their specialties, along with lemon chicken soup, and oyster crackers. Believe me it did not disappoint. It was just enough for a light meal later. They have a rewards program that if you buy 7 sandwiches or salads then you get the 8th one free. When i got home I had a chance to review the menu in detail. the serve a vegetarian gyro, specialty burgers and specialty sandwiches along with sides. Everything is ala carte however, you can get a side of fries and coleslaw at a reduced price if you order a sandwich. Breakfast items are available as well which does includes omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, and two eggs your way. Expect to pay a little more since you are at the airport but they are on par with some of neighborhood diners I have visited. Since it is part of the fast casual approach don't expect table service however, there is a food court eating area behind the row of fast food eateries on the left side of the center core. They do offer egg white substitutes if you have health issues. The only thing I found lacking on their menu was desserts. All they offer is rice pudding. Don't expect to see those gigantic pies and cakes you would normally find. Still they have a good variety of Greek fare selections which is a novel approach to casual dining whether you plan to eat there or take it with you in flight. Now that non passengers can visit the airside terminal during weekdays only this place is a must return for me next time I find myself out that way. read more

I was at the airport early for a flight and decided to catch a bite to eat. A few months ago I switched to a strict vegetarian diet and I walked around the airport looking for some options and I stumbled onto this place. I liked the idea of a small little dinner spot in the airport for people to get some home style lunch and breakfast items. One thing to point out tho was that the staff where not very nice and where basically arguing with each other the whole time. I got the black bean burger with fries and it was absolutely terrible it wouldn't even stay together as a patty. The fries where bland and the bun was not even toasted. Overall I definitely do not recommend coming to this place. read more

It is hard to find quality food in an airport, but marathon diner seemed to be the exception. I wanted to grab breakfast before my flight so I stopped here and ordered the Greek omelet. It's basically a gyro in an omelet. The omelet was pretty good and it came with toast and potatoes. The potatoes could have used some seasoning, but adding salt helped out a bit. read more

I went here as part of a food tasting event. I got to try the lamb gyro, as well as the Greek lemon chicken soup. The gyro was absolutely delicious. The pita was warmed and the lamb was fresh, flavorful, and not greasy at all. The gyro had the perfect amount of toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion) and the tzatziki sauce was delicious - it was definitely homemade, creamy and tangy, with lots of dill for flavor. The gyro was proportioned very well, where you could get a little bit of everything in each bite! The lemon chicken soup was something I've never had before so it was a kick to the face in flavor that I wasn't expecting. It is very tangy, just shy of sour, with perfectly cooked orzo, small bits of chicken, and a flavorful chicken broth that was a bit thicker than your standard chicken soup. It was served with oyster crackers which I didn't use because the soup was delicious on its own and didn't need them. I will definitely look for lemon chicken soup on the menu the next time I visit a Greek establishment! The items I got to try were cooked to order, flavorful, and comforting. I was very impressed with the quality of each and every ingredient and the elevated taste of a standard gyro, without the guilt. Marathon Diner is definitely a solid choice for those wanting some quick comfort food at an affordable price. Wow. I just spent $33 here and threw away all the food. I know there has to be some grace for airport restaurants but this was pretty bad. Stay away from the gyros. Marathon Diner may not look fancy, but I had the best airport meal of my life here! Skip the long line at McDonald's and head to Marathon for authentic, fresh, made-to-order Greek diner food. The veggie gyro ($10) was filled with peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, lettuce, and feta cheese. So good, and I almost feel like it was healthy?! The guy working at the griddle (possibly the owner?) was really nice about asking whether I wanted banana peppers, cheese, etc., so I'm sure they would accommodate special requests. I love that Marathon offers a tasty and satisfying vegetarian option, because the cheese pizza slices at Villa just looked sad! Obviously I was just here for dinner, but Marathon Diner serves breakfast too! Definitely stop here if you are hungry in the Pittsburgh airport. I had a gyro and a Greek salad. Gyro had great flavor but was soggy. I spoke with someone else who told me they had same experience- with crispy pita this would be a 5 star place. Greek salad was awesome! Green leaf lettuce with feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and wonderful sweet Greek dressing on the side so you decide how much. The gyro comes with fries or vinegar based coleslaw. Fast service and great food -- just need to solve the soggy pita. read more

I was having a rough morning at the airport with various delays, cancellations, and re-routes, and I stumbled across Marathon Diner because they were the only place still serving breakfast at 11 am. (Their breakfast is available all day actually!) I got my "Big Fat Greek" omelet, and an iced coffee. The omelet was delicious! The gyro meat was tender and yummy (and I don't even typically like gyro meat), and the Taziki was light and refreshing. Also, the gentleman who I presume was the owner was working and was very kind and friendly. The cashier was also very patient with me (I was a bit of a mess). Some reason I posted my review on check-in instead of the actual review. I was traveling and headed home but wanted a hearty breakfast. I saw the reviews and had to try. I got the western omelette and it was amazing. I substituted spinach for the green peppers and they even had Tabasco sauce (thought you could only find this in the south!). Food was amazing and fresh. There potatoes are squares. Only wish they had hash browns. When I fly in/out of Pittsburgh, I will go hear again. Marathon Diner was a pleasant surprise. Most airports try and hit you with a premium on food. For about $10-11 you can get a solid omelette served with a large amount of cut up potatoes (they called them fries). If you're at the airport stop at Marathon for breakfast. They also have burgers and some other lunch items. They're reasonable on pricing and the food was pretty good. It's easy to miss as are the rest of restaurants in this section of the airport. You'll see Dunkin Donuts (opposite side of the gate B26 area). If you keep walking towards your left you'll then see McDonalds and a few other locations. Marathon is in this area. read more

My husband and I grabbed a quick dinner here before our flight. He has previously had their Marathon Gyro and was going to repeat that order. I chose the Turkey Club Panini with a side of fries. The food came out in a timely manner. When I opened the box, I was a little disappointed in what I saw. Paninis are typically flattened with nice grill marks. My sandwich was very small with lightly toasted bread, with all of the contents coming out of it. And the fries? Though warmed, they tasted like they were straight from the freezer. My husband enjoyed his gyro. Maybe this place thrives on making Greek food, but if you're going to spend $10 on an almost less than average sandwich and fries, find another restaurant in the airport. read more

This was a great find in the Pittsburgh Airport. And early in the morning open with a great set of breakfast offerings and coffee( including decaf). Greek coffee too as one of their specialties. Finding healthy eats when traveling is hard! All I wanted was a salad with some protein. Apparently McDonald's no longer carries salads. Head over to another 15 minute wait at Chic-Fil-A and no greens there either. Are vegetables a thing of the past? Turned around and saw Marathon Diner and went over to see what they had. Score! Marathon diner has salads and a bunch of other great looking options. I ordered the Greek Salad with grilled chicken. It was huge and looked so fresh! They cooked the chicken fresh too on the grill. This was probably one of the best salads I have ever had! Crisp lettuce and fresh veggies, with savory grilled chicken. I did not expect any place in the airport to have this kind of quality and freshness of ingredients. This little diner will definitely be my go-to when traveling in the airport. The only downside would be that it's only available when traveling. I'd love to see another Marathon diner outside of the airport that we can visit all the time! read more

My recent delay in leaving Pittsburg found me at the airport HUNGRY at 4 AM after check-in looking for an open place for coffee and breakfast other than Mcdonald's or another chain. I always want to support locals whenever possible and was happy to see this diner open and an all-day breakfast advertised. I thought since they serve this meal all day it must be worth a try. First and FOREMOST while waiting in line Sherry has the BEST positive spirit and attitude with excellent customer service skills while taking orders. She even glances over when busy to be sure the cooks are doing OK and offers to help them. I listened to her while waiting my turn and felt grateful to have her energy and spirit surround me. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with coffee which she suggested I get a meal and coffee is free. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and just the way I asked with crispy bacon, great eggs, and bread was so filling. My only suggestion is I wished the potatoes had a bit more flavor to my liking, maybe a seasoned salt or sauteed onions added would have made my taste buds happy. However, the breakfast was filling and delicious, THANK YOU Delta for the food voucher that Sherry graciously helped me utilize. On my layover and decided on Marathon Diner! I didn't have time for sit down so chose this over Chick-Fil-A and pizza. The vegetarian gyro was yummy and a healthy option compared to the others. I opted for slaw over the fries but regretted it because I didn't love the slaw. It is a vinegar base but just seemed flavorless. They serve breakfast all day! This is fantastic! read more

Second time through. Real food prepared by real people, not machines and chemicals. Both times I was here, pilots and flight attendants were ordering also. I was walking through the airport and saw this place. Decided I would try it. The gentleman who took my order was very friendly and professional. I ordered the BYO hamburger. Had everything except onions. Once seated on my flight I took out my burger. Took a bite. Spit it out!! I had my husband to taste it. Same results. Not for sure what meat it was but it was not good.
