The food and drinks were good. However, there are a lot of good Mexican restaurants in North Texas. What made the experience great was our server, Brooklynn, particularly her positive attitude. At some restaurants, it feels like the staff doesn't want to be there - like they don't care. From our AirBnB, we walked down to Maria's and were seated promptly near the bar, from which we watched the USA vs. Paraguay World Cup Game. I think "chic" is an appropriate descriptor for Maria's and it definitely had an upscale vibe. The bartender brought us water and our waitress brought chips and salsa. The first round of chip seemed a bit stale and the salsa was cold, which I am not certain is a thing or not or even fitting for muggy Dallas evenings. Anyway, our second round of chips were much better. I ordered the Tacos Al Carbon with the Four Corners El Chingon IPA, which was a revelation. My wife ordered the Ensalada Princesa and a glass of Cabernet. I thought the Princess Salad was delightful and preferred it to the Tacos Al Carbon, which were a little overpowered by queso, which is not uncommon in Texas. The dining areas, both inside and out are beautiful and probably the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen in a Mexican restaurant. Maria's is definitely a place that you should check out, especially if you can walk there and walk back... after several beers. Admittedly, I tend to gravitate to more of the blue collar, hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants, where I am the only one who's native language is English, but I do enjoy a soirée into the high life, now and again. Maria's Mexican Kitchen is a new Mexican restaurant in the Irving-Las Colinas Waters Street development. Maria's takes over the space once occupied by Hugo's. The menu is great, as was my service, and nothing beats the view at Water Street. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Look for the purple Maria's neon sign and head in. You'll be greeted by a dedicated hostess stand. The restaurant is well-designed with a wall that separates the full bar with the dining area. It's open, bright, and has plenty of tables and booths. 1 Star. Service - On my Thursday visit for lunch, we had excellent service. The Las Colinas lunch crowd started to fill Maria's, but our server was very attentive, gave some excellent recommendations, and was always smiling. I felt very welcome. 1 Star. Food - I started with the Queso Fundido with chorizo. This fried cheese dish was served on a sizzling hot platter, and the cheese had an excellent pull. When placed into warm, blue corn tortillas, this appetizer almost turned into my meal. Almost.... because the Enchiladas Tres Colores (recommended by our server) was an excellent choice for my main. First, the dish exploded with color, and each sauce added its own unique flavor (Sour Cream, FTW). Prices run a little higher than a casual Mexican restaurant, but it's worth it. 1 Star. Solid spot! We popped in after work one day and were seated immediately. The space is open and looks nice. They also had live music, which was a nice touch! We ordered food and drinks and everything was tasty. I will warn that the queso has meat in it, and I wish we would've known prior to ordering, but other than that no complaints! Ok.. if you're questions whether to go, read my review please! I am local to Las Colinas, and previously very familiar with Hugo's. My first visit to Maria's was in the early days of their opening. Now, the first time I went I remember it was good, absolutely loved the interior design and tiles chosen.. but in regard to the meal itself, I was indifferent. Now fast forward to now, or the last two months or so.. we decided to give it a try again, zero expectations, and I kid you not, best Mexican food I've had in town. And I can confidently say I've had the best of the best Mexican food around here. But truly, it is so delicious, I have gone back several times. I even did take out once because I kept thinking how good a dish was. So to give you the download, the chips and salsa is great. The chips are like pita chips almost, salsa not too hot. Cocktail choices are also wonderful, I really enjoy the frozen Paloma. As far as food, that's where they thrive. Maria's has a seafood tone to all of their dishes, and you can't go wrong. If you want to be more simple, they also have the best quesadillas you will ever eat. While the overall service of the team seems to be in progress, I'll just say the dishes are so well done visually as well as to taste, that I'm solely going for the excellent food. First time here, and the waitress was attentive and checked on us regularly. We started with the chips and salsa, which was pretty good. I ordered the Tacos and since it comes with 3, I decided to try the Barbacoa, Carnitas, and Carne Asada. It was a bit of a wait for us to get our food, but after eating it, it was worth it. The Barbacoa was juicy and flavorful, and the consommé made it even better. The Carne Asada was good too. The meat was nice and tender. But my favorite would have to be the Carnitas. The crispy pork with cheese was so yummy that I ate half at first and after eating the other two tacos, I ate the other half to end the meal with that. The ambiance of this place is nice. However for how nice the ambiance is and how expensive the food is, I am VERY disappointed in the service I received. We wanted the queso but there was a 45 minute wait for tortilla chips.. what Mexican restaurant doesn't have this in surplus? We ordered our drinks and food, but were never checked up on afterward. And we never got chips even after 45 minutes. I had ordered chicken enchiladas and someone else in my part ordered the steak but they didn't know which was which. Also after the food was brought out, the server never came and checked on us until the check was brought out. Very poor service. The enchiladas were pretty good but not worth $22 and weren't anything to die for. Esp because it doesn't even come with rice or beans. Way better Mexican restaurants out there that have better service and bang for your buck. read more

So after trying Maria's in FW, I knew I was in for a good meal. There was plenty of seating midday on a Sunday. Everything we ordered was as great (blue corn pancakes were my fave, but the french toast, carne asada, and asada de puerco were great too). We also had the queso fundido as an appetizer and it was fantastic. The texture of the chips is fantastic. Theyre the extra crispy kind that you find in SoCal. We will absolutely go back... but there were oddities in the serving that would wear on me long term. The queso was served with tortillas, but there weren't enough for the people at our table and we hadn't been warned. After waiting for our server to return, we finally flagged someone down. Then someone ordered a side, but their meal ended up having that item already - why not mention that when we ordered? Toward the end of the meal we would go long stretches without service, to the point we probably waited 10 minutes for our check because the check had to specifically be brought by a manager and picked up by another person? But our server did not have anything to do with the payment process. Which is fine, but we waited way too long. Again, the food was good enough that we will definitely be back, plus the walking area is lovely by the canal. Good replacement for Hugo's, bringing back a decent margarita that Hugo's once had early on but forget how to make. Chips and salsa was great! Fresh and homemade. Accidentally was delivered the seafood quesadilla. Was great the next day heated up to golden brown and crispy! The homemade tortillas were nice! The seafood enchiladas were good but a bit bland. Maybe that means they're healthier than normal? ;) Service was fantastic. Ambiance is very nice, although I miss the mannequins! Went here on a Saturday night for a late dinner the place is new and has the ambience of a new spot. Food was tasty I had the Del Mar quesadillas it was ok it came with rice and refried beans. The restaurant was only about 15-20% full and we were immediately seated but were left waiting at our table for 20 minutes without anyone waiting on us and ended up having to go inside to ask to be served. 5 minutes later a server came, we tried to place our order asap only to find out the brunch menu we were served was no longer being offered (because of how long it took us to be waited on). We ordered tacos but had to remind them several times to bring us the basics like water and chips and salsa. The other tables around us had their severs come by regularly check on them but we barely saw ours and ultimately ended up having to go inside to pay because once again we were left waiting for a long time. It was overall a really weird experience and there was no attempt to correct or compensate for forgetting about us. The food was good, nothing crazy but not bad. My low review comes from the service. I made a reservation for a birthday and they sat us outside which could be fine if they asked or we requested it. But instead we were with the bugs and cold. They took very long to bring chips and salsa, then the server was no where to be found for a long time. We finally saw him and had to ask if we could order our entrees because we wouldn't see him for awhile. The next thing was we brought a cake, I was unaware we would be charged to bring and eat our own cake. $20 added onto the total for "cake service" . I would understand if they served it to us, or at least kept it in the fridge while we waited for our server to finally come around. The food was fantastic, and the Parrilla Fajitas are truly the star of the menu -- bold, sizzling, and not to be missed. The craft cocktails are on another level. Christian is a real mixologist, and you can tell every drink is original and thoughtfully made. The food was good I have to say, but the service was subpar. Our server took our drink and food order, but as soon as we got our food, he ignored our table the rest of the service. Didn't ask about our food or if we needed another round of drinks yet he was focused on his other tables. I went here once before on their opening weekend and had an amazing time so I raved about it and brought my whole family here to celebrate a birthday. I was so embarrassed with the service I received. Forgot items that we ordered but proceeded to charge us for all of them. Service was painfully slow. We had an important allergy and reminded our server multiple times of this and she would take our order ensuring us there was no allergen, and then someone else would come from the back to let us know that the dish she served did indeed have the allergen!! Additionally, for the 1.5 hours we were there, not once was our water refilled. Took about 25 min of us sitting with an empty table at the end to even just receive our check. The only feedback that I have is to add more options on the menu for vegetarians because options were limited, but Ramon made a recommendation and our guest was happy. Went for my birthday brunch. Location is centrally located in Las Colinas, ambiance was nice. Service was not great. Our waitress took my drink order, quickly walked away and didn't ask the others what they would like to drink. Then when she returns, they ask her if she's going to take their order and she laughed and said oh my bad, then said I asked but nobody said anything when she didn't ask. I ordered the Horchata White Russian and it tasted nothing like Horchata. It tasted bitter, kind of had a coffee taste. I sent it back. I then ordered the Mexican Candy which I've had plenty of places and when I tasted this drink, it tasted super spicy like fire going down my throat. I sent that drink back and the manager asked what was wrong and I told him they put too much Tabasco sauce and he said no they actually use some jalapeño infused alcohol and I told him well it's too spicy so he asked if I wanted it without that alcohol and I said yes, please. So then I get that drink but no just no. Not sure if it was the bartender or what but that was not a Mexican Candy drink. That would have been the third time I returned a drink but my son said he would just drink it. And he too said it was not good but drank it anyway. Then our food comes. My daughter ordered Barbocoa tacos and they looked good then she picks up a taco and there was a hair under her taco on the plate. She sent it back of course and they apologized and offered something else but she lost her appetite after that. I ordered the Cuatro Leches French Toast and it tasted like just regular French toast. No kind of flavor or just sweetness at all. I ended up switching my plate with my sons, he ordered the barbocoa enchiladas but he wasn't a fan of the sauce. I actually enjoyed his enchiladas. I didn't even like the chips and salsa. Chips were thick and had no flavor. Salsa was flavorless and no spice. Our first time visiting and unfortunately our last. I really thought we were going to enjoy everything with the reviews I've read but nope not to our liking. Kind of looked like they are more about presentation than taste. Maria's Restaurant officially opened today, and I had the honor of being their very first guest. From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a celebrity, setting the tone for a truly memorable dining experience. I dined in for lunch and enjoyed the Pacific halibut, which was cooked to perfection--delicately seasoned, flavorful, and beautifully balanced in every flake. The wine selection was impressive, and the Scarletta paired wonderfully with my meal. The décor and ambiance were bright, colorful, and uplifting, creating a warm and happy atmosphere that enhanced the entire experience. Exceptional service made the meal even more special. My server, Alyssa, was professional, welcoming, and knowledgeable, greeting me with a warm smile and genuine hospitality--especially impressive for a restaurant on its opening day.
