They have a fresh fried oyster special they run when they are on hand but I have yet to catch them, they are normally sold out . The wait can normally be 30 min to an hour but it's worth it. COVID update: I have been eating at this place for years. But, since COVID, nothing has changed except the number of people they can serve, due to social distancing. Also, the waiting area must be clear, so you must wait outside, or in your vehicle. Since cool weather is upon us, and they are serving at 50% capacity, log-on to their online waitlist to move your party up in line. It is still worth the wait! I went for breakfast yesterday morning around 9:30am. My girlfriend recommended this place. She warned me about the wait. It wasn't bad though-15min. It's a small place, quaint and clean. However, she didn't warn me about the parking. The lot is very small and it was packed! And there's no adjacent parking so you have to be patient or look for alternative parking close by and walk. Of course, you have the carry out option. Food was good. My daughter and I shared a delicious waffle. Bacon is nice and crispy; slices are a nice size. My grand baby had silver dollar pancakes that were the biggest ones I've ever seen. Our eggs were cooked to order. All in all, the food was good and plentiful. The scrapple was fried just right. Good tasting coffee too. Prices were reasonable. Next visit, I'll try the pie in the display case. The apple and lemon meringue looked delish! read more

Grandma was amazing, so sweet and her goal was to make sure we were satisfied at all times. The food...*sigh* every time I think about it, I remember that good time that I had indulging in every bite. The pancake that's the size of your plate, yep that's right, the pancake is the size of your plate...so nice and buttery, cooked to perfection. I ordered eggs fried hard, bacon, and a side of grits. When I say that grits were so good that they needed NOTHING. I have never in my life had grits good enough that they needed absolutely nothing in them!! Eggs were good, bacon was ok. Maries Diner is my all time favorite place to eat breakfast. If you do not like waiting come super early. Servings are so huge, tasty and the pancakes are fall off the plate. My first time visiting this establishment in several years. The food was terrible. First we ordered Mozzarella Sticks which came out and were not stringy at all. As if they had been sitting. Next I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Breast minus the gravy. Maybe I should have gotten it with the gravy and it would have been at least warm. I can't believe I lived in Charles County for 20 years and never came to this place. On a road trip from VA back to Columbia, MD, I decided to stop. On a Monday afternoon past the lunch rush this place was still hopping! While I was super tempted by the SUPER BLT ( Almost a pound of smoked Bacon on thick sliced whole grain wheat bread with lettuce and tomato), I selected the Turkey Bacon Ranch: Sliced turkey with bacon & choice of melted cheese on grilled Kaiser roll. This was real turkey, not lunch meat! YUMMO. My dining partner chose the Classic Club on toasted rye. He loved it. There is a huge menu and apparently they serve breakfast all day. I saw a few other diners eating gargantuan omelettes and pancakes too. Their "Marie's Burger" : topped with caramelized onions, melted blue cheese and bacon sounded very good and it's a sure bet I'll try this next time I come by this place. read more

Their waffles are so light, crispy outside, tender inside, perfect to soak up wonderfully homemade strawberry or blueberry topping sauce, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, its heaven. Their breakfast combo is also incredibly generous, cooked perfectly as you like. My husband go for the grilled pork chop with home fry potatoes and 4 eggs with a side of re toast while my son loves the big thick slice smoked ham with eggs and potatoes . Portions are huge, be aware since every one of us had to take food home. They were very busy since it was Sunday about 11:45 when we got here. Had to wait about 15 - 20 minutes to be seated. Reasonable given the huge crowd waiting. Things moved along quickly. Our waitress appeared almost instantly, kept our glasses full, frequently checked on us, and was cheerful without being fake. Huge thumbs up. Food was out within 15 minutes of us ordering. This is diner food so it was a bit greasy (exactly why we wanted diner food!) and again, huge portions. Marie's Diner is a diner that has been around La Plata for quite some time. This local favorite offers a variety of breakfast specialties, lunch, and dinner entrees. The hubs and I came here for a weekend breakfast, and we ordered: the New York Strip and Eggs (came with a perfectly-cooked NY strip with 2 eggs (any style; I requested mine to be over medium), a side of home fries (or grits, if you wish), and a biscuit (or toast or an English muffin, if you wish); the steak was super juicy and seasoned well, and while I usually like my breakfast potatoes to be smaller and crispier, Marie's version is steamed and then grilled, but good with the ketchup and the hot sauce); Country Fried Steak and Eggs (I wasn't a fan of the country fried steak, as the steak cut was way too thick; the batter was just 'okay,' but it did have an off flavor to it); a cup of Sausage Gravy (this was thick and creamy and had ample amount of sausage bits folded in); a cup of Chipped Beef (I wasn't a fan of this, as it tasted a bit bland to me; the hubs was a fan); a pancake (super large in size, this was fluffy and yummy); and, a side of Corned Beef Hash. We were waiting for one person in or party, the table was ready for us to be seated, and we were told we had to wait outside in the hot sun with my son that has a disability. They are not accommodating at all. If we didn't drive 45 mins for breakfast I would've left. We reserved for a party of 6 and 5 were here. They wouldn't even let my son and his grandmother with a disability stand inside, while they clean off another table for us to sit.
