My wife and would go there when it was the golden horse and loved there chicken gyro. Although a different name they still have the same charm . The chicken gyro sauce could use less sour cream but still really good . Pancakes are awesome !! The eggs Benedict are ok . But over all it has nice food with a good service . read more

My only complaint is that it is so far from where I currently live. I've been eating here for about nine years I've yet to get a bad meal, coffee is always fresh and hot. The meals are always hot and made to order and there is always something different on the special board. The place is very clean including the restrooms. I always make a point to grab a meal when in the area. Service I great at least two of the servers have been there for Nine years , and seems that either the owner or her husband Bill are commonly there making sure all is running smooth or hands on cooking and helping. read more

Absolutely terrible. Tiny, cramped room with ridiculous noise polution. The food was the worst. Not only did it arrive cold, had one bite....it was horrible and then found a fly in it. The waitresses had the worst unfriendly faces, far from ingratiating, we noticed they were that way with everyone. Did not come by to see if we placed our order, or if we wanted water during our meal. We went twice before, this was a third strike. When your kids are saying let's leave. ..you know it's bad. I ordered the Reuben for lunch and it had too much meat, thousand island dressing in a packet on the side, soggy bread, and tasteless meat. The coleslaw on the side tasted fine but was a little small. The decor was cluttered on the walls and there were lots of pictures of Marilyn Monroe, which was a little awkward when trying to eat your food. The service was good but I will not be going back, even though I live in Chester. If you want something like this I advise you to go to the Chester Diner, Publick House, or Mini-Mac, which all have better food in the same area. read more

We've been looking for that niche breakfast place to frequent, that is a little eclectic, good food, friendly service and we have found it in Marilyn's! We've been to almost every store surrounding Marilyn's but somehow missed this gem. Jumbo cup 'O Joe is a great start! Walls filled with pictures of Marilyn and fun sayings, very clean, no sticky coatings on the salt, pepper, sugar shakers or ketchup bottle. Bill (an owner) made a point several times to ensure we were taken care of and enjoyed our meal; even sitting with us for a few minutes when he learned we were first timers. We loved the boisterous atmosphere this Sunday morning with many tables laughing and enjoying their breakfast and company. We will be back for sure! read more

I don't know how I managed to live in the area so long without discovering Marilyn's. Some friends introduced me to it earlier this fall, and I had delicious pancakes with fresh berries. Today, I had "Marilyn's Favorite" or "Marilyn's Special" omelette - with spinach, bacon, and provolone - for breakfast. My husband had two eggs, sunnyside-up, with bacon. The ingredients are fresh, the home fries were done to perfection, and the quantities were generous enough that we made it through a long day's drive to Virginia (including a visit to Luray Caverns) without lunch. It's the best breakfast around, and the ambience is charming. I like the Chester Diner, but Marilyn's is special. I can't say the coffee's great, but it's not bad. I happen to prefer mine much stronger than they make it. The four-star rating is probably excessive, in terms of the food itself, but this will be my first recommendation to anyone looking for a breakfast spot. They are open 365 days a year. read more

Always a good bet for breakfast and some of the best waitresses in the business! We always feel welcome and enjoy the food and atmosphere of Marilyn's. We make it there for breakfast about 3-4 times a month, and the occasional lunch, but breakfast at Marilyn's is our favorite. I live in South Texas but return to NJ every Summer to visit family and friends. I plan my trips so I'll have several chances to eat breakfast at Marilyn's...Fast service, Friendly staff (and patrons) and the best home fries anywhere. They really pile them on. You can't beat their eggs benedict, scrapple and eggs (How many places serve that?), corned beef hash and eggs and really big cups of great coffee. Everything served, all day, is generous, tasty and cooked perfectly. The place is hidden away in a small strip mall on the south side of route 24...easy to miss, but the locals have been faithful for years. It's always full of people but you rarely have to wait....well worth a trip from where ever you are. read more

Okay, so the decor is a bit quirky, and it can be noisy with the tables and booths so close together, but this is a really, really great place to go for breakfast. The food is always good (and, unlike other reviews, we find the bacon to be cooked to crispy perfection; bacon is always my husband's meat choice at Marilyn's). Great toast and terrific eggs. The pancakes can be hit-or-miss, but never bad - just not always exceptional. Always great service and delicious decaf coffee (which can be hard to find). OK...so two out of towners choose this place over the Bagel & Deli place next door. What a mistake. I got an $11.49 bacon cheese burger, my associate got an $11.49 reuben. About halfway thru I asked "how's your sandwich?" "Horrible" was the reply. "No kidding" I said, "I thought it was just me." The burger was a good size, but wasn't "fresh", the meat was not spoiled, just a few days old. The bacon also sucked. My friend remarked the Sauerkraut wasn't sour, and the meat seemed like pre-sliced "deli pack" stuff you'de get at the grocery store, also with no flavor. Then to top it off, when the check came we put down a credit card. "Oh I'm sorry" the waitress said, "we don't accept credit cards. There's an ATM next door in the Deli" Are you kidding me? It's 2016, who doesn't take plastic? And we looked for a sign that would inform perspective customers that they don't accept credit cards, there is not one. They close at 2pm. The final insult is we were finishing up at about 1:45, when the overpowering smell of bleach overtook the place. I couldn't even finish my fries, the only thing that tasted OK. Way overpriced even if the food was good. I'm not sure how they stay in business. read more
