Really good place to eat. We have driven by so many times to go to the farms but never stopped in. We finally tried and were delighted with the experience. It's a small place, the decor is lovely all Marylin and Harley stuff. Food is really good, we had the breakfast. The only thing is that you need to bring cash, credit cards are not accepted. Maryland's is certainly less than mediocre. The coffee tasted more like water than coffee, and the mug was not clean I ordered the two eggs with scrapple and hash browns. I ordered the eggs scrambled and they came as an overcooked plain omelette. The scrapple was a very low grade and not very good at all. The potatoes were fine. Aesthetically, the place is charming and inviting. The owner greeted us and sat us immediately. The staff was helpful and friendly. That's where it ends. The coffee was weak and resembled tea once milk was added. The iced tea tasted untea-like and required Splenda for flavor. The tuna melt came out smelling very fishy and tasted like it turned on first bite (hope I don't get sick later). The "short stack" pancake was huge and dry. The syrup was think like molasses. The Ruben was open-faced and okay at best. The table behind us sent back their home fries and overheard her saying the potatoes tasted "like they turned" and she "felt bad because (she) never sends food back." Then, the table to my right sent their eggs back stating it didn't taste right. I really hope management reads this and takes some sort of corrective action. It's such a charming place and Chester needs a good breakfast alternative. Oh.... if you do come here despite reading this review, bring cash because they don't accept credit cards. Thankfully, I had cash. I'll never come back based on this experience. read more

We ordered a simple omelette and it took 30 minutes to bring it to the table. Not happy with the service since everyone else was getting their order quicker than us and mind you rest of the orders were quite plateful. Best Breakfast place in Morris county. I moved to NJ from out west and think that breakfast is a lost or forgotten art here. That was till I visited marilyn's. Cozy location. Service was good. The food.....just OK. Had blueberry pancakes. They were enormous (barely fit on the plate), but they were virtually tasteless. Would've rather had pancakes half the size that tasted good. Also the coffee was not good (it's a pet peeve if a breakfast place can't get the coffee right) and I had to ask for Stevia instead of the vat of sugar they had on the table. Overall, it's a two star review. Might try it again for lunch and see if I have better results. read more

Marilyn's cafe is our favorite breakfast place. The service is always excellent, attentive, and friendly. I never have to ask for more coffee, they just come frequently to all the tables refilling with a smile and checking if all is right. But we could hear other servers grumbling about customers and their tips. The food was mediocre. I feel compelled to write a review, since we chose this place because of the great reviews. The coffee tasted "off" to me. I have never, ever seen my 3 yr old not devour a plate of pancakes. He took about two bites and declared he was done. My husband got the hungry man, and he said the pancakes were gross and bitter. I ordered an omelette, which I thought was really good. Unassuming diner with hearty breakfast classics and a few specialties too. We came on a Saturday mid-morning and were able to be seated quickly, but boy was it packed! I could definitely imagine having to wait, but only for a little bit, as the turnover was pretty speedy. Prices are reasonable for the massive amounts of food you get. I recommend the potato pancake special w/ sausage and applesauce! It's a bit on the busy and loud side, but it's full of character, both from the staff and the decor. Extremely disappointed with this diner. came back after a few years because we originally loved it. Our order took forever, customers after Us were served first. Then our food came. My dads omelet was stone cold. We told the waitress and all they did was put it in the microwave....I mean it's not hard to remake a quick batch of eggs. Then after that I was eating French toast. I moved a piece to start another slice. Nestled in my toast was a glorious hair. I told the waitress and she took it away after I told her I didn't want any new food. I actually thought the food was better at the Mini Mac Diner. It is run by a friendly husband and wife team that tries to please. When the waitress bought out the wrong plate for my son they immediately rectified the issue no questions asked. That is to be commended. Again, I was not impressed with food. In general I do not like Sunnies cooked with crispy curled edges. I think it is acceptable on a breakfast sandwich where it can offer a textural component, but I expect them treated differently when served straight up. Pancakes were average and the Scrapple was too greasy. I may give the place another shot down the road, but for now I am giving it 2 stars. read more
