They offer Detroit thick crust and New York thin crust pizza with a gluten free option if the thin crust. The NY crust is my fave... thin, chewy crisp crust. Mmm. This time, we dined at the restaurant. It is in the heart of downtown San Rafael on 4th Street . The shop front is not very large. We got there early and they were able to accommodate the eight of us. The fam ordered garden salads and three pizzas with one being gluten free with vegan cheese (Daiya brand). The gluten free fam bammers liked the crust. It looked just like the non gluten crust and had the same beautiful flame fired blistered crust. Mmm it was delicious as well. Our food was served quickly after ordering. Besides pizza, the menu includes appetizers, salads ( in various sizes), sandwiches, pastas, desserts, kid menu, and alcohol (wines, beers, and hard seltzers). Heads up on the parking situation. There is metered street parking ($1.50 per hour and free on Sundays & after 6pm) and is mostly parallel. If parallel parking is not your jam, the downtown city lot is around the corner on C Street ($1 per hour and free on the weekends). FYI - they accept: cash payments with bills no larger than a $20, credit cards, Apple Pay, and Goggle Pay.

We did half Hawaiian and half pepperoni with jalapeños. Customer Service 5/5 The staff was always friendly to us, which we truly appreciated, especially when visiting small towns when we are not from the area. We felt so welcomed. Ambience 5/5 The ambience was lovely, we especially loved the large windows with great views, and the booths were very comfortable. They also have a bar ! Cleanliness 5/5 We noticed the staff thoroughly cleaning the tables, very clean! Wait Time 5/5 Fair wait time ! Cost 4/5 It was a bit on the pricier side for a pizza shop, maybe because we ordered half and half on one pizza. For the size and portion, one pizza felt a little more costly, but the quality and taste were definitely worth it overall! Drinks 5/5 We loved their selection of beer and really enjoyed our drinks!

The tomato and basil pizza was burnt so badly that it was inedible. It was beyond horrible. Yet, it was boxed and sealed and we were charged for it. The meat one was charred on one side and raw on the other. It wasn't edible. The wedge salad was whole and mostly iceberg lettuce with some tomato and one tub of ranch dressing. The house salad had onions, which we specifically asked be omitted when we ordered. The dressing was supposed to be on the side, but had spilled out. Things they couldn't control but didn't help: cars were parked in the loading area. There was no other parking and we had to park three blocks away and walk there and back. Since there's no way to check the order there, by the time I walked with the food knowing that house guests were waiting, and my husband was very ill, I just drove home. I could have walked back, waited another hour and hoped for less horrible food?

Excellent. This IS pizza…read more Small menu, HUGE flavor! Stumbled onto this spot while surfing GOOGLE Maps and some "teaser" came up and I clicked on it. A few words in and a glance at some pics, I was sold. Here's where my next pizza is coming from. Shot out a quick text to my buddy in SF and eagerly awaited 5:00 PM opening time. I love pizza. It's kind of the perfect food for me. I could eat it every day. I'm somewhat of a pizza stalker, (arrest me) and this is as good as it gets. We shared a MARGHERITA pizza. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil. My buddy had a beautiful large portion HOUSE CAESAR. Little gems, anchovy, lemon, breadcrumbs, parmigiano, reggiano. A delicious craft cocktail for me: NONNO'S CARDIGAN- bourbon, meletti, black walnut, orange zest. The rotating hazy beer for my buddy.... Dig it baby, the only thing missing was a live jazz trio. I was so pleased that I returned a couple hours later with my wife and we had a delicious mushroom pizza.. Great "speakeasy vibe" with expert, classy interior design/decorating work. Truly a jewel in downtown San Rafael which definitely needs something to sparkle. And, it is located above top-notch restaurant, Vin Antico on fourth Street. Now you have two reasons to visit downtown. If a picture is worth 1000 words, here is a mouthful. Food for thought, have a peek. "He that keeps not crust nor crum Weary of all, shall want some." (I stole that from "Willy the Shake", you know-neither a borrower nor a lender be.)

Stefano's is clearly a local favorite, given you often see their boxes at school events, camp…read morelunches, and neighborhood gatherings all the time. So I wanted to like it more than I actually do. Here's my main issue: the sauce situation. There's barely any on the pizza by default, and if you want what I'd consider a normal amount of sauce, they charge extra for it. That feels a bit like charging extra for a burger to actually have seasoning. The cheese is fine, the crust is fine, the toppings are fine. Everything is solidly in "okay" territory. Nothing offensive, but nothing that makes me think "I need to order from here" either. Skip the wings. They taste like they've been reheated from frozen, often arrive soggy, and have this thick breading that slides right off. Worse, they're frequently overcooked to the point where the bones actually splinter inside the meat, which is both unappetizing and kind of concerning. Just not worth ordering. The staff is genuinely friendly, which counts for something. There's a private parking lot, so no circling the block looking for a spot. And the coupons they mail out regularly do bring the price down to a reasonable level compared to other chain pizza places in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to order from Stefano's, but I seem to be in the minority here. Plenty of people clearly love it. There's a reason it's become the default pizza for so many local schools and camps. Kids especially seem to be fans, and if you're feeding a crowd on a budget with their coupons, it gets the job done. It's a perfectly serviceable neighborhood pizza place that works well for many people, just not my first choice. If you're curious, maybe start with just a pizza (extra sauce, trust me) and form your own opinion.
