Wow. This is my first review. Ever! This was my first time to order from any Stefano's Pizza. So, My pizza had literally ZERO SAUCE on it! I called the restaurant to ask them if this was normal and the manager said it was not. However in reading these reviews I see that it is! Also, the manager had the worst phone manners. In what way were the manners so bad? Oh, let me tell you! They didn't even say the business name when they answered the phone , when I said "hi, I'd like to ask a general question", there was total silence..... I said, "is someone there?" I finally got a yes . When I asked him whether it was normal to have very little sauce on the pizza he said no that was not normal . I told him okay thank you for informing me because I have never had their Pizza before......total silence again. So I said okay thank you for answering my question have a good day and guess what? He just hung up. Stellar! So I called back to speak to a manager because the rude phone manners just ticked me off. Insult to injury. This SAME person proceeded to tell me HE WAS the manager. Mind you, there was no sorry you didn't like the pizza Etc I wasn't looking for anything other than a general inquiry but not very great manager skills! There's really a wide range of reviews on here for Stefano's which may make the decision making process confusing. From my experience here today, it's all about setting expectations! This is NOT one of those more upscale places with overpriced pizzas that are so common in Marin. It's a local spot for basic pizza, no frills, the kind of place that you go to when you just want an affordable New York pizzeria inspired slice of pizza. Think pizza party style. Nothing fancy or extra going on with the crust or ingredients. Just a vehicle for delivering sauce, melty cheese, and base carbohydrate induced satisfaction. Given that context, it's a nice little joint, and hits a specific type of nostalgic craving. I also personally think it's the kind of place where, for best results, you probably want to stick to a basic cheese or pepperoni? We picked up a cheese pizza today and they made it for us fresh. It was piping hot when we received it and we ate it with joy and lots of red pepper flakes. Guys behind the counter were super friendly as well. Didn't order a salad or wings or anything else, so can't really speak to the extras. Btw. There is a "by the slice" deal - it's TWO slices and a soft drink for $8. It doesn't seem to be advertised anywhere in the store so that was a little confusing. It seems based on past reviews the deal used to be $5 a few years ago. 2021 baby, inflation is everywhere. My first delivery order since moving to my new apartment in San Rafael! I actually thought it was pretty good...at least slightly more "gourmet" level than most i've had back in southern California. I think the only minor gripes I have are the price and lack of smaller-sized pizzas. I ordered their margherita pizza. Ordered delivery and the process was so easy! Better yet, pizza came fast- in 30 minutes! When it got here the delivery person made sure that it was handed off and when I got it and opened the pizza box... pure deliciousness! I got an x-large pepperoni pizza and it contained 10 slices of pizza goodness! I loved that the crust wasn't oily or salty and the pizza didn't have any pockets of oil, like you may sometimes see on pizza. This place is really good. Interestingly, I ordered with a two hour wait for pick up. This got me thinking this place must be good. I ordered a calzone with a caesar salad. If you enjoy bread, you may really find the calzone absolutely delicious. It did taste homemade and the sauce was tasty as well. I ordered my calzone with meatballs, sundried tomatoes and olives with ricotta cheese. The caesar salad was ok and the dressing was rich but not too heavy; somewhat evenly balanced. So, when you mouse over 3-stars on Yelp it says A-OK and I think that about describes Stefano's pizza. Maybe it's the 4 years I spent in NYC in pizza heaven, or even in San Francisco for 6 years, and lots of tasty pizza options in general in the Bay Area (hidden gem btw for pizza is Berkeley) but this pizza is just okay. I hit them up here and there for the pizza slices, which is a great deal. I stick with pepperoni or pep and sausage usually. Btw, overly greasy pizza I agree is gross, but a little grease ain't bad. That's what happens with friggin pepperoni, it's cured beef or pork or combo of both people! The sauce is pretty solid, good ratio of cheese, but nothing really stands out. The crust is okay, sometimes it just feels a little dry and flavorless, other times it's nice chewy and crisp at the same time, good bubbling on the outer edges, but again it just doesn't blow me away. We've ordered pick up a couple times. At the end of the day though, it's a nice space, it's family friendly, it's a great value, the staff is nice and it's family run. I really hope people don't take 3 stars as bad, it's not, it's just A-OK. And if you're hankering for a NY type slice of thin crust pizza, it's worth a stop in. read more

I've been eating at Stefano's for like 15 years I've always loved the dough and I like the pizza it's a good price however I have to say it's been like a topic of conversation 1 billion times and I've never brought it to their attention. I don't know why I guess I just assumed it's what they do. But there's no sauce on the pizza it's like thin bread which I love and cheese, the cheese, kind of like plastic cheese, which I don't really care but the sauce where is the sauce! That's like the best part. It's like they take a paintbrush and maybe put some water down sauce on it that you can kind of see but sometimes you look at it and all you see is cheese and bread fascinating again I am not complaining cause I like the flavor. I just don't know why they don't add more sauce. It's just weird. I do extra sauce now but you shouldn't even do that because extra sauce is just normal sauce. Stunning to open a packet of coupons and see the one for this eatery with the announcement that Stefano's Solar Powered Pizza was voted best Pizza in Marin by the Novato Patch. I cannot think of any worse pizza we have ever eaten in Marin. Other than the fact that it was overpriced and tasteless, the people working there obviously didn't care that they had customers walking in to order pizza. They were more interested in chewing their gum and gossiping with one another. Terrible service, even worse pizza. This place is a far cry from a good pizza place, our family has tried a few of their pizzas and the crust is usually soggy, or tasteless, salads awful, and the employees are totally uncaring. or maybe it was the manager, not sure. My family has gone in 2 times now, and once, we asked if there was a mistake in our order, since it seemed like they forgot half the toppings, - they just glared at us and said, that's how it is.... The sidewalk is dirty, at least on the Sir Francis Drake side, where we parked. Cigarette butts all around their area....looks like no one takes pride in the company. Ugh I hate when you can sense failure the minute you start interacting with the employees but you stick around and decide to experience it anyway. I would maybe suffer through the attitude if the food was worth it but it was not even close to anything good. Salad had a half inch of water at the bottom of the bowl and pizza was maybe lukewarm. I'm guessing it was that way because the employees decided their phones and loudly talking about their social life was more important.
