Red Boy is an unreal pizza spot, an absolute stable. The sourdough crust is the best I have ever had, crispy on the outside, perfectly chewy inside. You can taste the difference in sourdough immediately. I ordered the classic combo and a custom pie, both were LOADED with fresh ingredients and cooked perfect. Service is awesome, Jack helped me, and what an awesome guy, a dude I left the restaurant wishing I was friends with. The place has that old school neighborhood pizza feel. I am a huge fan of sourdough pizza. Red boy has had its ups and downs with different locations coming and going, but this location does a great job. The dining room isn't any place that I'd like to sit down and eat at, but I get this as Takeaway or delivery quite often. I usually get a red boy special well done with jalapeños. The family and I were hanging out downtown San Raphael and was ready for pizza but with so many great options available in the area how could one even choose? While checking out my options what instantly caught my eye was that this place makes their pizza with a "sourdough crust" (as a lover of sourdough it was a no brainer for me!) We decided to go with our usual half pepperoni, half cheese pie. The pizza smelled so good that we decided to have a few slices in the car before we headed home (which was about an hour drive) and both I and the kids loved it! The pizza was very cheesy, the sauce was well balanced and the sourdough crust was chewy yet light. The lady that took my order was friendly and patient. For my extra large pizza the wait was only about 25 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering they were pretty busy with both phone and walk in orders. The dining area was a pretty decent size and it had the styling of an old school Italian restaurant (they even had checkered tablecloths.) Ok. We're done. They have consistently messed up our order. We get the same pizzas every week. Pepperoni with mushroom and pepperoni with jalapeños. So last week they left off the jalapeños and put it on after cooking so it was raw. This week they left the pepperoni off the pepperoni and mushroom pizza. This is a review of dinner delivery from Red Boy Pizza. It is easy to order via Grubhub.com. They do not have a delivery fee. There delivery minimum is $18. I placed my order at 6:28 PM. I was provided with an estimated delivery time of 7:20 PM to 7:30 PM. My pizza was delivered at 7:41 PM. That is a delivery time of 1 hour and 13 minutes. I have always considered pizza delivery times over an hour to be excessive. The delivery person was very friendly. The food was neatly packed. They included numerous packets of red pepper and Parmesan. There was also a nice container of dressing for the wings. There were napkins and paper plates included. The food was good. Once delivered, the food was still warm but not hot. Pizza Roma - Medium/12 in (Cheese, tomato sauce, Italian sausage, mushrooms) This was a pretty good pizza. I don't have high expectations for pizza delivery but my last 3 experiences with this Red Boy location have been absolutely pathetic. Delivery has taken almost DOUBLE the time quoted, product has arrived cold and the staff literally seemed like the whole thing was a joke. When I called to check the status of my order after waiting an hour and twenty minutes, I was actually laughed at and told it was just getting to the oven. I have tolerated this establishment for many years but now- I am done. Epic fail. Redboy used to be a favorite, for over 10 years, but today we ordered at 4:45, we didn't receive our food for over 2hrs and 20mins. It arrived cold, undercooked, to the point the crust didn't even rise and it was super soft on the bottom. There was so much cheese that the crust was completely covered on one side, so much so that was stuck to the box. I called and the young man and woman I spoke to on the phone were pleasant and understanding. They said another would be sent over immediately. An hour and a half later- a second cold underdone pizza shows up. I call and the young lady was apologetic, and said she was an emergency driver, but other driver wasn't allowed to let her deliver orders. What the F?! Normally I would think that was a weird thing to say- but given how sincere both of them were it seems like there's an issue with another employees screwing up. They have been inconsistent the last few times. One of the drivers had had unkempt dirty clothes, with over an inch long dirty yellow fingernails. We felt bad for him, but switched to Doordash because, come on, you can't work in food service like that. While using Doordash- their delivery driver showed up with our food. Odd right? We were so surprised- but it then made sense why our driver wasn't responding to our messages. It's really a huge shame. It used to be a solid place. When I called Red Boy Pizza, I told an enthused cashier our address and looked forward to my coworkers and I rejoicing around our extra large pizza. However, THREE HOURS LATER, we remain...hungry, our blood sugar low, increasing symptoms of depression as our hope dwindles. We have spoken on the phone with Red Boy Pizza at least 6 times since first ordering our pizza, apparently all for naught. We have provided in excruciating detail our location, however the person delivering our pizza appears to have the sense of a direction equal to that of a pillbug. Even with his smartphone, he has not been able to locate our fairly simple address. I can only assume he has run off with our pizza to some unknown, remote destination where he flicks another slice of pepperoni out the window with every call he avoids answering. Even the pizza shop no longer knew where the driver had gone. It sounds a little dramatic; but we have been deceived unjustly. Hopefully this scathing review will save you from enduring this seemingly never-ending wait for what is probably extremely mediocre pizza. read more

Some of these reviews may be confusing. This particular Red Boy Pizza is on the Miracle Mile and offers takeout and delivery only. There are no pitchers of beer here and no place to sit, unless you consider the parking lot "a place to sit." Pizza is a highly emotional subject to many people, and I've found that people either love or hate Red Boy. The original Red Boy Pizza, which opened in downtown San Rafael during the 1970s, initially offered an Italian restaurant experience with "gourmet" pizza in stark contrast to the Round Table/Straw Hat/Shakey's options at the time. Red Boy subsequently franchised itself locally. Each Red Boy is individually owned and operated, but the ingredients are consistent. Having lived close to the Miracle Mile Red Boy, I ordered their delivery quite frequently. I laughed when a reviewer said that their pizza tasted "sour." Red Boy's trademark is its sourdough crust, which is usually quite excellent. It's quite "bready," however, and will appeal most to carb junkies such as myself. I'm less of a fan of the sauce, which is a little tart for my liking. I do enjoy the cheese and toppings, however. They've always been generous with the toppings. The downside to such generosity is the price. Red Boy is in the upper echelon, pricewise. However, it's not more expensive than the highly inferior Round Table pizza in Red Hill Shopping Center. Delivery is relatively efficient. It's not 30-minutes-or-less Dominos, but it's not unreasonable given that they hand-throw their dough and make their pizzas from scratch. The salads are forgettable. I wouldn't bother. Slices, which can be purchased on-site, are a very good deal. They're so large that the chefs cut them in half. You really get two slices for the price of one. As has been mentioned in other threads, the "original" Red Boy Pizza on 4th Street has closed and is now called "Big Dog Pizza." Rumor has it that they lost their liquor license by serving minors. There are some indications that ownership is essentially the same, but I cannot confirm that. read more
