I hesitated writing this review because I don't want to hurt anyone's business. But ultimately I wish I had read a review like mine before going to Marina Nails Spa. I went to a Marina Nail Spa a few months back for the first and only time. The people were extremely nice and the shop was exercising great Covid protocols. When I selected this nail salon I did my Yelp research which made me feel comfortable and I let my guard down. All I had on my nails was polish from my previous manicure. But for some reason they used an electric nail filer on my natural nails which has damaged my nails. My nails are now weak and brutal and are constantly breaking. It's gonna be 4 months before my nails grow out. Be aware if you go to the salon and speak up if you think that their techniques might damage your nails. I wish I would've. read more

I am updating my review in regards to managements response. That it was quote "my fault" that my nail broke but I can come in to get it fixed and that they have no recollection of me paying. I tried it a second time thinking maybe that was just a one time thing but it only lasted a couple days again. Upsell City! First time here and I don't like the sneaky, constant upselling or the super thick, see-through SLS nail polish. Cuticle cleaning is $10 more, which makes no sense to me because every manicure I've gotten has cuticle cleaning as part of the manicure cost. But no one tells you it costs more, they just ask "cuticle?" And of course yes, that's a standard part of a manicure. Every time they ask you a question it's actually an upsell, but they don't tell you that it's an additional cost. My pedicurist was incessant, she must have asked me 10 different upsells but never mentioned that the cost is additional. (Like scrubbing your foot, you have to be VERY clear that you want the standard pedicure everytime they ask a question.) My friend getting nails done with me ended up paying a ton of money for a very simple pedicure. In terms of the SLS polish, I wouldn't recommend. It's way thicker than gel so it feels weird and heavy on my fingers, there's a bunch of powder left under my nails, and it's way more see-through than you think. I picked a light pink color for my wedding, but it was so see through it barely looked like I had anything on, and you could see the whites of my nails. I didn't know the process (I told her this was my first time getting SLS) so when she first put the polish powder on I told her I was nervous that I could see the white of my nail and I didn't want that, I wanted a solid color. She laughed a little condescendingly and told me she wasn't done yet. Okay, fine by me. But by the time she was done it didn't look good. You could absolutely see my whole nail under this pink glaze and it looked weird. She told me that I picked the color but I told her through the whole process is didn't like that it was see through and she kept going saying it's be fine. She tried to do some social pressure/manipulation because she wanted to move on to the next person, but the lady was nice enough, you could tell she really didn't want to fix it but she said okay. The rest of the people at the location will really nice as well and it seems to be clean and inviting looking. I just don't get what all of the hype is about with this SLS polish because it's so thick and feels very weird. The technician left a ton of powder under my nails. I have got to give it to her, she could have been more pissy and not redone my nails, but she did fix it and she didn't put up a fuss so I do appreciate that. I regret choosing SLS, I should have stuck with gels. We will see, maybe I'll get used to it and they'll live up to the hype. read more

I really like this nail salon in comparison to the others I have been to over the past few years for a number of reasons. To set the stage a bit, I got SNS done for the first time here in March and I have been returning every month for a refresh since. 1. The location has free parking in the back and I haven't had an issue with finding a spot yet. 2. It's super easy to book appointments via phone call or text. Saeid really make the experience easy! I so appreciate that. 3. The salon (and tools) from what I can tell is/are clean. 4. The ambience of the salon is very nice. It's always a nice cool temperature, the decorations are tasteful and I enjoy the music that is played. Most importantly, Summer is fantastic! I request her every time I go. I read from the reviews that Mary is awesome as well and she is always booked and I don't have a reason to try her. If you haven't tried SNS, do it. It lasts me up to 4 weeks and doesn't break and peel like gel. If you jam your nail into something, ok, the SNS nail is going to crack and probably break, but it's not painful nor difficult to deal with. Money very well spent! read more

Went in for a gel manicure and was convinced to try dip because it lasts longer and is good for your nails. Manicure looked great but chipped less than a week later. I tried to call in to get my one nail repaired and they only made 8pm appointments available to me. The man who handles the schedule would not make an exception and told me all his clients should know this. Even thought I let him know I can't make that time work. They wanted to charge me for the repair as well. After hanging up the phone he sent me multiple videos of how dip should last longer. Overall he was very rude and unaccommodating. Tried this place for the first time. They have a service I had not heard of using SNS for polish. I opted to try it instead of the gel polish I had on for $40 opposed to $35 for Gel manicure. I chose a color to match my pedicure polish. The tech first used used the drill to remove most of the polish, which damages and weakens nails. Then she opted to soak my nails in pure acetone. I didnt know what the liquid was at first and soaked my hands. When I started to feel weird, I asked her what it was and she informed me it was acetone. It took off my finger print and I have since learned that your body absorbs this and it is very damaging to lungs. WTH!!! As the tech proceeded to do my nails, applying a clear polish then dipping it in powder, I asked her if the polish dries darker since the powder was clearly a bright red instead of the deep dark red I had chosen. Later when it was clear as day that the color was different, she tried to convince me that the colors looked the same color in the dark. "oh honey, its okay"? It wasnt as I did not want a bright red at all. I wasnt going to argue. I paid and left for good. But not before getting Nickle and dimed as they charge an extra $5 fee for removing polish...gel or sns. This is a first as usually salons build removing polish into the price. I've had my nails done at Marina Nails several times and until my last visit, manis/pedis were always a solid 4 stars - decent nail work, nice nail techs, and peaceful ambience. Every visit though, there was always an upsell of some sort - SNS nails, extra massage, callous remover, etc. So I finally caved in to a SNS 2 visits ago and overall the manicure came out nice and was very durable (though I wish someone would have told me that your nails end up being quite thick and you can't really scratch with your nails). On my last visit, four weeks later, I go to remove them and after soaking in acetone, the receptionist and I looked shocked at my nails - 3 of them had a greenish stain on it. I'm not sure what it was (mold?), but there must have been something wrong because the receptionist asked me A LOT of questions - where did I get it done (um your place), when did I get it done, was I sure I got it done here, etc. Unfortunately this made me more alarmed. To make matters worse, the lady who did the rest of my manicure looked a bit concerned about it too and tried to file the mold stain away. Now my nails are super thin and sensitive to pressure because of the vigorous filing. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'd go back - definitely NOT for the SNS nails that's for sure. read more

My first nail tech was awful (she was nice, but work was not. My gel nails are lumpy and the edges were not neat. She tried to do the small hearts about 5 times before I complained and the owner brought another nail tech over to finish me. She also could not get them right. The black heart was bleeding into the pink. I was there for over an hour and a half and wanted to leave as I was getting very upset and anxious. I told the owner I was not happy with my nails and he said " they are perfect" " she's the best nail tech for design" he said it would cost $55 and only took off $2. This place is a huge scam. Very unprofessional and rude. The owner has very poor customer service skills. Let me warn you, they're not transparent people. They charged me 100 dollars for a dip powder and simplest design without telling me beforehands. This is very common that nail technician will let you know if there's gonna be any extra charges. Guess what? They never mentioned it. Not the greedy owner nor the technician. Cause all they care about is making more money and fooling people. The owner doesn't give a damn care about customer's satisfaction. The dipping powder is usually around 40-45 dollars and everywhere else charges 15-20 bucks extra for design/ombre. I paid 125 for dipping and reg pedi without tip. This is twice of what I usually pay in other luxury nail salons in Marina del rey. The charged me 55 bucks extra for a common design. Unbelievable! The technician didn't even do an amazing job! It has flaws, not the perfect one. When I complained about the stravagante extra charge, they treated me super impolitely and unfair. They said, you never asked how much the design costs! Unbelievable... they ignored that it's the nail salon's responsibility to inform the customer when there's an extra charge. Especially when it's more than twice the actual service! It's not my first in a nail salon and doing a design in my nails. They treated me like a fool. It was my first time there, and will be the last time for sure. Do yourself a favor and don't go there. Don't waste your time and money there. They don't appreciate you as a customer and they even humiliate you. Do not recommend it. We are living in US not in Iran. There's not such a thing as taking advantage of customers. The only place I go. I have been going to Marina nails for about 4 years now. My hands are often in photo and video shoots so having a good nail tech is key! I had to go to a different salon a few times after moving recently and my experiences were enough to send me running back to Summer's chair @ Marina. My nails are somehow stronger since coming back. The previous place had thinned them out and the manicure itself never lasted more than a week. Summer makes sure my nails are perfectly shaped and helps me choose the best shades. Mary was my favorite person there and my nails were always great. But The man at the desk always made me feel like I was under a microscope. I have a medical condition that worsened and I arrived less than 5 minutes late ONE TIME (I can't stress that enough) and he berated me about being late even though there have been times they were running late and I never complained about it. That was the beginning of the end. I had brain surgery and when i felt i was healthy enough I started bringing my mom and at first she was treated well, but when she decided she just wanted a manicure with no gel the lady just rushed through it and left her nails badly cut and even made comments about her eyebrows that was the final time I went to them. It's been a couple of years I've been there but Yesterday my mom called because I was getting treatment and I asked her if she can make an appointment for me. Never had an experience bad like this. They completely ruined my nails and over cut the cuticles. I have hard and strong nails but after they polished them, they became soft and fragile. I also walked out with 4-5 layers of nail polish bc instead of repainting, they just added more layers to cover up the previous bad coat. I'm honestly really disappointed at the moment.. I came here and asked the man 4 times how much it was gonna be only to be told to sit in the chair. The lady gave me a menu to look at and I chose the $35 acrylic nail & regular pedicure bundle. The lady was trying to convince me to get a more expensive bundle but I kept to the $35 dollar one and asked her twice if it was gonna be $35 to which she said yes. Then when the lady was almost done with my acrylics she told me they were gonna be $70 & I asked her "why? She brought the manager ( Mary ) over & the manager tried to tell me they're $70 because the length to which I told her, "I didn't know it was going to be more for the length which is why I asked you guys many times before I agreed to it." To which she responded "wellll you should have known better when you wanted acrylics" with a NASTY attitude then rolled her eyes. Me, obviously annoyed, said "I didn't know which is why I asked you guys! You guys work here, I don't. Also I asked MULTIPLE times if it'd be $35" to which she rolled her eyes and walked away. Keep in mind, my nails aren't even fricken done!! She told me if I get a regular color that she'll charge me a whooooole five dollars less. I wanted white in the first place so apparently that's not a regular color ??? So not only did I get way over charged, & an unfinished job, but I got a horrible attitude that left a bad taste in my mouth. This is some BS. A friend bought me a gift certificate from them for my birthday. By law, gift certificates cannot expire. They refused to honor the gift certificate because it was over a year old. That's illegal! So they stole $45 from me. If the owner had honored the gift certificate, as he is legally compelled to do, I may have been repeat customer. He could not see the forest through the trees!
