Marino's dropped from a personal highly regarded restaurant down to about a 2. I was going to place 2 orders but was told they don't accept Discover card. They always accepted Discover on previous visits. I just felt very frustrated that I drove :30 minutes out of my way to get there and got nothing. I have been coming to Marino's since I was an Ohio State student at the turn of the millenium. I use to think of my visits as a secret liason as many of my peers didn't appreciate it like I did, but as time has passed I feel like I am visiting an old friend. It seems as if nothing has changed since the first day I walked in, they do a great job of keeping their dining room and restrooms clean. Don't knock the place for being dated as long as they keep focusing on their customers and turning out fresh and tasty food. While I have rarely had what I would consider slow service unless they were swamped, I have always found friendly people behind the counter and it seems like they are always working hard. Nothing beats fresh fish caught, cleaned, and eaten the dame day at the lake, but I have always enjoyed everything I have gotten at Marino's whether it was for dine in or take out. They really have great fish and chips and they fry to order so you are never going to get something that has been sitting around under a warmer like their national fast food competitors. My only wish is that they someday add baked beans to their menu. I don't hesitate to recommend Marino's to my friends and family even if they don't always listen. This place is good for all ages, groups, and families; there is something for everyone here. read more

Gotta love Marino's. It's a total throwback to the days of the iconic Arthur Treacher's restaurants that were ubiquitous in Ohio in the 70s. So yes, it's fast food folks, it's not an upscale seafood joint with fresh fish flown in daily lol. Every now and then something may have spent an extra 15 seconds in the fryer and may not be exactly like it was last time. But in my limited experience there it's been damn good for the price. In all honesty it's probably a four star joint but I felt the need to balance out the haters and their one star, misguided screeds. read more

Was so excited to try this place since they were making the Arthur Treacher's style fish and chips which was a favorite of mine years and years ago. They are located in an old Arthur Treacher's location so it brought back so many memories. The staff was really nice. I ordered the 2 fish with chips with side of cole slaw and hushpuppies. Boyfriend ordered shrimp and chips with a side of chicken and clam strips. At first look, it all looked deep fried too long. The batter was very bland and had the taste of deep fried too long. The chips were ok. The hushpuppies had a very strange flavor and were very dry. Cole slaw was good but wish I had pepper to put in it which I did not see any in the restaurant. Boyfriend said shrimp was good. The clam strips were way overcooked and chewy. The chicken patty is like the ones you buy frozen that have breading on it, then batter dipped, then deep fried too long. I had such high hopes and they were crushed. Solid fast food-style fried fish located in an old Arthur Treacher's shop. The decor is still mostly intact from its previous tenant, and it's a nice little throwback when you're placing your order. The breading is tasty and not overly greasy, but there is a lot of it for the amount of fish buried underneath. We've been spoiled by the house tartar sauces at fancier places now, but the Heinz packets were a noticeable letdown. RC Cola in the fountain was a pleasant surprise. Marino's isn't a must-visit, but if you want hush puppies in a hurry it's worth a shot. read more

We have been coming here for a VERY long time, and have yet to be disappointed... their hush-puppies are among the best I've ever tasted (and I've lived in the south), and their slaw is just right: not too sweet: not too bite-ey... their fish & chips plate is the standard, but I recommend the smelt platter! Nice people..... major ripoff. 1 small piece of fish, 3 small shrimp, 4 small scallops, a lousy small order of lousy fries, and a minuscule side if macaroni salad for $7.80. We found this place almost by accident. My wife wanted fish and chips and we were by campus. Found this place and will be back. The fish ; chips were great but my wife couldn't stop talking about the coke slaw and hush puppies. We will be back when they have crab cakes. This place used to be an Arthur Treachers when that chain was at its dizzying and most dominant heights. If that means something to you, go here knowing the family style service and fried food quality is actually better than the chain you used to go to that was named for a little-known (in the US) Brit. The fish and chips, which come with two oniony hush puppies, are standard fare. Specials often include other seafood staples, but crispy and fried is generally the order of the day. Know that peanut oil is used, so if that is of concern, check to see if they have changed. The people who work here are friendly and great at their jobs. Be polite and they will reward you with deep fried goodness. One suggestion. Try the fried corn nuggets. So odd. So great. Some issues: the place is dated and dark. I like it. It has character and is character building. But this is the type of place some won't go into the dining room because of aesthetics. Their loss. The fish and chips are served on plastic cafeteria style trays and in little cardboard boatlike containers. Even with my years of skill, it is tough to eat with the plastic cutlery. Metal knives and forks for us "eat in" customers would be great. Parking is at a premium, so hope that there is a spot in their smallish lot. If you bring your own bottle of HP Sauce, you will garner suspicious stares. Clandestinely bring your own sauce, if you are one of those people. Hearty fare; decent prices. It ain't the Ritz, but it's solid. Make sure to check Paper Mint and other coupon books. Great deals for this place, like BOGO deals abound. Enjoy the fact that they have RC and 7UP at the fountain. My wife and I went here today for lunch. This place makes Long john Silvers look like a Cameron Mitchell restaurant. I ordered the "Seafood platter". It consisted of One piece of bland over battered fish. Two frozen butterflied shrimp & five fake scallops. I also ordered a small seafood salad. It was a handful of iceberg lettuce and a few shreds of imitation crab, not what I was expecting for $4.50 I guess. What was even more disappointing than the subpar food, was the staff. They really came across as If you being there was an inconvenience. There are too many options in Grandview for me to ever consider going back here again. read more

Marinos Seafood is my go to spot when I am craving perfectly fried cod. I have been going here for well over 15 years and they remain constantly wonderful. The portions are large, the sides are great and the prices are fair. They score a perfect 10 on cleanliness. I strongly recommend Marinos as the place to go for fried fish. read more

Rude staff, overrated cheapskates. The food is decent but it won't blow you out of the water. The fish and chips I would buy are literally just dumped into a fryer and have little to no seasoning on it and thus no flavor. The restaurant is really full of itself and it shows with some of the behavior of its staff. Newspaper clippings are all over the wall with reviews from people who had fish and chips the first time in their life. They're so cheap they have signs that say things like "if it costs us money, it costs you money! Extra charges for extra forks and straws!" What a homey place. And they act like you're a lowlife if you ask for a drink refill. When I asked this guy for a refill on one visit he said he was "a little busy pal". Busy standing at a kitchen window waiting for an order to come up. The guy was sweating like a pig just standing there because he was so heavy haha. If they're too cheap and it's too much of a burden for them to take 5 seconds to dispense 0.015 dollars into a cup to make me happy I'll go somewhere else. read more

As a background, I have been a customer of Marinos's since they changed owners. I have always enjoyed their food. Today I had ordered $27.00 worth of food came home and realized my two drinks were not attached. I went back to the store, thinking, no big deal I will get my 2 drinks and I ordered another $14.00 worth of food. You would have thought I was trying to rip them off for 2 free drinks. Very rude, snide looks, and raising of voices over 2 freaking sodas that probably cost them .17cents. Very disappointed by a long time customer. read more

I walked in and was greeted right away. I must have been staring at the menu for a long time when the girl behind the counter asked if this was my first time here. I responded yes and she promptly gave me a hot tasty entire piece of fish to try. I was sold! I ended up getting a fish boat (family deal) to go. The fish was good (for fast food...definitely better than long John silvers but along the same lines as there), the fries were big and fluffy...perfect for malt vinegar and the order came with high puppies which I personally have never liked.any and these were the same as any other I've had. The service was fantastic and super friendly and helpful. The food came out super fast. And the place seemed clean and well kept..nothing fancy. It's one of those aces you drive by a million times and say I need to stop there and try that...I'm glad I finally did. I'll be stopping again. read more

The food and service were pathetic even for fast food. If you're craving good fish n chips go to The Rusty Bucket or Old Bag of Nails. As a young kid in Columbus, I recall riding past the Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips sign from the back of the family station wagon many times. We never did go inside (my parents were so frugal that going to McDonald's after bringing home a great report card was considered a huge treat), so this myth grew in my head that Arthur Treacher's exemplified the pinnacle of fine seafood dining. After a few disappointing jaunts to Red Lobster, the myth only grew. By the time I was in college and realized it was just another fish and chips joint, the fascination of the mystery was gone. Plus, by then the Treacher's name had hit hard times: the company had been sold a number of times, with complaints by the franchisees that the quality had repeatedly dropped in order to save money, until the number of stores dropped from a peak of nearly 900 to only 14 as of 2015. When the store on 5th Avenue became Marino's, it breathed new life into my curiosity about the place and I finally decided, many years later, to try it once and for all. There was no question about the value: I picked up ten pieces and six hushpuppies for a paltry $17. I asked to have my order ready at 5:00pm, and when I walked in I was greeted by smiling faces, telling me the fish had just come up out of the fryer. I walked out at 5:02pm, order in hand, very pleasantly surprised. Quick sidebar: the store itself was a bit small (as a kid you always imagine things to be bigger than what they are and I pictured the interior to be as big as two football fields at least), and it was clear that the place had not been remodeled in quite some time. There was a certain charm about the old fixtures and the small dining room, however, bringing the feeling of a friendly independent restaurant to the location at last. The ultimate test garnered mixed reviews. I shared my bounty with my brother and father, and the consensus seemed to be that while the batter seemed to be a bit bland and overly crunchy, the cuts of fish were very flaky and tasty. I substituted my chips with hushpuppies, which I unfortunately didn't care for. The texture was perfect but they were entirely too sweet for my liking. My dad and brother loved the puppies, but next time I'm going with the chips. Overall, the quality of the food was solid. Not nearly as flavorful as Brazenhead's fish and chips across the street, but a much better value. Pick your poison. On the whole, I'm delighted that I finally pulled the shroud off a childhood mystery, and wound up finding a competitive player in Columbus' fish and chips market. But I'm also delighted that this historic location found new life with a new name, presumably the name of one of the original owners, as opposed to Arthur Treacher, a man who had nothing to do with fish but rather an actor who played Shirley Temple's butler. Greasy. Crispy. Incredibly delicious. Affordable. Filling. What more can one say? I am a fan. I love both the unpretentious, cafeteria feel inside and the old school block sign out front. This place is full of down home character. I have passed by this place for years before the little light bulb went off in my head that said 'hey! you love fish in chips! go in!'. (Not really, but it went something like that.) The 'chips' weren't incredibly flavorful but the battered fish was so worth it! Stop driving by it and go inside. You won't regret it! read more

I've been eating here for over 30 years and it's always been family run and good. I went recently and there was about 200, undercooked hushpuppies ready to be served and the place smelled like the fry oil hadn't been changed in a long time. After tasting the fish and fries, it had been too long and I was correct. The hushpuppies were not cooked long enough and were doughy inside. The fish was the same and you could tase the gooey batter between the outside and the fish and the fries needed more time. Cute shorter kid taking the orders were polite but not so much the other folks working and sadly, I won't be going back. I've discovered a pup in Upper Arlington (old bag of nails) that has superior fish and chips as well as a diverse menu. I've eaten countless meals at Marinos and the all you can eat got me through law school but any more, having been there three times since the pandemic started, I'm afraid that I'll close the book on that chapter. It's nice to see that other folks still appreciate the place but knowing what was and what is now, me, not so much but I wish them well. read more

Go to the store and buy a chicken patty and put your own batter over top of the breaded chicken patty and deep fry it. I know it is a seafood place so I shouldn't order chicken but I thought I would get one chicken and one fish on my platter. I just thought the chicken should be better. I wasn't impressed with the hushpuppies, macaroni salad, or french fries. The coleslaw was the best part of my meal and I wouldn't be surprised if I could go buy that at a store. The fish didn't really have a taste but the batter was decent. The fries were a little rubbery and had no crunch to them. The hushpuppy was also just bland. The macaroni salad was awful as my wife and I took one bite a piece and tossed it. It had no flavor other than mayo, macaroni, and a hint of mustard. I had tried this place a few years back and thought it was decent but I was grossly disappointed today. The server was very friendly and the joint looks like a cool little fried food haven but the food didn't pass my test. I think I may try Long John Silvers the next time I have an inkling for fried fish, it would also be a little cheaper. I am not a huge fried food fan anymore either and today just reiterated my low opinion of fried cuisine. If the batter has good flavor or the fish/chicken has flavor then I may bite into fried food. This food missed any flavor inside the fried part and the batter lacked anything to set it apart. That BOGO coupon won't draw me back here. read more

After years and years of working down the street from Marino's and all my coworkers insisting I try them, I did. I ordered the Fish platter which consisted of 2 fillets, Fries/chips, 2 hushpuppies, and cole slaw. First thing I did was tried the coleslaw. I was very happy with its taste. It was cold, sweet, and had a perfect combination of crunch and dressing. The hushpuppies had a little sweetness to them as well. Reminded me of the ones we get down in South Carolina when we go to o Myrtle Beach every year. The chips were cooked well and had the little ridges in them. Reminded me of the old fish place that used to operate out of the same building that we all miss. The fish itself was ok. A little on the greasy side. The batter was cruchy and cooked through. The fish was hot and tasty. Again just a touch too greasy. I enjoyed the meal and will return. read more

Marino's Seafood is a great hole in the wall type dining joint! I've never been to a fish n chips place before, so this was a new experience for me. At the time I had visited, the place was not popping as much. I'm sure that's changed, after people's first bite! I had the fish and chips combo, and the fish was flaky and delicious. The fries were ordinary but complimented the fish. I also had my first time trying hush puppies, and I just don't think I'm a fan of them in general. They were good here. Marino's is a decent place to quickly satisfy that urge for Fish & Chips. Sometimes my body just screams for the stuff, and since this is Columbus we really don't have a lot going for us in the fresh "Fish & Chips" department. I make no apologies. I've never traveled off of Marino's "Platter" menu. It's usually one of three things for me, Fish Platter (2 pieces of fish), Fish & Shrimp Platter (1 piece of fish and 3 shrimp) or the Seafood Platter (1 piece of fish, 3 shrimp and 5 fried scallops). Each platter comes with fries, hush puppies, and your choice of macaroni salad or coleslaw. The macaroni salad and coleslaw will always get passed to a friend. Something about those tiny Styrofoam cups speaks of an era long passed. Combine one of the platters mentioned above with a drink and you're looking at about $7-$8 for a filling (and greasy) meal. My main complaint is the quality of the fish. These really seem more like frozen triangles battered elsewhere and shipped in rather than fresh filets hand battered in the store. That obviously doesn't keep me from coming in, just from giving them a higher rating. Also, I'm taking applications for dining companions to join me for one of Marino's All-U-Can-Eat nights. Marino's is definitely solid. I don't know if I'm ready to say I'm a fan yet, but they're solid. I do the chicken because I don't eat seafood. I always feel that the batter is a little heavy on the chicken? but it's aight. The chips are actually really good, which is a relief; so many fish-n-chicken places use the crappiest friggin' fries, which means half of your meal is crap. Marino's has good fries/chips. I also like that the food isn't overly greasy. I just never quite feel . . . totally satisfied after a meal here. I don't know what it is. It's always more "that was perfectly OK" rather than "wow, that hit the spot." Still, if fish and chips is your thing, I think this is probably the best game in town that I know of. read more

I'll tell you a secret about Marino's fish and Chips. I don't like seafood. I really don't I went to Marino's with some work friends because they were raving about the place, but I discovered like the popular fast food cousin " Long John Silvers" Marino's has some really good, chicken. Yes fried chicken from a seafood shop. The key is that the batter that they use on the fish they also use on their chicken, making it amazing. So I come here every now and then to enjoy some amazing in house made hushpuppies, and some fried chicken that is unique, that you won't find at the other places. Who cares if it is bad for you, its good tasting ! Portion's are decent, and the prices good. Whats not to like? Other then the fact that your arteries will be clogged, but that's okay, live a little. read more

This was one of the first restaurants I ate at when I moved here, and I still love it hate that it took this long for me to review it. Anyways the food here is awesome, the workers are awesome. I always order the fish sandwich cheese and tartar, which is great and no doubt the best fish sandwich in town. They are not that expensive and you get a good size fish. I never had a screwed up order, there was one time I ordered a dinner and I didn't like a side and I mention it to them not expecting to exchange anything, and the woman exchanged it for me with no issue. What a nice little spot in the Grandview area. I'm a huge fish and chips fan, so of course, I had to stop in here. I was not disappointed. A great batter, and the fish was done very well. Hush puppies, fries, and macaroni salad rounded out my meal. I thought portions weould be small when I picked up my bag, but when I got home to eat, I saw I was wrong.
