I've gone a few times to that place, I try to get different stuff every time I go. Too see if I might like it this time. Nope the food is just bad. The dark Mexican girl with blond her. God she is so rude, and for goodness sake she is one of the owners how sad. And the place is so unsanitary I'm still amazed how the health department haven't shut it down. Your average taco shop. The first time I came here I shocked to se a small hallway like dining area, well it turns out that there is another larger dining room past the register to the left. This place has the single best Carne asada fries I have ever eaten! No hyperbole, that menu item was glorious. We also had an al pastor wet burrito which s very good, but we have repeatedly come back for the asada fries. Do yourself a favor and get some! read more

This place has unfortunately fallen out. I used to live and frequent Merced a lot and this was the place s to get fast, fresh, good Mexican food. I have gone twice this year and it's just not the same. The asada fries and weak and not thought through. Their asada had really suffered with their downfall. It has not flavor, it's fatty, and dry. I have had an asada burrito at the beginning of the year with the same if not more disappointment as I had recently with the asada fries. read more

Great breakfast burritos. My go to Mexican fix whenever I am in town. The salsa is the best.

They have the best rolled tacos in town. The food is always really good and they give you a lot for your money. Every time my best friend comes home we eat here because she misses it. They have a really good salsa selection also. read more

Today I found cockroach in beans..I have attended this place for over 7 years...bomb food.. But today when I called about insect , lady on phone said for me to take pik and come in when managers avail.. Nothing to try to ease situation.. Not even a sorry.. Shit even my wife's hair ends up in my dinner sometimes..like I said to them shit happens but when u make me wait and prove my case is when I get pissed.. Then when I come down u say to wait more instead of trying to please customer..it was 16 dollars..geez.. So then I decided to tell customers problem while I had to wait... Specially when they kept serving the beans I felt obligated to since I'm standing right there..kids ..elders. ECT all eating roaches ..maybe ? Even cooks tried to give me money in order to calm situation so that wouldn't effect new or returning customer like register lady should of done.. I apologized to customer for disturbance but one thing I know is I will never return and make sure to tell everyone I know or meet that they serve roaches ...maybe if they apologized and just made me feel like they have a shit I prob would of even returned..shit I'm sure other shops may have similar prob..but now I will always make sure to give them the poor reference like the poor service I got.. I am a manager and know that this was handled poorly and I may refer this too health board..sorry Mario's taco shop but ur staff really disrespected me . I'm sure if i return to talk w owner u will recognize me. Very chill honest person and always enjoyed ur shop until this ridiculous event w ur staff happened . if owners have any question please review ur tapes. Mario's Taco Shop serves up mostly above-average Mexican fast food, but I find their carnitas super burrito to be exceptionally tasty. I like their carne asada burrito as well, but the carnitas version is too good to justify wasting money on anything else. The carnitas here is slightly over-cooked -- it's a bit dry, heavily salted, and a fair share of it is wonderfully charred and crispy. With the additions of guacamole and sour cream, both of which Mario's delivers in copious amounts, the dryness and saltiness of the generously-portioned pork is counteracted to near perfection. The burrito may be wet and messy, but the flavors of everything meld so well I could hardly care less. And as runny as this huge burrito is already, I can't help but augment each bite of it with a slathering of Mario's tasty salsa. The texture and taste of this taco shop's otherwise dry and sodium-saturated pork is something I salivate over often, even though it's been at least a year since I last ate one of their carnitas super burritos. Now that I'll be visiting home for the holidays, I know I won't feel fully satisfied with my short, cherished stay in Merced until I stuff my face with another one. read more

Nicole M's review was soooo negative with about 100 "never-evers", I don't think I've ever read a more negative restaurant review for any place in any State on the map. I can't believe that Mario's rates such a nasty dissing, but maybe the cook was drunk or duck-taped in a chair while an escapee from maximum security took over the grill for one night... So, I feel compelled to give my side of the story, which is very, very positive. My husband and I have been coming here for well over 20 years. The condiment kiosk offers better salsa's, carrots and radishes than you'll get anywhere in a 50-mile radius, and it's all free. The variety of salsas alone is enough to make you start drooling. I'm disappointed that they have discontinued their roasted jalapenos and onions. They were so damn delicious and it was very generous of management to include them with the other accompaniments on the cart. But, maybe it was too costly for them to keep providing it. I'd even pay to have it as a side dish, that's how delish they were. So, if anyone from Mario's staff is reading this--head's UP!! We usually get huevos con chorizo or carnitas plate, but sometimes we order carne asada nachos to take home and have with cocktails. There was a previous cook who overcooked the chorizo and somehow always got the nacho chips soggy. But he must have got the sack because in recent months everything is done just right. Over the years the extremely reasonable prices have increased ever-so slightly, which is understandable and forgivable. But the flavor is always there. It's a hole-in-the-wall, that's for sure, but if you have a good sense of humor, check out the "dining room" in the back. Over the years we've seen it redecorated at least a dozen times, each time more laughable than the previous make-over. This new incarnation actually is one of the better ones. I've never seen this place empty. There is always a small line ordering at the register. I wish there would be Italian restaurant equivalents of Mario's, where you could just walk in, go up to the register/kitchen and order traditional Southern Italian grandma's recipes at prices comparable to Mario's. But, those days are long gone, and as Mexican food and eateries get more upscale, as they are in Chicago, they'll be long-gone here, too, and then everyone will be sorry they didn't chow down for cheap while they had the chance. read more

Got the Monday special - two Enchiladas rice and beans on the side. The sauce was bland, the tortillas were uncooked and the rice had no flavor. Also the California burrito - was good but dry, make sure you have some kind of sauce added. And the burrito was huge especially for the price. Victoria's has the same burrito for double the price. Overall the food was ok, if this was my first time going there I'd never go back. But I have been here before and know that the food is usually better. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE, but the cashier this time was rude. Today is a Friday, 12/16/16 and they're suppose to close at 12. So we drove out in the cold to go cause I mean it's my go to place. We got there at 10:56pm we went in and was greeted by "do you guys know what you want to order cause we close in a minute" then a man stepped in saying "oh well they close inside but you can order and get your food outside" and I said okay then I'll order outside then. then the cashier said "no we close at 11 today" and then he said "it's Friday today, it says it closes at 12am" she was smacking away at her gum while giving us a smug look for coming in right before we closed. So I just said never mind it's okay I don't want anything to my boyfriend and we left. That was HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE from the cashier. Idk maybe the owner should have a talk with her and let them know not to chew gum in front of customers. Horrible horrible customer service. read more

the other day my family and I walked in to Mario taco shop my niece wanted a small order of menudo, the young girl who was a cashier at the moment said " they cab sell small amounts," with an ugly attitude, we asked why is that she is young. she totally ignored us and my niece started to cry, I am looking forward to talk to the manager at marios taco shop, she had a really bad customer service, very impolite, much pride of her, and stuck up. will not recommend this place. marios taco shop lost business from us that day we were a total of 11 people there.
