Our starter choices are really varied from Korean BBQ Prawn Lettuce Wrap, Lobster Bisque, and Cesar Salad. However when it comes to the entrees, this 2 options became the winner in our group: Wagyu Cheeseburger 8 oz. Wagyu beef patty, gruyere, caramelized onions, arugula, dijonnaise, brioche. Catch of the day: Chilean seabass with makrut lime leaf salt, stir-fried napa cabbage, carrits, scallions, thai basil, coconut-lemongrass broth. Service was good. Bread at the beginning wasn't my or my dining partner's cup of tea because it was sweet instead of sour or hearty. It was free though. Salmon taco thing is essentially a seared salmon tasting corn tortilla taco with some nice veggies with it. Could do with a little more spiciness or flavor or something. Pico with chips was very basic and not enough volume. It's pricy but if you're stuck at FI and tired of the normal places it's fine. Especially when compared to other restaurants in Fashion Island. They gave popovers to start with a strawberry butter. The strawberry butter was oily which was odd though I appreciate the nice touch instead of a typical bread basket. We got an octopus, tuna tartare, and truffle fries to start. The tuna tartare was on the saltier side. The octopus was good but not meant for a group appetizer since it was one long piece so each person had to cut off their own portion. I got a salmon salad for my entree which was fine. It was literally a green salad topped with some salmon so I wouldn't say it was anything special. I did not like the glaze on the salmon and scraped that off. My colleague got the signature orange souffle but it was just the weirdest dish I've ever seen and had the most bizzare accompaniments that don't go together at all. Again, I usually visit Mariposa once or twice a year. I used to live in the area so it was a little bit more convenient. Today I opted to have lunch and made a reservation on OpenTable, which was easy. I was warmly greeted when I arrived in, escorted to a lovely table closer to the windows. My server approached immediately with water and menus, as well as the complementary broth and Yorkshire pudding with strawberry butter. I took a few minutes to glance over the menu and opted to go with the citrus shrimp salad. This is definitely a great portion for an entrée salad, but can be easily shared and paired with something else on the menu. The shrimp where well seasoned and grilled. All of the ingredients in the salad, including them mixed lettuce, corn, red, onion, etc., were carefully tossed in the citrus vinaigrette. It had a really light fresh flavor overall. I would eat the salad year-round if I could. The Yorkshire pudding was served warm. It was light and fluffy. I opted to finish the meal with the upside down. Pineapple cake served in a wedge shape. It was sweet and delicious. The hot coffee is simple book perfection. Service was attentive and friendly. there was light conversation. A beautiful dining room. Prices are expected for "Neiman Marcus" so while this sometimes becomes a destination or celebration lunch destination you should definitely visit if you haven't. Plenty of parking out front in the mall and parking structure. They are located on the third floor. Dress code seems simple and mellow. Most guests are wearing SoCal casual. I love coming here for weekend lunch. I usually find it easy to get a reservation the day of. You get served complimentary tiny cup of consommé and a popover served with strawberry butter. I always ask for a tiny pot of consommé. I switch up between sashimi of yellow fin tuna and spicy ahi tuna tartar. Even though they are listed under starters, the portions are big enough for a person. I get full off of either dish. But if you're not wanting to be part of the ladies who lunch ....for 2+ hours.... Then this place may not be for you. After we got our waters filled, it was approximately 30 minutes before our order was taken, and we sat by the server computer, so she saw us plenty of times with our menus to the side. My table mates all got some sort of salmon- the green goddess salad with salmon add-on, salmon tacos, and another something green with salmon. Maybe if we had ordered a cocktail with our lunch, we would've been more jovial rather than annoyed. My tacos had nice flavor and presented well on the taco rack. But we ran out of conversation after 2 hours and it just became tedious to ask for the check to pay. This restaurant is located inside Neiman Marcus. I have been dining in a few times already. Server Ben and Mark were friendly each time I visited. Cute atmosphere to have a lovely lunch with friends. Food and drinks definitely are a hit! Good size portions for what you pay for. Have no complaints everything on the menu is scrumptious! They always have a specialty menu where other dishes are offered. My go to drink is espresso martini. One of my favorite while enjoying my meal. Lemon drop martini didn't disappoint me either! One of my mom's favorites. Unfortunately we were unable to make reservation for 5 and when we got there the only available tables were outside on the balcony. Let me tell you how undesirable that was. For starters the seats were old and dirty looking, if you're dressed nice, you def want to avoid sitting outside. They have these tube flame lamps but it did not keep us warm (well 1/2 of the table was warm and the other 1/2 facing the wind was freezing). The chill outside made your food cold so fast that you won't be able to enjoy any of your hot foods. On to the food. I got the $20 burger and the patty was burnt and had a bitter taste to it. My mom loved her roasted pear salad and California club. We also ordered the roasted pear salad with salmon and that was delicious and surprisingly moist and tuna salad sandwich was ok. We made a mistake of ordering the truffle fries as a couple of our orders came w fries and if your sitting outside, cold fries are no bueno. Not sure what the rave was about the puffs and chicken broth that's included w the meals but we thought they were ok. The strawberry butter was not as good as I had envisioned. Overall: Maybe seated outside completely ruined my experience and my burnt patty. When I eat at bougie place I have such a high expectation. We came here as a group of 8. It took a while to get seated, as there was a long line of people waiting at the hostess' podium. A couple tried to cut in front of us which the hostess did not allow, and I was grateful for that. We chose the restaurant at the recommendation of our family friends, and it was a little difficult to find since it's located inside of Neiman Marcus. We did find it, but the signage for the restaurant seemed pretty limited/lacking and we needed to ask staff for directions. The restaurant has big windows and lots of natural light, which is beautiful. The carpet is a bright blue which looks nice in the light. We were served a puffed pastry of sorts which I didn't take a picture of because I was so excited to eat it. It came with a berry butter which was super delicious and unique. The pastries were also warm so the butter melted nicely on them. I had the citrus salad which was very good and I added salmon. I wanted something light and this salad was exactly what I was looking for. My boyfriend had the grain bowl and said the miso sauce was delicious. We also had some drinks, including an espresso martini, which was perfectly sweet. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. It is on the pricier side, but it was a nice treat so I think it's worth it. Mariposa is a wonderful restaurant at the top of Neiman Marcus. It gets pretty packed so a reservation is recommended but not required. You start every meal with a small glass of complementary chicken broth and popover pastry with strawberry butter. It is one of the most incredible starts to a meal and hints at the quality to come. I always get the same thing because I love it so much I haven't tried anything else, but I hear it's all good. They start everyone with a tiny cup of chicken bouillon that is very tasty (it used to include a tiny bite sized cheese biscuit, I wish they would bring back)! Then they bring you a warm popover with the most delicious strawberry butter. The service has gone down here. It started off strong being greeted and seated promptly for my reservation time. We got our complimentary broth and popovers with delish butter. We put in our lunch orders and after ordered drinks and that's when the service started to fall apart. We were a party of three celebrating my 50th birthday and it was a bit disappointing. I had really contemplated where to eat with a friend visiting from Chicago. It had been a while since I dined here, so I thought it would be nice to eat here again since I love the popovers and the ambience of this restaurant. However, my friends and I received subpar service. My friend noticed it has been 45 minutes and we had not received our meals. All the tables around us had received theirs except ours including tables who came after us. It took them quite a bit of time for us to receive our drinks. Well, my friend flagged our server who kept disappearing. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant and it was pretty full, so we get that it was busy. Anyhow, after what was about another ten to fifteen minutes to find and flag down our server, we asked him why our order hadn't come out. We had ordered chicken salad sandwiches and a quinoa salad. I doubt that our order would take very long to make. The server looked stressed and I honestly think he forgot to put our order in. Geez. When makes my reservation, I did inform them it was my birthday. The server must have felt bad because he ended up comping us our drinks and offered us free dessert. At this point we're at over an hour here. Although I was in good company, we were weary and hungry waiting. The server also failed to mention that the chocolate soufflé would take 40 minutes to make, which is what I wanted. I ended up ordering creme brûlée because we were done waiting for that long. We laughed in disbelief. Seriously? Our server did end up comping us almost half the bill, but the service really needs improvement. As soon as you sit down with the menu and get your drink order, they bring you a complimentary cup of Chicken Consommé and a Popover with Strawberry Butter. Chicken Consommé - Overly salted and aggressively peppered chicken broth. This is NOT consommé. Not one bit. Popover with Strawberry Butter - The only thing worthwhile here! Delicious! I asked for a second piece, which came out piping hot and that second popover was better than the first! Glistening with melted butter on top, lightly crispy, and golden, nice and chewy on the inside. Delightful! MANDARIN ORANGE SOUFFLÉ (NM Chicken Salad, Sliced Almonds, Seasonal Fresh Fruit, Today's Sweet Bread, $25.5) After reading a Yelp review on the Orange Souffle, I had to get it. I found no pictures of it on Yelp, so after thinking it would be something amazing, I ordered it. The server try to sway me away from it, convincing me to order the salmon tacos or the Seafood Louie salad, but I wanted to try the Mandarin Orange Soufflé, thinking I'm getting some savory or sweet soufflé. A fluffy, cloudlike French treat. But nope. The server failed to tell me this "orange souffle" was merely an orange creamsicle flavored jello! He had plenty of time to explain what it is because I asked him if it was a soufflé, which he passed it off as it was! He did explain there was a chicken salad and fruit on the plate as well, so I was fully expecting that. Taste-wise it was good. No off-tasting anythings. Wish I ordered something else though. It's so strange eating chicken salads when you're not at some BBQ or something like that. This is a very average menu item. It's weird it's offered on a menu at Neiman Marcus' Mariposa that tries to be "upscale." The prices are high for what the food is. It's overpriced. It's not fancy food, just your average, every day food you can probably make at home. When you ask for the check, they give you a small square of mint chocolate. It was good. I mean, how bad can a small square of mint chocolate be? CUSTOMER SERVICE One word: BAD. I did go for Sunday lunch, so they were getting busy. But people were trickling in, but it was not packed. So, I came to Mariposa again, a few days ago, for a late lunch. I usually get the orange soufflé entree for lunch, but I decided to try something different. I tried the lobster Cobb salad. If you love lobster, then this is up your alley. They didn't scrimp on the lobster, you definitely get plenty, and for the $36 price tag, I'd say it's worth it. I Love that you still get the chicken consume in a demitasse cup and large popover as an automatic starter. The strawberry butter, that comes with the popover, is devine. My wife had a NM gift card for the restaurant, so we ended up ordering more than we would have normally, but we had the chili, two salads, short rib tacos and carrot cake, along with the obligatory popovers and consume, and the food came it at under $100. The drinks were extra, but not outrageous. We both had the blood orange margarita, and it was fine. The spot itself is nice, on the 3rd floor with some outdoor seating if you like. They turned us down because they are "fully booked". We told the host we were willing to split the party and he only allowed 1 table of 3 to dine. Once we were seated, it took a long time before they brought the bone broth and brioche. When she did, she just dumped it down as if she was angry and rushed. But there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. When the server came, we placed our order and I clearly requested a different salad dressing on the side, not the one on the menu. I also ordered truffle fries. He said sure, but It took over half an hour to get a salad and sandwich, though there was hardly anyone dining. When it did come the salad was soaked in the dressing server agreed it wouldn't have. No fries. So I asked for the fries again and asked if he could bring the dressing I ordered. He seemed annoyed at that point and said it could be fixed in two minutes. When he brought the salad back, it was literally the ingredients dumped onto the plate in a mess. And he forgot the fries yet again. Mind you, there was hardly anyone. When he finally did bring them, he did not look happy as if Id done something to cause his oversight. At that point, the restaurant was closing in eight minutes. So we finally had our meal dumped off due to the careless mistakes, then the person who first slammed down the bone broth looking mad started slamming dishes at the table next to us angrily as if it was time for us to leave. This is really not acceptable. We were celebrating an important special occasion, spending a decent amount, and were polite to everyone. There was absolutely no reason to be treated this way or for the kitchen to be annoyed that we politely requested what we'd first ordered. Mariposa really needs to get a new staff who cares about people who dine here and shop at Neiman Marcus. It is not happening now and is definitely downgrading the business.
