Serena was our waitress, and she was incredibly helpful, attentive, and had a great sense of humor. She made us feel welcome and took excellent care of us throughout the meal. I really wanted to love this place. I've ordered takeout from here multiple times before with no issues, so I had high expectations for an in-person visit. Here's the problem: quality control just isn't there anymore. I ordered a salad and the avocado on top was clearly rotten. Not slightly bruised - I'm talking black, mushy, oxidized to the point of being inedible. It looked like it had been sitting out for days. For a salad that cost well over $20, that's unacceptable. I took two bites, felt my stomach turn, and put the fork down. The rest went in the trash. As a mid-to-high-end spot in Newport Beach that charges premium prices for clean eating, this fails the kitchen standards. Someone prepped that salad, someone plated it, and someone sent it out. No one noticed? Or worse - no one cared? To be fair: service was fine, the space is nice. Hummus with pita tastes great. But after this meal, my stomach literally felt off for hours - the opposite of what "healthy eating" should do. I won't be coming back. Service was good. The food was 'meh.' Had Easter Brunch and sat on the patio. It's beautiful building and spacious covered patio. The menu has a health vibe, but the flavors come up short. I had their grass fed / grass finished burger and my guest had pancakes. Burger wasn't seasoned well and the bun was not great (and beat up -- see picture). The burger had fries as a plus up option (instead of a side salad). The fries were air fryer fries and they weren't great. The burger was just 'ok' ... and for $19.95 +$2.50 for the fries... you want a great burger. The blueberry pancakes were whole grain, which wasn't mentioned on the menu... and it was a bummer because whole grain pancakes just don't hit like good old fashioned pancakes. $15.50 for pancakes with no side of ham or egg seemed like a lot. The whole grain didn't work... plus they tasted like the flat top. I wonder if the cook didn't wipe the flat top down before making the pancakes. The beverage game is solid. Refresher juices are really good and are very fresh and well balanced. I like that they have a variety of cocktails to try and a range of price points. Maybe I should have ordered straight up healthy options instead of a burger and pancakes... but the food wasn't worth it. Very attentive service. Host stand did a nice job as well. We had a stellar experience here for dinner on a Sunday night. I made a reservation through Open Table and the restaurant called me in advance to ask if I wanted indoor or outdoor seating. We chose outdoor because they advised us it would be quieter which it was. All the staff were really friendly and helpful especially our server. The drinks were fantastic - I recommend the Prickly Pear refresher and everyone raved about their food in our part of 6. I had the Tuna Poke Bowl which is probably the best Poke bowl I've ever had. Knowing we share the values of the restaurant and feeling like we were eating healthy food added to the experience. They gave my daughter a complimentary dessert for her birthday too. Do NOT order the air fried True Crisp'd Chicken tenders. They weren't good. The flavor was decent, but not decent enough to enjoy eating it. You'd think a restaurant would care enough to not over cook the chicken this much. Immediately off the bat they were hard and dense just by sticking my fork in it. Biting down in it was even more confirmation of that and it was very dry. It was saved by the yummy sauce and simple salad. However I would never order this again. Service was amazing! I cannot recommend this place enough! I went for the first time yesterday and will absolutely be coming back! We got the charred cauliflower to start which was incredible! I got the TFK Classic Chicken Sandwich with a gluten free bun, from the True Crisp'd menu. Everything on that part of the menu is air fried, gluten free and 100% seed oil free... phenomenal! Our waiter Jose was so nice when I told him I had a gluten allergy, he gave me recommendations. Most of my experiences with gluten free bread haven't been good but this place was AMAZING! The gf bun wasn't dry, flakey or tasteless. The sandwich was 12/10!!!! I loved the atmosphere, very nice dim lighting and music wasn't too loud! TFK has been my go-to spot for a long time now - I know their menu caters to everyone's dietary choices and limitations. So I invited friends to meet up here today an and had a horrible experience. Service was non-existent - when we eventually went inside to try and order we were chided and asked to return to our table and wait for a server. I can't believe the staff here gets to treat customers like this. Our food was stale - the Brussels sprouts was actually smelling. Separately, earlier today, I ordered a matcha - requesting whole milk. The barista gave me almond milk. When I returned after taking a sip and realizing their mistake - and requested it with whole milk again - the person at the counter claimed I was lying and in fact must have ordered almond because the order slip says so. As in, they didn't/ couldn't make a mistake but a customer is wrong!? The barista then goes on to remember I did say whole milk but then adds it ids "pre-made matcha" and hence tasted as if it's in almond milk. WTH!?!? No manager in sight. We've just spent nearly $200 in the past few hours and have had 3 horrible experiences. read more

Gotta be honest, the quality of the offerings has slumped. I had the spicy panang curry with salmon. The salmon was dry. Not very fresh and the curry was watery. It used to be thick and more savory. Cilantro was limp. The prickly pear hibiscus refresher was still good. The others in our party enjoyed their thin mini pizzas and the jambalaya, which was a good portion. Our server, though very competent, never smiled. Not even once. It soured the mode a bit but we were a fun party so it didn't really have much of an effect. The open plan is annoying because it did not allow for normal voice conversations. It was loud. But the ambiance is cute and clean. Oh also very boring options for desserts. We took a chance without ever visiting before and hosted a graduation dinner for 25 guests in their private room, and it was a hit! The ambiance was spectacular- lots of natural light, clean, relaxed, and inviting. Plenty of space to mingle with everyone. The food was delicious. Super fresh and tasty and the presentation was impeccable. Entrees were well portioned. We selected a pre fixe menu for the guests which included three starters, guest selection from four entrees, and choice of dessert. We were able to coordinate with the events manager in advance to discuss menu, set up, and other logistics. Everyone enjoyed getting to pick their dishes and drinks. A heartfelt thank you to our server Lily! She truly made this event memorable with her enthusiastic attitude, attentiveness, and accuracy. It was my birthday yesterday. After seeing a movie at The Lot I wanted a clean healthy meal because I have celiac disease. Usually True Foods is good but we haven't been in awhile. When I looked on Yelp to see if they had anything new on the menu it showed a new gluten free chicken tenders air fried dish which sounded fun since I never get to eat anything out like that having celiac. The server came up and to take our drink order and I asked why it wasn't showing on the menu and she said it ended a week ago, that it was seasonal. I was truly disappointed being that I specifically chose that place to eat for my birthday. I asked my husband and son if we should go somewhere else. When she came back she was so very rude taking our food order. I noticed she sat her family friends next to us after we sat down as well. She took their order and visited with them being very friendly and brought their food quickly. Then she was no where to be found. As our food came out each dish was worse than the next. First my son's burger soggy on the bottom dry on top and cold! Plus his fries were cold and dry. How can you go wrong on a burger and fries? Go to Burger Lounge in CM if you want a killer burger! My dish Koreon Noodle Bowl was disgusting! Noodles mushy, sauce way too salty and barley and veggies as in the description. I literally felt like I was gonna have a stroke from all the salt. Go to Hanuman Thai Eatery for a wonderful clean meal. Lastly, my husband got a simple pepperoni pizza. How hard could that be to cook? Another server bought out the first Pizza and said sorry we made it wrong. But we will give you this to eat since your family has been eating for 10 minutes without you. But will bring the second pizza soon. My husband took a few bites of the first Pizza that they messed up and said it was not appealing and didn't taste right. So he waited for the new one which he said was a little better, but the tomato sauce tasted like it came from a can. Go to Bueno Forchetta if you want fabulous pizza. Oh, and I forgot to mention the appetizer cauliflower dish. The cauliflower was all burnt and overcooked. The only good thing was my expresso martini. The entire experience was horrible. The food server needs more training and needs to treat all customers like her friends. Especially if somebody's coming in for a special occasion. Knowing that we were spending over $100 for this terrible meal was a waste of time and very frustrating. The food server never wished me a happy birthday and didn't come back to the point of feeling like we were prisoners, waiting for the bill to pay for crap. I asked my husband for the keys to the car. Tried True Food kitchen for the first time and was pretty disappointed by the food taste and preparation, on top of this the high price point with small portions, making the above even less justifiable . Additionally, the food and drink came out very slow despite it not being a particularly busy night. We ordered the steak frites, the jambalaya pasta, and one of their juice drinks and a cocktail. This restaurant theme is healthy, and I get that healthy may mean less tasty, but wow, this was worse than eating frozen lean cuisines. The "frites" are air fried and they are just plain not good. They tasted overcooked/very dry and cardboard-like. The sauce that came with it was tasteless. This dish also came with a salad which had no flavor dressing at all. The plating and portions for $42 was extremely disappointing (see photo). The Jambalaya pasta was like soup, did they not drain the noodles? It was extremely watery and had a watered down taste. What a great find in Newport Beach! I didn't even know True Food Kitchen existed at Fashion Island until my niece booked a reservation for our big family to celebrate her college graduation. When we arrived, the staff already had our table prepared, which made us feel welcomed right away. We were all in celebration mode and definitely ready to eat. The menu surprised me with its healthy options and great drink choices. I went with a cappuccino and the All-American Burger with a kale salad. My mom ordered the seasonal spinach and mushroom pizza, and it looked so good I had to sneak a taste. Everything was delicious. My cappuccino was rich and smooth, the burger was juicy without being greasy, and the kale salad was fresh and flavorful. Honestly, the whole meal was worth the trip. There was plenty of places and it was early enough before the dinner crowed but the server said I couldn't sit by the fire in the sun where I wanted to. It was 20 steps from where she placed me in partial sun. The service was alright at least the food came out Farley quick. Although I only ordered side items so it should have. I want to take a moment to recognize the hard work, passion, and excellent service this restaurant consistently provides. I have been coming here for more than three years, and the experience and food have always been amazing. This time, I especially want to mention our waiter, Jake, and the manager, Arthur Bedway, because they truly made this visit memorable. From the beginning, Jake provided excellent customer service. He helped me with my request for the kale salad along with fries for my burger, even though the meal usually comes with only one side. Later, when I mentioned that the fries did not taste quite right, he kindly asked the chef to prepare them again for me. A few minutes later, the manager, Arthur, came by to ask how everything was. I shared my experience with him, not as a complaint, but simply as feedback. He was very kind, understanding, and professional. Shortly after, he came back with a receipt showing a $0 balance and apologized for the inconvenience. He also said he would love to have me back again. That meant a lot to me because it showed his kindness, professionalism, respect, and genuine passion for providing the best customer service possible. Would love to be able to review the food here but I'm not sure that will happen. As a solo diner I get overlooked occasionally but today is one for the record books. Was seated 15 minutes ago in a pretty empty restaurant. Another party of six was seated shortly after. They were across the restaurant and I'm sure they had a different server over there, but she was right on it. Watched several other waitstaff walk by me several times; would have appreciated a simple acknowledgment that someone would be with me soon. Eventually the young lady who waited on the other party across the room came to take my order. Will see where it goes from here... So far, classic margarita was decent. Rancher's hash breakfast was flavorful but could have used a little more sweet potato. Meat was a bit tough. Eggs were perfect and enjoyed the sourdough. Overall food was good. I've never been here when it wasn't slammed. We ordered the tomato basil soup, margarita pizza, Grass-fed burger with side salad and a sparkling water. The soup was so clean and fresh. No dairy, no oil on top just clean and yummy. The pizza, which is sourdough fermented for 24 hours, was so good. I cannot eat pizza, the gluten crushes me, but this pizza made by the gods gave me zero reaction. And lastly the grass-fed burger on that perfect flax seed bun with grilled onions and mushrooms with arugula and some yummy avocado oil aoli. Fire! We came on a Wednesday evening and I thought there would be plenty of parking but I was wrong. It looked like one section was closed off due to construction or something like that. The restaurant was very spacious and had positive vibes bouncing from one area to the next. Our server was very polite and you could tell that the staff here are well trained. The servers seem to have their script down from what I could hear. We had to request additional water. We both chose from the dinner duo menu, which comes with a starter side entrée and a main dish. I liked the different options available and it's amazing that everything is organic. I went with the half chopped salad, which was filled with so many different delicious ingredients and textures. It reminded me of a granola type of dish, but with fruits and salad. The champagne salad dressing was perfect. After that, I enjoyed the teriyaki chicken quinoa bowl. The crisp sugar snap peas were so fresh and crunchy. I enjoyed every bite. My friend ordered the tomato soup and a chicken pesto pasta. The Roasted Butternut Squash pizza is consistently amazing, and their lunch, brunch, and dinner options are usually fantastic. This time, I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I tried the Southwest Tofu Scramble, which I absolutely loved over a year ago, but this time it didn't look or taste the same (you can compare the photo in my previous review)--it was mostly just plain soy, so I won't be ordering it again. On the bright side, the Kale Aid with organic kale, ginger, organic apple, celery, cucumber, and lemon was refreshing as always. It was a busy weekend and I called for a reservation last minute while walking around Fashion island, but they said they don't have any available and no walk-ins left. I had a large party and I tried walking in anyways and luckily they were accommodating and said as long as we're done before a certain time for the next reservation. I decided to try the chicken sandwich, which seems to be a new addition to the menu, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst chicken sandwiches I've had. The chicken didn't taste fresh or properly prepared; it felt more like a processed grocery-store patty. The portion was extremely thin, which was disappointing and not at all what I expected. On top of that, the bread was oversized and cold, making the sandwich very unbalanced and underwhelming. I think this place is convenient. That is the best way to describe it. It is very big! So being seated isn't an issue unless you come on a Friday night then yes it can get pretty packed. I also saw they have a bar area or you know it must get a little litty while the sports are playing. Menu is pretty straightforward it seemed like they had a little of everything. We had a vegetarian with us and they got an impossible burger and they liked it. I got the Korean glass noodles and added chicken to it and it was delicious. I just wish the portions were bigger.
