If Yelp had half stars I would go with 3.5 stars. For Colorado I'd say this is a decent seafood place but if we're thinking more broadly it's alright. The food is pretty good especially the seafood platter we got. It comes with a lot of food for 2 so it's definitely worth the money and you even have leftovers.. probably. I love the fried fish and it's got a good mix of things. What I didn't enjoy so much is the extreme tostada with the ceviche. The shrimp felt overcooked to me and the octopus too. I could see myself coming back but I'm also not like crazy about it. Overall a decent place and they definitely have a lot of variety on the menu. read more

Overhyped, pictures on ig and the menu look amazing but the food was underwhelming. Cool place for a drink. Unfortunately the waitress messed up part of our order and the bartender had to remake our drink 3x bc she didn't know the menu. Oh well, at least we got a free drink. Servers are super busy running around, I think if they slowed down a bit there would be less mistakes. Luckily one of the servers helped us get everything sorted with the drink, she was really sweet. I've never had a whole fried fish before, and honestly, the eyes were creeping me out so I had to pull the head off and chuck it. I live relatively close to this restaurant and saw it featured in the SouthEast Express newspaper that comes in my mail. Given the good write-up, and the fact that I enjoy tilapia, I had to try it. Tried a ceviche tostada and the portion of ceviche they give you is very plentiful but the ceviche itself was pretty basic. We got a Sea and Land Grill platter. In terms of portion size, this place offers MASSIVE portions. You'll definitely have left overs if you buy this for 2 people. In terms of flavor it was pretty basic. The breading on the fish and shrimp was kind of thick and a little on the bland side. Honestly the only thing I liked was the bacon wrapped shrimp w/ ham. I have never seen breaded shrimp like this and I have had my fair share of them. The rice has no flavor and was overall dry. We also ordered a shrimp cocktail and it had no flavor. Just had an amazing dinner at Mariscos Altamar. This restaurant is in a rundown shopping strip mall but from what we have heard everyone loves this place and I can now see why. This is obviously a place that is frequented by locals and lots of repeat customers. Their seafood is great, had both octopus and shrimp dishes. I really like this place and will be back soon during my two weeks stay here in South Colorado Springs. If you are looking for the normal cheesy, greasy Americanized Mexican food, this is not the place for you. This place is the real deal. read more

Delicious!! I was greeted by a live Mariachi when I arrived (not sure it was theirs but rather someone hired) none the less helped set the mood. I had the Pineapple Mariscada thing (see picture) don't recall the exact name of it :) I had a Modelo Michilada ( like mine Spicer and less tomatoe mix). Over all the food is YUM! We had the Parillada de Mar y Tierra which is a large platter of assorted seafood, steak and chicken. YUM!!!! We visited Mariscos Altamar today and after a two hour experience, I can honestly say I will never come back again. We sat down for 25 minutes before they brought us our beverages. We asked for more chips and it took them another 20 minutes to bring it. After another long 35 minutes we did not even receive our main dish. Our appetizer did come, but the oysters did not taste fresh and were horrible. The service was by far the worst I have ever experienced in my three years in Colorado. I have been here quite a few times. My favorite is the poblano crema shrimp. This might be my favorite shrimp dish in town. They also do very good shrimp and seafood cocktails. Another favorite of mine is the sopa de mariscos which is a shrimp soup in a tasty tomato broth. I will definitely be back. I am not Mexican but I am originally from San Diego, CA, so I tried my fair share of Mexican food. The atmosphere (vibe) here is cool. I forgot I was in Colorado for a second. The food not soo much. It is over priced. The rice tasted and looked over cooked. The fish tasted funny. I know we are land locked but damn. Two of us ordered side salads. They came as lettuce only sides with no dressing or anything else. The chicken burrito only had chicken and rice in it, and it was dry. Ok came here with low expectations since we don't live anywhere near a coast for fresh seafood. Came in on a Sunday afternoon expecting just to walk in and be seated but arrived to a 30 minute wait. Had the tostada extrema(fish, shrimp, octopus ceviche) as an appetizer. Was enough for 4 and could've had that as an entree was so good. As an entree we chose the land and sea platter steak and chicken flavorful and cooked perfect. breaded seafood was a little over cooked but good nonetheless. Baked wrapped shrimp and jalapeños were delicious. Dessert had the cheesecake which was smooth and creamy doubt it was made in house because no way a Mexican restaurant could make cheesecake that good.
