I always like to start with the positive: Some of the seafood dishes are amazing and delicious (like the maripina). The service is friendly, attentive, and quick. Now, the not so positive: The ambiance is somewhat sleazy. This is really such a shame, because on the outside it looks like a ship, making it seem much more intriguing and interesting than it really is. Sadly, all of that fades away when you step inside and see how small it is. For example, if you go with a big group, they don't really have any big tables to seat everyone, and will pull out a folding table to put next to the regular table. Although this is very kind on their part, it is uncomfortable to sit at at table that is uneven with the main table, and that has been placed in the path of busy food servers. There was live music the day we went. It was way too loud, and you couldn't really have a conversation without shouting and screaming at one another. The music genres that were being played that day seemed to attract many older single men who sat there and drank and got wasted. Certainly not a good environment for families with small children. The rest of the people in my group were also not that impressed with this restaurant, and we pretty much all decided that we will not return. read more

Mariscos El BarCo was one of the restaurants at the recent Mercado Mexicano Yelp event. They served an amazing Michelada red beer drink at the event and also showcased a shrimp dish. I was happy to discover that El BarCo is owned by a former co-worker of mine who also owns the taqueria next to the restaurant. I couldn't wait to go give it a try. Other than the restaurant being freezing, it was a pleasant experience. The food is fresh and tasty. The service is good. I was one of only 2 people in the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. I gave it 4 stars for the food and service but was very disappointed with the DJ too loud, place sounded like a cantina on Saturday night not a dinner house a 5:00 PM. We sat at the farest table from the big speaker and still too loud for a dinner house. What dinner house has a DJ, maybe a piano or guitar especially when the restaurant is so small. Went to Mariscosd on 1/24/24 for a late lunch in hopes of getting good seafood and mexican food. Very disappointed. Food: Did not have the Red Snapper that was on the menu (said they were out) so ordered the grilled salmon that was just "O.K." Wife had the mixed fahitas (shrimp/chicken/steak). Shimp was not too bad but chicken tastless. Steak was so tough we could not chew. Informed the waitress and she said "sorry". Service: Waitress was very nice, but did not offer to take anything off or adjust the bill for inedible steak. Wife ordered a diet coke and was charged $5.18. Thought that was high for this type of establishment. I had water. Both dinners were overpriced for what we were charged. Ambience: Inside restaurant extremely cold. Had to go back and get our coats. Looked up at the ceiling vents. Clogged with dust and dirt. Much grime around the cash register. Hope the kitchen was clean. Wonder when they had their last health inspection? Everytime the front door closed it made a very loud banging sound that made everyone jump. A simple adjustment would rectify. Needless to say we will never go back. read more

This is a peculiar place. I stopped by today for a drink and an appetizer, and I don't know why they are open. They are over staffed (see the picture of staff deep in thought as they discuss Wittgenstein on their cellphones), and they don't seem to care about the people they serve. The bar is not really a bar. It's just a catch all for the wayward, misguided, forlorn folks who stop by. I had a margarita, and it was so weak that I ordered a double for my second one. So I was craving some seafood today And I thought Id try out this place. 1st impression was that it was clean and we were sat quickly. The music was a little too loud but I expected that like I do in any other mariscos restaurant. Our waitress was nice but very blunt at the same time. (Personally prefer them that way) the reason I gave 3 stars is because of the food... the mussels were good but had a little difficulty taking them off the shell. I was very upset about the aguachile because 1 there was no cucumber at all and 2 there was no avocado. I asked and they were out of the two..... to me that was just shrimp in some spicy sauce. Such a great spot! Have you ever seen a boat turned into a restaurant? Look no further! Total nautical theme inside and the staff was super friendly. We came in for a quick lunch and ordered two empanadas and tow oyster shooters to go. It was ready right away. The oyster shooters also had a shrimp in there and we threw em back. The perfect amount of spice and so fresh as well! Then we dived into our empanadas. Filled with shrimp and cheese. It came with two dipping sauces and both complimented the empanada wonderfully. The food was good! We tried the cóctel de camarón, empanadas de camarón , oysters and fries and fried chicken. The empanadas were great and same for the cóctel de camarón!! So delicious! The only thing I didn't felt was 100% done by them was the fried chicken I order with fries. The fries were good and chicken was also cooked but it felt it was frozen chicken from the store and not done freshly at the restaurant. Heard about this place at YelpMercado and was impressed enough to head over. The restaurant is clean, has a nice atmosphere, and an attentive staff. The menu has some pescador classics and some fresh approaches. Robin had the fajitas which were simple and tasty. I tried out the gigantic Copa del BarCo Michelada. A traditional michelada with octopus, clams, shrimp, and oysters. I also, for some reason, had a pulpo tostada. Both were exceptional. The michelada was...vast...ocean sized...amazing. I give them a two because they had good customer service but that could be because we were there around lunch time and they were not that busy. My partner ordered oysters and they smelled bad (and my partner is from Acapulco so he has been around seafood all his life) and were not even separated from the shell. My partner told the server and she took them back without any question which made us believe she knew they weren't great or she has heard the complaint before. Not sure? I ordered the shrimp empanadas, they were good although you can really taste the flour in them. Not a big deal to me though. I also ordered a shrimp ceviche tostada. That was aight. It was just really cold as if everything had just came out of the fridge. It was just too cold but that is just my opinion. You might like it like that! Fresh out of the fridge. My partner also ordered Langostinos (see picture) squad lobsters or also known as crayfish. Well those were overcooked. He knew they were overcooked because they were mushy. I have watched this "pirate ship" of a restaurant go through many different versions but had not taken the opportunity to visit them until this past week. What an amazing gem! I was transported to Mexico when I visited this lively Mexican Restaurant. We enjoyed Micheladas, which I hadn't tried before, but hubby had last trip to Leon, Mexico. He verified that's exactly what they taste like. We ordered an seafood appetizer which had perfectly toasted coconut shrimp and a delicious whitefish. I ordered the salmon and it was perfectly cooked and was mouthwatering! We were also entertained by a couple of guitar players that were serenading customers. If I could give this place a 10 star I would. Walking into the restaurant you could feel an amazing ambience. The owner welcomed us in and you can tell he takes pride in his business. Looking at the menu I couldn't believe how many seafood options they had. From ceviche to seafood molcajetes you couldn't go wrong to absolutely love what you choose. Pair it up with a Model and you got yourself a great meal. They play live music on the weekends so this place is defiantly lively. They were about to close in an hour when we got there I was contemplating if I should go in to not disturb them but they gladly welcomed me in.
