I found this place on Yelp while I was in the area because we were craving tacos. This was the place that came up when I searched the best Mexican restaurants near me. Usually Yelp does not let me down but this time I was surprised. The tacos were decent, nothing special. But the sauces were not good. I have not been to a Mexican restaurant where the sauces were all nasty. Highly disappointed. I do appreciate the service. They were very nice and kind. They even gave us a ceviche torta to sample since it was our first time there. However, the ceviche was not palatable. I know they are known for their seafood so we did try the lobsters tacos, which were pretty good. Overall, decent experience, cute patio area, fun decor, but I would not return.
This place is so good! Friends kept telling me to go, and now I get why everyone talks about it. If you're planning to visit, try to come before the dinner rush because it fills up fast. Also bring a group. The portions are huge and the food is clearly meant to be shared. Trust me on this one, bring friends. I've tried a bunch of dishes here, and there are a few I always go back to. For the table, Camarones Locos is an easy choice. The flame grilled shrimp comes out hot and full of flavor, perfect for passing around. La Patrona ceviche tower is massive and worth the order. When it hits the table, you immediately feel good about the decision. El Pulpazo is technically an entrée, but we always order it as a shareable. The octopus is grilled perfectly and it comes with rice and beans, so everyone gets a little of everything. For entrées, my number one pick is the Lobster and Crab Enchiladas with green sauce. I think about this dish at least once a week. The enchiladas are packed with lobster and crab, and the green sauce ties the whole thing together. Honestly, I could talk about this place all day. If you like Mexican food and seafood, you need to try it. Great food, big portions, and a menu that makes it hard to stop ordering.
This place is EXCELLENT!!! From the service to the food it's the best. I've been twice now and I want to go back everyday. The first time I tried the La Patrona seafood ceviche tower something I had never eaten before with the various seafood. This was so good. I just wanted to keep eating. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The next time I tried tacos. The Tacos Mixtos (steak, chicken, fish, and shrimp) and Tacos Pulpo Zarandeado (grilled octopus). OMG!!! I am in love. I normally don't eat the rice and beans but I tasted them and along with the tacos they were amazingly good. Our waiter Poppa Jon was so nice and helpful. He served with a smile and answered my questions. This is the best Mariscos in AZ.
We came on Valentine's day on the way to drop off some folks at the airport. We had not been in a while and our friends had never been so we were hoping it was as good as before. We sat outside and the patio was as pleasant as always although there were a couple of hungry bees attacking our water that had fresh lemon slices. Prepare yourself for that! They brought out chips and salsa right away and the new menus. No more big book, just laminated menus - 1 for drinks and apps, the other for entrees. They still bring out the fish tostadas on the house which is always a nice touch. One of us ordered the shrimp tacos, one had carne asada tacos, the third the stuffed fish filet and I had the bacon stained guero chilies with shrimp. Everything was super tasty. The shrimp in my chilies were a tad overcooked however the bacon was really well cooked and not flabby at all. The stuffed fish was outstanding. Super tender and moist and a very large portion! We saw other folks ordering the whole fried red snapper which is served standing! We will try that next time. They served me a complementary shot of a strawberry (?) margarita. It was a nice touch and tasty with a hint of smoke. Always a sure bet for fresh seafood!
Reservations on a rainy Saturday in November, we arrived early and were seated immediately. Our friends arrived a few minutes later and we crammed ourselves into the tight table made for four but with extra chairs. The dining room is very festive and brightly decorated but packed with furniture to the brim. Tables are very close together and large customers should be aware they may be squeezed trying to enter and exit. Studied the massive venue for the longest time, while sipping on a La Ofrenda cocktail, a steep $17 but excellent flavor. It has tequila, pomegranate, fresh lime, juice, sour mix, tajin with an adorable skeleton garnish. I ordered the Filete Divorciado with half red and half green sauce (omg the red is not called diablo for being mild!) but the green sauce is absolutely delectable. The fish was lightly breaded and thin, drowned in sauce on the same plate with rice beans and salad. Husband ordered the seafood enchiladas with red and green sauce and his portion was so massive the rice beans and salad came on a separate plate. He raved about the chunks of crab and lobster, and the red sauce was not too hot for him. His margarita was standard. Companions ordered a paella for 2, with extra a shrimp. Interesting the extra shrimp was grilled and seasoned differently than the fish in the paella. They loved this dish although it is not the traditional preparation as the seafood is just placed on top of the restaurant standard white rice with mixed vegetables. Server checked in on us at least a dozen times, we were never in need. Leftover packed and no room for dessert, they let us linger and visit for a very long time, never rushing us to leave. I really appreciate this in a busy spot and tipped accordingly.
The food is always amazing, they serve large portions. The service is always great. They are quick and precise and always nice. Ambiance is very fun, they sometimes have mariachis on a weekend day. I love it here! Parking is a little tight when busy so just be early.
We are obsessed with Mariscos Playa Hermosa and the fresh seafood they offer! Every dish has been wonderful but our top item is the whole fried fish (huachinango sarandeado) covered in a spicy mayo sauce. The aguachile, ceviche, molca frio and oysters are great. Lobster enchiladas are great. Chips and salsas are great. Shrimp with heads attached covered in chili (camarones locos) are great. Guac, great. You get the point. It's hard to go wrong. If you're celebrating, I recommend the seafood tower for a special event. Drinks are good but I prefer to save the room in my tummy for delicious Mariscos rather than a margarita. This is not a quiet restaurant so may not be the top choice if you're looking for an intimate spot or if someone in your party is hard of hearing.
I came down to Phoenix from Seattle for my birthday and was looking for authentic Mexican food, and this place exceeded my expectations! The food was absolutely authentic and full of flavor, the restaurant was clean and welcoming, and it was the perfect place to cool down from the Arizona heat with a delicious frozen drink. There are so many more things on the menu I'd love to come back and try! I'm so glad we stopped here, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Phoenix.
This is our second time visiting Mariscos Playa Hermosa. We visited on a whim a few years ago and when we knew we'd be back in Phoenix we made a point of returning! That should tell you everything you need to know. The food is fresh and delicious, the portions are large - it is a little pricey but worth it. The service was friendly. We showed up with a part of 7 and were sat immediately. The inside is so fun with bright, colorful paintings and decor. We love it here! And the strawberry horchata is a game changer!
Sad to say I was their guinea pig they had never served this dish before, and I ended up being the first to try it. I really wanted to go for the octopus and shrimp or keep it safe with the aguachile, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and asked for the waitress's opinion. She suggested I try this tostada. The presentation was nice, and the portion was generous, but the tostada shell was really small and the seafood was completely drenched in guacamole. It felt more like a tostada de aguacate than a seafood tostada I could barely taste any of the seafood. The fried shrimp on top was actually really good, and honestly, if I had just ordered a plate of those I would've been much more satisfied. On the positive side, the service was very friendly and attentive, the ambience definitely had that fun, party vibe. The michelada was delicious and refreshing. That said, it did feel overpriced specifically for what I got. I'll be back to try something else, probably one of their more common seafood dishes and leave another review just to see if redemption is possible.
We came to watch a soccer game and glad we did so! There was a lot of seating available and the staff were friendly! They have a lot of variety with seafood! The staff were very attentive and had great recommendations! The ambience and is nice and felt very welcoming! I recommend this place if you are looking for food seafood and drinks!
We came as a group of 4 and ordered the mocajete with green sauce which was more than enough food! It was so unique and flavorful. The fish inside was a white fish and so soft. Loved the variety of meats too! Drinks were great as well
Super cute place and did that stone bowl thing...starts with talapia, shrimp, chicken and carne with red Diablo cheese/octopus sauce in center. So good! Claudia was our super great server. Will be back for sure.

Before coming in to this place I had no idea that it had so many awards and recognitions in the city of Phoenix as we just looked up Mariscos nearby. Walking in you're greeted with a colorful design, neat tables, chairs, etc. There was some light music in the back which I believe is a much for any restaurant. Went ahead and ordered some aguachiles, a mojarra, and a coctel for my dad and I. Everything was fairly standard, but I was surprised and their version of aguachiles. Being from San Diego, I go to Tijuana and have aguachiles there often. This was an interesting twist, but was delicious. It had butterflies shrimp with nothing but a spicy sauce and then you add lime to you taste. My dad was being a little hater because he was expecting something else, but if you can get past that it's all good. Glad I stopped by here and would come back just for the aguachiles alone! read more

There's a great backstory to this adventure but needless say our visit on a Friday night with family and friends was EPIC. We were a party of five with my daughter and I the only ones who had the language skills. Mariscos Playa Hermosa aka Beautiful Beach of Seafood is a diner's delight. This is a legit Mexican restaurant in Phoenix and I am so glad we decided to throw caution to the wind and visit. When we arrived, the dining room was full of patrons enjoying their dinner. Some were partaking in Molcajetes full of shrimp and meat while others had Micheladas that were Instagram worthy. I spoke with thr older gentleman. We affectionately called each other 'compadres' or " Compa " for sure. He let me Know that the dining room was full but we Could sit outside in thr patio. I translated and our party agreed. We went to thr patio and were quickly greeted by our server. She was super attentive and explained everything. PRO TIP. If you don't have a lot of experience in ordering Mexican food let alone Mexican seafood, don't worry, the wait staff is very knowledgeable and will walk you through all the options. This even applies if you're just a fan of Bean and Cheese burritos from that place with the 'Bell' in its name. Before going any further, our group couldn't be more diverse. 1. Vegan 2. Keto 3. No Mushrooms and no tolerance to spicy food 4. Limited experience with Mexican food, like only Quesadillas 5. Eats and drinks everything Our group would be labeled as complicated at best but we each found something to eat and we were all accommodated. I ordered the Ceviche Vegano. - The ceviche vegano is made with chickpeas and was completely plant-based and vegan. Very tasty. I am very thankful to have had an option available especially at Seafood restaurant. My brother and his companion ordered a Molcajete Mixto A Molcajete is a volcano rock bowl with legs. It's heated up until it turns bright red / pink. Then the sauce is poured into bowl followed by the meat and other items. Our other companion ordered tacos with shredded beef and my daughter ordered a fried whole fish. We did order some appetizers. One of them was a quesito with chorizo. This dish is a melted cheese with chorizo. Chorizo is a spiced sausage. They also ordered a tostada with ceviche. Ceviche is widely interpreted but if prepared correctly it is raw seafood that is "cooked" with limes and lemons. Diced onions, cilantro and jalapeños are also added. The ceviche needs to be refrigerated " marinated " for some time prior to eating. We spent several hours at Mariscos Playa Hermosa, eating drinking, telling stories, laughing, and enjoying our company. That's what a dinner should be. We added some deserts and a couple more drinks to cap off the night. I can't rave any more about Mariscos Playa Hermosa they are an oasis of deliciousness in the Valley of the Sun. If you're in Phoenix, do yourself a favor and visit my compadre, have a michelada, enjoy the seafood dishes, but most of all, get lost in thr experience of the restaurant and your fellow diners. read more

I just love that three random words in Spanish were strung together to name this place! Pretty seafood beach! The food here is outrageous in a good way. It's the kind of place where when the waiter brings out the food, everyone at the table goes "oh my goodness." They've definitely got something for everyone, since their menu is overwhelmingly huge. They have enormous drinks, even virgin ones for pregnant women. First, they bring out free chips and salsa. For entrees, I shared the fajitas with my friend, and it was the perfect meal and portion. We got the one with shrimp, chicken, and carne asada, which comes with white rice, tortillas, veggies, and beans with cheese. We also got the guacamole trio for the table (pomegranate, cheese, and strawberry - loved it!). We sat outside in the patio, and I'm happy we did, because it's not only quieter, but also has way fewer people. Only thing that bugged me was the super slow service when it came to bringing the bill, taking our credit cards, and bringing the receipts back. It maybe delayed us by 20-30 minutes, which was really annoying. Otherwise, if you want a different kind of Mexican cuisine, something fun and memorable, this is a great spot for that. read more

I come here multiple times and have never been disappointed! (Late of this review as well) I don't know where to begin besides saying this is the best marisco spot and I will keep coming back. It's been hard to find something since moving to Phoenix from LA, so glad I stumble across this location. Been here 5 times already! read more

Al pastor tacos were firme AF! Service was very very good for a mariscos place. Those usually suck ass for service. Ambiance was typical nothing different or not expected for a mariscos place. Fat bastard stamp of approval! read more
I had high hopes for this place since it specializes in Mexican seafood. I got the whole fried fish and was expecting a moist sea fish, just like you would get around the Mexican coastline. They serve mostly mojarra, which has an earthy note to its meat. I could barely taste any salt or seasoning in it. We also ordered some ceviche and they also serve some complimentary ceviche on the side. The lady didn't warn us of the complimentary appetizer and we ended up with too much of it. Also, they charge lots extra for every little side of sauce you order, be aware. To use a credit card is also extra. Seems like they like to pinch pennies, except that the price of the dishes are already on the higher side. read more

One of my favorite local marisco spots. Lean mostly towards the cold mariscos dishes which are usually all excellent, some of the hot seafood dishes are hit or miss. My favorites are in the photos. Camarones locos and aguachiles the mango was the spiciest of all red green and habanero. Also love to get a big lemonade with mineral water super refreshing! read more

If you want to immerse in a Mexican cultural restaurant, come to this place. Live performances singing in Spanish. Customers dancing. Colorful chairs and tables with beautiful drawing. Food is fresh and delicious. The michelada is amazing, definitely need to try it. We feel like we are literally in Mexico. The fresh and enormous seafood tower with the black sauce is something special. The sauce is unique in the sense that I've never tried anything like it. It's got a perfect amount of flavor, zest and spice, which beautifully enhances the fresh Mexican seafood platter. It is so abundant. It fed the both of us and my boyfriend sure can eat a lot, we are already craving this delicious dish and ready to come back. The two salsas are great. The red one is extremely spicy so be careful, the green is perfect. After dinner we decided to go one and a half miles west to indulge in Nami for dessert. read more

I first discovered this place while looking for something to eat, near the airport, and I am glad I did. It is easy to spend a lot of money here, but there are some less costly food and drink items on the menu. The food is delicious here, highlighted by the awesome molcajete dish! We loved the margaritas too, on each visit, and next time we might try the michelada - it caught our eye on a nearby table. Great mariscos-focused food and a friendly, efficient staff - we are sure to be back. PS: The outdoor tables are nice, when the weather is. read more

After receiving a tip from a friend we visited Mariscos Playa Hermosa and so glad we did. This place, tucked into a non-discript little place off of E Garfield St in downtown Phoenix requires you to discover it through a friend or Yelp or you would drive right by it. The parking was a struggle but once inside you are greeted by a overwhelming bright and happy atmosphere. The place is decorated in traditional Mexican decor including the dinning chairs which are decorated with colorful birds and flowers as are the tabletops. The wait staff echoed the friendly surroundings with a happy attitude eager to take our order and delivered excellent service. The menu is expansive and highlights it's seafood specialties Every table I looked at had plates I wished I could taste I had the fish tacos and my friend the molcajete caliente. The tacos were wonderful, three tacos filled with fried filet and cabbage with a cream sauce. The molcajete was filled with Mexican goodies. Including chicken carne asada, grilled shrimp and a palate loving green sauce it was accompanied with beans and rice and tortillas of your choice. This little hidden gem is the most authentic I have seen in the area the food is medium priced but well worth the price. I can't wait to return. read more
The calamari was delicious! Fresh, hot and the presentation was unique The service was prompt. A bit noisy and filled with locals which is an indication that it's a favorite. My mojarra frita was seasoned to perfection- delicious. The space is small and tables and chairs too close. Outdoor seating with misters, but too humid outdoors in summer weather. It was the Fourth of July and it was super busy at 8:00 pm. Great food! read more

I love me some good authentic Mexican food. I had high hopes for this places. The place is real small, parking is horrible. You have to park on the street. You should make reservations. The service sub par. We asked for more chips and water on 3 occasions. Finally get it once we get our food! SMH! The shrimp tacos was good. The rice was white with vegetables, I prefer the tomato style rice! The chicken burrito enchilada style came out cold had to send it back to get it heated up. Drinks was not worth the price. I ordered the Corona Rita. It was super watered down didn't taste any tequila the only alcohol I tasted was the corona. Casa migos margarita didn't even taste like it had any tequila! Onto the next Mexican restaurant. read more
This spot has the best Mariscos in town! Homemade chips and salsa are very good, after you place your order you also get a complimentary tostada de ceviche de pescado. We ordered Steak Ranchero - Carne Asada in red sauce mixed with veggies. Plato del Capitan - was a huge Shrimp platter that has 5 different kinds of shrimp. Hassan was our waiter and he was very patient and had great customer service! We will definitely be back to try other dishes, They have a very extensive menu. read more

Came here recently with my husband and my friend. I wanted to show them why I enjoyed the food here the first time around. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a rude hostess who told me my reservation was at 2pm when I showed her my confirmation email stating my reservation was scheduled and confirmed for 4pm she continued to give me challenges. I asked to speak with her manager and then she said "oh look, a table is about to leave and I can seat you" this type of service was a very bad first impression. The food was good but the service definitely needs to improve. Starting with this hostess. I had the ceviche and my friend had the agua de Chile. The agua de Chile was not sauce and more dry. read more

Absolutely amazing food and drinks! Went here for my sisters birthday and had friends as well & we were definitely impressed! The drinks were amazing! The plater my friend and I shared was amazing and still had enough to pass around and take home for ANOTHER meal each! The service was just quick and fast and the waitresses were checking on us like clock work. There was never a time we didn't have a drink or a table cleared from the dishes. The environment was just impeccable! From the music to that bathrooms to the tables! Just a wonderful time. read more

Okay I really wanted to love this place! The vibe and ambiance was hands down 10 out of 10 but the food kinda felt like an after thought. We ordered queso and guacamole to start and the queso was literally melted cheese not creamy at all we also got 2 pineapple daiquiri which ended up being almost 40 bucks (which seemed sus as there are no prices on the menu so really they can charge whatever they want) so are they really 40 or did just we pay 40 idk? For entrées I ordered shrimp and fish which was good bit my wife ordered steak and chicken which was so bland she sent it back. Now if you're still reading let's talk about the vibe it was amazing there was a mariachi band play live music it was so cool the shots were strong and the service was also good. read more
