I found this place on Yelp while I was in the area because we were craving tacos. This was the place that came up when I searched the best Mexican restaurants near me. Usually Yelp does not let me down but this time I was surprised. The tacos were decent, nothing special. But the sauces were not good. I have not been to a Mexican restaurant where the sauces were all nasty. Highly disappointed. I do appreciate the service. They were very nice and kind. They even gave us a ceviche torta to sample since it was our first time there. However, the ceviche was not palatable. I know they are known for their seafood so we did try the lobsters tacos, which were pretty good. Overall, decent experience, cute patio area, fun decor, but I would not return.
This place is so good! Friends kept telling me to go, and now I get why everyone talks about it. If you're planning to visit, try to come before the dinner rush because it fills up fast. Also bring a group. The portions are huge and the food is clearly meant to be shared. Trust me on this one, bring friends. I've tried a bunch of dishes here, and there are a few I always go back to. For the table, Camarones Locos is an easy choice. The flame grilled shrimp comes out hot and full of flavor, perfect for passing around. La Patrona ceviche tower is massive and worth the order. When it hits the table, you immediately feel good about the decision. El Pulpazo is technically an entrée, but we always order it as a shareable. The octopus is grilled perfectly and it comes with rice and beans, so everyone gets a little of everything. For entrées, my number one pick is the Lobster and Crab Enchiladas with green sauce. I think about this dish at least once a week. The enchiladas are packed with lobster and crab, and the green sauce ties the whole thing together. Honestly, I could talk about this place all day. If you like Mexican food and seafood, you need to try it. Great food, big portions, and a menu that makes it hard to stop ordering.
This place is EXCELLENT!!! From the service to the food it's the best. I've been twice now and I want to go back everyday. The first time I tried the La Patrona seafood ceviche tower something I had never eaten before with the various seafood. This was so good. I just wanted to keep eating. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The next time I tried tacos. The Tacos Mixtos (steak, chicken, fish, and shrimp) and Tacos Pulpo Zarandeado (grilled octopus). OMG!!! I am in love. I normally don't eat the rice and beans but I tasted them and along with the tacos they were amazingly good. Our waiter Poppa Jon was so nice and helpful. He served with a smile and answered my questions. This is the best Mariscos in AZ.
We came on Valentine's day on the way to drop off some folks at the airport. We had not been in a while and our friends had never been so we were hoping it was as good as before. We sat outside and the patio was as pleasant as always although there were a couple of hungry bees attacking our water that had fresh lemon slices. Prepare yourself for that! They brought out chips and salsa right away and the new menus. No more big book, just laminated menus - 1 for drinks and apps, the other for entrees. They still bring out the fish tostadas on the house which is always a nice touch. One of us ordered the shrimp tacos, one had carne asada tacos, the third the stuffed fish filet and I had the bacon stained guero chilies with shrimp. Everything was super tasty. The shrimp in my chilies were a tad overcooked however the bacon was really well cooked and not flabby at all. The stuffed fish was outstanding. Super tender and moist and a very large portion! We saw other folks ordering the whole fried red snapper which is served standing! We will try that next time. They served me a complementary shot of a strawberry (?) margarita. It was a nice touch and tasty with a hint of smoke. Always a sure bet for fresh seafood!
The food is always amazing, they serve large portions. The service is always great. They are quick and precise and always nice. Ambiance is very fun, they sometimes have mariachis on a weekend day. I love it here! Parking is a little tight when busy so just be early.
Reservations on a rainy Saturday in November, we arrived early and were seated immediately. Our friends arrived a few minutes later and we crammed ourselves into the tight table made for four but with extra chairs. The dining room is very festive and brightly decorated but packed with furniture to the brim. Tables are very close together and large customers should be aware they may be squeezed trying to enter and exit. Studied the massive venue for the longest time, while sipping on a La Ofrenda cocktail, a steep $17 but excellent flavor. It has tequila, pomegranate, fresh lime, juice, sour mix, tajin with an adorable skeleton garnish. I ordered the Filete Divorciado with half red and half green sauce (omg the red is not called diablo for being mild!) but the green sauce is absolutely delectable. The fish was lightly breaded and thin, drowned in sauce on the same plate with rice beans and salad. Husband ordered the seafood enchiladas with red and green sauce and his portion was so massive the rice beans and salad came on a separate plate. He raved about the chunks of crab and lobster, and the red sauce was not too hot for him. His margarita was standard. Companions ordered a paella for 2, with extra a shrimp. Interesting the extra shrimp was grilled and seasoned differently than the fish in the paella. They loved this dish although it is not the traditional preparation as the seafood is just placed on top of the restaurant standard white rice with mixed vegetables. Server checked in on us at least a dozen times, we were never in need. Leftover packed and no room for dessert, they let us linger and visit for a very long time, never rushing us to leave. I really appreciate this in a busy spot and tipped accordingly.
We are obsessed with Mariscos Playa Hermosa and the fresh seafood they offer! Every dish has been wonderful but our top item is the whole fried fish (huachinango sarandeado) covered in a spicy mayo sauce. The aguachile, ceviche, molca frio and oysters are great. Lobster enchiladas are great. Chips and salsas are great. Shrimp with heads attached covered in chili (camarones locos) are great. Guac, great. You get the point. It's hard to go wrong. If you're celebrating, I recommend the seafood tower for a special event. Drinks are good but I prefer to save the room in my tummy for delicious Mariscos rather than a margarita. This is not a quiet restaurant so may not be the top choice if you're looking for an intimate spot or if someone in your party is hard of hearing.
I came down to Phoenix from Seattle for my birthday and was looking for authentic Mexican food, and this place exceeded my expectations! The food was absolutely authentic and full of flavor, the restaurant was clean and welcoming, and it was the perfect place to cool down from the Arizona heat with a delicious frozen drink. There are so many more things on the menu I'd love to come back and try! I'm so glad we stopped here, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Phoenix.
This is our second time visiting Mariscos Playa Hermosa. We visited on a whim a few years ago and when we knew we'd be back in Phoenix we made a point of returning! That should tell you everything you need to know. The food is fresh and delicious, the portions are large - it is a little pricey but worth it. The service was friendly. We showed up with a part of 7 and were sat immediately. The inside is so fun with bright, colorful paintings and decor. We love it here! And the strawberry horchata is a game changer!
We came to watch a soccer game and glad we did so! There was a lot of seating available and the staff were friendly! They have a lot of variety with seafood! The staff were very attentive and had great recommendations! The ambience and is nice and felt very welcoming! I recommend this place if you are looking for food seafood and drinks!
Sad to say I was their guinea pig they had never served this dish before, and I ended up being the first to try it. I really wanted to go for the octopus and shrimp or keep it safe with the aguachile, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and asked for the waitress's opinion. She suggested I try this tostada. The presentation was nice, and the portion was generous, but the tostada shell was really small and the seafood was completely drenched in guacamole. It felt more like a tostada de aguacate than a seafood tostada I could barely taste any of the seafood. The fried shrimp on top was actually really good, and honestly, if I had just ordered a plate of those I would've been much more satisfied. On the positive side, the service was very friendly and attentive, the ambience definitely had that fun, party vibe. The michelada was delicious and refreshing. That said, it did feel overpriced specifically for what I got. I'll be back to try something else, probably one of their more common seafood dishes and leave another review just to see if redemption is possible.
We came as a group of 4 and ordered the mocajete with green sauce which was more than enough food! It was so unique and flavorful. The fish inside was a white fish and so soft. Loved the variety of meats too! Drinks were great as well
Super cute place and did that stone bowl thing...starts with talapia, shrimp, chicken and carne with red Diablo cheese/octopus sauce in center. So good! Claudia was our super great server. Will be back for sure.

Food: 5/5 I ordered the shrimp and chicken fajitas with corn tortillas on the side. To say that the flavor was Smokey and delicious is an understatement. For someone who doesn't like to eat vegetables voluntarily, I couldn't put my fork down. The portions are huge and worth every penny! Service: 5/5 The waiter was patient, kind, and offered great suggestions. Despite the hectic flood of people due to the holiday, he made sure to stop by the table frequently and check on me. Ambiance: 4/5 I knocked a stare off because the space is small, with there being limited waiting space. The parking is also difficult. However, what the venue lacks in square footage, it makes up for in decor. The walls are multi colored as well as the tables. Each chair is hand painted with a unique design. It feels like you are sitting in a house in Mexico. Overall, the hype is JUSTIFIED! Stop by today! read more

Ok, the food here is legit. It's authentic food made by someone behind the swinging doors that actually is home ground passionate about every plate. For us gingos, be warned! The red sauce is hot. Wow wow wow! We made a reservation for 5pm and it was fairly full inside. There was also patio seating with a few tables. After a long day watching the Dodgers at spring training, we needed refreshing drinks. The menu for food and drinks is pretty epic! The complimentary seafood tostadas were a nice starter. The chips and salsa was just average. The camarrones aguachile was superb and sooo tasty. The whole grilled octopus was also very delicious and nicely cooked. Went here for family member's birthday. Super crowded but only had to wait five minutes for a table. They have a lot of tabletops in a small area. Staff was very attentive and helpful. I dont eat a lot of Mexican seafood, but I thought it was all fresh and delicious. Portions were really big. Entress came with large sides of beans and rice. Not sure we needed appetizers on top of free chips and salsa with how big the entrees were. Service was really quick. read more

I love this place! Don't let the humble outside of the restaurant or the crowded parking lot change your mind. Make a reservation and spoil yourself with the delicious mariscos they serve. OMGGGGG this may have been one of the best meals of my life y'all. The molcajete with green sauce. Just get it. My sister recommended this place. Like, she said she has considered getting a layover in phoenix purely to eat here. I rolled my eyes like "yeah, right. I'm sure it's good, but you crazy girl." Little did I know my life would soon be changed. So let me explain this molcajete dish. A molcajete is a bowl, a mortar actually, made out of volcanic rock, and it's heated searing hot, filled with sauce and cheese, and the proteins are placed around the rim to cook right on it. You need 2-3 people to finish it, but you will eat every molten bite. First, the chicken, carne asada, fish, and shrimp are seasoned to perfection and get an amazing sear on the side of the hot molcajete bowl. They would be stars even without the sauce. But WITH the sauce.... Oh, that green melty cheesy sauce. Utter perfection. The tortillas were great, the margaritas were phenomenal, the chips and salsa were stellar, even my kids' fries were delicious. But the molcajete will live in my memory forever. Loved this spot!! This place was delicious & I can't wait to go back to try more, we devoured 2 plates of the Cucararcha shrimp, absolutely delicious I definitely recommend, shrimp ceviche, could've used some spice like a jalapeño but delicious! Crab enchiladas were unique, went with both red & green sauce & green was the favorite!! The restaurant gave was complimentary fish ceviche tostadas & service was great, bussers were efficient with keeping up with empty plates from the table, everyone worked as a team & the place was packed! This was our first time here. It is pretty small, claustrophobic for me. It's also pretty loud as well. The waitress Gabby was really nice and did her best to take care of our party of 7. I felt the ceviche lacked flavor, the orgasma it was just ok, my bacon was like charred to the top of the shrimp and sauce poured over yet it was dry, I guess the better word is over cooked. The pineapple margarita was appealing to the eyes, it's a lot of fruit and a frozen margarita inside the pineapple you're paying for the presentation which I found it worth it because I love pineapple so it was like an added treat. Ambiance: Lively and very social. The way the establishment is structured makes a casual conversation sound louder. Cleanliness: It was okay but there could be an improvement. They were very busy when I dined with them and they were trying to keep up as much as they could. Taste: Flavorful and so many seafood options. Service: Our waiter was very attentive and proud us a complimentary appetizer since our food was taking longer than expected. I definitely appreciate her being proactive in this aspect. Overall: A one of its kind in PHX and truly an authentic Mexican seafood restaurant. Staff is proactive in their approach to service. Ummmm. The food was okay, the Camarón de ajo, was definitely not it. I paid for 8 shrimps, a whole bowl of butter, and bell peppers. The rice was over cooked and flavorless. Even with salt and pepper. I enjoyed the tostadas de ceviche, and the flavored horchata. That's about it. Everything else was super expensive with small portions. The tables are so squished together. A gf brought me here precovid. She claimed it was the best shrimp cocktail, she'd obviously never had mine. It was extremely busy the takes were nestled closely and I suppose overall ai was a bit uncomfortable. The shrimp cocktail was good but truth is, I haven't been back. We found this place completely by accident and truly enjoyed the experience. As you enter into the restaurant, the interior is colorful and beautiful. We were greeted by the great staff and sat down immediately. We were lucky enough to get there before the lunch crowd started coming in and boy did they come in. Our waitress stopped by and gave us a ceviche tostada as a complimentary appetizer. It was delicious. We ordered two margaritas and if you were a fan like we are, these were deliciously good!! I ordered a paella like dish with incredible flavors. Be advised the dish easily feeds 2 people - or 3 - 4 as an appetizer. My husband ordered his shrimp with Diablo sauce, which was pretty spicy, but you couldn't stop eating it. In Spanish, we say Sabroso!!!! Every single dish coming out of the kitchen was presented beautifully. There are some amazing combinations, all focused on seafood. We kept asking our waitress "what is that??" I suspect most of the clientele were regulars. With such an extensive menu they were pretty quick to order and dishes they chose looked mouthwatering. It was well worth the price we paid and yes, we did have a second margarita! One thing you should ask is how spicy the dish is to make sure you're not getting something that may be too hot for you. If they are unable to make it less spicy, they are more than happy to make other suggestions. For us this is definitely the place to stop at when we are in that area. read more
The food was amazing! Everything was super delish! The ambiance was very clean and loved the decore. The service was excellent. The only thing that I didn't like was how they charge 3% credit card fee. The price of the food is already on the pricey side that it should've covered that 3%. We asked for pico de gallo salsa and it was a $3. For a person to come back more often, the credit card fee needs to go. This place would be a great go to authentic Mexican mariscos. I'm a tourist so it will be a 1 time experience for me here unless I'm in town. read more

What a great meal! Our server was great with perfect recommendations, even remembering I casually mentioned liking something spicy and cautioning that the first cocktail I asked for was very sweet. The green culichi sauce that some of the dishes come in was delicious. Savory but light and not too tart. Everything was cooked just right, including perfectly soft corn and flour tortillas, and crispy tortilla chips. The outdoor patio was great for a warm and sunny afternoon. We were in town for 24 hours and this place was recommended by a worker at the airport. And he did not disappoint. First off the atmosphere was amazing. They had several big screen tvs to watch sports. The music was fantastic. The food and service was amazing. The entire staff was kind and helpful no matter of it was their table or not. I had the crane asada plate and my father had the Camerones rancheros. He wanted to go back the filling day but we had a flight to catch. 5 stars all around! read more
While visiting Phoenix, some friends recommended we meet them at Mariscos Playa Hermosa. We didn't make a reservation in advance, but the wait was only around 20 mins. We sat outside in the patio which was perfect with the shaded umbrellas & misters. The food & drinks were absolutely delicious! We started off with a complimentary tostada with fish and some chips with salsa. You can tell a place is going to have amazing food just based on the salsa alone. As a main dish I had the tostada embarazada. It was stuffed with shrimp, avocado, fish & a tasty sauce. Everything was so fresh & the portions were huge. I couldn't even finish. My michelada was amazing as well. The perfect amount of spice. I will for sure be back again next time I'm in town. A seafood lovers dream. read more

Ok hear me out... this place is THE place for mariscos (seafood). This place has been around since 2002. I've been here a couple of times before the pandemic and their food has the same quality and sazón as I remember. Tonight my husband and I had dinner here. There was a wait and they told us it would be 30 minutes before we could get a table. However they called us for our table within 10 minutes. The restaurant was packed! First thing I noticed is the manager and all the wait staff were hustling. They all had high energy and were extremely friendly and accommodating. We started off with a Jamaica agua fresca and an Horchata. Both delicious. Not too sweet... tasted just right. The chips are house made and the salsas are a perfect level of spicy. The server brought out some fish ceviche tostadas (compliments of the house) the tostada was a perfect and refreshing appetizer. We also ordered the Choriqueso dip. The chorizo was perfectly cooked and the cheese really complimented the chorizo. I ordered Camarones al mojo de ajo with rice, beans and a side salad. My husband ordered the Mojara frita with rice, beans and a side salad. The main dishes took a while to come out but again... the restaurant was PACKED! So honestly we didn't mind. The Mojara was perfectly seasoned, cooked and crispy. The shrimp was good but I was hoping for a more garlicky flavor. All in all the food was... chef's kiss. The place is so packed and very noisy to the point where you can't hear the music but I didn't go there for the music. I went for the food and it did not disappoint. Our server was on her A game constantly checking on us and updating us on our food. This place really brings back memories of my aunt's restaurant by the beach in Playa azul. The quality of the seafood and the fact that their chips and salsas are so fresh... if I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Definitely a 10/10 place. I was expecting a long wait but we went in the middle of the week around 4:30 and were seated immediately The attention to detail and our server were top notch. Our server was very attentive and excitedly walked us through the menu. He guided us on frequently ordered items and house favorites. The pineapple drink was absolutely delicious. If you want to feel like you're on a beach enjoying a wonderful beach cocktail this is the drink for you. As an added bonus you get pineapple slices to enjoy and snack on as you wait for you meal. The shrimp was wonderful. The plate presentation was beautiful and the flavor was very appetizing. Be prepared to get a little messy as you crack your shrimp and dip away. We also ordered the red snapper. This fish could seriously feed about 3-5 people. With all the additional sides that come with the fish you will find yourself completely satisfied. The fish was cooked and fried to perfection. This dish is bursting with flavor. Make sure to ask for the house sauce on the side as the truth is the fish doesn't need anything. We've been driving by this small place for years, never once considering stopping in however, tonight we tried it and we are so sad that we've been missing this great place from our lives. The environment is bright and loud. The decor is colour overload, the music is loud, TV screens are big, but it's the best experience ever! But let's get to the most important part: chairs. These chairs can hold large and wide bodies like mine. Chair height is exceptional, seat width is amazing. I never felt safer sitting in a chair (jk). Check out my pics as proof. Now, the food. The complimentary chips and salsa were okay. I love that the chips were not salty and quite thick. However, the salsas, both green and red, were too spicy for me. I consider myself a middleweight spice level person but these hurt! We started with the seafood tower - three round tin trays of assorted shellfish seated in ice and covered with a spicy salsa. The bottom tin contains cooked shrimp atop cucumber, also raw shrimp and steamed oysters. The second tin contains head on shrimp that's been steamed to perfection! There are also a few pieces of boiled shrimp here but its's mostly the steamed shrimp. Lastly the top tin contains crab legs and cooked mussels. I felt the crab legs were too small for all that shell cracking so I passed them up and concentrated on the contents on the second and third levels. The food is covered with two spicy salsas that were uncomfortably spicy. I had to wipe it off in order to "taste" the food. But again, everyone's spice level is different. Next we tried the beef fajitas. Well seasoned meat and plenty of it. The accompanying rice and beans complimented everything perfectly. All in all, this is a great place for summer dining because the interior is cool, you can order great non alcoholic drinks and just sit back and be waited on by a great group of staff. read more

I heard about this spot thru a passenger at the airport. The mother told me her daughter- a taco snob- was blown away by their fish tacos! So. Same day- I came for the fish tacos. I called the order in, went and picked it up. Got it home and was truly, utterly surprised. The first weird thing was the rice. It was white. Also it had a frozen bag of vegetable medley in it. Strange! Not my best rice experience. Beans? Nothing smashed. Just regular schmegular beans. All in all- I wasn't wowed, but I want totally turned off either. I'll try it again read more
One of the best Marisquería Mexicanas!!! The best "7 seas Soup" that I've ever had!! My friend's Michelada looked so tasty and the shrimps around the Michelada were so delicious! Great atmosphere and the ladies were so nice! Definitely a must try if you're in Phoenix. read more

Be warned if you get a plate your unhappy with they will not remove it off you bill. You will pay the full amount. Experience: ordered agua chiles a trio plate to obviously try the different versions. The plate came with extremely UNDERCOOKED BASICALLY RAW shrimps and due note agua chiles to a degree are raw shrimps which is why the plate was not sent back immediately. After eating 2 shrimps and not being able to hold down the 3rd shrimp we had to send it back the amount of rawness that these shrimps were at was another level basically you were going to end up sick if you continued or just straight vomited it you continued. So the best choice was just to remove the plate so we told the server. He did offer to give another plate but we were strapped for time. So we just opted to not get anything. The thought of eating anything else didn't sound appetizing anyways after eating that raw shrimp. When we asked for the check the plate remained on the list. We told the serve and his response was " you already touched the plate" This is completely terrible BAD customer service. Obviously not his choice the management made this decision. So for warning if the food just looks bad don't touch it I guess.... Because you'll still be charged. And just send it back immediately ..... This review has 1 star just so people can see this experience and incase you have this happen to you there you know what to expect. Just send food back if it doesn't look good or right I guess. The agua chiles are not the way to go. Unfortunately this experience has lost our service for some time and if ever. read more
