The staff were very friendly, and it was very easy to make a reservation. The ambiance was very nice and the space was very clean. We didn't enjoy the food, unfortunately. I had the filet-mignon and my wife had the roasted chicken. The steak had a great texture, but the flavor was not as great as it could have been. My wife's steak was dry and not flavorful. Great ocean view with a subtly unique menu that was delicious. I split the crab cake burger (Soggy bottom bun) and calamari ban mai (absolutely delicious) and the fries were crispy and delicious. wine list was limited by the glass and the Rose was so so but we were comfortable sitting in the window under the heat lamp watching the stormy winter skies. Honestly, way overpriced and flavorless food. To be fair, I never ordered any of the expensive entrees, just the appetizers, but even those are around $20. The fish tacos I got were OK (I'm really not a very picky eater), but the "fish" was basically just a large fish stick in each taco, which I kind of expected better from such high-end dining. My wife, who loves squid and octopus, ordered the calamari and ended up throwing it away near the end because it was so flavorless. I didn't try the entrees. Ate take out food here while staying during COVID. The food was great and very reasonably priced! Drinks were amazing. Wonderful local wines by the glass and local beers. You can really tell that the employees care about the experience they provide. The atmosphere for dine in is great as well, although I didn't partake due to having two young kids. Marisol is the the place you are waiting for - no gimmicks, good food, panoramic views of the ocean, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Marisol for a good dinner if you are in town and hungry. Upon arrival my wife and I were greeted with a beautiful view of the ocean and a nice looking restaurant. We were seated outside looking at the ocean with a nice heater next to us. The food was delicious and the drinks were as well. We celebrated our 14 year anniversary and they brought up a dessert on the house. Um , how difficult is it to order a cup of tea .? First I had a heck of a time being seated with my quiet little dog , ( the place was quite empty ,) then I was seated by the hostess in the direct sun , then I asked an elusive waiter if I could move to a shaded table , ordered a cup of tea and waited nearly twenty minutes for it . Then when I wanted additional hot water I once again had to flag down a server . I am actually sitting here wondering if I'm invisible as not a single server or general staff has even looked in my direction let alone inquire if I might like something. Does the management here just hire anyone who walks in the door , give them a uniform and rely on their total absence of training or even common sense to justify their minimum wage ? The only reason I gave Marisol two stars is for the lovely view of the Pacific Ocean . When a hotel charges as much as The Cliffs one would imagine they'd offer some basic training to their wait staff . Ridiculous. read more

LOVE this place. I was pleased that even though they were very busy and what appeared to be short on staff, they were all very kind and patient. We had great service and a friendly encounter day-in and day-out and the food + drinks are amazing -- must try the Nachos, French toast and their pineapple Palomas. Also the kids in our group loved the chicken tenders and fries. They also provide the room service for The Cliffs and I must say I was very impressed with every dish and every drink we had. Went to brunch this morning with my husband, dog, mother in law and infant daughter. The host was fantastic and we got seated very quickly. When we got to the table it took a while for the waitress to come by. When she did we ordered our drinks and food at the same time, the waitress also said she would bring a fruit cup for my daughter and a water bowl for the dog. So we wait and wait and wonder where our drinks are at least. Finally, my mother in law takes my daughter and walks around to entertain her and sees our waitress sitting inside chatting with someone. She reminded her that we could really use our drinks. By the time she got back to our table the food was arriving and shortly after that our drinks arrive. We have to remind the waitress about the fruit cup and the dog water. Now we get to our food, it's cold. My food has a film on it from when it was cut and had time to cool off. The nacho cheese is cold and the Eggs Benedict are cold. Frankly, it took so long to get the main course we didn't order dessert or coffee, we ate, paid the bill and just left. Marisol Restaurant has gone straight downhill since Manager David and Pastry Chef Hannah left. The very nice ambiance, ocean view, and excellent service by waitperson Miriam on Mother's Day on 5/8/22 did not do much to save the experience. The food was poor. It's hard to imagine that an experienced chef is at the helm any longer. I had the chicken entrée which was a HOT dish with lemon butter caper sauce on couscous salad with artichoke hearts, tomato, basil, and olive. Unfortunately I did not notice the word "salad" in the dish's description. Why would any chef put a hot chicken entrée in a hot sauce on top of what turned out to be ICE COLD couscous? We asked to speak to the chef or manager. Stephanie Hamilton, who referred to herself as "one of the managers" is not skilled at handling guests who are unhappy. She probably was trained at McDonald's or Subway. My friend had the halibut crusted with pistachio and pesto which was placed on the same ICE COLD couscous salad that my hot chicken entrée was served on. My friend said the halibut was tough. Tough and ice cold - REALLY? On the menu it says the menu was created and prepared by chef Ashley Black and Pastry Chef Derek Brown. In reviewing the menu we thought there were three separate desserts to chose from. But it turned out to be three fruit-based desserts on small plate - all tasting about the same. read more

I would consider us "regulars" since we eat here a good once or twice a month. Day before yesterday we were saddened that they took the lettuce wraps off the menu. It was a favorite for us. Maybe we were the only ones that ordered it lol. Didn't stop us from ordering a glass of rosé, enjoying the view and contemplating the new menu. We settled on the flatbread pizzas. This is an update to my previous review with 5 stars. The views are still spectacular, the service is still excellent. The menu has changed. Today our meal missed the mark. We started with salmon puffs. I don't remember the exact name, but it's on the appetizer section. I was expecting a crusty light puff pastry with a salmon mixture inside. It is actually a refrigerated cream puff bread with a runny salmon mixture inside. There is not enough of the salmon mixture to balance the bread. It was ok, but not good enough to order again. Next we had the ahi Tuna tacos. These flavors were wonderfully balanced. Crunchy Apple, guacamole all made this dish good. However, the extra thick tortilla overwhelmed the flavors. The chef and I have obvious taste differences. They added more tables in the past few months and it's pretty crowded outside especially since the servers have to work around both patio heaters and umbrellas. One server attempted to use a different door than the one everyone else was using and she almost knocked over a heater. The other door that all the servers were using kept knocking into our umbrella and at one point as they were seating a group, someone opened the door too far and the umbrella closed on a person and grazed me on the head as well. We will of course go back. It really is a nice dining experience or it was. The servers are very nice. We will just have to choose different menu choices. Let's start with positivity first and foremost. The food and location- yum! The hosts and wait staff are amazing and super friendly! Yes, you may have to wait a bit for them to get to you but it's because they seem to be short staffed. We had our wedding at The Cliffs back in August and had our rehearsal on a Thursday. We have stayed at The Cliffs before and have eaten here quite a few times and told our wedding guests that their food was great! After the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner (not at Marisol as they won't accommodate a rehearsal dinner), we went to the Marisol around 8pm to have some drinks and catch up with friends and family at the open seating bar (the thing you usually do on a wedding/getaway weekend). We were also so excited to have their nachos because they are delish! A few of our group (about 20 people) were already there waiting for us to arrive around 8pm. Once we walked in, they cheered and clapped for us since of course we were getting married the next day. The bartenders seemed annoyed and covered their ears. The cheering stopped and we ordered our drinks. A few minutes later the manager approached us and said for a group that big, we need to order drinks from a waiter. No problem! We can of course accommodate that! 15-20min goes by...no waiter so we naturally go back up to the bar to order drinks. We had about 20 people in the bar area who are talking amongst themselves, catching up with friends and family so the noise level would be equivalent to if the bar was full with normal patrons. 10min later, the manager comes back and says we are blocking the fire lane so we moved some of our guests who were standing at the bar to the table area...again no problem! She comes back a third time and says if we don't "get our crowd under control", we will be kicked out. Not like we were dancing on tables or throwing glasses around and being belligerent. The GM shows up and tells us "this is a restaurant NOT a bar" and accuses the bride of "cussing her out" when we were just trying to have a conversation with her and make sure we were being considerate...He then proceeds to call our wedding coordinator who is affiliated with The Cliffs and threatens to call the cops and cancel our wedding. Our coordinator vouched for us and said we weren't those type of people. We even spoke to a few customers that were in the bar to make sure we weren't bothering them and they had no problem with us celebrating our wedding eve. It's unfortunate that the Marisol is the only restaurant and "bar" that The Cliffs has. We made sure the bartenders got great tips even when the GM told us "we don't care about the money." Mind you, they never called the cops, never cancelled our wedding and never kicked us out after we spoke with the GM. Seemed like they just wanted to flex their muscles but never in my life have I ever been threatened like that. We ended up taking our business down the road at The Lido for the remaining 3 nights we were there and they had no problem with us visiting with each other. So my advise is if you are staying at The Cliffs, don't expect to bring your celebration to the Marisol. read more

Amazing food, amazing view. We were seated quickly and got to watch the sunset over the ocean while eating delicious food. Fried calamari was light and crispy, and gluten free, which was a plus for us. We also had the fried fish tacos (also GF). Their clam chowder was the best I've ever tasted, flavorful with just a little crunch of celery. Our waitress was also cheerful, friendly and attentive. Everyone there seemed to be in a good mood;). Honestly, not sure of any corrective action was taken...Adriana still had the nerve to "debate" the difference between a cappuccino and a latte right in front of the manager. I know it's not a coffee shop but I definitely don't appreciate the lack of customer service, let alone, receiving attitude from a young inexperienced server at a higher end restaurant and having to pay $10 for a to go coffee. The roll was lightly toasted and that's the best I could say. The meat was sparse and mostly scraps. There was not a discernible slice of meat. The dip had zero flavor. Outstanding Customer Service!!!!! We recently stayed at The Cliffs hotel after finding out they are dog friendly. Came to Marisol again as we had only visited once for lunch. Being off season, we knew the dog friendly patio was where we needed to be, so we brought extra jackets and headed over. AJ was the server that greeted us and got us all set up with extra heaters. He was warm, outgoing and so accommodating to all of our asks in regards to where we sat and the menu. We appreciated that he understood what we needed and he went out of his way to make sure all of us were taken care of. Later he introduced us to Ian as our server who helped us by the fire pits that we were able to enjoy after our meal. Ian too was so attentive to our needs, especially with the temperatures dropping quickly. We enjoyed our first experience so much - we met Tammy who was the Manager there. We couldn't say enough to her about how outstanding AJ and Ian had been. Tammy too was so appreciative of our feedback and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. This experience kicked off our vacation perfectly and made our night! The second night we came here - Ian, AJ and Tammy saw us and came over to say hi and see how our trip was going. They truly made us feel like family. We really appreciate the time they took to get to know us. We enjoyed two nights here and had the great dishes of Filet with flavorful risotto, the salmon with cauliflower rice, ceviche with crunchy fresh made tortilla chips and the Waygu burger. They even have a dog menu if you ask for it! We plan to come back to Pismo again soon and whenever we do - Marisol us certainly a place we plan to continue to enjoy for years to come. I recently stayed at The Cliffs Hotel & Spa and dined at their restaurant, Marisol while there. During my stay,​ I had dinner, breakfast​, ​and happy hour bites. I loved the summer stone fruits menu with the grilled peaches and burrata; it was definitely a taste of summer. My bacon wrapped filet was cooked to the perfect temperature. For breakfast,​ I tried one of their house-made juice blends with carrot, orange, and tumeric. I love the fresh juice options. The very best thing I ate during my visit was the Sesame- Seared Ahi! I ate every single morsel on the plate and nearly licked the plate clean, it was THAT good!! Chef Jaime and his team nailed every dish I ordered. Eric, the manager, is friendly and all of the staff was super nice and accommodating​. Not to mention Marisol has amazing views of the ocean! It's a great place to dine and watch the sunset. We made a reservation for this restaurant for Easter Sunday and received a call only a couple days before that somehow our reservation "snuck in" and they were only allowing large parties (we had 7 people) at their Easter brunch event, not this restaurant. And of course, the Easter brunch event was $65 per person. We told them we didn't want to pay that much and that we would not be able to get a reservation elsewhere due to the late notice. I understand we requested to be seated outside and it was a chilly night (~ 45 degrees F), but that was because the restaurant advertised they served outside and when we called to see if that was the case they confirmed. We had our dog with us and Covid omicron is spreading. The positives about our experience: - They let us walk to our table outside with our dog through the restaurant. - Heating lamps were amazing. We were very warm on a chilly night. - Even though our server only showed up at the beginning and the end, there were people who we could ask for simple things like pepper. - Our main dishes were pretty good and served very warm.. The negatives: - Our server never came to check on us at any time. If it's too cold outside don't offer to serve out there. - Caesar salad was disgusting. Mayonnaise heavy dressing. Lettuce had many brown ends on it meaning it was stale. Didn't taste good either. - Some fresh ground pepper would have been nice on our appetizer but unfortunately nobody to ask how it was. - Quality of food was just ok. - Prices were outrageous - atmosphere not what they make it out to be read more

As a part of our stay at the Cliffs Resort we also booked the breakfast which was $7 per person. The restaurant is conveniently located next door and has outdoor seating overlooking the resort pool area and ocean front. We noticed most people were seated inside but we wanted to get as much sea and sun since we were on vacation. The buffet area wasn't very large but there was a cook making omelets and eggs to order. There were steam trays with potatoes, bacon, sausage, and hot cinnamon buns. Over on the side were healthier options like fresh sliced citrus, strawberries, cottage cheese and oatmeal. I think there was certainly enough options for most eaters. We enjoyed everything we ate and breakfast included OJ and coffee. The servers were also really attentive and came to check on us twice even though we were the only table seated outside. Overall it was a great price for a quality breakfast with a beautiful view of the pacific ocean. read more
