Don't get me wrong, we like the nice places too, but sometimes you just want a relaxing FUN atmosphere without all the Wine Snobs and this is the place. We had lunch in downtown & decided to stay parked and explore, across from Oxbow Market, we stumbled upon Mark Harold & we both enjoyed Flux in previous purchases from wine stores, but never made it to the tasting room. Are we glad we did. We were taken care of by Mike, who was very knowledgeable about wines & once he found out what we liked, we tasted a few off the list. Really fun place to visit... it was our last stop before heading to the airport so we had to rush a little bit, but next time we'll go back when we can taste at a less-hurried pace. My wife and I agreed that the 2011 Collide was our favorite - very drinkable red - but I also liked the 2009 Acha, which was heavy on the Tempranillo. It started with a bite but settled into a very mellow finish. The staff was great, and they played a good mix of 80s and 90s music while we were there. This is by far, the best, most exciting tasting room in Napa. First and foremost, the vibe of the place is awesome as are the people that work there. Fun, funky art graces the walls and they are very inviting, not stuffy and pretentious like so many others. Now about the wines. I am in love with everything they produce, and the prices are unbeatable in Napa or anywhere else! Elegant whites for $20. a Delicious Rose for $16 and big reds that can easily stand up to the fussiest of Napa Cab drinkers at only at $30. What's not to love! Hands down the most fun tasting I've ever done, and living in Sonoma and being a huge wine nerd I've been to more tasting rooms than I care to admit. Mike and Dean are the most entertaining, passionate, and funny tasting room guys in Napa. The vibe is laid back, quirky, and irreverent. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere else, and guess what? The wines are killer and very reasonably priced. Light Spanish and Rhone whites that are totally porch, patio, and pool poundable, great red blends and tempranillo, and some absolutely delicious cabernet. They're conveniently right next to the Oxbow Market, making this a super easy lunch and tasting spot, right off downtown Napa. Tastings are $25 (waived with 3 bottle purchase per person) and are easily worth it. Add the "sexual chocolate" chocolate pairing for a party in your mouth. (psssst, industry folks... they have an industry wine club. I don't ever join wine clubs because it doesn't really make sense if you live here and work in the business. Join the industry club and you get some bonuses beyond the usual discount. And kick it with the rad tasting room crew when you pick up your shipments!) read more

In our 4 days in Napa, this was the most fun we had at a tasting. We were recommended by Karen from the place we were staying, The Inn on Randolph. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and treated like one of them (you'll see when you meet these awesome people). We were recommended to try the wine and chocolate pairing. There seriously aren't enough words to describe how terrible our experience with Mark Herold wines has been, except to say it's been the single worst experience as a customer I have ever had. The timeline is as follows: 1) May 2015. we had a fantastic experience in the tasting room. I buy my wife a wine subscription for Mother's Day. Immediately after, I update our address to our new home, in a new state. I double and triple check to make sure our new address is right because I've never subscribed to a wine club before and, as a SPED teacher, I'm not rolling in dough. 2) we do not receive our initial shipment before moving. We then do not receive our second shipment after moving. We contact Mark Herold wines and they say "it's fixed!" We await our wine. 3) august/September 2015. we do not get our wine. Turns out it's being sent to our old address, despite me having changed it. We call Herold wines and they say sorry, that they changed websites and theres no record of the new address. they give us some wine gratis, they ship it to our new address. Via email and via phone there are multiple comments I make about cancelling the subscription. The person helping me acknowledges that I want to cancel. 4) fall 2016. we are charged again. We say no thank you, I call and say I want a refund and a cancellation. We talk to someone who is unbelievably unhelpful, refusing to accept us saying we want to cancel over the phone and saying there's no way we're getting our money back. She says we have to cancel via email. We refuse the wine shipment. 5) I send a very lengthy email via their website customer service page outlining how upset we are and how horribly we've been treated. I say very explicitly id like to cancel the subscription and that we deserve our money back. 6) today, 2/3/17 we receive notice that WE ARE BEING BILLED FOR A NEW SHIPMENT. I plan on calling the Napa chamber of commerce, city hall, whoever I can talk to about how completely horrible our experience with Mark Herold wines has been. There is absolutely no excuse for how hard it has been to cancel a subscription. I hope whoever manages their yelp account gets this and can help make things right. read more

We still love Mark Herrold. Their wines are absolutely incredible. We joined the wine club. I do have to say that it seems there has been a sea change in hiring. Losing Eric seems to have been a real loss for the tasting room. You can tell by the reviews. To be honest, we joined because we love the wine and we loved the quirky personalities when we first started coming in when the tasting room first opened. I'd definitely try to get those quirky yet refined personalities back in there! We went to the reserve room and really liked the woman running that side! Don't miss this spot! This tasting room offers something that is so unique and contemporary among a lot of tasting rooms and vineyards that are steeped in tradition. The atmosphere is fun and almost "hipster"--definitely a breathe of fresh air into wine country that is largely dominated by more traditional wine makers. My husband and I enjoyed the wine tasting along with the "sexy time" chocolate tasting. Dean was AMAZING and when I shied away from the chocolate tasting, he offered to comp the wine tasting in lieu of the chocolate tasting. We loved it, and this totally elevated our experience to a new level. I definitely see this tasting room as the place for younger and new wine lovers. Their product is high quality, yet it does not feel the need to conform to the expected styles of wine. You will be surprised and impressed by unique and delicious blends. From beginning to to end we thoroughly enjoy our tasting experience. We are folks who come to Napa quite often and are particular about where we spend our time. We were professionally greeted and the tasting started promptly. Being familiar with many different varietals we were excited to see we could taste the Cabs Mark is known for but also some other non traditional Napa wines. We get that our host knew the back story of the brand and was fully versed in the wines themselves. We weren't the only folks in the tasting room and our host was able to juggle our party and another. She kept track of where everyone in our party was in the progression. We ended up buying wine and joining the club. We will be back and will definitely recommend this tasting room to friends and colleagues. read more

This is probably one of the coolest tasting rooms in Napa. The quirky, industrial chic motif is a pleasant change from all of the relatively unremarkable spaces of the other tasting rooms around town. The tasting staff were really nice and we ended up buying a couple bottles from them which waived our tasting fees. This place is very neat with chess and many wine books inside. It was uniquely decorated. The gadget the serve used to pour some of the wine was also very interesting. Anyhow, you get a full tasting of everything they had on the menu, and surprisingly, I didn't really enjoy any of them. I mean the wines weren't bad, but they didn't suit my taste. We stopped in on a recommendation by our inn. We were met by Mike in a relaxed atmosphere and we decided to try the wine with the chocolate pairings. Awesome choice! We felt like old friends soon enough and never felt rushed. We had some great wines and stayed for some time, trying some of the reserve wines. The chocolate pairings were great and are highly recommended. We even bought a bottle of wine that cost more than we normally would have spent but it was an impressive red (2012 Uproar). The decor is quite interesting-it's so nice that new wineries are eschewing the traditional and staid way of doing things. Art by a local artist, assorted reading materials are provided, the pourers are friendly and fun, and most importantly-good, drinkable wine floweth! I love reds and ended up buying a glass of the 2013 Uproar which was delish! The staff let us sit and hangout. When I visited it was uncrowded and most importantly, unpretentious and also not a hard-sell for the wine club (as can happen at some tasting rooms). A fabulous tasting room with some very affordable and some limited quantity higher priced wines, all scrumptious and very tempting for the $100+ price. But you can walk out with a bottle for $16! Their "church wine" is made for a local church and also sold under their label as a dessert wine!
