This past Sunday, was out with a group of friends planning on enjoying a pre-concert dinner. We made reservations with enough time to make a train to Penn Station. We informed our waiter of our plans and his only concern was the timing of dessert for the price fixe menu. We were good with packing up the dessert. From there the service just snowballed down hill, it took 20 minutes to get soup and cold salads, we reminded our waiter of our time constraint. He said he told the kitchen, well I guess the kitchen doesn't understand we need to make a train. Food was coming out of the kitchen to tables that had been seated after my party, the food finally arrived with 6 mins before we needed to leave. Half the plates were cold, the medium hamburger was blood red rare, and we all had indigestion on the train. When spoke to the manager all she could do was deflect and blame us for not informing the restaurant of our plans. Which was a bold face lie. If you want to be the neighborhood go to place you need to accommodate your clients. An apology would have been nice. I knew we would eventually get back to Market Bistro for dinner- there's only so long before the mad Russian gets the hankering for some good tuna tartar. Before going out to check out some jazz in hicksville, we chose to come back to this restaurant- partly from its proximity to the jazz night and partly to that delicious tartar that she was itching for. We were seated right away even tho we were a good fifteen minutes early- a plus in my book. The restaurant was packed as was the bar, our preferred seating arrangement for all but the most romantic meals. Tables of varying capacities make for a full dining room, and the noise level matches the abundance of tables. Aside from the really excellent tuna tartar, we also tried the chilled calamari salad that was better than average. I usually prefer the have larger strips or rings of calamari, but it was still good. Also on the agenda were the mussels and the lamb sliders- Plump meaty mussels served hot are hard to beat. As for the sliders, my only complaint was that there were not two more that would accompany the pair that came. And because I couldn't get enough, I had Duck gnocci to finish. All of the food was excellent and you finish this up with good service, good martinis, riesling and a last minute cup of coffee, and you have a really nice meal. Complete waste of time. If I could leave no stars I would. The customer service and wait staff (including the pompous owner) will lead to the failure of this establishment. It's a shame because this place SHOULD have great potential based on its farm to table ideology however it is evident that it is simply a matter of time that this place will be another failing restaurant in the area. Food may be arguably decent but the consistent lack of customer service and rude staff leaves a bitter taste in your mouth sour enough to ruin the entire experience. Came here on a Friday night during restaurant week - This place was on my radar screen since it first hit the scene, (when I worked in the area) and I found myself back in that "neck of the woods" for an early dinner before a comedy show at Westbury and I can give it a solid 3.5 stars. (so wish Yelp would work on that already!!) ---food a 5, the rest - you decide... While the food was delicious and the craft beer selection was desirable, this place doesn't start getting into the limelight until about 7... too bad my reservation was for 6pm, and hubs & I were sat directly across from the bar in a way too small table for 2. Appetizers were served and I was glad to be back in the area, finally - the food is innovative and delightful - I'm still thinking of that Butternut Squash soup (YUM) but as the night progressed and the hostess stand got more and more requests, so did the backs of people, right at "fart-range at eye level" who hovered over our table like hawks. By the time I was done with my delicious entree, I was wondering if the guy over me was going to grab a piece of my steak. Unfortunately, it didn't get better come dessert time, and we now had a group of 4 mid-aged adults carrying on and on to the point where the table was shaking since they (and their fart-range level butts) were leaning on the railing!! I'm sorry, but I didn't come here to get farted on, or even should have to worry about it. The place is small, I get it... but I would think having tables not on top of each other, (when wait/bus staff have to give entrees/clear plates from over the railing, this is a problem!!) maybe a better waiting area or better barrier between bar and table area (especially for those deuces along the bar) I wouldn't be writing this. We liked this place a lot. We loved the decor and the food was very good. We had the avacado and bean dip and the meatballs. Both were delicious. As our entree we had the lamb chops and pork osso buco. they were both delicious..the pork fell right off the bone as it should. Lamb chops were cooked just right. Came here tonight & had an enjoyable experience with a few of my loved ones. Seating: Plentiful! Outdoor/Indoor seating available. On a cool, breezy night like today, outdoor seating would have been perfect. We sat inside, however, they left the doors open so the breeze was welcome, and the front area of the store is mainly glass so the two areas feel connected - helps to really meld the ambience of both. Service: Can't complain! Our waiter was available, attentive, & knowledgable about the menu. A few other waiters were constantly coming around to refill our waters, which is actually a very underrated and highly desired service amongst customers. Decor: The crown jewel, I would say even over the food! The overall atmosphere was quaint & welcoming, yet immaculate & detailed-oriented. The flower-touting mason jars were pleasant. The lighting was dim but the combination of the light from both inside and outside the restaurant really made the experience that more enjoyable. It's a good sign when you can take a picture of your food without flash, but its still not a good picture. You can look around and everything is distinguishable, yet its not cheaply over-lit. Food: Pricey. Honestly? Overpriced. Not because of quality though... quality & taste are two different sides of the same coin. Quality was great. I had the NY Strip Steak, cooked medium-rare, to perfection. Seared beautifully. Meat was tender, doesn't give your jaw much trouble. Again the quality was great, but the flavor was lacking. It came topped with some herb-butter, which didn't really do much for the meat. If anything it acted as a light glaze, but couldn't really do much to enhance the lack of flavor. The steak also comes with a ridiculous amount of fries, which aren't anything special. I did appreciate (because they were thinly-cut fries) that they weren't burnt into chips and also not flimsy and undercooked. But overall, nothing special. Not your average, chain restaurant steak.. the cut was nice.. but the flavor was mediocre. Dessert: You don't get harmony when everyone is singing the same note. I had to share this profound, fortune-cookie-like wisdom in order to describe the desserts here: harmonious. The bread pudding and strawberry rhubarb cobbler were different desserts with different flavors but both changed my life for the same reason: the flavors perfectly complimented each other. The strawberry rhubarb cobbler was almost like a deconstructed strawberry ice cream: a bite with the warm, tart strawberry and the cool vanilla ice cream really acted as one, rather than two separate entities. A beautiful marriage. And the bread pudding followed suit: the warm, toasted, flavorful bread pudding paired perfectly with the cold, melting peanut-butter ice cream. That texture pairing is just amazing. It's like North & South Korea signing a peace treaty in your mouth. If you actually read this far into my review, it just became worth it, because I just informed you that this place serves peanut-butter ice cream (you're welcome). Some places are good because the food. Others because its an experience just to visit. Market Bistro is not the in-between choice; its the all-around choice. The food is good, and the price is justified by the lovely conversations you are able to have due to the quaint yet elegant ambience. If you're coming for the best meal of your life, look elsewhere. I had a reservation here for a Friday night for 2. The res was for 8:00 P.M. We arrived around ten to eight. There were tables for two open. We waited for forty minutes. FORTY MINUTES. Let that sink in. Then think about if you want to go there. We waited it out, and that's our fault. But, you know how it is: you want to try a place, the hostess says it'll be a few minutes past your reservation time, and the place is crowded and popular, so, you go with it. You're cool. And by the time let's say, oh, twenty minutes have passed, well, you're invested. You've spent time here. Time that has sucked, but time nonetheless, and now you're swirling in the restaurant vortex of, "if we leave, where will we go? Prime time on a Friday? In Jericho? Where there aren't many great places to get a bite?", plus you have that kind of grim sense of, "let's just see how bad this can get," while hoping, secretly, and beyond all reason, that it will get better. It didn't. And the food wasn't worth it, either. By the time the hostess, who we had patiently reminded several times of our presence (not that she could miss us, we were standing next to her podium the whole time) seated us, with an apology, but I didn't care about that at that point, it was at a table that had been unoccupied for at least fifteen minutes. LIke I said before, there were other tables for two open around the dining room. The restaurant was crowded, and the only reason I could think of for the hostess not seating us sooner was that she didn't want to "slam" (restaurant speak for seating too many tables in a single servers' section) anyone, but, forty minutes past a res time? Inexcusable. My friend had steak, I had a burger. My friend said the steak was fine; my burger was not. I don't order burgers often, and so when it arrived and I started eating it, I wondered exactly what was wrong with it; it was overcooked (medium well instead of medium rare so...yeah. But it had been too long of a wait for me to send it back, and I ate about half of it), but, there was this...dryness to it. And then I realized: it's just a burger with a bun. No lettuce, no tomato, no cheese (which I guess is fair, because the menu didn't indicate it was a cheeseburger, but it also didn't include the option for cheese, which, had it done so, I would have ordered a slice), no onions. Just, a burger. With a bun. WEIRD, right? The fries were pretty good, and they saved this place from a one star. I like good french fries. The service was weird; the waitress was not friendly, and she was gone for long periods of time. Market Bistro is very eh in my book. I will not make it a point to go back. read more

Upset that I just recently discovered this place. The food is unique, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I don't know many other places you can get Venison in Long Island. I ordered the lamb ragu which had olives, goat cheese, and roasted tomatoes. Delicious and full of great flavors. Had duck gnocchi as well which was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had their bread pudding (don't remember everything in it, but it was a perfect balance of sweet savory). After reading the reviews here, I came here for dinner with a friend. When we went inside, the host was busy talking on the phone. I wasn't too sure whether there was another area to go or if I had to wait for the host to finish talking on the phone...I had to to wait for the host. I wasn't amused. We sat down, I ordered grits & cheddar tots, mb caesar salad and dry rubbed murray's wings. Food is excellent. The wings, my goodness, absolutely try the wings. Crisp and juicy. Service was alright. Wow so happy we found this place!! We went on Friday night and due to being Passover and Good Friday we had no issues without a reservation thankfully as it was a last minute pick. Ambience is really great, upscale casual just like I like it. Drinks were excellent, well made cosmopolitan and an excellent wine list. We went with just a few small plates but everything was great. They have a nice pickle jar that we started with that contained an assortment of pickled veggies ranging from carrots, Swiss chard, radishes and dill pickles - delicious. Then we had a grilled flatbread that was superb with chopped little neck clams, lemon ricotta, red onion and arugula, melt in your mouth deliciousness! And we had the tuna tartare which they do with a ginger aioli that would've drank it was so good and served with cucumber and Thai vinaigrette and house made potato chips. The taste combination of the tuna on the crispy chip with a slice of the cucumber was foody heaven. I only wish we could've tried more items but we were satisfied with just those 3. But then they tempted us with the dessert menu and since we were celebrating our anniversary we tried the vanilla pudding. Nothing plain and vanilla about this one! Homemade vanilla pudding never tasted so good - with Bartlett pear jam, chocolate & sugar cookies and whipped cream it was divinely decadent and a wonderful way to finish off a great night!! I cannot wait to come back and dig further into their menu. And the bonus was the owner is a Deadhead like me so I was immediately happy when we met him at the door on our way in! This place really kicks ass, I wish there were more places like it on Long Island! You only really find places like this in the city, which is a shame. I have been meaning to come here for a while and so glad I did tonight, especially because they have a really worthwhile $30 ($32 maybe?) prix fixe menu on Sunday which includes a full size (same as the what's on the regular menu) appetizer, entree, and dessert. The portions were huge too which is awesome. Not too big, just right. My family ordered mussels, the shrimp and grits, and arugula salad for appetizers; all were delicious. Probably the best mussels I've ever eaten to be honest. Everything just tasted so fresh. The castlevetrano olives on the arugula salad were so damn good too. We were off to a good start. For entrees, we had the rack of lamb, the burger, and Tuna. All were off the charts. It's great that this place serves creative, high-end, unique dishes using exceptional ingredients and flavors, and at the same time offers a straight up delicious burger and fries. We're not drinkers so I can't really speak to the alcohol, but I did glance at the drink menu and they definitely have a lot of tasty-looking cocktails, artisan beers, and versatile wine menu. Geez, I sound like I'm promoting the place in the newspaper or something, I tend to get a little carried away yelping sometimes. I have to say, I almost walked out before we were even seated. The hostess allowed this couple with no reservations to go ahead of everyone. It was unprofessional and really upset me since I had made reservations and had to wait another 15 minutes because of them.....BUT I am so glad we stayed. A wonderful waitress saw I was annoyed and she came over to talk to me. She diffused the situation. We finally got seated and then the evening took a great turn. Our waiter was wonderful--I had a pear martini and as appetizers we had the grit tots (very delicious) and a to die goat cheese tartlet. OMG...all I can say this was so delicious with a salad on the side. Each bite was amazing. For dinner, I had the shrimp rissota and my boyfriend had the seared tuna. Again, wow oh wow. My rissota was extremely filling and absolutely perfect. My boyfriends was also delicious and the soba noodle salad with the avocado....delicious. I have to say the tastes of the dishes were over the top. The waiter was very helpful (Drew) and so nice. The entire staff was so accommodating including the bus boys. We had no room for dessert but I have to say I will absolutely be back again. So, we went here on my birthday and we had a nice dinner. We had a waiter that seemed to be his first day. We might have even been his first customer. Overall it was pretty nice. We decided to come back. We did and it was quite busy. We got a table and the manager (or perhaps it is the owner) came over ad brought us a complimentary appetizer. My entree was fine but I would suggest avoiding the lobster roll. It was not so good. We decided to go back there tonight. It was after 9:00, maybe 9:20. We went in and the place seemed to be still serving. There were a fair amount of customers and a packed bar. We recognized our server from the first visit who greeted us and he seemed quite happy to see us. I asked if they were still serving. He said yes and went to grab some menus. The manager/owner came rushing over making hand gestures to the waiter barking "no!" he looks to us and says at they closed at 9:00. We left and we decided not to go back. We felt like we were practically thrown out of this place tonight and I am actually kind of upset that I recommended this place to friends. We left and decided not to go back. Here's the problem with Market Bistro. In an area saturated with so mediocre restaurants, this initially comes off as being "special" first let me say this is a great space. Nice bar great atmosphere. Nice lighting. Good acoustics. And then look at the menu, which is different and city like. They have a nice wine list. But then you get down to the actual food. Which unfortunately is mediocre at best. That's not to say there aren't one or two things that stand out. A recent notable is the blackbean and avocado dip. But everything else is just "Ok". If I was just rating it based on decor, interior, and all that jazz I would give it 5 stars because when I walked inside, I could not believe I was in Jericho. This place is the epitome of hip and trendy. But, it started losing its stars when I sat down. The service was incredibly slow, I don't know if it was because me and my group were significantly younger than the other people in the restaurant, but it was weird because everyone was being served much more quickly than we were. I don't think our food took a long time to make either. I think we waited around 30 minutes for main dishes. Then the food, some of it was delicious like the salmon, but some items were less than stellar and I was confused at how they all came out of the same kitchen. We didn't try a lot of plates, so I can't say much more, but I think before you come here you should really read other user's reviews to find out what dishes are good and what aren't because there is a great gap between the two. TIP: if you are confused about where this place is because I think it may be confusing it is in the plaza that contains the Jericho Deli, Funcrafts, La Dolce Vita, and Marshalls. read more

I did go with high expectations...LFI, its a restaurant in Jericho's ancient & unimpressive strip center. Neighboring the deli (that hasn't invested a dime into updating since well before this century - no joke!), Dolce Vita/Marshall's. The staff was very lax/unlearned in the menu - not to mention the fact they all seem to be 1st time servers. No salt on table because dishes contained ample amounts of the stuff - a rare critique from this salt-lover palette. Heavy menu options were as anticipated - oily, fatty, & foofie. With the exception of the lamb sliders & "salted" caramel ice cream," overpriced meal paired with bad service in a cold out-of-their-element establishment leave me never wanting more. Delicious! Service was a little slow but it was New Years day, so I don't blame them. It's in such an unassuming area, you would never know that there is a great restaurant in the middle of a strip mall behind Whole Foods. It's not a secret though, plenty of people know about Market Bistro. Always make a reservation if you plan on dining here! We started with the butternut squash and goat cheese ravioli. Very fresh pasta. I'm not a fan of goat cheese, but everything else about the dish is fantastic. We also had the tuna tartare. The chips is comes with are pretty salty, but it compliments the tuna nicely. For entrees, 4 of us had the salmon, and it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked and paired well with the roasted veggies it came with. My father's cod was also perfectly cooked and delicious. My mom had the short ribs, which was tender and flavored nicely. Her dish was very warm and comforting on a cold day! BF had the shrimp and pasta. Somehow it tasted very light and delicious - how can pasta be light? We ended the evening with the warm chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream. The ice cream was awesome, totally outshined the cake. They also have fantastic wine. My previous experiences at Market Bistro have been excellent and dinner this week was no different. I was there with 2 friends and each of us had an app or salad and a meal and the food was excellent. The black bean and avecado dip was fantastic as was the bass special. The server was excellent as is the case each time I have been there. I keep reading and hearing about the rude bartenders who seem to want to save seats for their friends or regulars and the owner should rectify this immediately before people leave Market Bistro out of their restaurant rotation. read more

This place is a breath of fresh air in Jericho, a town whose food selection mostly consists of pizzerias, chinese food, and fast food chains. The place is pretty trendy-looking on the inside, with a large chalkboard displaying the specials, wine barrels along the back wall, and an industrial-looking ceiling. Their beer selection is also something most places around here are missing, featuring beers from New York breweries like Ommegang and Brooklyn Brewery as well as other domestic and international craft brews. All of the small plates I tried there were very good. The best by far is the shrimp and grits, the shrimp were seasoned and grilled perfectly and the fried cake of grits was crisp on the outside, with creamy goodness on the inside. The whole thing is topped with a creamy cajun sauce that really adds a lot of flavor. The coq au vin ragu was great, and the meatballs were really good though the bread on the bottom got pretty soggy from the sauce. The flatbread with gorgonzola, pancetta, walnuts, pears, and arugula was definitely the most "shareable" of the small plates, and all of the flavors worked well together. They always feature one special and the last time I went in it was a duck cassoulet. I had never heard of a cassoulet before but I really enjoyed it. The duck was very juicy and the chunks of garlic sausage were delicious. For sides, they also have truffle oil fries, which were a little soggy but I'm a huge sucker for truffle oil so I devoured them anyway. My recommendation for eating here is to share several small plates and maybe an entree, as the plates are a little small on their own and the entrees are a little large not to share. Such a great environment from the brick walls to the wine all against the bar area, the music, etc. Came here on a Thursday night at 6 pm. Made a reservation, not many people then all sudden within the hour got packed. The food is amazing. We started off with the avocado black bean dip, the tuna tartar, shrimp & grits & the wings. All of it was so so good. For entrees we ordered the linguini with mussels & clams, the MB burger & another pasta dish. My friend had the burger which was a mix of steak, beef which she seemed to love! For dessert the brownie sandwich with marshmallow in between & the bread pudding was delicious. If you don't like s'more type marshmallow, then get the bread pudding. The waiter was very nice guy, came by every so often & was very helpful. They played such good music at a perfect volume. All good things about this place. Only bad thing I could say about this place really is that they should make the sign for it pop more because it could be easily missed & needs to stand out more. read more

I was quite enthused to try Market Bistro; They have a well put together website, and their menu looked great, as did the decor. My wife and I had a reservation for a Saturday night, and we were seated right away despite the vast majority of the tables being full. The staff was friendly and seemed to genuinely want to be helpful. We were put at a small table for two which shared bench seating with adjacent tables. Our table had to be moved in order for me to sit down, and even then it was hard to squeeze through without jostling our neighbors (and I'm not a terribly large person). Between that and the hard surfaces of the walls and ceiling, polite conversation was nearly impossible. It's a great venue for a raucous party of basketball fans (of which there were a few), but not for a romantic or even friendly tête-à-tête. The service was reasonably smooth, but certainly not doting. It took quite a long time for a water glass to be refilled, and bread took as long to come out as appetizers at comparable restaurants. Their martinis are excellent. My wife had an "A Perfect Pear", which was smooth, fruity, but not overly sweet. The food on the other hand gets a resounding "meh" from me. The baby beet salad was good, but nothing earth shattering. The duck gnocchi, which sounded fantastic on the menu, was merely decent. It was disappointing because I love all of the ingredients, but their preparation was lackluster. The local sea scallops dish was bland and uninspired. I love risotto, mushrooms, asparagus and most anything truffled. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the chef accidentally left out the black truffles entirely. There was no truffle taste at all. The risotto was underdone to my taste (but perhaps that's the chef's personal choice), and the mushrooms certainly didn't pop. The scallops themselves were, again, just "good". I've had better and I've had worse. The red wine braised short ribs were quite tasty, but similar to what you could get at many other restaurants. We also had the marinated olives with the bread course. My wife liked them a lot, but for me they were too al dente. I really wanted to like Market Bistro. On paper it's a great restaurant. But a crowded and noisy dining room, languid service, and food that scores high only on the "meh" scale leaves me dissatisfied. It's not a bad place by any means, but with so many other restaurants in the area it's not worth a second visit. If you want to try it for yourself, go early or mid-week to avoid the crowds, and stick to the tried and true menu items. PS - The only thing that might drag me back is the mb (sic.) burger. It's something that sounds otherworldly on paper, composed as it is of dry aged rib eye, kobe brisket, and short rib. Before visiting the restaurant I wanted to try the burger based upon its descriptive merits. If truth be told, I just don't get it. Why all the fuss. I think that the only reason I got a prime time Saturday night reservation was because it was the 2nd night of Passover. When I looked at open table that afternoon it showed the restaurant fully booked. While we were having dinner - between 7:30 and 9 - there were plenty of open tables. Why the deception? Our server was a professional and seemed to know the menu. Meal was good but not exceptional. The lady at the table next to mine asked to have her salad chopped - the kitchen said no. We went to Market Bistro on Saturday night for the first time. Normally, when I see a restaurant in a strip mall or shopping center, I'm weary. Just me and a weird quirk of mine. But man, this place is nothing short of great! Food/drink: We shared the black bean avocado dip (a must have per other yelpers) and it was delicious. My fiancé had the oven chicken and I had the Norwegian cod. Best cod I think I've ever had. For desert, we shared the brownie. The homemade marshmallow was BOMB. The wine pour could have been served in a bigger glass, but they made a great dirty martini. Service: Impeccable. Our waitress was super friendly and made excellent recommendations. Ambiance: Excellent atmosphere. We really enjoyed it, very trendy. Only gripe was that later on, it started to get pretty crowded and we felt a little closed in around us between the bar crowd and the big tables. If you plan to visit I would definitely make a reservation. Overall, we will be returning. Hopefully sooner than later! read more

Four stars? Really?!? Average food & below average desserts. The pizzette was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the "Dip", "Shrimp", "Steak", banana Choc bread pudding, & the espresso waffle. All were average at best. The shrimp were not properly cleaned & tasted like they came from the freezer. Bread pudding was served cool, not warmed. We really like its sister restaurant, West End Cafe, which has much better food! read more

Market Bistro is a great restaurant in a location you would not expect to find great food. Forget that it's in a strip mall. I've been here at least a half dozen times both for lunch and dinner. Each time I've had great service, great food and always new choices on the menu. Nothing I've had has ever disappointed . For lunch get a Cuban sandwich and for dinner get whatever is the daily special A very good beer selection too!
