The spicy vodka Lumache is fantastic, as was the corn agnatolli. They have a seasonal menu with some year-round menu items, so it's cool that they're working with ingredients from each season. Oysters--ordered a dozen of the world's smallest oysters, equivalent to 1/2 dozen normal-sized ones. Rigatoni Carbonara--incredibly salty. Just...salty. It's like they seasoned it twice. Strozzapreti--lightly sauced, which is fine, but about 1/2 cup of meat for the entire dish. Pasta shape was a little difficult to eat and was super al dente. Bland. I'm still debating whether this place is a solid 4 stars or more like a 3.5. The pastas were good, but the broccolini was too acidic for my taste. The ambiance was nice, but the two-top table was way too small for three dishes and our glasses. The food is served family-style here, but I don't understand why the tables are so small. It felt like a lack of attention to the overall dining experience. We barely had enough room for everything, as you can see in the photo. The service was below average. We asked them to light the candle on our table, but they took it away and never brought it back. We also asked for the grated cheese to be served on the side instead of on our pasta, but the kitchen added it directly to the pasta anyway. They also didn't check on us during the meal. Popped in on a week night with my fiancé and there was no wait. No reservation, we were seated right away. At that point, the server paused and said our order was "kind of light" and that that sounds like more of "a light meal." in what world is it OK to make comments about someone's order?? and he asked if we were very hungry before his comment then I may have cut some slack. But the comment felt unnecessary and a bit judgmental, as if we were being encouraged to order more food rather than simply choosing what we wanted. It made us feel uncomfortable honestly. We explained that we had been hopping between happy hour spots and this was our third stop, and he simply acknowledged it and walked away. I don't normally rave about a side Caesar but this one was really good with just the right amount of dressing and Parmesan. For my main courses (as in, I wanted two mains because I just couldn't decide) I ordered the hanger steak and the rigatoni carbonara. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked between rare-medium rare for me. The carbonara which is homemade was delicious with crispy bits of Guanciale to balance the cheesiness. M ordered the Lumache for her main course. She enjoyed her pasta and said that it wasn't too spicy. The star of the evening was the Basque cheesecake. Order the cheesecake. Yes, order the cheesecake. That said, they did seat us at a less than ideal table that was more of a lounge area than dinner table. There was a weird lull in between the first appetizers and the rest of the meal in which we sat for close to 30 minutes without any food and then suddenly it was all delivered at once. In my opinion (and the table's) the stand out items were surprisingly the king salmon crudo and persimmon toast. Focaccia was forgettable tbh. The rest of the meal was solid however I do think the pasta is a bit overpriced given there isn't any protein in them. We ended the meal with tiramisu and affogato which were both good. I was put off by the staff however, as the host came up to our table before we even finished dessert or received our check letting us know they needed to turn the table over for the next party. The charred cabbage was a standout, and the grilled half chicken was excellent. As a few other reviews have mentioned, there was an awkward gap between our pasta course and the main entree. Our waitress was very personable and accommodating, which made the delay no big deal. Later in the evening, the restaurant shifts into more of a bar atmosphere, and since we enjoyed dinner, we decided to come back for drinks. I've been there before with friends during the late-night bar and DJ setup and had good experiences, so we were excited to return. The hostess was kind and suggested we come back around 10-10:30 pm. We returned at 10:30 and sat at the bar, but our seats were promptly removed by a member of the waitstaff. When I asked for a menu, a waitress said she would grab one but returned without it and did not explain why we weren't being served. We then moved to an open couch area near the bar and were quickly told it was reserved and unavailable. I understand we came during a transition period, but the lack of clear communication and how the situation was handled felt inconsistent with the service we received earlier in the night. The employees were unable to refund my cancellation fee ($25/person), but they gave me a $100 gift card instead.
