I dropped my car off wednesday night. Fluid was leaking and I could not determine where it was coming from. Rec'd call Thursday afternoon the engine had so much oil on it they could not tell either. They needed to steam clean the engine and then could go from there. $90 to steam clean it. Did not hear back until Monday. They steamed cleaned it and cannot find a leak come get the car. $259.00 later I was told drive it for a week and see what happens, the man at the counter kept going on and on about all the oil on the engine. (I had the oil changed and the oil filter was put on incorrectly causing oil to spill all over). 45 minutes later still leaking fluid. Called shop after inspection the engine it was not steam cleaned and if it was it was a terrible job. I was told again that it had so much oil and it was cleaned, when I pressed the issue I was told it was pretty much just done to get the oil off and not a full cleaning. Again told to just watch it and see what happens, it might be residue in the oill pan. Well let me tell you I can see the fluid dripping and do not understand why they cannot. I do not believe they did anything to my car and kept it for 5 day, the man at the counter is curt and treated me like I had no idea what I was talking about. Customer service is not the strong point here I will not be back. Pretty sure they do not care. read more

I needed my first oil change and found this shop off of the Amsoil website. They have other locations but this is the only one that carries Amsoil oil. This is my oil of preference as it's one of the top of the line oils. I advise calling ahead of time to make an appointment. I made mine a couple of weeks in advance as that's the next available appointment if I wanted to wait for my car to be done. I showed up a little after my scheduled appointment and was met by Tom. He was great to deal with -- amazing customer service! Since his oil change guy called in sick that day, he was the only one in the shop. Another customer showed up that had an appointment the same time as me. Tom did both cars in a little less than an hour. Wow! I'm impressed! The cost of a full synthetic oil change is $20 cheaper at this shop than what the Subaru dealer charges and also cheaper than what Jiffy Lube charges. Not to mention, they use Amsoil oil. Because of the high quality of Amsoil oil, with full-synthetic oil, I don't need another oil change for 10,000 miles. Although this shop is a 30-mile drive away, I will be coming here from now on for regular maintenance and any car needs. I highly recommend them! read more

They were able to special order the part for me and squeeze me in the next day. I appreciated this especially since they were working on over fourteen cars with two guys and they never complained. They were polite, courteous, and explained everything to me. He pointed out what was wrong with the vehicle I was going to buy and offered negotiation strategies to get what I should from the dealership. His services would've been cheaper than the dealership, but he didn't even pitch me his services, he just provided value. Had some brake issues and brought it here for a diagnosis. Said he would only charge me for the diagnosis if I didn't use them for the repair. The issue ended up being locked calipers. His recommendation was to replace both calipers, rotors, and brake pads. His quote for all the work was $1000! I'm not an expert on cars but I know it doesn't normally cost that much. I've changed my rotors and brake pads myself in the past but couldn't in my current situation. Ended up taking it to another Japanese auto shop and they recommended changing only 1 caliper but both rotors and brake pads. Got it all done for less than $400. Not saying they are dishonest but at the very least are expensive. read more

I was actually skeptical before taking my truck here. I was recommended to them by my local Les Schwab. When I called Mark's, the guy on the other end seemed to get impatient with me and came off as a bit rude. I wondered if this was really a place I wanted to take my truck to. But I had a coolant leak and a packed schedule, so I didn't have time to shop around. All the stellar Yelp reviews reassured me enough to drop off my truck with them. Mark's Auto did one thing I greatly appreciate: they overestimated on both time and price. They told me it could be morning the next day before they had a chance to look at it, and they diagnosed the problem within a couple of hours. They let me know it could be a couple of days to have the truck ready, and they were finished in less than 24 hours. They told me it would be $350, and it ended up being $305. I know a lot of places would prefer to come off as cheap and quick, so they estimate the bear minimum, not realizing that customers get pissed when it eventually takes longer and costs more. I'm glad the guys at Mark's understand this. During the job, the mechanic realized a part he had ordered wasn't necessary, so he DIDN'T install it, and they will send it back! I was very pleasantly surprised to hear about that. Ryan, on the phone, also explained to me other things that appeared to be in bad shape, but I didn't feel pressured at all to get all those other jobs done right them. I try to do as much work on my own as I can, and they seemed to totally respect that. It always sucks when your main vehicle is down and you know you're out some serious $$$, but it certainly alleviates the pain when you feel the place you rely on respects you and has no intent to pull the wool over your eyes. I have an older truck, so I'm glad I can feel comfortable calling on Mark's again for future issues. read more

Came in with a Groupon (most likely the problem) and was refused service and lied to. They insisted that I was required to pay $30 extra for synthetic oil because it was required by the manufacturer. (This is NOT true) I even dug my owner's manual out of my car and brought it to the desk. It very clearly shows that synthetic oil is neither required nor recommended - only that it "may" be used. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, the guy continued to refuse service, insisting that synthetic oil was required. I ended up leaving empty handed and wasting 30 minutes of my time. read more

Last Thursday, I called Marks in Bellevue and spoke to a man named Chemical Imbalance Tom. I told him that I have a car that missed an oil change and I wanted a hot oil flush as a precaution, and I have no reason to believe there was an engine sludge problem yet. Chemical Imbalance Tom said that he might be able to squeeze me in if I stopped by the next morning and left the car there all day, which was acceptable to me. So the next morning I drove over and Chemical Imbalance Tom was at the desk. I told him that I spoke to him yesterday about an oil flush and I'm here to drop off my car. For some reason, he immeadatly started yelling at me for not having an appointment. I told he again that I just spoken to him the day before and he said it was ok to drop off my car. Then he said, still in a raised voice, "in my 25 years experience, when someone come in and asks for an oil flush, they are looking to sue a shop for creating a oil sludge problem". Then he proceeded to lecture me about why fraud is bad and why I shouldn't try to rip him off. He hasn't even seen my car at this point and he his yelling at me and calling me a criminal for requesting this oil service. I cut Chemical Imbalance Tom off during his lecture and told him to lower his voice and change his tone. i am a customer, not a criminal. He said 'fine. gimme your keys" At this point I told him i didn't like his attitude and told him I decided to take my business elsewhere. I ended up going to their Redmond shop instead. a man there named Hamid serviced my car while i waited and even changed out some light bulbs for free. If you are going to Marks, avoid the Bellevue store at all costs. There is no waiting in Redmond and they don't have Chemical Imbalance Tom, who frankly has no business being in a customer facing position. read more

Arrogant and uncooperative... Kept insisting that the correct oil weight was for my Toyota Venza was 0W20 but I said that it was 5w30. They then lied to me and said that's what's written in the manual. Well no, that's NOT what it said. I was right and they begrudgingly accepted that. It's one thing to get the oil weight wrong, but then to persist and mislead the customer and say why they're correct, erodes any trust in them. read more

These guys are great! I had a little mini truck that exploded on Mercer Island. I had it towed to Mark's and turns out the engine had blown. John didn't charge a thing for the work he did and also helped me to find someone to buy my truck off me when I decided to scrap it. Don't believe their mailing flier ad pricing or verbal. Get it in writing if you must go here. Took VW here for 60K service.....called to confirm pricing before dropping off car in morning, and again during status check-up mid-day while its in shop. Was up-sold for new brake job front & back....Ok, fine if it's needed then let it be. Before picking up the car, the Manager twice tried to raise the price on the 60K service (vs. their mailing fliers promote pricing & my various verbal confirmation)! Also they did not sound pleased when I requested to have the old parts from 60K tune-up and brake service back for inspection. Overall, can't trust these guy. And VW dealers are bunch cons too (dealer's service fee are no lower than on my BMW or Lexus cars...WTF?! this is a Volkswagen, not Audi)!!! No more VM in the future & Mark's!!! read more

The guys at Mark's Japanese Auto are true professionals - what a breath of fresh air! I had made an appointment with a different company to get an oil change, and taken the day off work to handle errands (like oil changes) that are harder to tackle with a toddler on the weekends. After waiting 20 minutes just to check in at the other place, they couldn't find my reservation. The combination of losing my appointment, taking 20 minutes to determine that, and being slow in the past - I was done, and am never going back. Luckily, I found Mark's! They were able to get me in the same day. The guy working the desk was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they were running on time. They quoted 45 minutes and when I came back an hour later, my car was ready to go and parked outside. For their ability to run a professional business, handle appointments on time, be incredibly friendly, and get the job done? Mark's is definitely my new car maintenance spot! Recently had brakes done on my Toyota Highlander . They did really great job and pricing was very reasonable as opposed to dealer cost. Quality of the work was good and done in a timely manner. Only two hours to do both front and back. Would highly recommend this place. Recently had really bad experience with a so called reputable Toyota dealer in Bellevue. After visiting a local dealer to verify the repair the service manager assured me that none of the repairs needed and my car is in great shape. I was taking my Subaru Impreza there for maintenance and oil changes. I had three lights come on recently and took it to a closer garage the Subaru garage. I had dirty oil and it was low. This was after having my car services at Mark's at 60,000 miles. The car only had 63,000. They never changed my oil and still charged me for it. Avoid this place. read more

When he found out there were no major issues, the reason that I had that problem was because fluid was low in transmission. He put the liquor in. What a honest person. After taking my car into Marks on New Years Eve for an ABS problem I was hesitant to leave it there after the mechanic made a remark about the make of my car and he was so busy that I had to leave it there all day and they would try and get to it..They ended up charging me almost $1000.00 and said it was fixed.. I just drove it for the first time today and the same problems were happening.. I dropped by to talk to them about it and was told rudely by the mechanic that he was too busy having lunch and that he had too many cars to work on and didn't know when they could take my car into check it out again..I told him they had already got paid for it and now they couldn't see what was going on?! The mechanic got mad and said he wasn't going to look at it.. The manager said he would take the computer tester and check it again and drove it in the parking lot.. He said he couldn't get any info on it and that it could possibly be a bad part or something else wrong with it and they would have to call me when they had time to look at it again.. I was very upset.. but they didn't seem to care.. I asked the manager if that was the only mechanic they had and he said yes..but that he was sorry he was rude to me but he is good at what he does.. I asked him if he was sure he was even able to work on it or just change a sensor..he said he worked on it.. I was told that it should be safe to drive and they would call me when they had time.. I left so upset but they didn't seem to care...I am now going to take it to the dealer and see what they have to say... I will never take my car into Marks Japanese Auto again and be treated to rudely for just asking questions.. If they only have 1 mechanic working and so many cars they are working on it should be questionable for everyone's cars. read more

The guy in the Bellevue location is Arrogant .When I called to book an appointment ,I did not know the correct Engine version, He disconnected call saying that he cant do it since I didn't know which Engine version it was(v 1.6 or 1.8 ?). John is great, very clear about necessary vs nice to do. Prices are super, makes me sorry i stayed stayed so long after warranty using the BMW dealership service dept. My experience with Mark's Japanese European Auto has been nothing short of stellar in every sense. They have bent over backwards to meet my needs and timeframe. One time I arrived unannounced to schedule an appointment and they were able to take care of the issue on the spot. That's rare. And they have done all this with reasonable rates. My first experience was using a Groupon for an oil change. Upon completion, I fully expected to hear a list of needed repairs but instead heard that everything looked great! I have used Mark's in Bellevue the last 7 years and have found them to be the best in the business. Tom and John are fantastic. They tell you what is wrong with your car and the best way to deal with it. One time, I was going on a road trip and took my car there for them to check it out. I was told that my brakes will soon need to be changed. I of course went into a panic that there was no way I could travel with worn brakes. They assured me that the brakes were fine for the trip. What impressed me was that they did not take advantage of my panic and change the brakes when it was not time to. Went on the trip and came back, no problem. Had several routine service items needed after 90,000 miles. They were very good about not trying to do a lot of extra items and even told me what I did not need to worry about even though the dealer had recommended the service. I had the feeling that Marks is very honest and sincere. I really wanted to give 4.5 stars and I would have given 5 stars except that they seem a little hard to get a detailed estimate.
