A group of us came for family-style dining, and the experience was a memorable one! Service was awesome and love the atmosphere of Marrakesh, but unfortunately, didn't love the food. We had a reservation for a Friday night, which I recommend doing so for Fridays and Saturdays because that's when there is a belly dancer! With that said, I recommend visiting Marrakesh then to enjoy the whole Moroccan experience! The seating arrangement are low couches and chairs where you feel as if you're sitting on the floor, and how they decorate the place gives you a feeling you're in a dark tent with carpets all around, as if you're in Morocco. The atmosphere was awesome, and would say that there's nothing like it. Service was awesome. Since many of us didn't know what to order we had several questions for the staff, and had went over choosing the a la carte option versus family style. Since I'm allergic to cinnamon, the owner carefully went over the menu with me, to what I could order and what to avoid. And even when the Moroccan Milk Pudding came out and had cinnamon on top, the server, Aziz said he would make one for me without, which was very thoughtful. Aziz was primarily our server the entire night and he was fantastic! He was very friendly, patient and joked around with us throughout the night. I can't say enough great things about him. The family-style dining is a great option for large parties, especially if you haven't done it before. You get lentil soup, salad, B'stilla Royale appetizer, your entree, dessert and mint tea. It's custom to eat Moroccan food with your hands, so the servers come around with a metal dish and pitcher of warm water, for everyone to rinse your hands before and after dining! It was a fun part of our dining experience. As for food I enjoyed the lentil soup and salad was fine, yet the lettuce was watery. I wasn't able to have the appetizer, B'stilla Royale because it had cinnamon, but my friends really liked it. It was a pie made with phyllo dough and had ground beef, peas and carrots inside and was sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon. For my entree I had the Tagine of Lamb with Eggplant. It was a braised lamb with ginger, saffron and garlic with fried eggplant on top. Though the lamb was very tender and juicy, I didn't think the entree was as good as it read. I expected the flavors of ginger, saffron and garlic to be much more abundant, but honestly, couldn't really taste it. I wouldn't think those flavors made up the dish had I not read it beforehand. The texture of the skin of the eggplant was tough to chew, so had to take a big gulp of it all at once since I couldn't cut through it. I also would've liked some rice on the side with it, which I know the entree didn't implicate - but would've been nice to soak up the juices from the lamb. For family-style, they also charge you two dollars extra for lamb dishes, which is fine, but it should be worth it - which I don't think it was. I most likely wouldn't order this dish again. I did think the dessert was better though. The Morrocan Milk Pudding was light, not very sweet and served chilled, which was a nice dish after our meal. Each of us also had a mint tea, which was very minty and sweet. I enjoyed it, but would've liked it better if it was less sweet. Overall, the experience is one-of-a-kind and would recommend visiting here with a large party. The server looked flustered and we had to ask for something several times and waited to get it for a long time. I made a reservation for Monday and I got a call from them telling me they're closed and if I want to re-book. I said how about today. We spotted the place on Thurs. and were there on Fri. We were seated on the cozy couch in the corner. Started with iced tea sweetened with rose water and flavored with mint. The meal comes in courses. The salad was bits of shredded lettuce and loaded with tomatoes. This is where lentil soup makes sense to me and it was perfect. Third is a big ol' puff pastry covered with powered sugar, yet not a dessert. Basil got kebabs, I got chicken tagine. So tender and loaded with lemon and GREEN olives. I was eating this with my hands and dipping it in the juice. I couldn't get this down fast enough. So sick of everything being served with black olives. Dessert was a creamy milk pudding. He brought out some steaming tea, that he basically forced on me, since I don't drink it straight. Sweetened with rose water was absolutely delicious. We got our hands washed at the table twice. I've been to this restaurant few times and the last experience was just mediocre to say the least. I remember visiting Marrakesh a few years back and it felt like an interesting experience, with the tents and belly dancers and all. But going back again last month, the place and the decor felt kinda tired. One thing my wife and few other friends complained about right outa the bat was the lingering smell, I'm guessing from all the fabrics around - the carpeted walls and seating, and the fact that the whole place is enclosed without windows. So if that's something you're sensitive about, it might make the whole experience a bit more unpleasant. The food was just ok, nothing great as per my opinion. Not really something I'd come back for, but I'm sure there are enough fans around. I love this place. I remember coming here alone twelve years ago when I was single and would order a B'stilla and some sort of meat dish on my "treat yo'self" days. Something magical happens when you walk through those doors and enter a windowless room where everything is covered in beautiful rugs and fabrics. It's another world - my beautiful oasis in the middle of the gleaming city. I come for that alone. I'm happy to say it's retained its charm. We opted for the Royal Feast. The food is delicious - I see a number of reviewers feel it's bland but the succulent apricot chicken we had was drenched in its honeyed sauce and one of our other dining companions cleaned the spicy lamb plate - in short, we liked it just fine. The meat is beautifully cooked. The owner even made accommodations for our vegan guest on the spot. This restaurant has many vegetarian options, fyi! Be aware that this long and leisurely meal will run over an hour. Our party of six had plenty to eat and we took home two packed containers of food. Also, if you eat bread, grab a lot at the beginning when your server brings around the big basket - you may not see it again for awhile! Everyone there was super-friendly and the belly dancer was engaging and lovely, inviting diners to join her. And my mom actually had a blast dancing with the belly dancer. Yea she's cool! Food~ delicious! You get so much food for under $20. Cocktails are not the best but they have a rather reasonable wine list. You choose your main dish and get to share the side dishes!! That doughy pillowy thing with mince meat and powder sugar on top is just amazing! You can get it with fried eggs as well if you don't want the meat! A ton of bread, salads and dessert. I came here on a Thursday night around 7:30 PM with a big group of people. My friend had a table reserved for 7 people, but 9 people ended up going. We still managed to fit at their larger table. The only problem I had with the table was sitting comfortably because my legs are so long (not to mention, I was wearing heels)--but I thought "hey, this is a cultural experience, suck it up." Upon entering the place, you will immediately get a feel of a Moroccan culture. From the restaurant's interior design, to the waitress's uniform. Once seated, we were each given a towel and a glass of water. "So," I thought, "they use towels as napkins?" Little did I know that we were all going to get our hands washed prior to eating our dinner! I thought that was a different experience, but I liked it! We were then given lentil soup, followed by bread with salad. Just as we thought our entrée was coming, we were given another dish, sort of like a Shepards Pie but with a flaky top crust like of a croissant. This is also topped with powdered sugar, so you get both sweet and savory. I also would like to add that everything was eaten with our hands except our entrée. As for my entrée, I ordered the Tangine Spicy Lamb. My plate was soupy compared to others at the table. I love soup, so I enjoyed mine! I know I'm Asian, but I'm not into too much spicy food. I thought my food was perfect, but another person who ordered the same thing as me thought they couldn't taste the spice at all. I also ordered the Turkish coffee, because who needs sleep on a work night right? I have never tried Turkish Coffee before, but this I enjoyed very much! It was served in a tiny espresso cup (so you know I was pretty wired the rest of the night), with no cream, but with sugar. It was the most perfect coffee I've ever had--I kid you not! At the end of our meal, we washed our hands again and was given this special oil for our hands. We were also given tea which was poured super high from the tea cups! I was super impressed! You can't miss their pink building, it's almost a turn-off visually but when a friend's birthday came up, and we needed to find someplace that would be entertaining for 30 of us, this was a total luck-of-the-draw-surprise. You sit on the floor on with little pillows, and once seated, they bring around a lovely silver pot filled with rose water so you can wash your hands--right at your table! And don't even THINK about asking for silverware. This is all done by hand. I love using my hands. I've got two of them and they were poking around in every plate that was placed at our table (We had 3 tables). The volume was so ridiculous, I started putting my fingers into every dish, even though I wasn't taking anything. I just liked the sensation. Be careful though. I burnt my hands on the tasty chicken drummette thingies not once, but twice, but that was my own fault. This place isn't cheap by all means, but the lavish presentation, belly dancers (!), jolly vibe is well worth a trip down. Special note: You can custom-order food that takes longer to prepare beforehand. 3 days prior to the party, we requested a whole goat as the main course. And while I didn't partake on the Billy Goat Gruff, everybody who tried it said it was FABULOUS. The only hiccup for about half the group was the fact that it came out...whole. I am not squeamish when it comes to animal protein--I think it's important to know where your food comes from. Or else I would've had to give 4 stars. My friend got the Salmon prepared in tomato base. Luckily she had a fork or that would've been a real mess. lol. Your hands are bathed in orange-scented water prior to the meal and following the main course. Prepare to eat with your hands, traditionally the thumb and first two fingers of the right hand. Forks available upon request. The suggested meal at Marrakesh is a 5-course set menu with choice of entree. It begins with lentil soup and a salad. Our salad had an eggplant pâté in the center. The flavor was good, although not spicy. The lentil soup was hearty. The salad was served with bread, presumably to sop up the savory juices. This was our first time eating B'stilla. In this case it was a sweet and savory chicken pie. It was flavorful mixed with with almonds in a powdered sugar-sprinkled phylo shell. I had the lamb tajine with eggplant. My son had chicken brouchette with basmati rice and my Husband had tajine of braised hare. Each dish was flavorful, albeit not spicy. The meal ended with milk pudding mixed with seared coconut and honey. The traditional mint tea was poured from on high into glasses from a silver pitcher and was flavored with honey. All in all, the meal was wonderful and the ambiance superlative, although there were no belly dancers tonight. The service was okay. The female server wore a traditional gown, but the men were in t-shirts and jeans. Staff were polite and extremely busy, not giving them much time to be overly-attentive. The chicken arrived nice and early. It was almost half a chicken with a little bit of gravy and olives sprinkled about. The meat itself was very tender and juicy, likely marinated long enough. It was delicious overall. The rice arrived soon after and looked pretty mainly thanks to the roasted vermicelli added to it. I should mention that the service was excellent throughout. It would be even better if the waiter wouldn't keep asking if everything was okay every 5 mins - only a minor issue though. I excitedly booked a reservation at Marrakesh Restaurant for my birthday, hoping to find the best place to gather with friends for the evening after a long day of fasting for Ramadan. To my dismay, everything went terribly from the minute we arrived. Every single course of the meal was extremely bland, tasteless, and low quality. I made a point of asking the waiter about the best dish on the menu, and was very disappointed by what was brought out. My friends and I were starving & hoping to love the food, but most of us left our plates unfinished. The bill came out to 30$ per person, which, imho, was totally not worth it in terms of quantity AND quality. That price could buy me Fresh Northwest Oysters from Pink Door! On top of our terrible experience with food, the manager was highly intimidating, unaccommodating, and even went as far as lecturing us about the rules of hookah. He kept an eye on us as if we were reckless customers when we were simply having conversation. I absolutely did NOT appreciate being treated like a child, especially after paying so much for a low quality meal. I don't know why but each time I go here, it gets better and better. If you're not a fan immediately, please give it another try. Well, this place stays open. No matter how busy they are, they are reliable and I have now eaten here about 6 times total. I'm not a fan of the desert course but I'm still a big fan of this place. The price can't be beat for what I get from this place. In fact, I'm happy just with the soup and salad with the fresh bread they have. . . just that course and I could be done and happy for $20 in Seattle. The decor sends me to another place which is shocking when stepping back out into Belltown after the experience here. LOL The last time I visited, the main course was not consistent. My friend's Lamb was soft and amazing. My lamb was hard and difficult to eat without a knife and fingers to help. I love this place and the service is always friendly, in the theme, and attentive. Went during covid and it was just as memorable with an awesome impressive service and good food. Great value for all the food you get. We were seated at least 1 table apart from each other. When I went pre-covid (few years prior), it was so packed with people that I was rubbing my back against other guests but even then, we had so much fun. We are definitely not Moroccan food experts but the tagine was fall off the bone so delicious like what I had in Morocco. Once seated, they brought a basin to pour warm water over our hands to wash them before starting the meal. Then they brought out the lentil soup to drink and the salad to eat. We didn't order those so we were pleasantly surprised that it was all included as part of the meal. Then came the interesting puff pastry dish w chicken/egg mixture inside w powdered sugar and cinnamon accent. Then the main entrée of the chicken tagine w lemon and olive, and the beef bough... Skewer. We totally forgot to take a photo of the dish before digging in but half way through, we took the photo. Then they brought rose water to wash our hands before the rice pudding with sweet mint tea. Definitely will return to try to rest of the menu. Great experience for valentine's day. Service was very slow,food didn't have the best taste, and the drama over splitting checks was a nightmare for our group. The atmosphere was fun, and I loved the belly dancing show. I'll probably have to give this place another shot , but with a not so large group read more
