This property is a poor property for a large hotel brand like Marriott! I have been a frequent quest of this hotel for many many years and have stayed at Marriott properties worldwide in my occupation. I honestly can't believe Marriott still has the brand name attached to this hole! The gym is dated and filthy and oh by the way, the bottled water outside the gym is tap water from the hose that is put into the container that has been there for years. Ask me how I know. You will be able to tell when you smell the strong smell of chlorine. The lounge on the 20th floor is an embarrassment to the brand, food wise! Great staff members and they are all helpful and kind. Don't waste your time for the 5 o'clock crappy hour in the lounge either, you can enjoy some concoction they put together from old leftovers in the kitchen and it isn't good at all! Moving onto the rooms, dirty old carpets and if you have an allergy to down like I do and need a polyester or foam pillow, good luck! Several stays and several tries, didn't happen ! I had 3 sent to the room that were still down and finally broke down and went to JC penny down the block and bought my own pillow because they couldn't provide one. That's a first ever, at any hotel worldwide for me! As a platinum elite member, you you feel like the thousands you spent on hotels to get to the top tiers really paid off with this property! Not! A total joke! Cheap ownership is the culprit but it's also obviously horribly managed! Go to the Sheraton ANC or even the older Hilton which is being remodelled. Heck go to the comfort inn! Super disappointing after so many years, especially for the cost. Nice staff though ! read more

This was a very nice hotel. Sure, there were a few hiccups but the overall experience was definitely one of my better recent Marriott experiences. Upon check in I was immediately greeted by a bellman who retrieved some cases I had shipped to the hotel ahead of arrival. He had them up to my room before I arrived and helped with me some local questions I had. He was very friendly and conversational without being annoying. Front desk staff was very friendly and appropriately staffed so as not to make anyone wait more than a minute or two to check in (and there was a lot of activity going on with the recent arrival of a crowd from the cruise ship). The catering staff let me borrow a cart from their private stash to move around my hundred pound cases after I got settled in and told me to just feel free to walk into the staff area any time I needed one as long as I promised to return it. I was willing to oblige. Room was very clean, well kept, had a gorgeous view from both side of the hallway (my boss was on the opposite side and had a great view of the inlet and, occasionally Mt. McKinley, while I had a gorgeous view of mountains and the downtown. Her view was better but I could hardly complain about my view (which I"ll attach as a photo shortly). Concierge lounge was well stocked for breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres. Bartender on the first floor was friendly and funny. It's atypical for me to give such a good review, especially of a hotel, I should note. They did forget to clean my room one day but were more than happy to clean it right away when I got back to the room and noticed. I declined since it wasn't in too bad of shape. I had one room service experience. I ordered the halibut fish and chips (FANTASTIC) and ordered Cream of Asparagus soup. They brought beef and barley instead and since they made the mistake and I didn't desire the cream of asparagus anymore, they took the entire meal off my bill which I thought was unnecessary but very customer service oriented. More places should act this way. I was at the hotel for a conference for 3 days and it was catered by the hotel. Everyone agreed that the food was amazing, especially the fresh salmon in a cream sauce. Yum. Overall great experience, I'd definitely come back. read more

Location is great for walking to downtown restaurants and attractions. The rooms are large and well appointed. Our shower was really nice. The staff is not as helpful as we would like but they are dealing with a crazy amount of seniors going to and from cruise ships. Got to give them a break for dealing with that! read more

Wonderful Hotel. Although I haven't stayed there overnight, I've been there for several catered events and wedding receptions. The catering staff are extremely pleasant and the space is always vibrant. I'm not usually a fan of large catered parties because more oft than not the food suffers. Hotel checks you in, let's you get unpacked and settled in your room...THEN tells you about scheduled maintenance on the water and that it would be shut down for several hours. THEY KNEW BEFORE THEY CHECKED YOU IN. Sounds like they care more about keeping the revenue stream than they do about their guests. read more

If I can give this hotel a negative star I would. But no such thing exist. This is the most incompetent & untrained staff I've ever experienced in my life. I checked into a hotel, not a club. Was suppose to stay in room 1500 but there was apparently a club party next door. I called the front desk, they said they would handle it. 15 mins has passed and nothing happened. I decided to check out and leave. The best part of it all, is that they had the nerve to charge me almost $200. For something I did not use. The front desk gentleman was unhelpful & untrained. You should be ashamed of yourself for giving such poor service. Taking money from someone that you gave no such service or customer service. I will never ever in my whole life ever recommend this establishment. Shame on you for ever opening a hotel in Anchorage. Worse customer service I've ever experienced. read more

This Marriott was nice, but not what I expect for the price. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. However, the room was lacking in the amenities I expect from other Marriotts (no robes in the closet, no book with room service menu/hotel info, etc.). The internet is expensive, slow and can be difficult to get a connection. On-site valet parking is $25/night, or you can use the meters nearby. I'm also disappointed in their restaurant/lounge. There are no hours or menu on the website. It does say its open for 'breakfast, lunch, and dinner'. However, when I went at noon it was closed. read more

I booked a room with a free night, and had to cancel because of a huge winter storm. I cancelled two days ahead which was their requirement (those most hotels cut slack based on circumstances like that) but they still charged me a lot of money. There was no sympathy or help from Marriot, they just stole my money and laughed about it. read more

3.5 stars. I've stayed at the other Marriots in town and they have fridge/microwave in room along with complimentary breakfast. I assumed this one would as well but it doesn't. This didn't ruin our stay, just surprised us. The staff here is very friendly, everyone willing to help and offer amenities. The pool is nice size and there's a decent exercise room with free weights and cardio equipment. The valet parking is very convenient and if you call before leaving your room they'll have your car ready by the time you get to lobby. The restaurants weren't very good. Had chicken for dinner and it tasted like it was in the freezer too long and was overcooked. My sons cheeseburger looked great and he loved it. The next morning for breakfast had the eggs Benedict. Benedict sauce tasted sour and was congealed on the plate. Hashbrowns were obviously frozen and still in a round flat shape, they were cold and watery. My son had pancakes and said they were great. Service at both restaurants was wonderful, just not the greatest food. The proximity to downtown is by far the best feature. We walked around and had the rest of our meals downtown. We would come here again for short stays but will probably pick a hotel with a fridge and microwave for longer stays. read more

I was here for the Great Alaskan Shootout basketball tournament and I can tell you the service here was top flight. Professional and friendly. I was upgraded because of my status...but my room was excellent....odd to have a fridge and no microwave though. Housekeeping was on point quick and early which I love. Valet was prompt, room service great. Stuck here for thanksgiving I was expecting the worst but found the best! An outstanding turkey dinner with all the fixings at a Reasonable price. tip, Ask for a water view, though my mountain view was nice... Well done Marriott Anchorage! read more

1/17/18 update. Quote from web site - "Guest bathrooms will be upgraded, 1/22 - 4/30. Work activity may be noticed." Don't know the impact, just be aware. We were here in February 2017 for the Iditarod. It is an old hotel and really needs to be updated. During our five day stay we observed the same dirty glasses set outside of rooms in the hallway and room service trays were left in the hall for almost 24 hours. This is an indication that housekeeping was not paying attention and obviously not vacuuming the public areas. Our room was satisfactory. This was booked through a tour company, we provided the front desk our Marriott Rewards card for free wi-fi but since they couldn't find it on the computer we had to fill out an application. read more

It started out bad but got better. We checked into the hotel and were given the room. When we walked in we smelled cigarrette smoke. The bellman agreed. We called the front desk and were given a room with two double beds-I guess that's all they had left-we got in at 11pm after a train ride. This room was nice same views but it sounded like we were underneath the roller coaster at NYNY hotel in Las Vegas. It was the elevator I sleep with earplugs and it was still loud. I spoke with the front desk agent the next day and asked to be moved. We were sent to a new room on the concierge floor. Same great view and this was perfect. The AM front desk agent was great and dealt with this without giving us a headache or making us feel bad. We're gold members at Marriott so we visited the concierge lounge. Good breakfast. The lounge was clean and well apointed. I would stay here again. The first room not their fault. Probably should have been deep cleaned before reselling and the previous guest should have been charged a lot of money since all Marriotts are non smoking. read more

This is for the restaurant only. If they could receive negative stars they would. Myself and two friends were attending a conference in the hotel and went to eat at their cafe. We ordered from the expedited menu. They were not overly busy as only half the table were occupied. The waiter told us our food would be out right away at half an hr wait. We sat waiting for one hour and never received our food. Highly upset. read more

Valet & front desk were er, a little missing with their faculties when I arrived - um, next day too. Since i was only there to ck-in, sleep & promptly ck-out, who cares? Stayed 8/8-8/18 requested a fridge and filled it with take out food and water. Left for 24 hours and when I came back, my fridge was gone and so was my food. The manager was extremely sweet and offered graciously to buy me dinner for the "inconvenience." I accepted her kind offer. At dinner, I ordered nachos which were off the bar menu that said they would be ready in 10 minutes, 49 minutes later we had to ask the server where the food was. When it came it clearly had been sitting in the window for a long time. It was cold, the chicken was dry and it didn't have salsa or pico as described in the menu. The restaurant manager apologized, but said if we reorder the nachos it would take another 49 minutes. He did offer to pay, but since the meal was free, it didn't mean much. The restaurant was slammed. They had 2 servers and a manager taking care of the tables. I did ask them to make a tuna melt and they graciously did, but everything was cold and the cheese was not melted. At breakfast I asked for mozzarella cheese in my omelette, the man at the omelette station didn't speak English very well and said they didn't have any. When I asked the server, she went into the kitchen and got some for me. The omelette cook dumped the cold cheese in an folded the omelette and gave it to me. Breakfast at the Marriott is $22, this is incredibly bad service. The manager did offer to pay for breakfast. Bottom line is that The Marriott needs to get their act together. Their food service is horrible. Giving things for free does not make up for bad food and poor service. I have stayed here several times and there is always issues with food service. read more

We definitely enjoyed this hotel. They were nice enough to upgrade us to a hospitality suite since both my partner and I were working from the hotel and taking conference calls all day. They were a little slow with service. We had to request extra pillows three times before they finally brought us the three extra pillows we wanted. The room service was a little slow. The people taking the orders got our order wrong on two separate occasions. Both times they substituted the dish we ordered with a similar sounding dish. I don't think it was a language issue, but they seemed to be very overwhelmed with requests in general, so these were just minor mistakes. The front desk manager (I think) was very apologetic, and called at one point to apologize for the mistakes and offered me extra points - which was nice - but not necessary. Every staff member we encountered, from the front desk to the valet, room service and even the housekeepers, were extremely friendly and welcoming. The property itself is very well maintained (maybe recently renovated?), extremely clean, and had great amenities. I would definitely recommend this hotel, they went out of their way to make up for the minor hiccups we experienced, and if back in the area again, I would certainly return. read more

Usually, I love my Marriott. I've stayed in LA, San Diego, San Francisco. This time, in Anchorage, not so much. The TV cable was out. I understand this can happen. The desk people told me I could watch TV in the lobby. That is not what I paid for. Additionally, the hot tub was covered by plants, mostly fake. My husband and I stayed at this hotel last weekend, on a get-a-way. Marriott is my favorite hotel by far but I've never seen a Marriott like this one. Old, outdated, foyer furniture was torn (see pic), no microwave, portable frige upon request only and it was too tiny to actually hold anything. Great bay view but the window was too dirty to see or even take a picture of it. The average cost of a Marriott hotel stay is about $200 a night but this place was so not worth it. read more

I have stayed here a few times on business trips. This most recent stay there was a leak and the water was shut off from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM. I had an early flight to the North Slope that morning and the water never heated up before I left and I didn't get to take a shower. Management sent me an email, apologized for the inconvenience and had a fruit and cheese plate with two beers sent to my room when I returned a few days later. On top of that they gave me points for a free night stay. I didn't even complain which was the surprising thing. Top notch management at this hotel. They have my business from now on. read more

I love this hotel. I got a room on the fifth floor as part of a Royal Caribbean Cruise and tour package and the view was beautiful. The room and the bathroom were absolutely pristine, spacious and modern. The beds were clean and so comfortable with nice clean sheets and pillows. The staff was very helpful. The location is right in the heart of downtown Anchorage. I would stay here again without hesitation. read more

Just checked in, settled and thought maybe I should put down my first impression of this hotel. In general, it's aiight, definitely not worth the price I'm paying per night. It's been recently renovated but all in all the hotel is still really old. The decor, the color of the carpet, the sink, the tub, the closet... everything seem like antiques. Maybe I'm too used to the modern hotels in bigger cities..... oh well it's not like I have a ton of choice here. Update: After spending a night, I found their bed quite comfortable, not the Westin Heavenly bed of the world but good enough that I got a good night rest. I'm going to add one more star for it :) Another Update: The front desk is NOT helpful at all. No one understands their own reservation process. Supposedly I'm on the wait list for the following week but no one knows where the list is maintained and one gal even asked me to just book at another hotel. No reservations. No problem getting a room. Note: off-peak season (this was a March stay). I had driven down from Fairbanks to spend a day in Anchorage. Having arrived in Anchorage at around 6:30 p.m.; I used the Yelp app to look for a fairly priced/decent hotel without a reservation. Because I had a car, I also wanted a hotel with no or small charge for parking. I narrowed my search to the Marriott so I called to inquire about rooms and rates. The hotel staff that answered was very helpful, stating rates; I inquired about discount rates and he offered me the corporate rate since the hotel was no busy. Ten minutes later we pulled into the valet and in 15 minutes after the call we were in a very nice room facing downtown and the bay. Everything about this room was great. It was clean, it was comfortable and it had great view. Moreover, it is centrally located - walking distance to all of downtown attractions. The staff is very warm and welcoming. read more

I thought the rooms were pretty. There is a buffet downstairs and the omelets were great. The staff was very sweet and helpful. We stayed at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown only one night as part of a cruise package, so I can't honestly give my opinion on value - nor did I have to deal with the staff. What I do know it that it was a very nice, comfortable room and we really enjoyed our stay. It was also in a great location and easy to walk to shops and restaurants downtown. I also felt very safe in this area. WiFi is rather pricey if you would like to use it in your room...It's free in the lobby!! Very nice Marriott and it's located right downtown which is a good and a bad thing. Within walking distance to many restaurants and bars but very close to the train station which seemed to attract a lot of homeless people. The rooms were nice and clean with great views. Sign up for the rewards program or you'll be spending $15/day on Wi-Fi. The work out facility is nice and clean with a big indoor swimming pool. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. read more

I stayed at the anchorage Marriott downtown for 6 nights while I attended a conference at the Denaina center. During this time I had my truck in their parking area thinking this would be safest. Well this was just not so. Apparently during my stay they Valet had pulled my truck 4 times for someone else to drive without my permission and without my ticket which they claim they would have needed to see this from me. When I asked for my truck this morning (February 14) the valet brought me my truck with a large dent on the rear quarter panel. Then they started telling me it was pulled four times as I'm filling out my claim papers. I told the manager I will not stay there again if this is what they do with guests vehicles. So if you are planning to stay at the Anchorage Marriott downtown don't bring your vehicle to leave in their care. The manager didn't seem to care my truck was damaged. read more

This is a clean and comfortable hotel. The staff are very professional and always smiling. The check in process was quick and we love how spacious our rooms are. There are 2 restaurants on site and offer traditional food options. We were able to enjoy the heated pool and were the ones using the pool each day. The shower is very nice and is large enough to fit 2 people. I gave it a 4 because I wish there was a refrigerator in the room. The other thing is the room we chose was to have 2 queen beds (which is how reservations described it at check-in) but it's actually 2 full size beds. Otherwise, it was a relaxing stay. read more

The staff and location are great, we were able to check-in quickly and get around downtown Anchorage with no problems, but the room isn't worth the price that we paid. We had a "mountain view" room that overlooked some buildings with just a sliver of mountain in the background. I did appreciate the curtains being able to block out the Alaskan sun though. Wifi is expen$ive and the fitness center was pretty disappointing (a few treadmills, ellipticals, and free weights). Not sure I'd stay here again. read more

It's a pretty old property- "long in the teeth" as they say.... It's super friendly staff makes up for less than shiny sparkling new finishings. The hotel has conferences and tourists on cruise ships flowing thru. Convenient location in anchorage and a concierge desk knowledgable about the area and things to do. The exec lounge is a must to get quick substantial nibbles before long train rides to Seward or the drive to Denali. If u are not into taxidermy much of anchorage will not be ur cup of tea. The outdoorsy culture here is animal friendly on and off the plate. (The wifi is spotty and very slow - remember u r not in the lower 48 and its better than dial up.) read more

If you are expecting the normal amenities of a Marriott... This is not the place for you. I travel often for business and choose Marriotts because they are good, reliable hotels. I'm not expecting luxury but I do expect clean, updated and good quality service (and typically a Stabucks in the lobby is the bonus!) I would say this particular Marriott did not meet Marriott standards at all. I would even question if they are truly owned by Marriott at all. The rooms were very worn out, ragged smelly carpets, and less than average customer service. And no Starbucks or any other true cafe for that matter. If you have low expectations for a night or two, it might be okay (on someone else's dime) but not worth the price you're going to pay. I would not stay here on a family vacation. They either need to up their game or significantly lower their price. The only perk for this hotel is their vicinity to all downtown attractions and restaurants. read more
