I gave it a slight move up to Herdez. I ordered a green chili pork chimichanga. There was little pork and what there was was tough. The beans were undercooked and still crunchy but they made sure the menu has cutesy word plays on we don't know which of the 96 genders we are. The restaurant was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you. This is the second restaurant bust in a row I've had in Flag. I can only conclude that the high reviews are from college kids that are clueless on what good food and a good restaurant should be. read more

The food was great. Service was nice. The issue we have with this place is their lack of attention and communication. We dined Feb 1 and had forgotten my beige hydroflask. I immediately tried calling multiple times once I realized it was missing. The number provided on yelp went straight to voicemail. We were on the way to Grand Canyon and back to Denver. I had emailed and hoped to receive a response to possibly recover the item but had no luck there either. fast forward, we travelled back to Arizona from Denver and made a stop to this place on the 14th of Feb to try to retrieve it but it was gone. someone had stolen it and i'm just so upset!!! had their phones worked or received a response from them via email, there would've been a better chance for my water bottle to return. My kids had the Gringo and the Banana split French toast, they both liked that as well. No complaints here, coffee was great also. Our server Gavin was awesome! He was so friendly and answered all our questions, he checked on us throughout breakfast and we never had to ask for refills on coffee as he always had a pot in his hand. Our lodging recommended this restaurant. We were not impressed. At all. Chips and salsa are not served (like we are used to at our favorite Phoenix & Tucson spots). There was another long wait to first place our drink order, then our food order. We waited so long for our drinks that our food came out at the same time. We would have liked to enjoy our drinks with some chips and salsa before our meal. However, Martanne's charges $7.95 for chips and salsa! I understand trying to make-up for decreased margins, but that felt like price gouging. I've seen other restaurants add $1 - 2 for chips,, but this was unreasonable. For how long we had to wait, they should have given them to us for free! Our food was just average. With so many Mexican restaurants in Arizona, this food was unremarkable. My tamale was so bland that I asked for something to spice it up and was charged extra for a tiny side of gooey chile sauce. A charge of 4.5% of our bill was added because we used a credit card - way to nickel & dime your guests! Local friends had told us that Martanne's was great, but that was definitely not our experience. We won't be back. read more

We had a late lunch/early dinner here during our visit to Flagstaff. Our food was delivered quickly and was pleasing to the taste. Still, we had an incident that we felt was not handled as well as it could have been. After we received our entrees, a person in our group of six asked for extra salsa. Our server accidentally spilled all three salsa containers on two people in our group (myself included). The server quickly tried her best to wipe off the salsa which was in one person's hair and all over the clothing of two of us. Her cleaning attempt was a fail. We had to go to the restroom and do our best to wipe off as much as possible. It was too much to get off even then. We had to wash our clothes (and hair) when we got back to our Airbnb. The server offered nothing beyond "don't move" as she wiped off the salsa and a "you have a lot of salsa on you" comment. While I wouldn't have necessarily expected our entire bill to be comped, comping the meals of the "injured" parties or offering dessert or SOMETHING would've been greatly appreciated. As for the food, like I said, it was tasty. We pretty much finished our food. In my case, I misunderstood the menu and wound up ordering the wrong meal. That was my bad and I don't fault the server for that. I thought I was ordering the chilaquiles, but I ordered a combination of an enchilada and a tostada. I thought I was ordering chilaquiles and an enchilada. Overall, our server was attentive but her handling of the spilled salsa left us feeling meh about the place. We love to eat out. And we love great service as much as great food. She made us feel some type of way about the incident. She acted like "Hey, stuff happens" and that should be ok with it. It's rare for me to visit a restaurant I would so no to returning to for a second shot but this is one I won't ever return to. Per the small location and festive decor, I was looking forward to visiting this mom and pop type establishment upon walking in. I was was quickly disappointed when my family group of 9 was crammed into a table near the street side of the restaurant that would have more appropriately fit a group of 6. To boot, there were other tables they could have pushed together to have accommodated us more appropriately. Or service was less and our server was not at all proactive to help keep our too-small table decluttered. Next, we were shocked to find it was $5 per basket of chips and salsa. PER. The carne asada burrito I ordered was okay enough but certainly lacked the carne asada. Very little meat. My 2 year old granddaughter had Mac and cheese that came with a side of corn. The corn came out, still slightly frozen, in the small dish. My daughter, who had order chilaquiles, found that the chips used in her dish weren't even the restaurant style chips...they were Mission White Corn Tortilla Chips, at best. In addition to the, the tortilla she received with her food also looked like a store bought Mission tortilla. At least my burrito had a decent tortilla! When we were finished and asked for 2 to-go containers, we received two paper plates with two small precut square pieces of tin foil. What?! When we received the bill, we noticed a 3.5% service charge. My son-in-law asked what this was for and the server told him it was the fee for credit cards. Who said we were using a credit card?! Very disappointing experience. Will not ever return to this restaurant. read more

I've got to say, for as many fab dishes available on MartAnne's Breakfast Palace menu, from breakfast to lunch to dinner they offer my all-time Mexican-style breakfast favorite and super tastiest in all Arizona. MartAnne's been voted Flagstaff's Best Breakfast and Best Mexican food in Flagstaff - no wonder! Although they offer many of the traditional eats (which appear to be better than most), with a vast array of selections, all good, like Breakfast steadfast of Chilaquiles, French Toast, Huevos Florentino, Fiesta Potatoes, green chili pork enchilada, all over the place with Burritos, a fave La Chimichanga and so many others. I have to make one outstanding recommendation to anyone in Flagstaff to try, and that is, and I'm certain you'll enjoy it, their JB's Volcano! Legend has it was named after a customer who wanted everything on their plate - and boy does it. This behemoth and fab breakfast configuration is composed of house-made chips, smothered in pork green chile, tasty and tender chorizo, oozing melted cheese, creamy sour cream and perfectly prepared over easy medium egg, completely shrouded in with rice, beans and hash browns to boot, and of course sided by the ubiquitous flour tortilla! You've never had a Mexican-style breakfast like this! And probably can't get it anywhere else in the state. I have yet to find this dish anywhere... it's my personal fave Mexican-style breakfast. Try it, you'll love it. You'll want to come back for more. read more

Generous portions of everything from tasty salsa and chips to Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, and JB's Volcano for breakfast and Tacos, Chile Rellenos, and all foods Mexican. We have never had anything but great meals and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Ambiance too! We especially like the Artwork, with lots of Dia de Los Muertos paintings.
