But, sadly like with so many restaurants that are in high traffic places, there is less emphasis on the quality of the food, probably because they can get away with it. This is called the Chowder Company, and yet the chowder was bleh. There was far too much celery, and the consistency was good kind of like partially cooked oatmeal, rather than chunky creamy NE chowder. If you are in a bind, then this isn't the worst place in the world. But, if you are thinking that you were going to get a vintage New England meal, you might be disappointed. Not bad. Originally came here to try the chowder,because I'm in New England duh, and that did not go as expected. Let's start with the good, the drinks were good, I tried a drink that was similar to an old fashioned and it was delicious, not to mention the glass it was poured in was really neat. We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and it was ok at best, nothing to brag or drool about, and the fish and chips, and again that was ok. Now the chowder. The chowder is as exceptional as it's namesake! The Clam Chowder's texture is just the way I like it/- not too runny and not too thick. I also like the extra ingredients they add to this soup to make it a bit more hearty. This is a local secret, but if you come during a specific time, they sell oysters for $1 each! The Sesame Crusted Pan Seared Tuna Tataki is OMG -- one of the best seared tunas I've had in a long time! It is SO flavorful, but not overpowering. The Seared Tuna is drizzled with a lemon wasabi aioli, served with fried rice noodles and greens on the side. Lastly, the Lobster Mac & Cheese is sinful! Secret gem on Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. It is located at 9 Oak Bluffs Ave. Great Chowder (made daily). We all had it as well as a huge wedge salad on romaine lettuce. Best of all was the service. We had the best server - a delightful woman from Brazil named Carolina (pronounced "Caroleeena". Clam chowder was good, although consistency was somewhat runny. Also was somewhat cold. The extra ingredients did make it taste good. Asparagus salad was good. Service was kind of all over the place, we were being given the same dishes twice or dishes that were given were taken away. We both felt sick after eating one and we are never that picky. The shrimp was green and had such a bad taste. More of a drinking place. Chowder was too thin for me. Clams were very hard. Portobello fries were huge. Why call them fries. Oysters were heavily breaded and hard. Kelp burger was the best option. Service was unprofessional. Brought out soups for all and 3 appetizers that 2 of us were sharing at the same time. We had to decide what was going to be cold when we got around to eating it. Our friend wanted his burger first and got it last. We were almost done eating. Ladies room was a mess. Air dryer broken so there was a wet paper towel roll. I stopped by here this past Friday afternoon with my wife for lunch. We were fresh off the ferry and looking for a place to eat whenever I spied Martha's Vineyard Chowder. Since we happened to be looking for some seafood my wife and I decided to give it a try. It was shortly after 11 whenever we walked in and the place was deserted. As a matter of a fact it would stay deserted throughout our meal and only at the very end did we end up seeing any other customers. In any case the inside was decorated nicely and it felt like a nicer restaurant. For lunch on this day I decided to have a bowl of the clam chowder and then went with the fish and chips. The chowder came out first and ended up being quite good. It was thick and creamy with a crazy number of clams throughout. Once I had finished with that our entrees came out. My cod here was nicely cooked and was hot whenever it arrived at the table and still quite moist. I also really enjoyed the breading that was on it because even though it looked like it may be heavy, it was surprisingly light. If I had to guess they did an flour-eggwash-flour breading which is simple but works really well at times. I also used some of their tartar sauce here on the fish which had a nice flavor to it. Finally the fries here were seasoned nicely and were cooked crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. While I do question why there weren't more people there in the day that we were there, all of the food was good. read more

The bar tender had a horrible attitude and seemed annoyed when we asked to order food and drinks, the food took over 30 minutes and the drinks took about 15 minutes. She never once checked in with us to see how we were doing with our food and we waited 20 minutes until finally flagging someone down to cash out and leave. Dark & dismal. Server took 15 minutes to get drinks & the place was dead. Chatted with his buddy at the bar instead. Messed up my order. ( brought rare tuna out when specifically said did NOT want it rare.) Rice was undercooked, still hard. I tried two new seafood items here - lobster n oysters. No regrets, guess I've started at the right place. Oyster shooter was simply amazing. We arrived off the am ferry and were 'hangry'. So happy we stopped here. The service was amazing from recommendations on kids portions versus adult size, etc. the cod fish sandwich was honestly one of the best I have had and I live in Massachusetts! The chowder was heavily black peppered, so much so that that became the dominant flavor and added a grittiness to the texture. And I also only made it a few spoonfuls in beforei realized I was crunching on some grit that had the texture of sand! The rest of this container went in the trash and I won't order chowder from there again. This place has some of the best food ever. I came with friends for dinner. I tried the scallop ristotto and the tuna tartare, both are outstanding. I would come back for the scallops again and again. I also tried the sea food chowder, what I like about it is it isnt as creamy as the rest of the offerings on the island and has lots of veggies in it. The place looks like a big bar- doesn't really stand out in terms of look/ decor but it's a solid option. My friend has a number of allergies and they were great with her, told her what she could and couldn't try and kept checking with the kitchen. I ordered the swordfish and it was overcooked. It came on a bed of creamy pasta that was delicious. The service was friendly but they didn't check on us often enough. The ambiance in the restaurant was very dark and I think what kills the feel is this long bar at the entry. It was filled and felt more like a sports bar. It's right there in the fancier dining room so it throws off the fancy vibe. So overall not worth the money we paid but the pasta was really good. read more

Super tasty and worth the price! I tried out the lobster Mac and cheese and it was soooo good! I am not a huge fish fan but really enjoyed the lobster! I also had some wine which was great 9oz for $12. My kids ordered the chicken fingers and fries which also came with a drink for only $8. My two kids split it so it wasn't too bad. This was tough for me to rate because I have had really great experiences here and then not so great experiences. Don't order a mixed drink here!!! The lobster roll is fantastic, I thoroughly enjoy the lobster with the truffle fries, I've had it many times, and it's always good. My favorite here is the clam chowder, it is like no other I have ever had, and it's phenomenal. Everything in the chowder is very finely chopped and it goes together amazingly. It's not a super thick chowder and not too thin, the consistency is perfect. I usually add a little tobacco in it to give it some zing, but it's just the best chowder I've ever had. Grab a lobster roll, a bottled drink, and some chowder and you'll be set! There is limited amount of seating outside, so it's more of an indoor restaurant, maybe check it out on a rainy day or not so sunny day when you want to sit indoors. read more

Came here twice both times I visited Martha's Vineyard. Ordered the clam chowder and the lobster roll. For both these two items, some of the best I've had. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious and didn't skimp on the clams. The lobster roll, while pricey, was stuffed with fresh lobster with pieces of bacon. I wasnn't sure about bacon in the lobster roll previously, but it adds a nice kick to it that just makes it overall delicious. Would recommend this place if your visiting! read more
