My husband's birthday happened to land on Mother's Day this year and 2 days before Mother's Day I decided I wanted to surprise him by taking some birthday treats to his job since he was working a double! I tried pre-ordering at Porto'a but they had already stopped taking pre-orders so then I remembered I also lived close to Martino's! It had been a while since I had their tea cakes and I used to eat them often here growing up in Burbank, so i know they're amazing! I decided to buy them the day before since they were closed on Mother's Day and luckily there wasn't a line when we got there! I bought this dozen for my husband and my cousin bought 2 dozen to take to Mother's Day. Although the tea cakes are delicious, I took off one star because their customer service is severely lacking. No one greeted us when we walked in, not one smile, no enthusiasm. I asked questions on pricing and adding writing to my dozen and I felt like I was bothering them by asking. They do charge $1.50 for writing which isn't much, but it's not like the writing is actually that good, so it should just be included because of that. Other bakeries don't charge to write Happy Birthday. The cakes are $49.99 and look delicious though! There aren't a lot of outlets, but there weren't a lot of people when I was there on a weekday afternoon either. You can get really tasty and cute snacks here for really good prices. I got an iced coffee, a Spinach Croissant, and even a totally impulse buy Cake Pop for $10 total. The croissant was hearty, delicious, and filling. I knew I wouldn't REALLY need the cake pop, but just look at the damn thing. Seeing that through its window is like going "just to visit" a cute puppy you're thinking about adopting. Once you see it give you those big ole "Love meee" cake pop eyes, you can't really resist, can you? Out comes the wallet, you suckered me in. All in all a great place. Andrea at Martinos has been not only helpful, fair, and accommodating but incredibly creative when it came to my daughter's birthday cakes three years running. I wish I could find the unbelievable pictures of the "Frozen" birthday cake, but you'll see attached the magnificent "Nightmare Before Christmas" party cake attached. I cannot tell you how beautiful and delicious it was. They have always stepped up when I asked for next to the impossible... Wanted buttercream taste but with a fondant design. Just a few days ago, I was nearby at Quenelle grabbing some ice cream and remembered Ailyne H's review and check in a few days ago at this bakery. I decided to pass by to taste the teacake hype. Martino's is an Italian bakery located just around the corner of Magnolia and Victory that's been around 1926. What is a tea cake?? In my opinion, it's a cross between a muffin and cupcake but square. There's a few flavors: original (buttermilk), blueberry, and cranberry. They also have cupcakes of different flavors and frostings which are also square and some round too. Martino's also makes an assortment of Danish, cakes, eclairs, cream puffs, gelato, cookies, bunt cakes, cannoli. Tea cakes are $1.00-$1.10 each. Pretty good and great with a cup of tea or coffee. Honestly, they're good but I wouldn't drive out to get them. If you're in the area, it's worth a trying and taking half a dozen home. Martino's has a seating area with a TV. Great for the older folks to hang and read a paper. They do serve their deserts at local restaurants, mainly diners, for example, one of the original Bob's Big Boy which is close by. read more

The original teacakes are moist but too sweet for me. I usually scrape off the top glaze but I still find it too sweet in my liking. I prefer the blueberry or cranberry teacakes. I admit that I haven't tried anything else other than teacakes but Martino's sell a lot than just tea cakes. They have pastries, cupcakes, cakes and gelato in all different flavors. Comfortable couches, table and chairs are provided for seating convenience. They have free WiFi so you can actually use your laptop while enjoying the sweets with either tea or coffee. They also have a mini outside patio by the entrance. Unfortunately, the patio set has no top cover so it's exposed under the sun. As a result, no one sits there when sun gets too hot. read more

Tea cakes. Tea cakes. Tea cakes. Yes they have other pastries, cakes, and breads; but come for the tea cakes. I've never had such a delicious breed of corn muffin mixed with cupcake. Actually I don't even really know how to describe it's taste. They have a thin layer of sweet lemony icing and the bread itself is super moist and sweet. I dropped a friend off in Burbank a week or two ago and decided to visit a random bakery for the heck of it since I'm never in the area. So glad I did because Martino's is a gem! From the outside, you probably wouldn't think too much of it. When you walk inside the bakery, you probably still wouldn't think too much of it. When you're browsing the various goodies in the display cases... you get the point. But order an original teacake, and it will be ALL you're thinking of! The lady that helped me was super sweet, and the tea cakes she boxed for me were mouthwatering delicious. Sweet, super moist, and cheap! I took a few bites in the car in the parking lot and decided to walk back into the bakery to order some more for friends and family. Was the lady surprised to see me? No. She's probably used to it. DO NOT TRUST THEM TO MAKE YOUR CUSTOM CAKE. I debated whether or not to write this review, but since they recently showcased a naked cake on their IG feed, I feel like people need to know the truth. I was a long-time customer of Martino's and had ordered multiple custom cakes from them in the past, with no major issues. However, my latest experience on July 7 made me never want to go there again. Back in June, I had Martino's create a naked cake for a baby sprinkle. It was gorgeous (see photos). Fast forward to July, and I asked for the exact same cake for a bridal shower (I even attached a photo of the cake that they had made back in June as an example). When I went to pick it up, the cake they presented me with was ATROCIOUS (see photos): - The icing wasn't smoothed - There were chunks missing out of the icing - The fruit was bleeding onto the cake - The cake was uneven - The color was not correct The worst part was that the owner (on the phone) refused to give me a refund because she said that she had seen the cake and it was "perfectly fine". UM NO. A blindfolded child could have done a better job decorating. Another customer who was in line saw my cake and even she asked WHAT IS THAT? The owner refused to talk to me. She kept insisting to the staff that it was perfectly fine. It took a LONG while for the staff to convince her to finally give me a refund. WHAT kind of customer service is that? To pretend that a horribly decorated cake is "perfectly fine"? To not even acknowledge that oops - we screwed up... here's how we can fix it... The owner was so incredibly rude that it left a horrible impression. Which is sad because I like supporting local businesses and Martino's WAS a family favourite. The only positive thing about this whole experience is the staff. They figured out a replacement cake solution because they understood how terrible the "naked" cake was and what a predicament the owner put a long-time customer in. read more

The tea cakes are amazing but I just payed for a 7$ cold ham and cheese croissant where I can go down to my local donut store and get a fresh ham and cheese croissant for 2.95$ the best part of my sandwich was that they literally cut the croissant in half and put cold cheese and ham on but don't microwave or toast it for you. This bakery is mostly known for the their tea cakes. I use to go here a lot when I went to JBHS since it is only a mile away. They open pretty early and close around 6:30pm. They use to be 85 cents per tea cake, but now are $1 each. Their blueberry and cranberry tea cakes are $1.25 even though the sign says $1.05. Hopefully the store updates that soon. The pastries are pretty sweet, especially the tea cakes. I do recommend eating it with hot tea so it is not too sweet for those who don't want something taste that sweet. I tried coming here last week Thursday and they already closed 15 minutes before the time posted to be closed. I recommend coming anytime between 6:30am to 5pm just incase. Best tea cakes I've ever tasted (it is what they're known for), $.80-.85 ea! =) Well their famous tea cake flavor is the buttermilk! And mmmm is it sooo good! It goes really well with milk. I was encouraged to visit Martino's for the tea cakes, and I did my research before visiting the bakery and was intrigued on the history and the path that Martino's has taken over the past 100 years. However, I can't say I would come back. Yes, the variety is there. Sizes and appearance of baked goods are impressive, as are the prices. But where Martino's fall short is it in flavor. We tried the jalapeño croissant. The cream cheese filling made it reminiscent of a jalapeño popper. It was also over baked and had a slight burnt flavor. The chocolate croissant was filled with a chocolate paste that was mixed with something else. The quality of the chocolate filling is poor and the texture, off putting. The apple danish tasted like something from Hostess. The filling tastes canned. It's lacking flavor. I missed cinnamon. Tried a strawberry cupcake with cream cheese icing. The icing was sickeningly sweet, but surprisingly the strawberry cake had great flavor but unfortunately, it was also very dry. Finally, the world famous tea cakes. I'm not understanding the attraction, but these sweet little cakes are sort of on the boring side. They're reasonably priced and mine was moist, but there was nothing about them that makes them special. I chose the original, but maybe my experience would've been different if I had tried a Cranberry or Blueberry version. The place is a little tricky to find, but it is quaint, and has very little seating. The staff was very friendly and the variety is excellent. I just wished I had gotrthat unique bakery experience in the taste. I read Martino's did wholesale products for Pepperidge Farm. To me, I feel like this is where the bakery still is today. It was such a staple in my childhood and my Father who worked in Burbank would always bring us those delicious tea cakes that Martino's is so well known for. I was in Burbank and had thought about those tea cakes, on a whim I looked up the company name and low and behold their it was their address and location less than 3 miles from where I was at. I had to go there and get some goodies as my father had always called it. I let my best friend know and she of course wanted some tea cakes as well. I purchased cookies, danish and the special tea cakes and I must say from the first to last bite, it was nothing but JOY and GOODNESS! Whenever in the area, we would stop by and get some for ourself and some for family and friends. We drove 35 minutes to go to Martino's today. We bought 8 dozens (4 dozens and 8 half dozens) to give as gifts. 5 dozens were stacked on top of each other in 1 bag and 3 dozens placed in another bag. This is the only place near me where I've found real Creme Horns and Creme Puffs that were light. A lot of places have dense Choux Pastry drenched in egg wash. I ordered online. Parked with no problem and found my way out of the parking lot just fine unlike the challenges some have had. Turn right into the alley then hang a left at the car wash. You're not forced to go into it. The only issue for me is that it's only four miles away, reasonably priced, and hassle free. My gym still isn't open and I foresee many weekend trips for Creme Horns. Very cute and small bakery. I enjoyed the tea cake and cannoli. They were both very sweet I just wish the cannoli was bigger.

I'll start by saying their original tea cakes are phenomenal although I had an experience here that I didn't appreciate. They had just run out of the original tea cakes at the front counter. I asked the young man behind the counter if they had any more. He let me know that they did have more in the back but they were only sold by the dozen. That was completely fine with me. I ended up ordering a few of the coffee cake tea cakes as ordering a dozen tea cakes for myself is a dangerous game. Then I overheard the woman behind the counter tell him twice in Spanish to pull a few of the original tea cakes from the dozen section and give them to me. I'm not sure if the young man assumed I didn't speak Spanish but he didn't listen to her and then smirked at me when she repeated her request. We then proceeded to checkout and I see tea cakes in the dozen section and it's visible that they've already been pulled from. I drove an hour to get here.
