A Burbank iconic spot. The best tea cakes bar none! They have been a favorite of mine for over a decade. This past Saturday (4/15/2023), I went to Martino's to pick up a very special birthday cake and I was greeted with terrible customer service. The cake was a custom 10inch round, 3-layer carrot cake, with a special design. The three ladies working at the bakery had no idea how to box the cake. Firstly, why would you make a cake of a certain size if you didn't have the means to package it properly! At first, they put the entire cake into a square sheet cake cardboard bottom with NO top. They handed the cake to me without a top/cover at all. I ask them to put some kind of cover over the cake. I was not about to drive around with a cake that wasn't properly covered. So, the ladies came up with this lovely design. The just taped and stapled another square sheet cake cardboard across the top (like a dome). But they didn't stabilize the cake so it immediately slid to one side and the top of the icing was smushed!!! The cake had not even left Martino's yet! I told the lady that it was a shoddy job and she continued to walk out of the bakery with the cake towards my car. She put the cake into the back of my car, said "have a nice day" and walked back inside the bakery. $300 for this cake and that was the best Martino's employees could do! I can't speak for any of their other baked goods, but I'd suggest you pass on the pecan pie. We had it yesterday for Thanksgiving and it was, at best, average. I'm originally from the South and have eaten many versions of pecan pie over the years. The pie from Martino's was just not great. The pecans were finely chopped and something (flour?) was incorporated into the filling to thicken it, making it gummy and unpleasant. read more

A new baby girl brought utter joy to our family, and when I asked the new Mother if there was anything she would like, with no hesitation she said Martino's! I travel all the way from Riverside. I grew up eating Marinos bakery and it brings back great memories.

Good tea cakes here at Martino's. A dozen will cost you $15.60. They also have blueberry and cranberry tea cakes but it's best to stick with the original. The blueberry ($1.45) and cranberry ($1.45) ones to me taste like muffins. So it's nothing special. I also got the blueberry scone it was OK nothing wow. Just made my mouth dry. The Danish is ($3.00) didn't taste good. The husband said it tasted stall. And that was baked and eaten on the same day. I also got some chocolate chip cookies (I think $5.) my kids didn't like it but my friend liked it. I myself was not wowed about it but will try a different flavor of cookies. I also got a chocolate chip scone like with sugar crystals on top. I can't remember the name of it. It's probably a small scone. It was OK! Parking is super small. They do have some street parking but not too much. Place is very clean and you can eat inside and chill. I would come back and grab a dozen tea cakes. Maybe try something new. read more

I normally don't post negative reviews, but my family has been going to Martino's for years, but I recently had an experience that will make me never buy from them again, and probably my extended family too. Backstory, I got severely sick with Covid recently. Yes, Covid. I was in bed with a high fever for days. I am still battling many health problems attributed to previous infections. In short, I wear a mask. Last week, I made the mistake of walking into Martinos. The minute I stepped through the door, one of the three women whispers to the other & started to fake cough, loudly and forcefully, in the air. It was a performance! To be fair, the nice young lady she was talking to looked very embarrassed as the other woman slinked away. I don't want to be sick. I don't want to let Covid control me. I don't want to live in fear. BUT, I made a choice, to protect myself from getting SICKER. I lost people I love to this insidious virus and I have battled my own health. More to the point. This was NOT a teenager, or even a young adult. This was a full grown woman. I don't know if she family, or perhaps a manager, but because of her, I will never darken this establishments door again. read more

We made the trip out specifically for the tea cakes, and it was absolutely worth it! We ended up getting a half dozen with all 3 types; original, cranberry, and blueberry. They are delicious! Sweet but not too sweet, moist, and perfect with a cup of black tea. The original was my favorite but the other two were very good as well! Went a few weeks ago for the first time and tried a bit of everything. It was amazing! Everything was tasty and fresh. We also ordered a coffee drink which was great. This spot is good. The tea cakes here are amazing. The tea-cakes are what the bakery is famous for. All the other items are pretty good too. We also ordered a birthday cake for my gf recently. I honestly think $65 for a 6 inch is insane but whatever. Won't be purchasing another cake here again. Their old recipe for cakes used to also be better (been coming here for many years). I say no to the cakes but the little goods they have would be a yes for me. They also do have pies. Sadly I have yet to try those out. 4 out of 4 spot for me. read more

We had a birthday at our office and one of our co workers was like oh I know this amazing bakery in Burbank, so we decided to place an order for pick up. We ordered the famous tea cakes, now! I should start by saying I don't like sweet bread and I don't eat cake is just me not a fan but everyone kept saying Shirley try one! So I took one and I placed it in my desk I had my lunch and came back to it at the end of my lunch brace yourself, I took one bite Andy eyes light up I was like omg I need another one for later! I took a second bite and that's when it hit! The tears started rolling down my face and I with confusion looked at my coworker and asked her why am I crying! The flavors are so unique the tea cake was so delicious it made me feel so much love inside I can't describe it without sounding dramatic but I have never in my 30 years of life experience anything like this with food, that tea cake was made with so much love and such unique amazing flavors it made me feel so good! I love supporting local businesses but Martino's is disappointing. The tea cakes are probably the only items worth buying from there if you don't mind paying $2 per cake. I ordered a chocolate cream pie and it was all fake whipped cream fluff. There was absolutely no chocolate flavor whatsoever. A huge let down. read more

Went here a few weeks ago with my family. When we go here we try to snag a few muffin tops, but they usually sell out in the morning and we had come during the afternoon during this particular visit. I guess I hadn't been there for a while since they were now offering gelato. I sampled the Almond Coconut gelato and it tasted like there was a freezer burn after taste, so I decided not to get some. I was trying to be good and Bought only one tea cake for me. I enjoyed my tea cake and coffee, also for Martino's, in the car and had to go back in and buy more tea cakes - for me !! I learned of Martinos tea cakes a long time ago. Apparently JCPenneys use to sell tea cakes many many years ago. I went on a quest of finding tea cakes and found Martinos! It's a drive from where I live in the So Bay. I make it a point to always stop at Martinos when in the area. I pick up at least a dozen for myself. I share with friends because I really shouldn't eat all 12 on my own. The tea cakes are made fresh daily. They melt in your mouth. Pure deliciousness in a small square. Perfect with coffee , tea , a soft drink or on its own .... in the parking lot even before you leave the establishment . The staff is always friendly and encourages you to buy more. Just go to Porto's. The pastries were good but the service will leave a bad taste in your mouth. Don't expect to be greeted and definitely do not ask any questions about what you're buying. Just give them your money and go. Even the bakery itself was dark and uninviting. The only good thing was that the card reader didn't ask for a tip. read more

A little late on this review but I just had to post this because till this day I'm amazed on how horrible the cake was I bought my Mother for Mother's Day. First of all the cake tastes like it was old and had been sitting in a freezer for a while. Second, the decor was just okay. I know I choose the cake but the fresh flowers on the cake weren't that fresh looking. That was my fault for waiting till the last minute to get a cake, I just assumed that Martinos would have the best. Lastly the cake was $45 for a small cake maybe 6 inch. I bake cakes. I have sold my cakes but I make sure my cakes are fresh never frozen and I only use the freshest fruit for filling and I know the cost of cakes and the work it takes. I'm so happy I found this gem. I was looking for a lemon meringue pie for my sons birthday and I called several places and I guess it's the type of pie that isn't made everyday. So you can guess my excitement when they said they had some made. I'm super happy I arrived when I did because 2 people behind me asked for a lemon meringue and I bought the last one. I was very disappointed in this place. I was extremely excited to try this place after hearing about it. I was turned off by their customer service by the owner.Their workers were amazing. The owner would not come out of her office and talk with us. We told her we drove over two hours to get here and to get our order. We wanted to try a bakery that was run by a small business. We were an hour early, and we could see the pies were ready to go. We were told we had to wait till 11. We waited for 45 minutes to get the pie. When we got to the pie counter, the lady running the pie counter was extremely rude and short. Their system for Thanksgiving needs to be rethought, and we reworked. We know the holidays can be stressful and we were very nice and cordal but did not receive the same back. I recommend another bakery for the holidays. read more

This place is truly a sweet little gem in Burbank. I was craving something sweet and decided to come to here. Upon arriving I was worried they were closed because the parking lot was empty. Luckily they were open and I was greeted by the 3 girl employees. Overwhelmed with all they had to offer the employees had made recommendations. I ended up leaving with a Vanilla Cupcake with Chocolate, a Cinnamon Churro Cupcake, a Walnut Fudge Brownie and their famous Original Tea Cakes. When I was paying I noticed that they sold Fabric Reusable Face Masks for their customers! Their Employees told me that they were handmade by the Owner and I thought it was smart of them for offering these. Also it showed to me how much they care about their customers safety and health. I left happy and excited to try more from the bakery. I hope to come back again once everything has settled down. It's important to support our local small business especially during this time.
