I gotta tell ya I was already sold on it cuz that's a rare commodity where I'm from. The staff was pretty friendly. I ended up sharing some gorditas with my mom and getting the cheese enchiladas. The gorditas were pretty fire. The crunch crispy bun combined with the ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese was just a mouth watering delight. The enchiladas were pretty good too. I gotta say this place is definitely not one you don't wanna miss. The food we had was so tasty. I regretted not getting more Gorditas. They were my favorite. The pancakes have a homemade taste and came with some crispy hash browns that didn't taste bad themselves either, while the egg whites were what you would expect them to be. The food isn't bad but I felt it didn't stand out a lot either. Although coming from an early meeting every single one of those elements hit the spot. The service was good and attentive. The parking lot is spacious so if you're going in with hunger knocking loudly on your door it won't take you much to have your car parked and yourself through the entrance. You pay at the end of your meal by walking towards the exit. The tortillas are freshly made there too and you can see it. Don't get me wrong, overall the food was good so if you want to give it a try it is definitely worth it. You can ask for special request on the preparation of your eggs and the ambiance was chill. The Lunch Box is affordable, delicious, has always had great costumer service, and gives you a familiar and comfortable feeling. This is the only Mexican Restaurant I eat rice from because it is delicious. They make hand made their flour tortillas on the spot. The restaurant is kinda hidden so make sure from Montana turn on Buckner. If you like soups and you feel under the weather I highly recommend the chicken soup. She asked for the bacon and really liked it. I ordered mine with sausage and it was very good. Service was excellent and food was out quickly. Their salsa is great. Meal was really tasty. I like this place for many reasons. I remember this restaurant business during its humble beginnings as a small family run home-cooked Mexican food place off of Giles & Carolina streets when I was a child in the early 70's. After moving back to El Paso in 2014, I saw 2 well established locations and a regular daily patronage of customs including my parents who ate there 3-4 times weekly. When I started taking my parents on a more regular basis, it struck me that the environment was a true meeting place of our community- local employees whether white or blue collar for lunch, many retired couples (like my parents), young, old, diverse and everyone in-between. It made me feel home again and reacquainted with my roots and upbringing. The food was unique to the city, and the service team seemed happy and well connected to their customers. I like trying new and innovative menus as El Paso adds to their growing number of eateries, but always having a place to go for true comfort food that represents a heritage and history of El Paso makes me glad to be home after a long career away.... Gross. Ew. I'm not sure how this place stays busy. My food came out wrong. The waitress keyed it in incorrectly. The food was then just luke warm. After having issue after issue I just stop telling the waitress any issues we had. The service was super horrible, not sure if she was a nice waitress or what. But once I have to send back an order twice, that is when a manager should come and apologize. That didn't happen. I get there are times when issues are gonna happen and I never agree to take things off the check, I just want the food to come out right. The lady at the register asked was everything ok, I didn't say yes and she continued to ring me up. My inability to say, yes it was great should have been key that it was not a good experience. I often try a place several times before leaving a review. The Lunch Box has been consistent with superior service and food quality. Tables are spaced apart and the restaurant is very clean. I feel safe eating here for the most part. Tried the combo plates, green chicken enchiladas and Chile rellenos which were all delicious. The beans and rice here are also some of the best. I really want to give this restaurant a 5 star review, but I can't. The food is ok, the usual fare at such a place. It is- to my understanding- a family run restaurant. They have been in business for a long time, and some friends of mine rave about it. I've eaten here before and until this past Saturday, I did not realize that I do not actually like this place. When you walk in, this in-your-face-and-up-your-nostrils smell of dirty carpet and toilet water hits you in the face. There is no carpet, but I imagine the place has not been given a good scrub in years. It's too bad, because it has potential. A good coat of paint, some dusting and some fresh air would help. One of the best Mexican restaurant in ElPaso Texas, all dishes are delicious and priced reasonably. Their menudo is one of the best in town and any other plate you order. Yikes. I mean, yikes. I have been wasting my time and money on breakfast, eating at other places. This is the real deal, folks. Mexican breakfast that pleases the palate AND pocketbook. DON'T FOLLOW THE BIG SIGN OR YOU WILL END UP IN AN EMPTY RECEIVING BAY. I did this. I walked right up to the burly diaphoretic man driving the forklift and said, "Table for one, please." He tells me "No soy su mesero, payaso! El Lunch Box es en la Calle Bruckner, en la siguente calle, buey!" So I walked over a few hundred feet, down Buckner and found a clean exterior, and full parking lot @ 8am (always a good sign). Upon entering, i saw a little room off to the left, where fresh flour tortillas were being made. There was a main dining room connected to a bar area, where I was taken. The dining room is spacious, with tables spaced apart to give each party plenty of distance from the others...here you're never in danger of bumping into other patrons while moving around. I was seated promptly and the hostess took my drink order immediately, which the server (Elizabeth) brought back in under 2 mins, along with homemade salsa and homemade tostadas. I ordered the enchilada breakfast...this, folks is my FAVORITE breakfast. Ever. It's ENCHILADAS MONTADAS!!! And, because I am such a fan of Adobado/Adovado/Chile Colorado, I ordered a cup of that on the side, too. The breakfast took like 5 mins to get to my table. It was fast, hot and delicious. Hash browns crispy. Eggs perfectly done over medium. Refried beans flavorful and not watery. Enchiladas GENEROUSLY filled to maximum capacity with cheese. And the red chile....oooohhhhh...the red chile. SLATHERED GENEROUSLY over the enchiladas. This is perfect red chile--flavorful, and with a bite, but without being spicy. The Chile Colorado had the same chile, but cooked-in. The meat was tender and the dish flavorful, with the mad flavor of cooked-in red chile permeating the dish, throughout. Now, either I looked like I was having a food stroke because it was so good, or the server was amazing at her job, because Elizabeth asked me no less than 5 times "Is everything alright?" I think I may have been able to mumble a few intelligible words in between mouthfuls of food, but she got the jist that everything was VERY good. She worked that dining room the likes of which I've seen maybe a handful of times. Fast, friendly and efficient. Like the energizer bunny with a purpose. And she visited every table as frequently as she visited mine. HEY KIDS!! ATTENTION ASPIRING SERVERS!! WANNA SEE HOW TO MAKE MONEY WAITING ON TABLES?? Come watch Elizabeth work. Coffee was very good, also, and it was refilled like 4 times, which has given me the energy to write this novel of a review. There's very few Mexican restaurants in the area that impress me (mostly because a large number of businesses seem content serving poor quality dishes, but charging a good to high quality price), but The Lunch Box goes against the grain and serves up food that actually appears to have some love put into it. If you're going at lunch during the week, expect a wait. I can only imagine what it's like on a weekend. Luckily for me, Charles was a hop, skip and jump away from TLB so he was able to snag a table before the big lunch rush came. From the exterior I expected something so much smaller, but once I was inside I found a pretty respectable amount of tables with an even more respectable amount of space. No joke, they could probably double up the tables and it still wouldn't feel cramped (I don't want them to add tables, I love it the way it is, I'm just trying to illustrate how much elbow room one has while at TLB). As one could expect from such a packed joint, our server was no where to be found a lot of the time. But she did make the rounds often enough to refill my Sprite, bring the check, and bring me a box for my take-home. She was speedy and I really couldn't ask for more in a waitress since it was so packed. My go-to is always Steak Tampiqueña so... yah, you know I went with it. The plate came out with a little bit thicker steak that what's normal (this immediately made me happy... none of that paper thing crap) loaded up with fried green peppers and onions. The onions still had a bit of a strong bite and could've been fried a minute or two longer, but overall I like this dish. The beans are quite possibly my favorite in El Paso. And although I'm not a fan of Mexican rice, I did find TLB's Mexican rice flavorful. The enchilada this plate came with had a very sharp taste, I didn't hate it, but it wasn't necessarily my favorite. And this all came with a tortilla, guac, "salad", and a vegetable soup. The stock in the veggie soup was good, but I didn't end up eating much since I already had so much food. The price for all this was a little under $11! That's a dang good price! TLB is extremely appealing with it's good priced dishes and delicious eats. And if you can wait a bit in the open waiting room, you'll see what I mean. read more

Saw their sign upon our return from rock climbing at Hueco Tanks. The parking lot was packed, which was a good sign. The place looks small from the outside. It is expansive upon walking in! The hostess sat us, our waitress immediately followed with menus. She came back with salsa & chips and took our drink order. We ordered the combination plate. They have the best enchiladas I've tasted yet. Their chili rellenos were very large & delicious. The flautas were crispy, and the taco was great! This place is outstanding. Came for breakfast. Was so gross never again. Coffee was burnt. Had the red chilaquiles. Red sauce was drowning my plate and the taste was horrible. Ask for eggs over hard but got them runny as hell. Don't think about coming here unless you call ahead or have the time to stand in line/wait. Pros: Filling food for a good price. The (shredded beef) burritos were giant and, when smothered in queso, they look and taste amazing. Adding cheese will cost you $1.99, but it's worth it! My family and I have consistently come here for breakfast on the weekends and we unfortunately had a bad experience this weekend. To be fair, it was pretty busy this morning so I can understand why service was slow but I don't understand why no accommodation were made for the lack of service. Our food took about an hour to receive and the restaurant manager explain that one of our entrees, Gorditas, can take up to 20 minutes to cook. However, the Gorditas were luke warm when we finally got our food. I will probably come back here because I love the homestyle Mexican food but their service needs a lot of work. read more

Let's be honest, this place is not very good. It is edible but just meh....compare to all the Mexican eateries around. Ordered their comida corrida, it was on a Wednesday, so it was Rojas con papas. Bland. No taste. It turned out to be a vegetarian dish, which I have no problem with, but it was just tasteless. As matter of fact, the caldo des res wasn't all that either. My colleagues ordered other dishes, unfortunately the entire group of six agreed that this place was not good. read more
