I came to Marty's Grill after a doctors appointment at Kaiser early in the morning. They had just opened, so I assumed that I was one of the first customers of the day. The man working the register was very welcoming, upbeat, and helpful. The restaurant was very clean, and I enjoyed sitting under the windows. I ordered a philly cheesesteak with potato wedges, and the food was delicious! It was cheesy, a little bit of spice from the peppers, and it paired well with the type of bread used. The potato wedges were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. There was a small miscommunication regarding what food I had ordered, but they were still busy with fully opening the restaurant as I had walked in exactly at 10am, so I didn't mind it at all- we all make mistakes! I was here the other day looking for a good burger, so it was spur the moment going to this place. The most noticeable from entering was how great music was playing , and very friendly staff. Food has been delicious here. I recommend their 2pc chicken tenders and 3pc fried fish combo. I've tried their other items, but I find myself going back for my usuals. Service is great! Just hope they hire more staff as I am sure they are getting busier with word of mouth spreading on how good they are. Low key a hidden treasure that I just stumbled upon, I was really craving a Philly cheese steak and the closest ones where I live was like 20-30 min away so when I seen this spot had it right here in Richmond was perfect, super close to parkway/580 freeway. I bought the Philly cheese steak and had the fries with it , I appreciate my fries being unsalted let's me know they fresh every time and I can choose how much I want to add to them. The Philly cheese steak with the Philly rap music playing in the spot was a vibe man Wasn't too pricy, with the way production and ingredients be costing now a days the prices were fair enough and affordable for me personally and I ain't balling like that lol , $18 and some change got me a combo meal with fries and drink , not bad at all! Our beloved hacienda is gone and Marty's Grill rises from the ashes. The dining room is largely unchanged and was refreshed with a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately the food is lackluster. I ordered the chicken sandwich and boy. The bun was buttered and toasted, soft and pliable, it was definitely fresh. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, but unremarkable. Now to the chicken. Everyone knows the chicken sandwiches of hotboys, the bird, and even Richmond's own Andy's original & loaded chicken. When you order a chicken sandwich you expect a crisp yet juicy piece of either breast or thigh meat. What I received was two chicken tenders in a sandwich. I have nothing against strip burgers but it's just not the same. The fries are standard crinkle fries and were cooked decently but unfortunately they were way too salty. Richmond has no shortage of burger joints, hell even mr pizza man has a decent burger. I saw they plan to offer gyros. I think I might have found the best fried chicken sandwich in Richmond area! This long closed restaurant space recently opened as Marty's Grill. Offering burgers, cheesesteaks, fish and chicken sandwiches and salads. I decided to try the fried chicken sandwich and glad I did! It's exactly the kind I've been looking for. A crispy, well seasoned coating on a juicy filet protruding crunchy nibbles! The brioche bun was grill toasted and the cole slaw was crispy and moist. Okay I'd passed by this place a bazillion times going to Kaiser and never gave it the time of day until Tuesday when I got a wild hair to finally give it a go after some bad news. And I AM SO GLAD I DID. This place has incredibly solid food at a decent price. The gentleman at the window was nice, and everything about the place just seemed chill. I got the Philly cheesesteak, some panko shrimp, and some Mozz sticks (Listen, don't judge, I was just diagnosed with what will become a terminal illness and wanted some fried goodness okay hahaha) and every single thing was on point and delicious. The only thing of note is that the drive through takes a little longer than you'd expect for a drive-thru, but that is because they're making the food fresh. I ABSOLUTELY would not call that a detractor. However if you see a couple of cars in line, might go run an errand and come back, or go inside to place your order.
