I have been a local Here for over 40 years. Pre-pandemic...this place was my favorite dinner "go to" spot. The food has greatly declined and service can be so-so depending on if they are fully staffed. I do take in consideration post pandemic staffing issues...so I think they are doing well in regards to service. Diners need to remember to be patient and respectful! I'm regards to food, it has gotten way pricey for what you get. The Caesar salad is still good but 1/2 the size. The burger is good (usually overcooked so order accordingly) but is outrageously expensive. 5-Star Burger in town is WAY better. Steak frite used to be good but now th ancho sauce is to overpowering. A great place for cocktails, lovely patio but very mediocre food. So sad. I wish they would read their reviews. Just because they are busy doesn't mean they are good ... it means that many restaurants are closed. read more

We had lunch on Marty's lovely patio today. Service was great. Lamb blue corn enchiladas with green chili got two thumbs up. A good northern New Mexico dish. Spicy sesame tuna and avocado wrap wasn't a home run. The wrap is cut into four pieces which makes a striking presentation, but difficult to eat. The tuna was good, but overall the taste of sesame oil was overpowering. It needed some ginger or something more acidic than the seaweed salad garnish to balance out the oil. Absolutely one if the very best restaurants in Taos. Food is perfect every time! Tapas menu has a great variety if small dishes, probably the best Calamari - has a touch of spice. I sat at the bar because I think I was a single person. No problems but I walked through half the restaurant being empty. And maybe with all the Covid issues they didn't have enough help. I get that. Love to give Martyrs more than 5 STARS!!!! Martyrs in Taos is pure class with amazing food and service!!! We were visiting Taos for a few days and deciding where to go for dinner. We wanted a good steak and decided to try Martyrs. So happy we did!! The food is some of the best we had!! We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Dennis & Barbara. They were so welcoming and even took the time to show us around their beautiful restaurant. What a real treat. By the way they offer a great choice of wines. The creme brulee at the end of dinner was so delicous!! It was a lemon/rosemary and I first thought it might taste very lemony, but it was so fresh, creamy and we could taste the rosemary with very slight lemon flavor. I commented to all that it was the best I have ever tasted. The chef is fantastic!!! Thanks for a wonderful evening Martyrs!!! We will be back when in town! read more

Went to Martyrs again last night after having enjoyed the food previously. They had a bad night in terms of service. We were turned away for an hour and fifteen minutes because they were "fully booked" even though probably two-thirds of the restaurant was empty. When we came back ...it was still relatively empty. When we were finally seated it took about fifteen minutes to get our drink orders in. We were then told that the bread was baking and would he out shortly. When it came out it was clearly not freshly baked...it was stone cold. On the bright side the food was,again, very good. I had the French onion soup and lobster. My boyfriend had the wild boar and it was amazing. The desserts were to die for, again! Back to the service...they clearly had a few glitches but the manager came over and they comped a good portion of our meal. We were very impressed with his willingness to try to make things right for us. Despite one night of poor service - the waitstaff and manager made it right with us. And as I've said before, the food here is amazing. I hope they keep this chef for a very long time. We will definitely be back. read more

Went to martyrs tonight about 7:45. Service was very bad. Was seated but waited 15 minutes just for water or anyone to even acknowledge our existence. Finally the waitress appeared. Took our drink and tapas order. 15 minutes later our drinks came out, went to the table next to us. Waiter apologized and comped our drinks to our neighbors. We are now 30 minutes into our visit with nothing but water. The training at this restaurant of wait staff is not good. Not one wait staff even acknowledged our long wait. Staff member after staff member walked past us without even a "we'll be right with you". The hostess was also very indifferent when she sat us. We left after 30 minutes with just water at our table. During a pandemic with restaurants in need of business this is inexcusable!! Maybe that's why they are only 3.5 stars!! Very disappointed. It bothers me to see this I'm a New Mexican. Have had lunch and dinner here. Patio is large and shaded. Food was excellent. Lunch was chili pork stew and tempura fried seafood. Very tasty. Dinner was the haddock special and pork chop. Waitstaff was attentive. Very busy after 6pm so reservations are a must. Some wait to get food as is the norm these days, but food came out hot and had not been sitting. Will come again. read more

We stopped here after visiting the Kit Carson house to get a bite to eat before heading back down to Santa Fe. We got a nice shady seat on the patio, ordered a beer and glass of wine and took a look at the menu. A few minutes later, another person came to ask again what it was we wanted to drink - Oh, we already gave our order. Yeah, well, she's new and didn't actually understand what we requested. OK...a little more training would be helpful. As it turned out, our new waitress had been a bus-girl and was being promoted, so she did have a lot to still learn, and was to be spending the next few days working and learning the bar. So forgiven. And kudos to the owners for promoting within! My husband had the Steak Tartare ($15.00) that is served with a Bacon Aioli. He loved it, the meat was perfectly chopped and seasoned. I had the Sriracha Glazed Chicken Skewer ($13.00) served on a bed of bright yellow Basmati rice. It was spicy and good. Perfect with my Pinot Grigio. While they have a parking lot, it's rather challenging as you only have one way to enter/exit and all the parking spaces are set for easy access on entry, but not so much to back out and exit. This was a happy happy accident on Halloween evening after the Halloween party in the plaza. We stepped in to Martyrs with a party of 5 and were brought to the back casita space. It was so cozy with the fireplace and really lovely light music. We had the room to ourselves for most of the evening. Everything from start to finish was phenomenal, including our waiter Jesus who was dressed to the nines for Halloween! He had great recommendations and the best attitude. Every one of our party ordered something we will be raving about for a while. The Tuscan white bean soup was incredible, as were the salads. The real star was the roasted chicken. Two of our party members ordered the chicken with various sauces and it was hands down the best roast chicken we've ever had. The steak was perfectly cooked, the drink selection was amazing. The best part was the price. A dinner for 5 with wine and drinks were an excellent value. We will absolutely be back every time we visit Taos! read more

It's a beautiful building and oddly laid out actually it's two buildings and you have to go from one building to the next. First building is an old home I'm not really sure what the second one is. Main waitress or person who greeted us was very grouchy and put out it seemed. She never smiled and was seemingly aggravated by anything we requested. So we were so looking forward to dinner at Martyrs. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated quickly. After that it pretty much went down hill. Cocktails ordered and dinner ordered. Over an hour later still no dinner and after cocktails we had ordered a glass of wine... nope still waiting on that too. I think the waitress totally forgot to put it in. Dinner finally arrived and was just ok. The really nice market price lamb was not cooked as ordered but after that long we were not sending it back. The waitress finally stopped by to check and her comment was...."we can finally breath they are all gone". My thought was...I am still here ???? It was a a very big disappointment for us. I could see that some locals really enjoyed it but shouldn't that be for everyone. Not a recommendation in my book. Visited twice, would love to visit again. Salad dressing for the wedge was home made - and an IMPRESSIVE homemade. Herbs and root pico to frame the blank canvas of emulsion smoothness. Excellent quality blue cheese. Up there with the charred lettuce Caesar from a fave small spot of mine. Quarter romaine, leaf it, griddle then sauce ... please consider charring your romaine just a little, gravity brewing in Louisville co makes a mad good one. Tho nobody could find fault with the salad as it stands; I'm just greedy. The beef tartare was a disappointment, but acceptable. Overpriced and underwhelming. First, realize that "a la carte" here means you'll end up paying $30 for a $20 plate of you want anything other than bland, dry bit of meat with no sauces or sides. $13 for a Caesar salad dressed with what tasted like almost pure lemon juice. Had the grilled Manchego wrapped artichoke hearts for an app. Inedibly salty. Tip for the restaurant: if you're going to charge $18 for a 6 oz bit of clearly Atlantic salmon but are going to try to pass it off as "Scottish salmon" it's easier to fake it if you don't wretchedly overcook it. Oh, and maybe trim the browned, wooden ends off the broccolini. The only thing really good here is the service. Very friendly and helpful. read more

While vacationing to Angel Fire we came across this steakhouse so our group decided to try it. Upon entering an empty restaurant at 4:30 PM, we were welcomed by a nice lady named Kelly, who welcomed us in and later took care of us. However, the manager Alfonso made a very rude remark about us not having a reservation while coming in to an empty restaurant. We ordered the strawberry margaritas which were tasty and not too strong (4-5 stars) followed by two entres, the adult grilled cheese (3-5 stars) and the sirloin steak (4-5 stars). The steak was properly cooked properly (medium) and was tasty with a complimentary Peruvian sauce. The mashed potatoes were the best tasting part of the entre. Did not wow me for a 5 star rating but it was a very good entre. The Adult grilled cheese was nothing to impress but not bad tasting either. We finished the meal with a tasty cheesecake (4-5 stars) Overall the meal was good, not great, the service by Kelly was amazing, but the rude comment by Alfonso was extremely disappointing, bringing the review to a 3 out of 5 stars, 3.5 at best. read more

We celebrated my sister's birthday on the outside patio at Martyrs. I ordered a delicious bowl of the pasta carbonara and my husband said his red chile enchiladas were some of the best he's tried thus far. The birthday girl had the steak with the lobster macaroni & cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. Our serve was kind, helpful, and attentive. He even sang "las mananitas" with us! We enjoyed everything about the meal, including the thoughtful wine recommendation and the yummy cocktails. The servings were generous and I definitely felt satisfied from start to finish. We came to Taos to celebrate a friend's birthday and to ring in the new year. Knowing that it would be busy, the birthday girl called two weeks in advance to make a reservation. The male on the other end confirmed us for 6pm. Fast forward to reservation time, New Year's Eve. We arrive, and the hostess was incredibly rude. She informed us that we did not have a reservation, and that she does not have guys who work there. She asked if we were sure we called the correct place to make the reservation, so my friend showed her the phone call. The hostess said we would have to talk to a manager. We wait as the manager comes to the hostess stand and begins erasing and rearranging entries in the reservation book. Finally, she addresses us by saying "we called you multiple times to confirm the reservation and you never answered." According to my friend's call log, she had missed one call from the restaurant and they did not leave a voicemail. We then asked if it was general policy to not leave a message and just cancel the reservation. The hostess replied "obviously not." Fed up, we were lucky enough to find a last minute table at Lambert's. We told the manager, who was still making excuses, that we found a place that could accommodate us and began to leave. As we were walking out, the manager mumbled under her breath, "Good". So. I have given your restaurant one star for two reasons. First, I had one of the most amazing steaks of my life at Lambert's. Wonderful! We lucked out and were able to sit and dine on the patio without being overheated or cold. Attentive servers. Although, we had reservations but had to wait at the hostess station for 10 minutes before anyone came to ask if we had reservations. When she got to us, she did apologize, she was caught up on snap chat. Hmmm, we thought she would have been working. The food was excellent. Whatever you order, you must have the chocolate mousse for dessert! It had blackberries and they were perfect! You will want to check out the menu before going, everything is al a carte, so you'll have to pay for your sides (vegetables etc). If I could give this restaurant a 0 stars I would. We had to send back 3 of 4 steaks back one of which we then had to return an additional 3 times because every time it came back more burnt and more red. The problem is the kitchen not the servers our waitress was very nice and continued to try to fix the problem but after sitting for 2.5 hours it was just absolutely ridiculous. Very disappointing as we had high expectations for this place as we came in for Texas and had heard good things about the place. I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

Servers were nice. However, the service itself was not good. I am unsure if they were under-staffed but the overall experience was horrible. It took too long to get drinks and food, some not at all. All the food was cold when brought to the table. The staff said the cook is having a bad night but no offer to correct any issues. Very disappointing for such a nice place. This was an amazing find. Food was yummy. Atmosphere was relaxing and quite. But the best thing was our waiter Scott. He was the only waiter working He was the best waiter we have ever had. Even with having the entire dining room to himself, we never waited on anything. He def made this experience one of the best we have had at a restaurant. The customer service was nonexistent. 7 tables and 4 wait staff and still 2 hours from start to finish. It's bad when you have to ask multiple wait staff if you could order. When the food arrived, ribeyes, it was cooked wrong. It had no taste and the sides were awful. After a very long day of travel we boxed it up and took it home to season and finish cooking. A steak from Waffle House would have been better and the staff would also. Drive on by this place until they get new staff including the cook. read more

My steak was delicious, but my husband's lamb chop was a bit fatty and the portion pretty small (he had the special). They had a nice acoustic guitarist which was good ambiance. Also, for being a pricey restaurant with white table clothes, I expected better service. We sat there about 10 minutes before being acknowledged even though our server visited the tables next to us multiple times to just check on them (it was enough time that our water glasses were completely empty when he finally came over). And in general, our server was very awkward and abrupt. He also rarely came to check on us despite checking on other tables. We scored an early seat at the bar area. Cocktails arrived after the food order, old fashioned and Manhattan were good strong blends. Steak tartare was a huge portion easily enough as an entree and plenty for two. Lots of capers in the mixture which I like. We accompanied this with a wedge salad. Dessert of bread pudding was badly executed and sent back. It was like chewing a rock but perhaps how they make it round here. This place had us undecided from reading the reviews.... We arrived at about 6:00 PM. Did not have a reservation but we were early enough so it was not necessary. The food was amazing! Great service and casual atmosphere. We ordered calamari and shrimp on skewers for appetizers before our wedge salads and rib eye steaks! Steak was made as requested with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. All this with a nice cabernet. Nice way to end a great afternoon, playing native New Mexican tourists!
