Was craving sushi and finally got to check this spot out. The menu is pretty big for a sushi restaurant which was surprising. The restaurant is small inside but has patio seating. Since we are getting to colder weather this can be a little bit of a problem as the inside will get more crowded. We were able to seat ourselves anywhere and service was really quick. My husband and I got miso soup each and three rolls to share. It was enough food for two people and pretty reasonably priced. I do feel like because it started to get busy we got rushed out to clear the table for more people. While I understand needing the space it could have been dealt with better. The waitress came back to us and just asked if we were ready to pay because we were sitting there talking after finishing our food.

I had tried Maru in East, but hadn't yet tried Maru Nations until a few days ago. After having something to do every single day after work last week, I opted to order in and decided on Maru. I got a miso soup, tempura veggie appetizer, crunch shrimp (which was a BOGO free), and a pink lady roll. I am glad that Maru put the lid on the soup well because it arrived completely upside down, and not a drop spilled. The miso was fine, 2 small pieces of tofu and some green onion. It lack some flavor, even for miso which is typically pretty mild. The tempura veggies only come with 1 piece of each veggie and the asparagus is only 1/2 a stalk - so not the best value only getting 5 items and wouldn't be ideal to share. However, the sauce that came with it was good and had a great level of sweetness. The crunch roll was pretty standard, and needed to be dipped into soy. The Pink Lady roll was my preferred roll. I thought the spicy crab was yummy and enjoyed the sauces on the top. The tuna tasted good as well. Clearly, dining in is always a better experience, but I don't think that would have changed the flavors or portion sizes. Overall, I enjoyed my meal but might order differently next time!

Was craving sushi and found this place via Yelp. Being new to the area and state with my hometown being in California there are amazing sushi places back home that have set my standards high. The drive wasn't too far and there is accessible onsite parking. I walked in and sat at the bar. My order was taken promptly. To prepare the palate I ordered a Sapporo (Japanese beer) and then proceeded to take my time looking at the menu. In the end I ordered two fried rolls and one salmon lover roll. The portions were generous and the sushi was excellent. I liked the sauce and the flavors which added to the sushi. Pros: food is great and the service prompt. Great atmosphere and vibes. The pricing for 3 different rolls and a beer was around 50 bucks so not the cheapest meal but if you're coming hungry and with others or on a date splitting is not bad. Definitely a great sushi place to add to your date night/ catch up or hang out list.

Really enjoyed this casual date night spot. The sushi was pretty good and they had a big selection of different rolls to choose from. We did have to wait about 8-10 minutes before given menus, but they were very busy and once we were greeted by our waiter he was great. We had 3 different rolls. I dined in at Maru Nations - West Nashville on Tuesday, 11/21/23 at 6:30 P.M. The restaurant is conveniently located and easy to spot. Despite it being a busy evening, we didn't have to wait long for our table. Our server promptly provided us with menus and took our drink orders. The modern rustic decor of the restaurant sets a cozy ambiance, albeit a bit loud. Their extensive menu offers a range of sushi and Japanese cuisine that is sure to please any palate. We sampled several dishes, with a few standouts including beef fried rice, hamachi Kama, and a selection of sushi rolls. The beef fried rice was a flavor-packed dish, perfectly cooked with a fried egg, beef, and mixed vegetables. The Hamachi Kama, also known as yellowtail collar, is a tender cut of meat taken from the space between the gills and the head. It is charbroiled to perfection, giving it a slight charred flavor, and served with a delectable house sauce. Each bite was succulent, exploding with the sweetness of the meat. Their sushi options are quite impressive, offering a variety of special rolls, all priced under $20. I tried the Dragon and Tiger rolls, both of which were delicious. The Dragon roll composed of eel and cucumber topped with avocado, eel sauce, and tobiko, while the Tiger roll featured fried shrimp and spicy tuna topped with eel, avocado, and eel sauce. The rolls were well-constructed, remaining intact with each bite, and the perfect balance of rice and topping made each mouthful a delight. Overall, Maru Nations - West Nashville is a treasure trove of culinary delights. The food and service are exceptional, and the convenience of on-site parking, particularly given its proximity to the downtown area, is a definite plus. The prices are reasonable, striking a good balance with the quality of food offered, and the staff are notably friendly and welcoming. The restaurant operates three locations (East Nashville, West Nashville, and Hendersonville), ensuring accessibility for all patrons. As with many Japanese restaurants, they observe a midday break, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. The experience at Maru Nations is well worth it.

Visited Nov 21, 2023. Omg, such a cute, little spot! Inside appearance is better than out. My family came here unintentionally due to long wait times at Sonobana. If you're a regular at Sonobana, this place would absolutely be worth trying because it's only 9 minutes away from them and hardly any wait times! My party ordered quite a spread and were pleased with each dish's flavor. The ambience is bright, clean, & cozy. The service is quick/helpful, along with ample private lot parking + street parking. Thrilled to come back for another round!

best sushi i've ever had! and i've been to tokyo. i had the crunch mochi roll and the wild cow roll. crunch mochi is THE best sushi roll, and i loooved the flavors of the wild cow, unlike anything i had before. seaweed salad belongs in sushi! the service was amazing, we really loved the waiter and waitress. this would be a great date night spot, but all sushi lovers should check it out. can't wait to come back!

My boyfriend and I are new to the neighborhood and were really excited to check out Maru! We are already looking forward to going back. We started with wine and edamame. For the entree, we tried the Crispy Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Crunch Mania Roll. All of the rolls were delicious, and it's hard to pick a favorite. There was only one person covering all of the tables, so the service was delayed. (Not a criticism of the waiter by any means, he was working incredibly hard.) I'd recommend asking for anything you think you'll need while ordering. Overall, it's a cute spot with delicious food!

Bar area and plenty of seating for everyone as well as a great open kitchen concept.

Maru replaced Burger Joint in the nations and although I loved burger joint, a great sushi spot was much needed. Vibe fits the nations perfect. You order at the counter then they bring out. I did pickup and though they said the wait was going to be 45 mins it only ended up being 20. I got the captains secret and it was one of the best rolls I've had around here. Edamame was eh. Needed to be dressed up a little. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating as well. Overall super thrilled to have an awesome sushi spot close to my house! read more

Wow, my husband and I are super picky about sushi and today we found a true gem! We have been in Tennessee about 1 year and a half and have tried several places but none like today! Don't let the look of the outside fool you, the food is DELICIOUS! We ordered 4 different kinds of sushi along with a sashimi taster plus garlic spicy edamame and WOW! The BEST sushi we have ever tried here! We've been to several places, brand name spots and they do not compare to this quality. Plus the customer service was incredible, Liza was great! read more

Maru is delicious, I've tried quite a few different rolls and never been disappointed. The Baja Fresh roll is one of my favorites, and don't skip the appetizers either! Their avocado ball was unlike anything I've had before: spicy tuna wrapped in avocado and finished with some amazing sauces. You can get the bomb version if you want the whole thing to be fried. I decided to pop in here with a few friends and it was extremely crowded, standing room only for the people that were waiting for a table. The wait time however was not that long, it took us about 30 mins to get seated. The food overall was alright. The sushi was good however the fried calamari left a lot to be desired it was over cooked and a little rubbery. Overall I say stop in for the sushi only and you will be satisfied. read more

Liked how large their sushi menu was. We picked up food and ordered the spicy edamame, calamari, and 3 sushi rolls. The edamame were pretty good, the calamari was disappointing, and the sushi rolls were average. Based on the photos on their website to what the actual food looked like was a bit of a surprise. I screenshot what they were showing as their calamari, which look fantastic, and what we got. Ours looked (and tasted) like the cheap calamari / onion rings. I think we would give this another shot, but the quality was lacking especially for the price we paid. read more

Meh. I had high hopes for a sushi restaurant coming to the Nations (since they took a prime dining spot in the neighborhood), and it's just okay. The veggie gyoza was deep fried to a crisp. There's no telling what was in it because you couldn't identify any ingredients. The 2 sushi rolls I ordered were mediocre at best. My husband ordered the shrimp fried rice - which he buried with soy sauce since there was no flavor. Really disappointed with our dining experience. Will likely only be back if friends insist, otherwise, we'll not be back. read more

I shouldn't even give our recent experience a single star. We love Maru and get it regularly being in the neighborhood but we went in on a Friday night and were told to pick a seat, we picked a seat outside and were never given menus, I went back inside about 15 minutes later and asked for menus, another 15 minutes went by and we were never greeted, offered waters or anything. The other tables outside had servers come by multiple times and not one ever looked our way. We eventually got up and left after 35 minutes of not even being greeted at our table. I hate that this tainted the way we feel about Maru because we truly love it but won't be back in the near future. read more

One of my favorite sushi places in town. I usually order take out while on break from work, and they are super speedy. The sushi is always fresh and consistent. They have multiple locations in the area and I always know what I'm getting even if I go to another location. The price is very fair for what you're getting. Sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen in Nashville but quality sushi is harder to find! Maru is definitely worth checking out if you find yourself continually dissatisfied with the sushi options we have available. read more

3 stars for convenience bc it's in the neighborhood. Food it's just edible. Sushi js overdressed with sauce and filled with a lot of imitation crab. You can get this sushi anywhere anytime. Food lacked technique in general and sushi just kinda melted in a wet mushy ball of food in your mouth. read more

Cute vibe. Glad to see increased food offerings in the Nations. I was underwhelmed by the sushi, however. It was fine, but that's about all. Bulgogi was also fine. Nothing stellar. Portion sizes fairly modest for the prices. Given other reviews (think I saw an average 4.8) was really expecting much better sushi experience. Will probably keep looking for better sushi here in Nashville, but OK in a pinch. read more

Very bad carryout experience. Ordered in advance, and arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes later (as I was told on the phone). Ended up waiting in the restaurant for an additional 45 minutes waiting for our food. Clearly they were taking on more orders than they could handle. read more

Great little place. The sushi is a must but I also love the addition of some Korean dishes. As with restaurants in the nations, the food gets a little pricey, 3 rolls is around 45 dollars. The waiters are friendly and the atmosphere is great. I sound definitely recommend trying the avocado ball. read more

Last-minute date night on a Friday evening and found this gem in the Nations. Walked right in and was seated, but feel it may not be like this for long. The garlic edamame and avocado ball were fabulous starters. My wife said the sashimi was the freshest she ever ate-- and she was right... so buttery and delicious. I tried the Baja Fresh roll and, again, fabulous. The best sushi we've had on the west side. We will definitely be back... so many other things that looked great on the menu like the Beef Bulgogi, Albacore Carpacio, and more sushi rolls. read more

But I am not sure I detected a speck of salt or pepper. The steak was at least tender and the sunny side up eggs were cooked appropriately. The potatoes were dry. And I did have the wagyu meatball appetizer. It's a large portion, so easily shared amongst two or three people. Cheesy and saucy with a little spice. The focaccia could've been toasted a little more. I considered the short rib hash, but my server told me it could be salty and hit or miss (I appreciate her honesty and she 100 percent should be praised for it). I came during brunch (even on a weekday). They also serve French toast, desserts, oysters, burrata, potstickers and tuna tartare, salads, burgers and other sandwiches. If you come for lunch or dinner, you can also get grilled salmon, blackened redfish, shrimp and grits, pastas (cajun chicken, pappardelle bolognese, tortellini) as well as various cuts of steak. It's conveniently located right across from the Frist Museum and is part of the Union Station Hotel. I would try this place again for dinner, but would skip the brunch. And again, Savanna was top tier! She deserves all the flowers!

Got the hell fire and black garlic- added spicy. You can add spicy to any ramen even though I didn't see that on the menu but the kiosk lets you and you can take any item off the ramen. The hell fire was a little too spicy for me but tasted good. I loved the black garlic ramen- and making it spicy was not as spicy as the hell fire and much better level of spice for myself. I would definitely recommend the black garlic ramen. There was only one toilet and it was clean.

Parking is somewhat limited in the front, but there's a free lot in the back. The staff was attentive, kind, and kept everything moving at a great pace throughout the meal. The menu is extensive, with plenty of options whether you're craving sushi, small plates, warm dishes, or specialty rolls. We started with the spicy edamame, which definitely lives up to its name, followed by the seaweed salad that was light, refreshing, and a nice contrast to some of the richer dishes. The standout of the night for me was the crispy rice. Absolutely heavenly bites that are perfectly crisp with incredible flavor and texture. We also shared the Baked Volcano Roll and the Hot Gabby Roll, and I enjoyed them in that order, though both were delicious. I ordered an Old Fashioned. It was a bit sweeter than I prefer, so next time I'd likely try something else from their cocktail menu. Overall, Maru WeHo delivers on atmosphere, service, and a wide variety of flavorful dishes. The crispy rice alone is worth the visit, and I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu.
