They're very happy to make any substitution that youd like, in my case substituted spinach for the broccoli. Cheese was very generous on the omelette. Really wish they had hash browns though Coffee is good, there constantly brewing a fresh pot and refilling it for you, nothing like a good old fresh all you can drink cup of joe I decided to upgrade my pancakes to the blueberry ones. Pancakes galore! They have savory breakfast items but I'd definitely go for the pancakes - more variety than I've ever seen. Friends and I tried the Dutch baby, Swedish pancakes, and pumpkin pancakes. I loved the Dutch baby pancake, it's huge! Fluffy in the center, crepe-like at the edges, and a menu item I don't see nearly as often as normal breakfast pancakes. All of the dishes we got came in generous portions, we had leftovers to take to go. There is quite a lot of seating, but on weekends it gets filled up quickly. read more

Stopped by for breakfast and this place did not disappoint! Pancakes so delicious and fluffy. The whipped cream itself is tasty! The portions are XL which justifies the price. This place is so close to me and we will be coming here much more often, I am not a huge pancake girl on their own so I typically never order them. The variety at the pancake house is amazing. I love their delicious pancake options (strawberry by far is my fav) I've also tried the Apple Dutch baby which is huge and really tasty as well. The whipped cream is amazing as well as their potatoes and turkey sausage. The service is great here and for some reason makes me feel like I went back in time a little bit in a good way. The Dutch Baby is a large, hollow, cake-like item that has the consistency of a crepe inside, with a slightly crisp exterior. It comes with powdered sugar, whipped butter, and lemon wedges that are all meant to be served on top. It's really delicious, and very filling. The homemade corned beef hash is tasty, with solid chunks of potatoes and meat, rather than being mushy. It's also served with potato pancakes that are slightly crisp outside with a tender texture inside. The flavor of everything was great, and so was the service by everyone; especially our server, Jorge. The interior is clean and comfortable. People with peanut allergies beware! All of the pancakes are made with peanut oil. I didn't know that many of their items including all potato items are made with peanut oil. I went with a friend who has a nut allergy so it was sad he couldn't get pancakes at the pancake house. The warning for peanuts was sooo small too. It would have been easily missed. The Original Pancake House is just one of those chains that have always been nostalgic for me, and I'll always scope one out if I ever encounter them in my travels. It's nice to have one not-so far from home, but if you're aware of the South OC breakfast culture, you know you'll have to get here early and beat the rush or else be faced with a long wait. It's really not a bad way to start the morning with a heavy breakfast and ruin your entire weekend by food coma-ing. I usually go with the Dutch Baby, which is an easy favorite that's plenty filling, but I changed it up the last time I went and got the 49ers Flapjacks, which have great texture and size in their own right. You really can't go wrong with any breakfast classics here. I always enjoy getting a coffee when I have sit-down breakfast as a way to indulge, and it has a great classic taste that's just solid brewed coffee. The servers are also super attentive and make sure you always have a full cup. This is just a place I love coming to and unwinding as a way to relax on the weekends with a hearty, indulgent meal. We have been regulars at OPH for many years. It's one that gets rotated with other favorite breakfast/brunch restaurants. During the busy rush, parking can get pretty full and wait times a bit long. The longest we've had to wait as a party of 5-7 people was about 40-45 minutes. I guess it's not that bad in comparison to some other establishments. We typically try to arrive before or after that rush to avoid the wait. If you arrive during the busy hours, they do have two large benches inside and three right outside their doors. You can even sit on the side against the building where the ramp is located. I honestly wish that they would start using a Yelp waitlist accessible to patrons on their phone apps. I love when restaurants offer this option. Through the many years we've dined here, we have seen many of the same staff who have worked the front, bussing tables as well as the servers. I'm not good with names but I do remember faces. It's always nice to get the same people through the years. I've never experienced anything but great customer service from each of them. Several years ago, it used to be tight between chairs and tables which made it difficult for us to maneuver while carrying little ones. I just realized that I actually mentioned this in my previous review from 11 years ago. They renovated the inside from an old drab, cramped diner decor to what you see now. There is definitely more space between tables for a more comfortable experience. What we order; 1) Dutch baby - a favorite of mine. Served with butter, lemon and powdered sugar. Sounds kind of odd but it's so good together. This is a large entree which usually is about 2-3 servings for me, so I have some for breakfast the next day or even for dessert. 2) Potato pancakes - they give you 7-9 pieces I think, but this can also be ordered as an extra instead of an entree and you get half the amount. These are served with sour cream and apple sauce. Again, sounds odd but it's good. Or you can use the jam, the syrup or not even kidding, ketchup. It is potato after all. I've had it with any one of those as a topping and loved it. 3) Eggs Michael - like eggs Benedict 4) Corned beef hash with eggs and comes with potato pancakes - hubby likes this but I prefer corned beef drier than this and cooked crispy. 5) Pumpkin pancakes - served with whipped cream and cinnamon and sugar. 6) Chocolate Chip pancakes - our youngest always orders this 7) Orange juice - it is so good here 8) Buttermilk pancakes 9) Junior plate - three buttermilk pancakes with a choice of link or patty sausage or one egg any style. Served with whipped butter. Speaking of butter, I really like the one they serve. 10) 49'er Flap Jacks - One of my favorites. It's actually delicious with just the butter or whip cream. I don't like putting syrup on this, it takes away from the flavor of the flap jacks. You get three of these and are the full size of your plate. 11) waffles - my son orders these either plain or with bacon. The girls like this with strawberries. 12) Side of bacon - we ask for this crispy 13) Potatoes - also ordered crispy 14) Minced ham and scrambled eggs - served with pancakes. 15) Omelettes- these are HUGE. I used to take more than half home to finish, but now that the kids love it, I split this with 3-4 people. It's so good. I choose Swiss for the cheese. I've had the mushroom omelette, served with their yummy mushroom sherry sauce. Ham and Cheese omelette and their bacon omelette. Omelettes are also served with a short stack of pancakes. Overall it's sort of expensive...but if you think about the serving sizes here, you really get your money's worth. I've been to the Anaheim location but I prefer the one in AV. We've been patrons for many years and plan to continue dining here. When we mention OPH to the family, faces light up and everyone just rushes to get here. Once seated the service is quick and food is ready shortly after ordering. Even though you may wait to be seated, once you sit down it's a quick experience. I got the eggs benedict with potato pancakes and it was a great choice. My wife got the pancakes and those were perfect. We've also had the strawberry pancakes which were delicious as well. I'm always amazed at the efficiency and high quality of customer care, food quality, and cost control of this Original Pancake House. To be able to go on a Sunday morning to this restaurant without a reservation, be served within twenty minutes of arrival, not be bothered by the talking and loud noises of a packed restaurant, and truly be able to savor one's breakfast is beyond expectation. Part of the reason for the relative quiet has to do with the thick Perspex partitions between booths, no doubt a holdover from the Pandemic of five years ago. Pancakes, eggs, waffles all were cooked to perfection. Three people ended up stuffed, yet each took home a box that was filled with goodies. At reasonable cost, and their coffee is worth coming for on its own. Highly recommended. Worth the wait. read more

Went to try the Dutch Baby pancake. I was torn between the strawberry crapes and the Dutch baby pancake. The waiter was very helpful and said both are liked a lot by all the patrons of the restaurant. So, I decided to hold fast with the Dutch boy, and my buddy got the same thing, both with coffee. Wow! Is all I can say; a pancake baked in the oven that comes with powder sugar, whipped butter, and lemon. It was so delicious. The waiter said some people like to put lemon on the pancake. And their coffee is excellent. Had about 3 cups and the pancake was so large, I only ate about half and took the other half home to the wife. She loved it also. The inside of the restaurant is very airy with lots of natural sunlight. The help were very friendly. Only had to wait about 2 minutes to get a table at 9:15am on a Monday. First and foremost, I'm here to give Cedric a shout out because "he makes it happen!" He was a wonderful server and we enjoyed his sincerity and genuine nature. The portions are great for the price as my bacon omelette lasted me 4 meals - it was the size of a small cast iron. I'd say the only downside is a suggested 25 minute wait turn into a 45-50 minute wait realistically (Sunday Morning) but that's fair due to the weekend timing and it's hard to gauge turnover. For one who does not like sweets and prefers breakfasts that are more egg and meat centric I was craving some good buttermilk pancakes. Sorry to the wife, but pancakes at home just don't do it for me, it's not the same. Considering that I have not craved pancakes for about 10 years, the wife suggested the Original Pancake House as a remedy for my mini-obsession. We heard from friends that this location gets packed on the weekends so we headed out at 7am on Saturday and we waltzed right in to a table. Sweet. Alexis, our server, came with menus and asked for our drink order. A black coffee for the wife and the breakfast drink of champions, a diet coke, for me. She already impressed me as a nice server and she would take care of us. She did. Good job! After reviewing the menu, the wife and I decided to split an order of pancakes, bacon and a couple eggs. Alexis took the order and away she went. The dining room was already starting to fill up and in no time there were few tables open. The food came out very quickly considering how busy the kitchen staff looked bustling around the kitchen. All food was hot and the extra plates we got to split the food were warm as well. That's great! We got 4 pieces of perfectly cooked bacon, 2 scrambled eggs (must have been small eggs) and 6 nicely sized pancakes. Along with these came butter and syrup. We split up the food and dug in. I tried a bite of the bacon and confirmed it was perfectly crispy and delicious. Preparing my pancake stack, I was bummed that the butter was cold and hard. So I put pieces between the warm cakes to hopefully melt. My next bummer was the cold syrup, or let's say not warm. Wasn't straight out of the fridge, but it was not room temp either. Anyhoo, with the butter a bit spreadable, I poured on the syrup and cut into my short stack. Just wonderful and exactly what I was craving. Hit the spot. With the 3 pancakes, the yummy 2 pieces of bacon and 1/2 of the tiny pair of scrambles eggs, I was satisfied. The wife only had 2 pancakes and that was good for her. Pros: Service Pancakes tasted great Perfect bacon Hot plates Tip suggestions on bill were correctly done Cons: Cold Butter Cold Syrup The price - we basically split what someone may have ordered as one meal and it was over $30 out the door. We ordered classic pancakes and apple waffles. Pancake dish came in with generous size and portion. Pancakes were fresh and hot. The waffle was well made and the apple topping was really tasty and was very good addition to the waffle. We also ask for some bacon on the side which was average. Coffee was hot, fresh and strong. We loved the coffee. Our server was attentive and quick. Overall no complaints on this part. Ambiance is old fashioned 80s design with boots and sectional floor. Huge windows provide plenty of natural light. This place is wheelchair friendly.
