It's a little off the beaten path for me and I'm a lazy ass so it took me until this weekend to get there! Arriving- It's in the clubhouse of the North Golf Course in the Highland's Ridge Community. Follow the signs for that clubhouse or let your GPS do the work. If you are familiar with the area, it was formally The Tavern. Ambience- So this is what a lot of folks would call a Country Club restaurant. As I had patronized the old tenants, I was curious how they were going to transform it into an Irish Pub. The answer is they didn't! It looks nothing like and Irish Pub. It's a large space with lots of natural light and traditional furniture. It has lots of outside seating that's covered with ceiling fans and many seats have a nice view! There is a very small bar that seats about six. In short, it looks like a Country Club restaurant. So much for pub ambience! Customer Service- Awesome, maybe seven stars! I had substantial interactions with the manager, bartender, and a server. All were exceptional. Adult Libations- Definitely not a pub style bar. It's a full bar with just a few taps but nothing special. Food- Like the ambience, it's an American menu with a couple of Irish dishes. There's Bangers & Mash and Shepard's Pie. Other than that, they throw in a couple of Irish terms to deceive you but it's really an American menu. There're enough choices to satisfy most folks. See their website. I ordered Irish Brisket Flatbread- Brisket, bacon, caramelized onions, diced tomatoes, BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese @ $13. It was out in good time and plated very nicely. Plenty of food for the price so good value. The flatbread was nicely crisp. I love caramelized onions and that's the base here. Everything was very fresh. Plenty of brisket. Unfortunately, the onions overpowered the other ingredients, so the flavors were not balanced. It was tasty but needed a little work to be a winner. Conclusion- If you're looking for an Irish Pub, you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for an American menu that has some potential with a great staff and beautiful outside seating, give it a try. As they are new and the staff is awesome combined with the outside seating, I'm going to be a little charitable and say four stars!

Pro Tip- Those reviews on that other review site are deceiving by omission! Read on. Arriving- It is located in teeny tiny Avon Park but way, way, off-the-beaten-path! You would never find it by accident. It's about 1.5 miles off US Route 27 North. They are open for all three meals, but I was there for breakfast. Parking is easy with a lot on the right-hand side. Also, if you are lucky, snag one of the three spots directly in front of the entrance. Ambience- There is none. I'd call it anti-ambience. I was there to dine in. There are three or four tables but what was really happening was people were using them to wait for takeout. Surprise! I dined in and the girl behind the counter acted a little shocked. Here's the deal. You walk up to the counter, peruse a couple of menus, grab a soft drink out of the coolers and place your order. You are expected to pay before you get your order. Customer Service- There was one girl behind the counter, and she was OK. Food- Standard American breakfast menu. I ordered Scrambled Eggs, Home Fries, Sausage & Toast for $9 pre-tip. I live here and we have dozens of delightful, small privately-owned Mexican restaurants of which this is one. Arriving- Facing Main Street with an adequate private lot so getting here and parking is a snap. Ambience- Not much but that's not why you're here. Like most of these joints it's a combo of a small store and a restaurant. A few tables and booths, an open kitchen, and a little Florida kitsch and that's it! The customers will be mostly Hispanic but a gringo like me will feel completely welcome. The Television will almost certainly be on a Hispanic channel. Note that this is one of the very few small Mexican joints that has table service! Adult Libations- Somewhere along the way they acquired a beer & wine license so be sure to grab a Corona or a Modelo to go with your meal. It will be served with an interesting bottle opener that you can see in my picture. Customer Service- Friendly and efficient and I've never had a problem. Food- A large, laminated menu with everything you would expect. Beef, chicken, pork, or shrimp, it's all there, Mexican style. I went with Carnitas served with rice and beans and a small side salad. It included my choice of flour or corn tortillas for $12.99. It was out very quickly. Delicious! The pork was moist, tender, and lightly seasoned with some sauce on the side. The rice and beans were hot and typical and tasty. The side salad was fresh, and my tortillas were nice and hot. A fine four-star Mexican meal that was very affordable. These fine folks are overshadowed by a hugely successful competitor a stones throw away. So, if you are sick of the giant Americanized Mexican places, give them a try, especially if you desire table service!

No problem: next time we'll get sauce on the side. My father really loved the chicken chow mein: thin pieces of perfectly cooked chicken breast with well-cooked soft sweet onions, and a warm gravy. The only thing we didn't care for was the Chicken Chow Mei Fun: relatively bland compared to our other food, but if you want a soft rice angel hair pasta with vegetables and chicken, you might enjoy it. I'm crazy passionate about supporting private businesses in my little town. So much so that I…read moresometimes visit businesses that were not my favorite in the past just to see if they've changed. It's been over five years since I reviewed these folks and yup, they have changed, for the better! Atmosphere- None! That's right none and you can thank the pandemic for that! The small dining room is shut down and the walk-up counter is almost completely enclosed in plywood which I sincerely hope is temporary. See my pictures. I did notice that everything is spotless. Food- I wanted to compare apples to apples so I ordered my go-to stuff that I get at my 1st choice joint. So, a small pork rice, fried dumplings, and Mongolian Beef. It cost within a buck of my other place so who cares. It was ready quickly and very nicely packaged. The fried rice was just fine and as far as I could tell, virtually the same as my other place. Much to my surprise, the dumplings were better! The count was the same but there was more and tastier filling! Another surprise was the Mongolian Beef as it was also better! Although you can't see it in my picture, it had bunches of those baby corns that I dearly love. It also had chopped cabbage which was unexpected but tasty! So, One item was the same and two were better! I may need to change my allegiance!
