We came to MM based on a recommendation from a friend. We liked it so much that we have been back almost a half a dozen times since (and brought others with us). The food is always exceptional and the staff is very friendly and focused on making your experience a good one! 1st time here after my neighbor told me several times how good it is. Chicken Chesapeake is probably the best I've had, and I went out on a limb and ordered crispy Brussels sprouts as one of my sides. They were pretty good! Much better than expected!!!! Much more stylish than the Gary and Dell's I remembered from the past. Service was phenomenal, and food was better than I could have imagined. The crabs were seasoned perfectly, fresh, and were the best I've had in years! Hands down! The jumbo steamed shrimp were HUGE! Chesapeake Fries.... oh my... mmmmm.... so good. The only thing negative that I have to say is about the upstairs bathroom stall doors. They could use updating. They reminded me of the doors from an old Western movie. At first we were disappointed because they don't have all you can eat on the weekends, but we actually spent less for three of us and was full on a dozen Large crabs, a pound of steamed shrimp, and the Chesapeake Fries. Only reason it's getting 3 stars is because the carry out steamed crabs we got a few weeks ago were awesome and the price for half a bushel was the best in town. The restaurant portion was a significantly different experience unfortunately. When you walk in you're welcomed to a raunchy smell of dead crabs, like the smell when you throw them out and they sit outside. The air conditioning must've been set on 80 degrees. We sat on the bar side of the restaurant at a table, and had a view of inside the kitchen. At one point the kitchen flooded into the bar, but staff kept it from going to the seats. One employee said a joke out loud "if only my husband made me this wet!" Summarizes the staff. We had at one point 3 waitresses, and not a single one seemed to know who was taking care of our table, over 30 mins for a drink refill. Drinks are over priced, beer is a fairly priced however. Lunch wasnt very good. We ordered two captains platters and they were very over cooked. All of the food was a dark brown instead of "golden brown." I think they forgot about it in the fryer. Also, it tasted like they need to change the oil. I would have sent it back if we we werent in a hurry. The cream of crab soup was good but not very hot. I feel like there was a lot of love that went into this restaurant. My family loved the fish tank at the hostess stand, especially our kids. The place definitely screams seafood when you walk in. This is always a good sign -- a restaurant that knows its identity. As far as the interior is concerned, Maryland Mallet is spacious, clean and tastefully designed. The tabletops were beautiful and the windows gave the dining room a nice open and bright environment. Now onto the menu.. there was a nice assortment Of items Here. My only gripe was that mostly every dish was either in Alfredo or a garlic cream sauce. That aside, our waitress Crystal was friendly and accommodating. She had a good sense of humor which I can appreciate. She also gave us recommendations. Once we placed our order I was praying that the food would be awesome. We live close by and are always looking for solid, go to restaurants since moving to the area. Unfortunately this is where our experience fell flat... My seafood sautée was bland and Not exciting. The seafood itself was fresh and of high quality, but the dish itself was basically a plate of seafood with some seasoning. Where was the sauce? Where was the passion? There wasn't a single identifiable characteristic of this meal. Nothing unique. My sides were fine as I only got broccoli and a potato ... but everything was cold. My wife's scallops were cold too. They were also drenched in butter. However when we complained, she got an entirely new plate of scallops that were hot and delicious. Plus they put the sauce on the side. Her Brussel sprouts were still just fair. But even still, with a paging system this should never happen. I can't remember being served cold food like This at a restaurant. It really was a turnoff. I would have returned my meal too but with two small kids I didn't want to wait anymore. Plus I was hungry. On a side note the chicken fingers were actually awesome. The beef was tender and served with a thick, savory gravy. The fried shrimp were large, juicy, and crispy. 3 couples met there on a Thursday late afternoon for my fiancé s birthday. We had heard great things about this place. We got seated immediately at their picnic style tables in a large open dining room which I felt needed a bit more ambiance than the crab house feel. However we were waited on intently regarding our drink orders and Goldie " our waiter " was open to our banter and dialogue regarding the birthday girl. Our drinks were outstanding and upon ordering our food we did make use of the suggestions given by him. The consensus regarding our entrees was 5 star however I found that the add on crab imperial differed from the entrée in that the add on had little to no lump crab and seemed to have either a fish or bread filler. The scallops were a bit undercooked but colossal in size. All enjoyed their selection and the birthday girl got a large slice of cheesecake with a candle. "I assume on the house"?? When the checks were split per couple it became pot luck as who got what!! The waiter took them back twice in attempt to rectify them but at that point we said to hell with it and paid what was behind check #3. With 2 drinks each which were listed twice "because of them being doubles??" Our bill was dollars shy of $200 Don't get me wrong, we all had a great time/meal however at that rate we can't see returning even biannually. We went to this restaurant on May 8, 2022 (Mother's day) and arrived at 4:20 pm. We had a 4:30 pm reservation. Not only was our table NOT ready at 4:30 pm, we had to wait an additional 30 minutes (40 minutes total) to be seated. I knew something was wrong when we were handed a device and told to come to the front when it flashed. The manager must have seen my face (I did not verbally complain) and came over at 4:45 pm to say they were crowded. I told him I was leaving at 5 pm if we were not seated before then. A RESERVATION means you reserve a table and it is ready for the customer at the designated time-period-no excuses. Three walk-in groups were seated before us while we waited, so the restaurant's "reservation" was worthless. They wasted 40 minutes of my time. We were finally led back to our table at 4:58 pm. and had to wait standing a few minutes for the booth to be cleared and swept. I ordered a bowl of cream of crab soup. The "bowl" was tiny, the size of a small cup. There were no crab pieces in the soup-NONE. I ordered the Filet & Cake entree with a medium cooking specification for the filet. The filet arrived more than well done, overcooked with burnt edges. The Cake was very small. The baked potato was fine; the mac & cheese portion was in a small cup-way too small for the prices the restaurant charged. Overall, it was one of the worst Mother's Day dinners of my life. My friends and I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. I ordered a mallet salad. I asked the server is I could get some shrimp salad on top. She said yes. she didn't tell me how much it would cost to add the shrimp salad and I stupidly didn't ask. The salad was 11.00 and the shrimp salad was 15.00 extra. I was a little shocked to say the least. I pay 13.00 for a shrimp salad bowl at bay city and 16.00 for a shrimp salad bowl at rock salt. When we got the checks there were things on my check my friend got. There is also a 2 hour seating limit so if you want to take your time and eat with friends this is not the place to go. Cannot recommend this restaurant. Many reasons and each one enough not to return, but all of them at one time was almost too much. Summary- Overpriced Terrible service Lied to to be upsold on crabs BAD CRABS Not worth the trip We visited on a mid afternoon Sunday in June. Not a holiday, nothing special, just a nice Sunday afternoon. Four top, seated right away and we were really in a pretty empty dining room. Our server was young, Matt sounds familiar, and very personable, but quickly become a major issue. We went to the Mallet for crabs. It was my birthday and we wanted to have a fun crab picking afternoon. We asked for prices and we were told that they only had Larges and Extra Larges because "the lunch rush was insane and we totally got wiped out!" Disappointing but understandable. We wanted smalls or mediums just for budget reasons. As we were trying to decide what to do, our server TOTALLY FORGOT that they have All You Can Eat crabs (smalls) and sides. Okay, more cost effective so we go for it. We also order a few other things (crab pretzels, bacon shrimp, and some entrees). The AYCE crabs are supposed to come with sides and soup and salad. Fries arrived, and nothing else. We remind the server for the other items, he claims other serves grabbed them so he had to re-ring in. Then he said he forgot our fries and they went bad etc. At this point he has more tables and clearly isn't making our table important. The crabs were bad. Over-steamed and just tough. Not worth it. Such a disappointment and WAY OVERPRICED for poor quality. Not busy, not insane orders flying around so no excuse to not steam MARYLAND crabs right. Other food items were good, crab pretzel and the fries were honestly the highlight. We could not get drinks refilled. And the sides for the crabs finally came but not the soup. About now we hear our server great another table (next to us) AND HE TELLS THEM THEY HAVE SMALLS AND MEDIUMS by the dozen as well as the larger sizes. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Furious. Being that this is a new restaurant and I've only had one experience here, take my words lightly. I ordered the wings and I can honestly say they were the worst I've ever had in my entire life. My friends and I went last night to celebrate my birthday. Our server was very sweet but would disappear for long periods of time leaving us with empty drinks. The appetizers were very good but our entrees were not. My New York Strip was more than well done and I asked for medium. The blackened mahi was hard as a rock! The "jasmine rice" was white rice that seemed to be microwaved and plopped on the plate. No one finished their meals or was entirely happy. Several minutes went by as we watched her serve more food to the screamers table AND she served 2 dozen crab PLUS oysters to the table of 4 next to us. At this point, the noise, the awful service and still no oysters was the last straw. I told her give us our check and my husband threw money to cover the 2 cocktails on the table and said, let's go. He has never ever done that. So, we had a really unenjoyable experience here.
