WOW! I stumbled upon this place through one of my friends bookmarks. My husband is Russian so I decided that we should grab dinner here ASAP. This place is an adorable, quaint, little spot to eat. Fun fact, the cafe is named after a Russian cartoon which plays all day long in the cafe (this place doesn't have a lot of seating but they offer takeout). We stopped in and ordered a pelmini (meat dumpling), vareniki (potato dumpling), borsch (beet, cabbage, & beef soup), and the greek salad (self explanatory). All of these items are homemade from what I can tell (not the packaged stuff) and my goodness do they do a superb job. All of the food was very comforting and "homey." For starters the borsch was a warm tasty bowl of deliciousness and left me wanting more. She said that we would want more... and she was right! Second, we shared the pelmini and vareniki (each order was enough for two people). The pelmini was, in lack of a better terms B-E-A-UTIFUL! The dumplings were perfectly formed and cooked and had an amazing blend of flavor. The vareniki equally perfect, it was very savory and the texture was perfect. They say that good food takes time and that is definitely the case here, like I said, I'm pretty certain everything is homemade. You can expect wait a while for your food to be prepared but you can also expect friendly service and food made from the heart. Well done! We will definitely be back! read more

I am so sad that today is the first time I've come here. This food is fantastic. The borscht has shreds of beef and chunks of beef, and is served with croutons and sour cream. The vareniki were amazing, filled with potato and covered in butter (with more sour cream, obviously). But the star is definitely the Hinkali - Georgian style beef dumplings, served with a spicy sauce and sour cream. So hearty, so much flavor, and instantly transported me back to my Baka's kitchen. I haven't eaten like this since she passed, and I am so happy to taste these flavors again! read more

I had High Hopes for this place and overall it was good. But I was very disappointed in the Borscht. It was not Heart at all, very little fresh beets( or none at all) and little to no meat. IT was so super salty. I could tell it was pretty much all the shredded jars of beets and juice. No real effort into it and was bland. The Okróshka soup how quite good. and the Beef Stroganoff was very good ! I will give the Borscht another try hoping it was just a one off day. :) read more

Solyanka: this soup is super tasty!! $11 for a bowl. Not very filling, definitely need to dip the bread in it. I would get this next time. I got the third meat dumpling listed on the menu that came with tomato sauce and sour cream. $13. Dumplings were not bad, pretty good with the sauce (tho it's not spicy like they advertise) and sour cream. I'd probably try something other than the dumplings next time. I have never been one to do backflips over Russian food (not because I don't respect their culinary traditions but I tend to prefer very spicy food) but I do love a good bowl of borscht from time to time. I decided to give these guys a chance a few weeks ago and have been back three times. The food is delicious and tastes like the type of homemade goodness you'd receive from a little babushka in a village. The appetizers, the main courses and the desserts - all amazing! The food was delicious and fresh, and the service was great. This was a very hearty and intensely flavorful meal, and we got a ton of food for about $60. The Solyanka had a strong vinegar flavor, which I really enjoyed as it isn't a flavor typical in a soup. Lots of great textures in each course! Highly recommend giving this place a try! read more

We were craving some homemade Russian food, checked out many places online but this one won us over. It's a small place but very clean. Staff is super friendly. We ordered more then we could devour! My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner and we loved it! We always keep an eye out for Russian cuisine, especially when we're visiting somewhere new, so we were excited when we found this place on yelp. We ordered the cabbage rolls, borscht, and the pelmini, all of which were delicious! The lady who served us, who I'm assuming is the owner, was so sweet and made us feel so welcomed. If we weren't from out of town we would definitely eat here regularly. We finally made it back to Masha and the Bear cafe after ownership change and Covid. Not having any Russian/Ukrainian/Uzbek/Georgian/Soviet style food here in Denver, this is the best we can get. Service - absolutely 5/5 stars. Young girl working the restaurant is also a great and friendly hostess. She did everything herself from greeting and seating customers, to taking orders and serving customers, to cleaning up the tables. Very friendly and upbeat and super efficient gal! Half Russian here. Took my sister and my family for a big meal here. It's a tiny hole in the wall - and I love it. I ordered the Georgian dumplings and borscht. Now I normally prefer cold vegetarian borscht, but this was one of the best borschts I've been eaten. Emmy sister and wife both exclaimed the same. It's got beef in it but the pure good Russian borscht taste I was craving. My sister got the cabbage rolls and my wife got the stroganoff. Both really loved it. You get plenty of food, it's made from scratch (maybe not the kids chicken though) and Anya and others there are fantastic owners/servers. My ONLY issue is it's not super convenient for me. Stick with the Russian classics here, and you can't go wrong. The cabbage rolls are better than those at any of the Russian delis in town, by far! Though the price has gone up recently to $15, it is justified by the superior quality, flavor, and size of the servings. Instead of the usual tomato-based sauce on top, the cook uses a labor-intensive carrot-based sauce, which gives the dish a subtle sweetness, but not too sweet. This is BETTER than most Russian grandmothers' recipes! I would only caution about the hinkali, a Georgian dish. This is nothing like the juicy, flavorful Caucasus and Central Asian large meat dumplings. Mine were dry and bland. My general experience has been, that Russians don't do ethnic cooking from their borderlands very well, but Masha's makes up for that in the high quality of the other dishes. I'm still making my way through their menu gradually, and will be back for more. Good, prompt service, pleasant, quiet atmosphere. They also fill take-out orders, so you can order extra to take home for another day. read more

This place is probably the best spot to get authentic Russian food with great customer service and fun atmosphere. Every time we visit the place we always get great quality food and friendly service. My favorites are solyanka (soup with different stuffings) and dumplings! I also like their bakery selections, as it always fresh and have good variety of choices. Place located on a huge plaza, so parking is lot a problem. Lunch is anywhere from $10-$20 easy and you will be full. TLDR: This was a wonderful and authentic Russian experience. The food was so hearty and homey. I will definitely be back here! Things I liked - I had their classic Russian soup (I cannot recall its name) and my partner had the beef and cabbage roll. Everything tasted so deep and flavorful. - We also had their dessert: the honey cake. What a treat! - Our server was really sweet and very knowledgeable. She was patient with us and explained items on the menu. Her recommendations did not disappoint! - Finally, their bathroom was sparkling clean and spacious. This is a minor thing, but it does matter when you are at a sit down restaurant. Things that could be better - Some minor suggestions for improvement: the tables and chairs, while giving a nice homey feel, are a little old. So is the silverware. You can certainly invest in those. Alternatively, you can put up little signs that explain why you use "rustic, homey" utensils. You can also put up little signs that explain what the background of the cartoon character is. read more

Anya was super nice and helpful, giving my sister, her two kids, and I an amazing first experience with Russian food. Originally came here because of a Groupon (and the kids love the show, of course) but will come back because the food was AMAZING. Borscht: where have you been all my life? The kids also loved it, and they're usually hard to please besides the usual American fare. Beef stroganov: we scraped the plate clean. The kids LOVED it! Huge portion of flavor, the creamy garlic sauce was out of this world! My nephew had multiple portions of it and wolfed it down each time. Love this dish! Vareniki and Pelmeni: tastes great with the sauce, Anya was awesome and gave us a platter of both so we could try both kinds. Desserts: mousse cake, meringue cake, peach cookie, macarons. My sister absolutely loved the mousse cake. All of the desserts were good, but our favorites were the mousse cake and meringue cake! Overall, 10/10, would recommend! What a nice little find! We drove out to this restaurant from Castle Rock and thought it was worth the trip. We currently have an exchange student from Lithuania; her grandma is from Belarus, so she grew up eating a lot of Russian food. She was curious about Russian food in the U.S., so that's what prompted our trip to Masha and the Bear. The restaurant is unassuming and cozy, nothing fancy and definitely a good place to take small kids. We ordered a few dishes and split them- borscht, beef stroganoff, cabbage rolls and the potato dumplings. We also ordered a dumpling dish made from dough and cottage cheese, and topped with fruit, that I can't recall the name of. Every dish was hearty, perfectly cooked and the portions were very generous. Our exchange student tried bites of everything and said that it's exactly how her Babushka (Grandma) makes it. This is real authentic Russian food. We took home some macaroons and honey cake for dessert. The honey cake was my favorite dish. I definitely recommend ordering this to go if you don't have room left for dessert- you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is named for a popular Russian cartoon that also has an English speaking version on Netflix. Our 2 and a half year old watches the show, so we were excited to see it on in the restaurant- a great way to distract her so we can enjoy dinner. A lot of Americans are unfamiliar with Russian food and I think more people should try it. It's simple filling food that appeals to a lot of people's taste; our 1 year old and picky 2 1/2 year old devoured everything we gave them. This place is pretty delicious. Definitely not a connoisseur of russian food, but holy crap their borscht was so good. Big tender chunks of meat, and a large portion. I'm an easy lay when it comes to borscht but I'm a little pickier when it comes to dumplings, and the meat dumplings I had were to die for.
