This place is pretty delicious. Definitely not a connoisseur of russian food, but holy crap their borscht was so good. Big tender chunks of meat, and a large portion. I'm an easy lay when it comes to borscht but I'm a little pickier when it comes to dumplings, and the meat dumplings I had were to die for. Perfect little succulent meaty bites with a little sour cream on that sumbitch? Put it all inside of me. I also ordered their compote drink, which made me think of mulled koolaid a la mulled wine. Taking its name and decor from the very popular Russian folktale (not to mention the animated series based on it), Masha & The Bear Sandwich Shop offers a selection of gastronomic highlights from Europe's (and for that matter Asia's) largest country. The craveworthy crepes called Blinchiki get the red-carpet treatment at Masha & The Bear, where they're offered with a number of accompaniments both sweet (honey and jelly, Nutella and mixed fruit) and savory (caviar, Tvorog [the creamy dairy product known sometimes as "farmer's cheese"]). Alternatively, how about a nice bowl of one of their sterling soups, such as Rassolnik (which gets its zing from pickled cucumbers) or the Georgian-in-origin Kharcho, with a base of ground walnuts and Tklapi [dried plum paste]? Speaking of fruits, vegetables and other miscellanea, you could also sample some so-packed-they're-almost-tumescent stuffed peppers just bursting with ground meat and rice. And as I'm so fond of saying - or at least inferring - in these reviews, I'm just getting started. One of my favorite plates here is a tangy tempter of stirfried cabbage topped with roast chicken. It's simple, yet substantial. Similarly, although they might seem like they'd be a bit on the heavy side, you'll find the eatery's dumpling creations to be most digestible too, whether you order the ones with minced meat [Pelmeni] or smooth mashed potatoes [Vareniki]. Why not be daring and have an order of each? Oh, c'mon - you know I wasn't being serious about that last suggestion. After all, if you over-indulge too soon, where are you going to fit in one of their decadent desserts, like multi-layered Medovik [honey cake] or the intensely cocoa-y truffle called Kartoshka, whose name evokes its potato-like shape? This was my first time eating Russian food and being at this restaurant. The young lady who waited on us was very nice and helpful with suggestions. The restaurant wasn't large but was nicely decorated. We shared a cup of recommended soup. It was very hearty and unique but we liked it. After reviewing the menu we tried two different entrees (both unique and good) and finished with dessert, also very good ( yes, we had extra food to bring home). The prices were reasonable. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a very good experience and will look forward to returning soon. read more

The food is truly authentic, made to order, fresh, delicious and made me feel like I was a little kid again, growing up in Russia, sitting in my grandma's kitchen. Borscht was outstanding, well seasoned, with good chunks of beef along with plenty of veggies. It was over sprinkled with fresh dill, but the sour cream on the side was a generous portion and balanced out the flavors. My friends tried the pelmeni and blinchiki, which they really enjoyed and deemed very delicious. The biggest downfalls to this place are the tiny plastic water bottles that are served instead of glasses of water, as well as the slow service. The waitress wasnt friendly, but was rushed, though good at multi-tasking. (I must warn that friendly service isnt something that should be expected at a Russian establishment). Be prepared to wait a while to be greeted, get menus, and water--maybe bring your own water bottle. Overall, this hidden, tiny restaurant is serving some great Russian food, and should be visited by those curious of Russian cuisine! Side note - the cartoon themed restaurant is a very VERY kid friendly place, and even has a little kiddie corner to play in! read more

We loved our time at Masha and the Bear! It was very quaint/small, and we had to wait for a bit for our food, but the food was great, and the service was accommodating even though there was a wait. The restaurant itself is very colorful and vibrant with big pictures of the food on the purple and blue walls, and red seating at the tables (it doesn't look as bad as that may sound). We got the potato dumplings as well as a meat one (i forget which one) and the combination of the two were perfect! We also topped it off with a side of mashed potatoes and the honey cake. When you call an ethic restaurant and the person speaks in that language, that is a good first sign. There was a group of 12 of us that wanted some good, authentic Russian food, this place did not disappoint. Since there was a big group, we ordered almost everything on the menu, not one person said anything negative, most were raving how good things were. I had the Russian meatballs over pasta, damn, that was really good! Had soup (Soylanka) that was a mix of veggies and meats, others got the traditional Borscht, and said they didn't like it until they had this. Others had dumplings, Stroganoff, crepes and more. Lola, our server, was awesome, she was super nice and busted her butt to take care of a big group. The prices were very fair, especially for the amount of food. When we were leave, the chef came out, and looks like she was the only one in the kitchen and she did an amazing job! Now you don't have to order what I ordered, bcs its $24 for $40 worth of service, so order whatever you want. Everything tastes delish. I couldn't resist and tried some of the things I ordered in my car, lol. I think the people who wrote bad reviews came in expecting an American eatery. It's a Russian place. This food is authentic and fantastic. For a small family-run restaurant it has a fairly extensive menu all of traditional Russian dishes. The soups are incredible, best rye bread in town, the stuffed cabbage leaves are excellent. They use high quality lean meat, and fresh vegetables. Great service. I stopped in at Masha & the Bear exhausted and looking for a boost of energy and maybe a sweet treat! I ordered a Turkish coffee and sat outside on this sunny day. The owner was very engaging and wonderful! She brought me my Turkish coffee and a free macaroon (she must have seen me drooling as a gazed at the desserts). It was the perfect pick me up that I needed to continue my workday. If you ask my coworkers they probably do not want me to continue to visit Masha's for Turkish coffee...but the damage is done. The macaroon was delicious...so much so that I left with a box to take to my coworkers to put up with my caffeine level. I will definitely be back to try some lunch/dinner one day! read more

My husband was randomly talking to a client about our daughter liking Masha and The Bear (the show) and this cafe came up as an Aurora cafe with the same name. I know nothing about Russian cuisine but love trying new things, so our family went for dinner. My daughter was entranced watching Masha, and we loved the food in this unassuming restaurant. I had a bowl of Borscht - finished the whole bowl, I know I'll be going back for more when it's colder out. My mom had the okroshka soup, perfect for the hot weather. Both the potato and meat dumplings were awesome and my husband had the Russian meatball with potatoes (cannot recall the name but he said it was delicious, especially the sauce. ) Overall, MATB was a hit. read more

Love this place. Everything is made from scratch (that's why it takes some time), the staff is very friendly. It's an awesome spot if you have kids. They can watch the cartoon or play in the play area while you eat, which makes the meals more enjoyable. The portions are really big and the prices are very reasonable. If I could give this less than one star I would. I am furious. I came here for the sandwiches as the reviews here sound amazing and it's so hard to find a real sandwich around here. I was slightly disappointed as there were only 2 sandwiches on the menu and both were with turkey, but I made the trek so I ordered one. What I got was a sandwich made with Wonder bread - literally crappy fake store bought "bread" - and the turkey is obviously from a packet from the store too. Absolutely unbelievable. Consistent, delicious and very professional. Over the past two years, I've had most of the menu and was never let down. The Turkish coffee is the most tasty cup of coffee that I've ever had. The portions are good sized and you won't leave hungry. The women who wait tables couldn't be better. They are friendly, helpful but never invasive. When you first get seated, you get a basket of bread with olive oil and it is delicious. Sometimes, we eat two baskets plus our meal. Desserts are great too! read more

It is so hard to find a Russian cafe in the Denver area. It seems that as soon as I find one I like, they close. A friend of mine posted a picture of this place and hubby and I just had to go try it ASAP. Let me just say... Amazing! It's not a fancy place, there is no line or wait but it is one of those hidden gems. Their Russian dishes are spot on and authentic, something my mom or grandmother would make. They also have some less "exotic" things as well. Hubby got the turkey panini and really enjoyed it. The white mocha was marvelous too. Fantastic place for lunch! My wife had the borscht and it was incredible. We then both had the stuffed cabbages and they were great. I've only had Eastern European/Russian cuisine a handful of times and this was right up there.
