As for the place on general, I've found the front desk competent and they call me not too often but often enough when I've forgotten to book and have started racking up massage points. They used to be unable to split a one hour credit into two half hours and that was annoying, but they fixed that. I can't speak to most massagers there, but I go regularly to Bob and he rocks. I don't use the gift cards, so can't speak to people complaining about that. I know that if you are a member than you can get a friend to come in and get a cheap rate one-time as a test-run. I had a gift certificate here that some old coworkers purchased for me - I've been waiting over 2 years to use it. My massage was very nice, and I added a deep heat therapy to focus on my back and neck area. My therapist was great - I mentioned that I had broken my ankle a few months ago, and I pins and plates inserted. She was very light on the injury which made me feel more comfortable. On the other side, I don't enjoy being "up-sold" when I attend something. I wasn't interested in purchasing the package deal. But, I can see the appeal. I also thought my room was a bit cold - I wish it was just slightly warmer. But, overall a good experience. read more

A very solid massage experience, but you have to ask for what you want and for the best person available! I've been a member for several years and I've come to the conclusion that all M.E's are places that employ very competent therapists as well as those fresh out of school. If you don't ask the front desk, or better yet the manager, for an experienced person you are risking getting what I would fear is one of those less then enjoyable experiences. The plus about most of the M.E.'s is that I can call early in the day and usually book a 90 minute deep tissue. Try doing that with any other person or company. The front desk folks are usually very helpful. If you are going to this location be very careful crossing the street in the designated cross walk at night. Drivers in Glendale don't give two shits about the flashing yellow lights. Bottom line is that this isn't a 5 Star Spa, so expect it to be one, but it is by far the most consistent and a very solid value. Also, if you are like me and find a therapist you like and use them regularly, be prepared to call one day and find they've been beamed up to space, effectively disappearing from the face of the earth. I looked around at many massage places for a few months before settling with Massage Envy and joining there membership. My husband and I have been members at this location for about two years now. All of the masseurs that have worked on me have been thorough, respectful, and I always leave feeling a million times more human than when I walked through the front door. I had some credits left over from the last several months because of COVID and a pre-COVID hectic work life balance, and decided to treat myself to a 90 minute session with them today. They are doing an outstanding job of keeping everything clean, and I felt safe the entire time I was there. As soon as I walked in, my temperature was taken, and there is hand sanitizer readily available. All of the employees were friendly and wearing masks (I only interacted with one front desk person- also Amanda- and my masseuse, which added to the feeling of security and emphasized how seriously they are taking health and safety guidelines). Kelsey was amazing and did a wonderful job of focusing on my problem areas while also giving me a full body massage. I suffer from pretty major anxiety, even while not living through a global pandemic, so my nervous system is really grateful for the reset. I know it can't be an easy decision to come to work for these employees during these scary and odd times, so I'd just like to say thank you for showing up, being friendly, and maintaining the excellent Massage Envy experience my husband and I have enjoyed for quite some time now. Considering Yelp keeps removing my reviews due to the store reporting the reviews. I'm going to tell you what you want to know. If you have an old membership. Don't put your membership on "hold". Why you ask. Because unless you have massages they owe you, there is no point. Because the price of the membership won't change if you return when you have money or time to use their services again. If anything the membership charges will only increase over time. These people won't work with me to solve the problem I have with them at all. I emailed corporate. They won't talk to me. So I can no longer get my membership fixed. I can't get a new membership, they won't allow it. Now here are the facts. Yes the other reviews of this office are accurate. This store sent me down the street to get $20 bills because they wouldn't accept a $100 bill for $80 in services rendered. Claiming that it was because of possible fake dollar bills. I couldn't believe it. They continuously every few months keep calling me to update my credit card even though they won't work with me to solve the problems. They won't even return my phone calls to the manager. This is southern California where there are so many other places to go. If you want cheap or high end massage. The manager tried to imply that this is the only place to find licenced massage therapists. This is not true in the least. Do your homework on state regulations. So why go to this store and why go to any Massage Envy if this is how you can be treated? Take your money else where. Facility is clean & simple. There's nothing fancy about it, but at $39/month, I'm fine with it. There is variability among the different therapists, but my schedule is rather unpredictable so it's hard for me to stick with 1 person. The front desk people are pleasant, but often seem short-staffed particularly during peak times (e.g., weekend days). The night hours just before closing are definitely less busy. The one thing I don't like is when they ask whether or not I'd be willing to close out my bill/service upfront (i.e., pay the gratuity up-front before the service is rendered). It seems weird to do that since the gratuity is usually based on whether or not I thoroughly enjoyed my service or not, right? At any rate, I never get asked this when I go there during the day time, so this is just a peculiarity of the time of day, I think. That aside, the check-in and check-out process is pretty efficient and no nonsense which I like. The waiting area is simply that--an area to wait. It's behind the beaded curtain as seen in the picture that's posted on Yelp. There's a glass water dispenser, but other than that just some sofas on which to sit & flip through magazines. Two good therapists I've had are Annette & Mario. Both are very conscientious of what I need. Their sense of pressure is very good. I'm not a fan of simple Swedish massages with light pressure, and neither of these 2 therapists performed that which was good. Even though I was signed up for a whole body massage, Mario was very good about asking whether or I wanted the head, face, and scalp, so it's nice having that as an option. I haven't gotten the sales push that others seem to have gotten, but I also bought the membership a year or so ago, so there isn't really anything to sell me, I think. The one great thing about this membership is that unused massages roll over month-to-month. So, I had 3 months when I was out of town nearly ever weekend and could never make it in. As a result of that, I have 4 massages lined up for the next 3 weeks. *Awesome*--it's like feast or famine for my worn-out muscles! One caveat about their memberships is that some states are cheaper than others. So, if you happen to join in a cheaper state (e.g., somewhere in the Midwest), you pay the cheaper state's monthly dues--even if you move to a state that has more expensive dues. It's great--I'd terminate my membership if they tried to increase my membership to the California price. read more

I love this place, and I especially love my massage therapist, Matt. It was a wonderful day when I was scheduled with him for my first massage here, and I never saw another therapist. He specializes in trigger-point massage, which can also be called deep tissue massage. It "hurts so good," and it really got the very sore places worked out of my back. I had a membership for over a year, and because of the recession, I had to give it up. This is very sad. I eagerly await the day when I will be able to afford this great service again. First one: I paid for a full body massage and they omitted doing my feet and head (practically the most important parts where all the energy gets released)!!! Second one: I was very clear about wanting a light massage and the lady just kept going fast and hard even though I asked her to slow down and do it lighter. My wife and I have actually had very good experiences here. Seeing the reviews, I was a bit concerned. We have been to other massage envy locations and had really good luck, but the reviews indicated this location has a problem. Perhaps they've made some changes, because things were great for both of us. The phone/reception staff was very polite and helpful and the massage therapist (we've both seen the same one) rocks!. The only problem I had was getting through to make the first reservation - however this was a couple of days before Mother's Day and I'm sure they were slammed. My message therapist: Arielle. She was excellent! She has an artistic way of massage therapy with the right amount of pressure. Arielle had a continuous flow technic which really reduced my sciatic nerve pain. She focused on pressure points with heat from her finger tips. A very caring massage therapist with good recommendations. She had a super nice personality as well. I had a really relaxing and incredible experience here. Face it, placing a relaxation establishment on a busy main street is equivalent to building a hotel next to the railroad tracks (Lucy). It just doesn't work for me. The staff is nice enough no complaints there. The rooms remind me of my doctor's examination room and that can't be good : / Over all, I can't be too hard on them, it is Glendale after all. All I can say is WOW!!!!!! This place has really turned around over the years! I've been a member for 8 years now and been going to the same therapist ever since. I personally love this new stretch service they added recently. I usually get a massage twice a month but after getting the stretch last weekend I am going to change my ongoing appointments and do a 1 hour massage and 30 mins stretch right after. There's something about it that energizes you and at the same time be relaxed. Just because of this, the $70 monthly payment is well worth it!!!!! read more

Horrible horrible customer service!!!! I don't even know where to begin. I went here 4 time cause I had to use up a package that was purchased. I had a friend come with me one time as a gift to her I got her a maternity massage. All excited for her. She left feeling uncomfortable and anything BUT relaxed. Her masseuse talked to her in horrible detail about an abortion she had all the way down to the details of her saying she "threw the fetus of the unborn baby at the babies daddy". Who the hell in a professional setting says that LET ALONE TO A PREGNANT WOMAN??!! I was so pissed I called the office and talked to the manager (Dara) and she said she needed to "call me back cause she needed to talk to HER supervisor" to when she called me back THEY DID NOTHING, didn't reimburse me no compensation at all, just embarrassment, a total waste of money and horrific experience. NEVER NEVER NEVER COME HERE! Let me say that prior to coming to this location of Massage Envy, I have always LOVED my experiences with this franchise. Hell, I love it so much I have their membership where I pay $59 each month for a massage. (Granted, I don't get massages as often as I should, thank goodness they let you rack up your massages - I have 12 available). Now, let me give you the long version. And in advance, excuse me for ranting. I just moved into my boyfriend's place in LA (Los Feliz area). Moving is hard, and I am sore and want a massage. I figured since I have so many racked up I might as well use one of them for a facial and have a nice massage/facial day to unwind. Luckily I find they have a location that offers both those services that's in Glendale - not far from me! I call on a Wednesday to schedule the massage/facial for that Friday. The gentleman who set up my appointment was nice and helpful - good experience so far (and what I've been used to with Massage Envy). Come Friday, I have the flu! I can't cancel the appointment by now, so I drag myself out of bed and realize I'm going to be late. I call them to let them know I'm running 10 minutes late, and the girl that answers the phone can't find my appointment. (Fault One) What? So she looks into their system and apparently my massage is scheduled for the following Friday (weird - I confirmed the date when I made my appointment). OK no biggie, that actually works out better for me that I don't have to get up. I ask her to reschedule for my next day off, which is the following Wednesday. No problem! She moves my massage and facial to the next Wednesday. On Wednesday, I arrive on time for my appointment. After filling out the necessary paperwork (since I've never been to that location) they do NOT lead me to their back waiting room. Instead they leave me up front (Fault Two). While I'm waiting 5 minutes for my masseuse a customer calls them who is having problems with their membership. The girl at the front desk is less than help full, and when prompted for a manager, she retrieves the girl that gives facials to "act as manager." I sit there and watch as they laugh, make fun of, and are rude to this customer over the phone (Fault Three). Now don't get me wrong, I am just as guilty as the next over doing similar antics to annoying customers. However, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT carry on those antics in front of a client! Or anybody I do not know for that matter! Come on, how unprofessional. Ew. When my masseuse finally comes to get me, she doesn't even introduce herself to me or shake my hand (which has always, always happened in the past). She leads me to the room, and what, no chocolate on my pillow? (OK, I know I'm spoiled, but still!) It takes me 1 minute to get undressed, it takes her 5 to come back. She continues to give me the WORST MASSAGE OF MY LIFE (Fault Four - the biggest one too!). The music stops halfway through, and she doesn't even bother to fix it! I asked for a full body massage with emphasis on my shoulders and neck. She pretty much just poked at me and did not release any of my knots. Also weird: I don't know about you, in the past from my Massage Envy experiences they always started with me laying on my back, they massage head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, feet. Then you flip over and they work from the bottom back up. Also, in the past I have always had a heated blanket (not here) and hot towels to get the oil off my feet (not here). After the torture of this horrible massage was over, she tells me to dress again and go out in the lobby. Weird, I thought I was getting a facial? I didn't want to deal with this girl (don't know her name, she never gave it to me), so I got dressed and found my way back front. I say this because after I got out of the room she was nowhere to be found (Fault Five)! Usually your masseuse meets you out of your door and escorts you back up front. I go up front and ask about my facial. The receptionist says I have no appointment for a facial!!! (Fault Six) WTF - have I not already had problems with scheduling at this place? By now, I'm so annoyed and not relaxed I'm just done with this place. I pay my gratuity (I wish I didn't have to, girl sure didn't earn in) and leave. Here you think the story ends. Well, sadly it does not... The next day, I get a phone call from them confirming my appointment for a facial on Friday. Are you EFFING kidding me? I tell her to cancel the appointment. I am done with the Glendale Massage Envy forever! I will drive my ass from LA to Brea from now on!! All in all, NEVER EVER go to this place! The End. read more

I went about a year and a half ago and it was a man in his 40's and I WISH I knew his name!! After the massage was done he said, did you like it? I said yes, thank you. He said "well the entire time I was giving you a massage I imagined you were dancing in a smoky saloon" I wanted to DIE! I got the hell out of there. My fiancé and I had one hour massages here this evening. The first impression was nice, they offered us the couples room and we didnt have to wait very long for our ladies to take us back. My fiancé was extremely happy with his massage, thanks to Lacy. My massage was good, I had Jet. I feel it could have been a bit more firm and she obviously didn't read my paperwork or she would have known not to touch my face (especially after massaging my entire body including my feet!). My real issue with this place is the conversation we had with the receptionist after our massages. First of all, walking out to a lobby that is lit up like Dodger stadium after being in a dim, relaxing room for an hour is disconcerting. Second, I am relaxed and happy and you trying to lock me into a year contract is stressful and annoying. Third, if I politely decline do not ask me why and tell me it's what's best for me. I was planning on booking another massage for a month from now and now I will not be visiting your establishment again. I felt like we were at a time share presentation more than a spa. read more

I'm a third generation massage therapist and I can tell you the massage here was A-OK . If I'm just supposed to judge the practitioner then 4 or 5 stars would be given. They bring you back to the massage room where they leave you to undress and get on the table like any other place. No frills but definitely a well maintained facility. My massage therapist was very good. I also had a facial and the esthetician was great too. Had the front desk just let me pay, tip, and be gone I would definitely return. Instead I got the membership pressure and the massage prescription at the front desk. Apparently, I need 3 massages a month according to my practitioner who's job is to write that down and give it to the front desk who then pressured me to become a member, I declined graciously, she reworded my needing to join, I declined again, she pressured more and I declined again. I think that was it but for me that's asking three times too many but it is her job so to be fair it was two times too many. If you don't mind sales pressure as you leave then I don't see any reason you wouldn't go here. Godspeed. read more

The vibe of the office was weird from the moment we walked in. They had us come in 15 minutes prior to our appointment to fill out paperwork that took 2 minutes. Then Alana came and sat down asking random questions which was weird. They took us in 5 minutes after what our appointment was. When we were paying it was unfortunate that both Alana and Ani couldn't count and over charged us. They really need to take lessons from RA organic spa how a real massage spa should be like. read more

Basically what you pay for is what you get. Unfortunately my husband & I got leered into joining a 1 year membership. This is a basic massage clinic with a long hallway and rooms from left to right. Our trial visit for $39/1-hour session was excellent so we decided to join. We paid a total of $108 each month for an hour massage with a tip based on their non-member rate of $75. After the trial massage, those 2 therapists were no longer working there. I've never seen a bigger turn-over rate in such a short time span . Basically we would get "beginners" & was very frustrating to find the day after we were still sore and sometimes in more pain. At least our membership is up but it's worth it to me to save up & go to the more expensive spas with all the amenities. DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO GOING HERE! read more

I received a gift card for massage envy so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice receptionist and the very thorough explanation of the therapy rooms. Unfortunately the massage was so terrible I had to stop the treatment and call it quits. There was no way I could endure 90 minutes of this nonsense. 1. Therapist had unfortunate body odor. I almost walked out but then I figured, maybe he worked really hard on prior clients and worked up a sweat so I shoved my face in the pillow and embarked on a most miserable experience. 2. His fingertips were either calloused or he had a rough fingernail edge. Either way, something was scratching my back. 3. In order to remedy the scratchy sensation of his hands, he tried using his elbows. Unfortunately, he was using his entire hairy forearm and all I could feel was hairy forearms with massage oil back and forth on my back. With every upward motion, his hand would brush against my ear or my hair which was very uncomfortable. 4. There seemed to be no technique. I asked him to work on specific are of my back/neck with a ton of knots. He applied pressure to a knot then would press up and down on the knot which was very jarring. He also took a pinch of muscle at the lower neck and wiggled it back and forth. It really seemed like someone walked in off the street and put on a Massage Envy t-shirt and just went for it. It seems from other reviews that some therapists are excellent and others are terrible. My suggestion would be to have the manager/owner have a massage by each of their therapists and determine if each provides the quality of work this place is going to have. This was absolutely ridiculous, a waste of time, and I shudder to think about it. read more

Yes, like many of you, I got trapped with the monthly contract. Now, before I tell you the reasons why I gave ME a single star, I would like to make a single exception. Christian is amazing and deserves ***** (that's 5 stars) ;) But sometimes she's busy. 1) Massages are less than an hour, yes I understand changing, but I think my last massage was 43 minutes. 2) No, I do not want to tip before the massage. 3) They refuse to give a massage to women in their first trimester of pregnancy due to the "liability." All the books and internet research I've done has suggested that massage is good for pregnancy. (Please keep in mind that I'm paying for those 3 months of membership.) 4) Parking is inconvenient. 5) The rumor is...They pay the therapists terribly. Somewhere in the $16/hr. area when they have clients. Yikes. No wonder the clients aren't happy. I intend to cancel my membership as soon as I use those pre-paid Massages. I scheduled an appointment here on for November 16th as a treat after the Pasadena Marathon. The marathon was cancelled because of air quality but I still had my appointment. I met with my therapist. There's something about having big man hands on my back that totally relaxes me. I walked into the back where all the therapy rooms were located. It seemed like there were several rooms. Cattle call? Anyways, my therapist seemed more nervous then me. I decided I would just ask him him to spend 50 minutes on my back. It's where I collect my stress. So go Mr. Therapist...do your magic! Not only did he know how to pick out my knots, he educated me on how knots were formed and even demonstrated a Hawaiian therapy method. He asked about the pressure and realized that certain knots hurt more than others, so he just said "take deep breaths." I found out through my 50 minutes that it was his second day at Massage Envy and he said there were about 20 rooms in the place. REALLY??? Cattle call! With everything said and done, I was being talked into a membership. A membership is a 12 month program, you receive 1 masssage a month at $59. If you don't get it one month, you can roll it over to the next month. It seems like a great deal, but the reality is we all know the economy. I didn't want to commit myself to the program and feel like I'm stuck. Plus, based on the past reviews, I didn't want to sign up hoping that the therapist I got would be gone. She was cool enough to give me 30 days to decide and honor the offer. I'll call in a week or two to schedule an appointment and see if my therapist is there. read more

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...... THE 1st MASSAGE: I've now seen three different massage therapists. The first one was the absolute worst experience of my life. Not just worst massage, worst experience of MY LIFE!! I actually wanted to die. The fear of giving birth that I've always had left my body. If I could endure that living hell, I can pop a baby out of my who-hah, no problem. The guy gave a decent massage (nothing great), but then (after fair warning about the cooling gel that I agreed he use on me), he slathered my entire BODY with the extreme cooling agent. Yes, my ENTIRE body. I was convulsing, shaking, shivering uncontrollably, tearing, and even praying (I am an agnostic). He tried to get it off of me, but alas, that cold shit was in my skin...in my BONES! Well, I basically went into shock, so I just left and I literally RAN all the way home. I decided not to make a stink because I probably traumatized the masseur as badly as I was traumatized. I have a membership with many unused massages, so I made another appointment...months later. I was so traumatized by the event, I talked about it for like an hour on my radio program the next day. The 2nd MASSAGE: Suzanne saw me next. She was firm, deep and delightful. She rocked my arms and feet like a true pro. I'd definitely recommend her services. The 3rd MASSAGE: The best yet! Cheyenne does not do "deep tissue," which is what I always get, but she does a kick-ass firm massage that was remarkably therapeutic and soothing. OVERALL: I do not remember the man's name who gave me the first massage, but I know that was a once in a life-time experience. I can tell you that he will never make that mistake again, ever. I like the girls at the front desk and everyone on the phone is always helpful. This spot has its kinks and is nowhere near as amazing as the NB location, but it's worth the price! Okay, let me begin by saying I've been a very happy Massage Envy customer at many locations. However, somehow my debit card information was added to someone else's profile. I had to call and tell them to reverse the charge on my card but they never did. Then, a few months later, the same damn thing happened again - and they promised they'd fix it and get back to me - which they STILL did not do. Keep in mind, I was living in a different STATE when this happened at Massage Envy Glendale. I called my bank, and because it was a debit card and not a credit card, the only way I could get my money back was to file a police report. Long story short - I had to cancel my account at the bank in order to get them to stop charging me for someone else's massages. Keep in mind, I still have massages, and use them regularly out of my original location - and have no problem with the membership, per se... but I only want to pay for MY stuff and no one else's. read more
