I've come here occasionally for the last 4 years and I've always felt great when I leave. But you get what you pay for. The staff like to loudly whisper to each other - sometimes they outright talk and it's very distracting. The chairs are very comfortable and if you get a good masseuse, they'll cover your eyes when they massage your feet. Recently I came and had a male masseuse. The gender of the masseuse typically doesn't bother me because they stay professional. This masseuse in particular was very passionate about relieving my sore muscles. He kept using his elbow on my shoulders, but it was sooooo painful. When I asked him to lighten the pressure, he told me, in Chinese, that the knots won't go away if he doesn't massage harder. Basically, he kept going at my shoulders for what felt like forever until tears were coming out of my eyes. I've never had this happen before where I ask them to lighten and they don't. The next thing I know, the manager lady took over. She said he had to go attend to another customer in the back, but I overheard the whispers again. Another masseuse said, "He just kept pushing down hard on her. I could see she was not comfortable, so boss lady took over." When I went to pay, the manager lady said he used a lot of energy. The ladies working here who gave us foot massages are very nice. they sat us down on the recliners, and got to work right away. I felt a little bit uncomfortable because I thought she was a bit too much in a rush, and was at times hurting me instead of massaging me. My foot massage could have been better. I don't think she spent more than ten minutes on each foot. It was ticklish when she pinched my toes which was fine, but when she got to my arch with her knuckles it hurts. It felt more like a knuckle burn then a foot massage. The body massage was fine. I liked the scalp massage which almost made me fall asleep. The shoulders and the my neck was good too. But my arms were also a bit uncomfortable because I thought I felt some Indian burns. LOL. Anyhow, the place is just okay. My friend told me it was really good... but I disagreed. The massuese was probably still a newbie. The place was dark and the recliners are comfortable. I just don't like it when the people inside whether they're employees or customers talk very loud with no regards of keeping a quiet ambiance to relax. My 2 girlfriends and I came on a Wednesday afternoon for the first time based on Yelp reviews. The ambience is nice I must admit. Dark, pink lighting with rose petal decals everywhere inside the private rooms. We selected the 15$ package which includes a neck, back, and head. The ladies are nice and willing to adjust their strength but my friend's masseuse picked up her phone 3 times during the massage. Somehow when we went to pay, our price became $25 instead of the $15 that I had chosen for everyone. (My friends all saw me point to it on their menu and say it in chinese) They stated that they massaged our leg so we somehow got upgraded unknowingly. We didn't try to argue because the ladies were nice but we were NOT TOO HAPPY about that. Then the tip portion. When we tried to tip them $5 for each person, they stated that foot massages are at least $5 tips and back is at least $10. The massage itself was actually pretty good(albeit a little painful at times), but the main reason for my lackluster review is the environment and the service. Stopped by here last night with two friends to relax a little and got exactly what we asked for.. maybe even better than expected. My feet were sore from standing/walking all day and my lady took care of me, same for my friends and their backs. We got the #1 where they do your head, neck, and back for about 20 minutes and your feet for 40 minutes for only $20. CASH ONLY! This was actually my first time getting a massage in San Gabriel; apparently there's a massage place every two blocks on Valley. We just pulled into the first one we saw. (street parking) My friend has a theory that if there are red lanterns hanging outside, it's a massage place.. She was right. haha. We walked in at about 10pm and there was still a good amount of people; at least half full. There are like a dozen comfy massage chairs (that also folds out to the massage tables) to the right as you enter and they have you sit on one of them. DON'T WEAR SKINNY JEANS! You have to be able to roll up your pants to your knees so they can work on your calves and feet. As you can tell, I had worn skinny jeans that day. The lady just had me go to a room and replace my jeans with a big towel. Hella embarrassing but whatever, not a lot of people anyway. They were all enjoying their massages with eyes closed to even notice plus our legs are covered with a big red towel while they work on your upper body anyway. We started by having a seat and dunking our feet in a shallow tub of hot water, soon after they began with head massages. I was falling asleep. It felt soooo nice. They get in there and used power but I want to say it was gentle because it felt nice, it didn't hurt. After that, she moved to the sides of my neck, towards the back. She noticed I had a knot on my left side so she helped get that cleared. They do a little of the shoulder and back area, too. I requested more feet so I took out the back massage part (they have you lay face down after they lay the chair back) and I have no regrets. Maybe I'll one day come back to get the back massage part, it looked pretty enjoyable but I needed more attention on my feet so I made a sacrifice. when my head area was done, she went on to do my arms, it kind of hurt but not too bad. After arm massages were done, the lady had me take my feet out of the water and put them out straight. For the next 40 or so minutes, I was soooo relaxed. At the end they offer you hot tea. It sucked. A terrible way to finish our massage. To be fair maybe there is some cultural thing I don't get. The massages are great prices and it's why we can do it. But sadly this is the fourth place that this sort of thing has happened and so we just are thinking we won't go there anymore. I suspect they must not pay them and it's tips only but that is just a bad business choice. Better to add some pay into the prices to manage all our expectations. Im not considered a cheap person but I leave feeling terrible and disliking the whole trip. I think we will just stick to the restaurants in the area and no more massage places. Post hike = much needed body massage. My friends and I made an appointment a couple hours prior to coming in and they were able to accommodate the 4 of us. We did, however, have to wait about 20 minutes before they could take us in, but we didn't mind. I was surprised to see how big this place was since the ones I normally go to are a lot smaller. It was dimly lit and had a really beautiful (fake) tree with a (fake) parrot on top giving the place a tropical vibe. The couches in the seating area were the big, comfy LARGE leather arm chairs that could probably fit 2 people in one if you tried. Needless to say, I felt relaxed just sitting there. When they were ready, my girlfriend and I got escorted in to one of the rooms. They had us take off our tops (which is generally what I do anyways) so it didn't come as a shock. However, they also suggested we take our yoga pants off too. Now I don't mind stripping down, but for those of you who are uncomfortable with that idea I suggest wearing short shorts when you do come in. But as a note: it DOES make a difference whether you are stripped down or not. Not only are masseuses able to better knead and whatever-it-is-they-do to your body, but it just makes it easier especially when you say you have lower back problems and they need to be able to reach certain areas. Moving on...we both went with the 1 hour body massage ($30) and oh my god. It was so relaxing. Maybe it's because I'm the year of the dog (Chinese zodiac) but I absolutely LOVE when people touch my hair/head. So naturally, my favorite part of the entire session was when she focused on my nape, temples, and scalp. I wish she had also spent a little more time on my arms/hand and put a little bit more pressure/strength in the massages, but that's just my personal preference. They offered us water/tea at the end and the croak in my voice only confirmed the state of relaxation my body was in. Overall, it was such a great experience and I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area. I've been going to this a couple of times per year, for years. My last visit was in August 2022 and I will never step foot in this business again. I always tipped generously, and this last time was no different. I gave a 33% tip, and the lady in the front had the audacity to demand more money. HOWEVER, there are a handful of things that MQ could do to improve the experience that they offer, and instead make this a GREAT deal: 1. The massage ladies like to chat to each other in Chinese while giving the massages. Next time, I'll plan on bringing some headphones. 2. My masseuse did a great job of both massaging me; and managing her text messages at the same time.. Her phone was blowing up! Put that thing on vibrate, silent, or I dunno, turn it off?? Again, I'd bring headphones (ear buds) and listen to music if I were you! 3. The foot massage is great. You get to lay back and enjoy it. You might even be able to fall asleep, IF the lights above that you're staring up at weren't so bright! They need to dim the lights, or you need to bring an eye mask. I didn't have a very good experience at Massage Queen. I wouldn't recommend this place for your massage needs. The woman I got was actually really rough. She had strong hands, which is usually a good thing, except that she didn't really massage the right spots so it didn't feel very good. I woke up with more tension on my neck and back than I ever had. I ended up having to turn my necks several times to crack it because I was getting tension headaches. Massages are supposed to be relaxing but it's hard to relax when the entire staff talk to each other and laugh almost the entire time. They kept their voice a little lower but they were talking to each other across the room so it was definitely not that quiet. My friend had another girl who just had no strength in her hands. I always go there because they are knowledgeable and really work hard to get out all the kinks in my shoulders and neck. I figured since they had such good reviews on Yelp it wouldn't deviate too much from what I was used to at Thousand Mile Foot massage. I WAS WRONG! When we arrived Natalie K and I were told to wait since they were full. After about 10 minutes we got seated in the leather reclining chairs. We got two women to work on us and the person they assigned to me was super gentle. I usually like my massages rough so I told her she could press a little harder although she was still gentle to a point where it felt like she was tickling my feet. Also, she barely worked on my neck and shoulders and those are the areas where I get a lot of kinks but she insisted on scraping my scalp and giving me head massages which I really didn't care for. Another thing that bothered me was that they use gloves during the foot massages, although I understand that its for sanitary reasons, the establishment that I go to do not use gloves and the difference is dramatic. The texture of the gloves against your feet just isn't the same as with someone using their hands. The only thing I somewhat enjoyed was the back massage, although the constant chit chats and laughter of the workers were pretty disturbing when I was trying to relax. After speaking to Natalie K, I found out that her person was super rough on her and had actually injured her neck. When something like this happens you know that the people are unprofessional. They don't know where your pressure points are and are instead pressing down on random areas with force. OH MY GOD. I HAVE FINALLY FOUND "THE MASSAGE PLACE" !!!! :DD After shopping around for a good massage place with reasonable pricing, I have finally found it!!! :))) This is THE ONLY place that takes away my knots. I have to say, the massage therapists here know what they are doing!!! Plus its only $25 n hr or $45 for 2 hours!!! How awesome is that! :)) The only downside is that the minimum tip for body massage is $10 :/ , however it is worth it!!!! The massage therapists are so good at what they do they really deserve $10 + tip lol. :) This will be the only place I will be going to from no on, because not only are they good at what they do, it is cheap, they are really nice ( very good service) and a nice ambiance :).
