We took a trip to the mall and we were hungry. We were about to get something from the Japanese eatery right next door, but the menu for Master Gan Noodle & Dumplings looked more inviting. Here's what we ordered: **Dry Spicy Noodle: This dish is your typical Dan Dan Noodle dish. I chose to go spicy. The amount of spice was very moderate and I wished the spicy option was hotter. The amount of bok choy and green onions in my dish was very sad. 90% of my dish were noodles. Although the topping ratio was very poor, the taste was pretty good. (4/5) **House Special Fried Beef Noodle: For the price, the portions were massive. There were plenty of noodles, vegetables, and meat. The overall flavor was quite delicious and was marinated throughout the whole dish. (4/5) **Deep Fried Dumplings: Very crispy and the filling is pretty good. (4/5) **Iced Tea (Unsweetened): Solid unsweetened tea. No complaints here. (5/5) Considering it's mall food, this place is great! The portions for the noodle non-combo was very good. As expected, the combo noodle dish was less but overall, still a great affordable price! Although the food was good, the service was very poor. There was a younger man working the front and I had asked him a simple question regarding the house special noodle dish. It showed the combo noodle dish having no meat but the non-combo dish having meat. I had asked how much it would be to add some meat for the combo dish and he just stared at me saying it would be extra. After an awkward few seconds, I had asked how much it was going to be? He then replied, "Well, there's a few types of meat?" Again, I asked, "How much would it be?!" He then replied, " $5 for option A, $6 for option B, and $7 for option C." I then said "Okay, thank you." He then just stared back and gave no response. This place was also the only place that did not call out your number but instead you got a text message instead. When I received a text for my order, I went up and said thank you but he just stared back with a blank face. When we were finished with our order, I took the trays back to them because it says to return them and after placing it on the counter, he said nothing. Once again, great tasting food considering it being mall food. It's very affordable and portions are quite good. However, you should train your front-of-house-staff to be more interactive and at least fake a smile for your customers. I came here with my entire family, as Montebello Mall also has a food court to go with this noodle place. The food court is very spacious. The staff had some trouble with English, so I spoke to the cooks in very basic Mandarin and that was ok. I ordered through the kiosk for most of it any way. I got the seafood noodle soup and also a side of shrimp and pork dumplings. I wish there was more seafood beyond frozen shrimp and imitation crab. The broth was quite nice though. We were greeted with a smile and the staff were extremely friendly. We ordered the C2 combo. Beef noodle soup, 4 pieces of fried dumplings, and a drink. You can select how spicy you would like the noodles to be. We think the price is a little steep for the quality of noodles. We believe their prices are what it is because of the location. The beef is very tender and is very soft. If the noodles were a little higher quality and less oil in the broth, then the price would be justified. The dumplings are crispy and the soup spoon could be better. It was hard to drink the soup without maneuvering within the bowl. We would rate the overall combo a 7 out of 10.
