Master Movers moved my household 8 yrs ago. They did such a great job that I hired them again, for my move 2weeks ago. Aidan, Stetson, and Alec were prompt, friendly and professional. They used every nook and cranny of the space in the truck to fit all of my belongings from my house and outbuildings. When unloading, I appreciated the extra care to put items in the correct rooms. They even arranged my living room furniture and helped to put my bed together, so I wouldn't have to worry about it later. I highly recommend them! read more

Didn't load my furniture only moved boxes. 2 guys took 6 hours to move one bedroom, 2 hours longer than quoted. Promised to help me take apart my bed. Refused to help take apart my bed. Showed up with 14 foot truck, a smaller truck, than I had agreed to when I was quoted for this job and agreed to pay them. I had been promised at 20 foot or so truck. The photos are what is left that they didn't move after l paid them $887. They took only the smallest book case, my small desk and my 1 small desk chair- the chair I had to beg them to put on the truck with the desk. I had to hire guys off craigslist to finish the move, for an extra $80. I asked Master Movers to refund me the $80 extra I had to pay to finish their move, that they contracted to do. They agreed and said that was reasonable, and told me I have to take down this review 1st. I took the review down. They call be back and refuse the $80 refund we agreed to. DO NOT USE this company. Movers stole over $3000 worth of goods. The movers opened and resealed this box after my husband witnessed them in the back of our moving truck en route to the destination. I know it was opened and resealed as I only sealed boxes in one direction. This is on top of being 2 hours late for pick up and an additional 3 hours late for drop off. We were also charged a $300 overnight fee for a one day job. Company was friendly and responsive at first but has failed to respond to our complaints after submitting all of the necessary paperwork for reimbursement for our stolen goods. read more

I was quoted one price for a move, without being told about the prices being based by 'cubic foot'. Once on-site, the price quadrupled. They deliberately loaded things they were not supposed to touch, stealing medical paperwork, electronic items and my service dog's documents and 'Service Animal Vest' thus limiting where he can go with me. I was threatened, with my items not being returned, or sold. They lied about the delivery and cost, so there is no 'quality'. There is no value in a company that lies. read more

I called last minute for moving help in 3 days on a Saturday. Two wonderful men - Johnny and Pete - show up right on time and quickly got to work. They packed my boxes and then unloaded my 32 foot RV into a 36 foot Fifth Wheel in record time. All I had to do is sit and point. Easiest move I ever had. They were careful with my belongings and double checked to be sure they got everything, including the outside storage bins I had forgotten about. I highly recommend this company and their staff. Let them pack your boxes - it is well worth the cost! First time I ever moved and didn't hurt that night or have any concerns as to the safety of my goods. read more

These guys hustle. Sonny, Gerald and Corey moved my wood shop machinery, multiple crates of assorted tools and supplies. Most of which weighed several hundred pounds. Along with a few household items. They arrived right on time, actually a few minutes early and the moment they got out of the truck it was nonstop loading! After an hour plus drive to the new location they again hustled nonstop to get everything unloaded and into the places I wanted. I recently hired Master Movers to relocate us from Grant Park to our new home in Southwest Hills. I thought I was hiring professionals but that did not turn out to be the case... Things started off good with a prompt response to my inquiry and great communication from their office.... We ended up hiring a two man crew to pack our kitchen the day prior to the move and a three man crew and two trucks on moving day as they recommended. The day prior packing went well and we had no complaints about that service though several glass and ceramic items that were packed by the crew ended up broken when unpacking. Prior to move day and on move day we specifically discussed the need to protect our furniture and were told "of course that is standard".... but when we arrived at the destination and the crew started unloading, we realized that the crew hadn't protected anything with wrapping, moving blankets, etc. They literally just shoved everything into the trucks with minimal care and no protection. The result was multiple items being scratched and or damaged (including a very expensive leather couch) and even more items becoming stained or filthy (including our king size mattress). The disassembly and reassembly capabilities of this crew was absolutely pathetic and in hindsight I should have done it all myself.... 1-2 of the crew members spent at least 6-8 hours of the day on my dime disassembling and attempting to reassemble a king size bed frame and a futon frame. They failed miserably at both and somehow lost components in the process. At one point I went to check on the crew member that had been working on reassembling my futon for at least two hours and he hadn't even put a single piece together. I asked him what the hell he was doing and noticed right away that there were major components missing. When I brought it to his attention, he then went to look for them and determined they had been lost. I then went upstairs to report that issue to the crew lead and found him and the other crew member severely struggling with completing the assembly of my bed frame which they had been working on for at least three hours on OT pay. After relaying that information to the crew lead, one of the two broke a wall mounted light fixture off the wall of my bedroom and the other dropped and chipped the headboard of my bed. At that time I kicked the crew out of my house. My futon is now broken and I had to install the head board on the bed frame myself... I have not received any communication from their office to apologize or attempt to make things right... only a generic email with a claim form to fill out for the damaged items. We made a cross country move from PDX to South Carolina, so glad we used Master Movers. Our Master Movers moving consultant, Brent Barnes, was very helpful to us as we packed up our lives! The estimate was painless, Brent gave us lots of tips to make the process easier and faster. All the details were knocked out without drama, and that's just what we were hoping for! The moving crews on both the beginning and end of our move, were totally pro. The team leader is the driver of the moving truck, and our driver was totally cool. He supervised both moving crews, he was there from start to end of our move. My relationship with Master Movers is extensive, nuanced & complex. I hope that you will see my effort to be honest, clear, fair & genuine. CONTEXT While going through a horrible divorce, I needed to move my belongings from my home before my then-husband (who was Deputy Attorney General) stopped me. In that moment, Master Movers saved the day. At the time, life was chaotic (2009 financial crisis, prolonged divorce, stolen bank accounts, rising rents in Portland, etc...) I moved multiple times in 3 years. Again...Master Movers really stepped up and did an amazing job. They were: 1. On time 2. Reliable 3. Fast 4. Helpful 5. Cautious 6. Discreet 7. Responsive For many reasons, my living situation changed (on average every 12 - 14 months). Given my early positive experiences, I never hesitated to contact Master Movers. Sarah, the Office Manager (and all around groove dog) was ALWAYS there for me. She was one of the few people I could rely on.... I began to have serious concerns when I used them for a move in 2015. I had everything packed (unlike some previous moves), the distance was about 2.4 miles, the move was 1st floor to 1st floor, I promised the movers generous cash tips if they stayed on task, I had all entrances open at new location for movers, etc. Basically, I did everything possible to make the move fast, easy & simple. Tragically, the movers, for whatever reason, couldn't complete a move (of a 1 bedroom apartment) in under 6 hours. It was discouraging, but I wrote it off as an anomaly. Fast forward 3 years when I decided to flee Portland. I made a rash decision by selecting a Self-Storage facility to store my belongings (and in retrospect it wasn't safe, secured, monitored by cameras, well-staffed, etc....) so I paid Master Movers for that initial move to this storage unit. Tragically, after reporting repeated security violations to the Self-Storage facility (and being denied insurance), I knew that I had made a rash decision & needed to once again move my belongings to a safer storage facility. I called Master Movers & they informed me that THEY had secure, safe, climate controlled storage! WOW! I was thrilled.... Made the appointment, met the movers, assisted with labeling of boxes, bought them lunch, etc... and assumed it would take AT MOST 3 hours to move my belongings (WHICH WERE ALREADY BOXED, LABELED & ORGANIZED) down to the truck and move it 3/4 of a mile! IT TOOK THE MOVERS OVER 8 HOURS! NOT ONLY THAT THEY BROKE MY BELOVED RETRO COFFEE TABLE. And, when the movers FINALLY got my belongings to the so-called SAFE, SECURE, WEATHER-SAFE location, I saw that there was nothing! Not only that, they arbitrarily charged me for boxes that I didn't need ($185.00 or more). The owner of Master Movers was at the location (which was promised to provide me safe, easy access to my belongings) drops another bomb shell that my belongings needed more space than planned. GREAT! How much more money do you want? Then, he denies that his mover had broken one of my beloved pieces of furniture. Then i learn that I cannot access my belongings when I may want or need. OH! It gets better! I find out, of course, after my belongings are there, that it is going to cost me $200.00/month for storage that isn't weather resistant & that I will have to schedule a time to access my belongings up to one month in advance! At this point, I am SO angry! I have helped this business owner make AT LEAST $10,000.00 in the last 8 years! He knew who I was. He knew what a loyal customer I had been. He knew that I frequently called the mover's parole officer's (that Chris, the owner, hired) to help them out. He knew how generous I was with tips, food, lunch, recommendations, etc. and YET. And, YET he refuses to even compensate me for the moving boxes. So, thanks for reading...if you've gotten this far. All I can say is that I feel betrayed, taken advantage of, used, exploited & disrespected. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Hold movers & company accountable. 2. Master Movers did an awesome job with our in-town Portland move. Everything from setting up the move (on relatively short notice) to actually getting our stuff out of our old house and into our new apartment was handled with speed and humor. Our movers, Sergio and Antonio, were great! They were on time, super-friendly, and had a great attitude. They even dealt really well with a sticky situation concerning our new next door neighbor (who is really unpleasant). They handled her attempts to block our move with an impressive level of professionalism and humor. They managed to get everything out of our old 2-story house (with basement) and into our new 2nd-floor apartment with a surprising amount of speed. I appreciate everything they did for us. In addition to the movers, the office staff at Master Movers were also great to deal with. Warm, pleasant, funny, and efficient. The worst experience I have ever had! Junk Equipment!! Driver will drive way out of the area for more time! Old Rope to tie down your expensive household items. I had to help the movers pick-up my Piano that was found flat on its back in the back of the truck because it was not properly tied town. (rope) Should have been with ratchet tie towns. Now I have to take this place to small claims court to get my piano Repaired, Because they say it is covered for how much it weights not for the damage. Cheap Bastards!!! Master Movers are the Masters. My parents used them a couple years ago to move in the dead of winter and they moved them even though there was snow. They also just moved Grandma this last week and did an excellent job for her. My wife and I were originally going to move our selves from our 2 BR apartment to our new house. But with a time crunch and objects being to heavy for both of us, we decided hiring movers would be a better route. I can't even explain how happy we are we made that decision. Sonny and Julio had us moved in 4 hours. They were animals, on how fast, and smart they worked. They didn't damage anything and took super special care of all our belongings. To top it off they were very polite, and funny. They were able to communicate with us where everything went and what needed to be done by us to keep them working. We are totally thrilled how little we had to do. If you are in need for movers, I would highly recommend them. The price was less than expected and it was worth every dollar. I was expecting professional movers who would be careful with my belongings, but that did not happen; it was a terrible experience. The movers were not very careful with my boxes and shoved them around. One of the movers put my dirty doormat in my Christmas box on top of my Christmas decorations and ribbons and also put my ankle weights in the box. I was very upset about this. A mover was not careful with my garment bag. He left the coats hanging in the bag and let them fall to the bottom of the garment bag and in moving the garment bag either into the truck or out of the truck broke the metal piece, snapped it in half that holds my coats. I have a big table with four chairs. It is not brand new, but I take care of it. One of my chairs was cut in the back causing stuffing to come out in clumps. My small table lamp was just fine before one of the movers took it apart. A piece is missing or the lamp is just broken. I can't put it together. My clothes were taken off the closet rack where I hung my clothes and rolled up in a large packing pad. I don't know if that was proper, but I didn't like it. I thought they would have some garment boxes for me to place my clothes in. These are main reasons why I did not like the movers who helped me move; it was a terrible experience. I would not give them a five-star rating, maybe a one-star rating and that with hesitation. read more

The two men sent to our job site were truly expert movers. They packed my penske truck extremely well. Nothing broke after over 1000 mile journey. The guys who unloaded on the other end were no where near their caliber. Minus one star for showing outside of the 2 hour window given (2.5 hours after, actually). We also ran into an issue with overtime due to going past 7pm. But I was very impressed with how the company handled my questions about this surcharge and we were able to reach an understanding and resolution (pretty minor amount of money). read more

As I was calling various moving companies in the greater Portland area, Chris at Master Movers answered the phone. None of this "leave a message and we'll get back to you" nonsense. I explained that we needed to move an older relative from a one bedroom apartment to another one about 15 miles away. They don't send an estimator out for one bedroom apartment moves, but I conveyed to Chris that even though this was a one bedroom, there was enough stuff crammed into the place that it should be classified as two bedroom plus a lot of dishes, glasses etc...from the kitchen. He modified the estimate and it was in the general ballpark of what I was expecting. A week prior to the move, Sarah sent me quite a bit of paperwork via email to me. It covered the legalese of Moving and various laws. It also included what they would not pack or put onto the truck. Chris told me about the one hour (total each day) of billed travel time, and then the minimum labor hours that would be billed. This was also stated in the paperwork Sarah emailed. I knew we would easily exceed the minimum labor hours each day, so that wasn't a major issue. All the costs were spelled out in detail in the various documents Sarah sent to me. The packers - Steve and Shaun - arrived within the window that Chris and Sarah told me. They worked their ****'s off packing up the place. They ran three hours over on labor, but that was due to the excessive amount of dishes, and glass/ceramic tchotkes (even I was horrified at the number of breakable items that kept showing up in places other than the kitchen). They packed all the stuff and were very good natured about it. It was a pleasure to work with these two gentlemen. They were very careful with all the packing, and wrapped the furniture in plastic wrap. Steve and Shaun returned the next day (as scheduled) on time and once again worked their ****'s off loading the truck and then off loading at the new apartment. They set up the bed frame and box spring/mattress, reassembled all the furniture they took apart (entertainment center, some bookcases), placed the furniture where my relative wanted it, even after she changed her mind a few times. They did all this work very professionally and with a great sense of humor. Yes, the final bill was higher than the original "enhanced" estimated costs, but even I didn't expect to find that much breakable stuff in unexpected areas. All in all, a great experience and working with Steve and Shaun over the two days made a stressful activity less nerve-wracking. read more

I love Master Movers! They have moved me on three separate occasions and every time I've been more than pleased. The movers are efficient, friendly, and respectful. I've never had any issues with them dinging, scratching, or damaging any of my furniture or belongings. Their office/booking staff have always been communicative and polite. STAY AWAY from these movers. Do your research on companies like this one and note the several very negative reviews on this site. I wish I had. Instead, as a 65+ single woman I feel taken advantage of and have been told by Chris, the operations manager who is very good at twisting words, that in fact I must be the reason for the difficulties with my move, not them. Some details: -Move was local, North Portland to Clark County, only furniture/heavy items. I had everything ready and provided drinks, snacks for movers. -2 movers who came were pleasant but came without any tools, seemed inexperienced (I've moved several times, mostly cross country) and were slow. Using my few manual tools instead of the usual power tools slowed progress even more. -The movers disassembled 1 platform bed and reassembled it incorrectly but couldn't figure out what was wrong. When I showed them what was wrong and that it had to be disassembled again and redone they seemed angry, but throughout the move did not want my input and did not ask questions ahead of time. -A second platform bed could only be partially disassembled and then not fully reassembled due to lack of a necessary tool but they took a long time trying then said it would be stable as is(??) and left me with the extra pieces. -The movers were not honest to Chris about the extra time I ended up paying for due to rework and lack of tools but instead blamed me for I'm not sure what. Guess who Chris listened to. -When I first described the contents to be moved to one of the owners, I specifically mentioned a very floppy latex mattress (no brand name) that was difficult to work with and needed support, as I knew from a previous move. At that point, questions and perhaps a reference to a moving company better able to deal with this issue would have been great but there was no follow up. The movers were totally unprepared to work with the mattress, despite my trying to preempt the issue in advance. The mattress was quite damaged. read more

We have a new neighbor who used MM. Unfortunately we met them to complain that their movers broke a limb out of our cherry tree and never even acknowledged it. I would think it is standard protocol to acknowledge something like this and apologize for the accidental break. Earlier this year I used Master Movers to move from our rental to a new house we bought. First off, they arrived with 1 man short, which delayed the whole process and got us well into overtime and price went way up. But main concern is the broke so many items - Dropped the wardrobe from the outside stairs. Cant use it anymore - The slammed the media console and the glass slider doors were shattered. Written off. - They dropped one of our designer chairs from the truck and the legs broken off. - The bend our kitchen trash bin completely - The made various scratches on the wooden floor. - The snapped an umbrella in pieces - But the cherry on top was backing the truck into our yard with so much force, they properly dug out our yard including lave rocks and we have to get a landscaper out to repair it. Btw the moving truck had a broken taillight etc also. But they just took off without even looking. The guys claimed to be very tired and overworked. I am sympathetic to that. But the damages that I calculated being $2-3000, despite many phone calls and emails, we were only $150. I will never use them again read more

Master Movers did a fantastic job. They were helpful over the phone with scheduling and even made reminder calls. They were helpful when I needed to reschedule and right on point with the price quote. They arrived promptly, ready to work. They were extremely friendly and handled our things with care. Nothing was damaged and they were happy to move our large tool box (1400lbs) with no problem. We were able to have the same guys deliver our stuff in Bend (from Portland) the very next day. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We used this company a few months ago and as we were unpacking we noticed our large box of Blu Ray DVDs missing. We let the company know and filed a claim which took over a month to process. We estimated that at LEAST 50 DVDs were in that box, probably more. Blu Ray DVDs are about 20$-25$ each, estimating our lost value at about $1100. We received a check in the mail today for $12. This is absurd and extremely poor customer service. The attached letter with the check states that because we did not buy additional insurance, our missing property has a decreased value!!! Let it be known we did not buy additional insurance because we had nothing that we were afraid of being broken or damaged.......IT NEVER OCCURRED TO US OUR PROPERTY WOULD BE STOLEN!!!! Again....Do not use this company!! We have used 2 Brothers Moving in the past and will continue to do so. read more

Please do not use this small business to help you move! They told me my move would take four hours. I budgeted 6 just to be safe. It took more than 9 hours and I had to pay time and a half as well! My move was in town and the two locations were a mile apart. In one mile's drive both legs of my piano were split. In one mile! When called to address this issue I was given every excuse in the book. The bottom line is they have policies that penalize the customer. The poor crew. They were told it would take four hours too. They told me that it happens to them ALL THE TIME! This business is not treating its employees with respect and as a small business owner, I am disgusted. I have never written a negative review before in my life. Never. So you know it must be pretty bad if I am willing to do so now. I am a small business owner and I am shocked that they would use these bait and switch tactics. It is so much more important to treat your employees with respect and keep your customers happy than make and extra few hundred dollars. Please do not support this business. I completely agree with the previous comment about these movers. I did a short move and put my items in storage with Master Movers. Literally 70% of my furniture was broken and anything of value was stolen. I had insurance but the movers were so scary that we were too scared to file a claim. The people in the office were rude and messed up on billing every single month my stuff was in storage. Seriously... I am in my 40's and I have never in my life dealt with any company that even came close to this. Yikes!!! Seriously, go elsewhere! read more

When I spoke to Chris, he did nothing and took the employees comments as the end all after two weeks of waiting on an answer. I see this company has almost all great reviews. Good for them. Here's my parents recent experience. The company sent 2 men to move them out of their 2 bedroom condo into a 3 bedroom apartment. Some of their furniture was already in storage, so there was less to move on moving day. It took them 12 hours to move them about one mile. Master Movers should have sent 3 men. My parents are elderly with health concerns and this stress is not good for them. The biggest joke is the company website trumpets that moving should be stress free. Baloney. The primary guy, Erik was tremendous in every single aspect. From walking us thru the process, to wrapping items, moving them carefully but swiftly - they never slowed down. We moved across town from Portland to Gresham yesterday. We had two bedrooms and a living room full of stuff, which the two movers did shift our stuff from one part of town to another fairly efficiently. When we asked prior to the job for an estimate, one of the movers told me that it would cost "about $600" or so, which i thought to be reasonable. In the end, they told us that two trips would be necessary (with the second trip being just some miscellaneous furniture that I could have gotten myself). It seemed like they took their time on the second trip. The final amount was over $1,100, and the guy even had the nerve to hint around at the end that I should tip them on top of that. Sorry guys, I know that you worked hard and you probably don't make a whole lot, but I just couldn't add a tip after being stuck with such an enormous bill. So essentially we're talking an extra five hundred bucks to move three or four pieces of furniture and some miscellaneous stuff on a second trip. I should have just sent them on their way after the first trip, rented a Uhaul and done the rest myself. They did a good job and nothing was broken, but I feel ripped off and deceived. Re-edited: It's probably too early to write this review, because I am not very happy at the moment. Readers should understand that the moving charge today was $150.10 per hour from the time MM leaves their business, picks up the appliance (in my case), gets to the client, takes out old appliance, brings in the new appliance and stays long enough to be sure it fits, and then drives back to the business. In my case, 3 guys came and were there for 1 1/2 hours doing the moving, and but the final charge was 4 1/2 hours(negotiated to 4 hours) - which I DID appreciate. I live across the river in Washougal, so take that into account. Then there is the fuel excise $$$ charge... So I'll start with the cons: 1-Estimate did not take our address into consideration, so the actual charge was more. Because they did not ask for address, they did not give as accurate an estimate as they otherwise would have. 2-Actual charge was 31% more that initial estimate. 3-There is no mileage consideration - ONLY TIME, so the total time could have been much longer, if there was a wreck on the freeway, for example. 4-Without a more realistic/accurate estimate, I could not assess whether I should have looked at another company for comparison. Pros: 1- THE 3 GUYS THAT CAME WERE GREAT! They were very considerate of my wood floors, going through doors and generally handling my very expensive, very large new refrigerator. They worked conscientiously together, and considering the size of this appliance, worked quickly. And they took away the old frig AND all the cardboard packing. 2- MM management were accommodating/polite when I pointed out their "shortcomings" in this transaction. 3- I thought perhaps I wouldn't consider using MM again but, since I believe in being accountable for my part in any conversation or agreement, I have to consider what I could have done better. I want to be thorough ..but fair. ... So I will consider them in the future, based on the guys that came. My advise to the reader is be VERY proactive in getting answers you need BEFORE you make the transaction. ASK QUESTIONS! read more

I had a great moving experience on Monday August 24 with Master Movers. Alex and Donovan were very professional and did a great job moving me to another townhouse just a couple streets away. They really know what they are doing! They were very careful with my belongings, as well as efficient. They know how to handle all the tricky moving situations, including quickly moving a washer and dryer down a flight of stairs. In addition, they were both friendly and communicative. Also a kuddos to Sarah and Gordon who helped with communication before the move. This company is legitimate, the real deal, as they are associated by the American Moving & Storage Association and the Oregon Department of Transportation, and their rates are reasonable for the service they provide.
